You don't think you might need a Lactation Consultant until you really need one. So be prepared from the beginning and keep there contact ready. You won't be wrong with them! Rue is super patient and knowledgeable. I explained to her all my concerns and what I've tried and she guided me to my best options. I am still trying some od her advices but I am very pleased with our meeting. You can also meet online because of the Pandemic. I just think that your first appointment should be in person so she can take a real look to baby's latch, positions, etc. She is very busy so plan ahead. I always heard breastfeeding a child was difficult but I had no idea how until I had to do it myself. After a month of my own trials and tribulations, I was ready to throw in the towel, but am glad I didn't. I encourage everybody to make an appointment with Rue, who is an IBCLC, as soon as possible. Perfect Push Review Simply put, Rue and her team are the best. I used The Perfect Push for doula services, lactation services, and birth education, and recommend them to everyone I know. I extensively researched local doulas in the area, but Rue was one of the first I spoke to. I told her this over the phone, and she wisely encouraged me to "shop around" first, to make sure I was completely happy with my choice. What I thought would be a short 10 minute consultation, however, turned into a 45-minute in-depth conversation about Rue's practices and evidence-based and wholly holistic approach, and I felt deeply encouraged, so I arranged to meet her in-person. My husband and I shared our fears and hopes with Rue, and she met us with patience, practicality, and kindness. When she assigned our doula Maria to us, we were met with more of the same. All of our experiences at The Perfect Push were exceptional. Because of my personal history of trauma and anxiety, I often came to Rue and Maria overwhelmed and even fearful. They held me up, supported, and empowered me and my family. I was treated with empathy and personal dedication in their office, at home, and in the hospital. My daughter had not been eating enough, and the pediatrician suggested I might need to supplement with formula if I could not get her weight up with breast milk. I called Rue, and she immediately helped us create a plan so effective that it only took three days before my daughter's weight was above where it needed to be. Rue and Maria and the perfect push team are awesome! Although my birth did not go well and I struggled with supply issues with bf, Rue and Maria were there supporting me and my husband the whole time! They gave us great information and met us with immense compassion when I needed to combo formula-breastfeed, and helped me make a plan for nursing, pumping, and formula feeding that was best for my mental health and physical recovery following my very difficult birth. They also referred me to AMAZING medical providers after I was extremely let down in care before, during, and after my birth. Make sure to ask for referrals for OB, pediatric dentist, pelvic floor therapist, and more! They seem to have the best connections. Rue also has advanced knowledge that typical "lactation consultants" at the hospital do not have- in fact, she warned us what they might recommend and advised us how to respond, and it happened exactly as she said! So glad we met together beforehand so we could start off on the right foot. I also think a huge benefit of the perfect push is that Rue is a ARNP, which means the team is led by a medical professional. As a first time mom with an uncommon complication from birth, It was great to have someone I could run a second opinion by- or someone who I could ask if she thought I needed to call my doctor or if I could wait on it. Otherwise I would have been calling my doctor every day haha! Traditional doula services technically aren't allowed to give medical advice, so it's a huge benefit of TPP that Rue is qualified to give advice. It was a complete blessing to be connected with The Perfect Push doulas. I was connected with them after sharing my challenging experiences with a local research study during the earlier part of my pregnancy in regards to the eruption of COVID-19 this year. The study that I participated was being put on by a group at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. The study was focusing on how women who are going through a pregnancy or who have delivered during the COVID-19 pandemic are coping and how they feel their pregnancy care has changed or not during the pandemic. I was experiencing a great deal of challenges. My mental health was not the greatest. I did not feel a great connection with my OB. I don't know how I could have gotten through the postpartum period without TPP and Rue and Wal. I was overwhelmed with the day to day juggling of my 3 year-old, my newborn and our home.
