My dog got a good bath here but the staff made me uncomfortable. I can't deal with the attitude of the girl that I spoke with this last time. She called me while I was on my way to say my appointment was actually at 3:30. That is false. I don't even get home from work until 3:30 so I would not schedule that appointment (and the first time I went there, my appointment was also at 4). She had the nerve to tell me they don't schedule dogs after 4 PM and that they close at 6:30 that day. I asked the other purple hair girl when I checked out "did you change your hours?" and she said, "No, we close at 7 just like always." Made me feel like I was not welcome there. Been going to Pawber shop for over 2 years. Many of the groomers have changed out with exception of the owner. Last 2 grooms were not to my liking.. last one a couple months ago I did not say anything but arrived yesterday for our groom... took more time to explain what I was looking for.. showed a photo and even volunteered to text someone the photo... no it's ok was the reply. I picked up my dog and only once I got home realized how off the cut was. I asked for a more rounded head.. not too short under beard and the ears rounded not straight across. (Last cut my dog was referred to as Lloyd of Dumb and Dumber). The photo speaks for itself. I did not ask for money back.. I sent a message explaining I hadn't been very happy last cuts and asked for the best groomer to be out on my dog next time. I even said it'll grow... just just need another groomer next time. Needless to say my dog that gets groomed every 6-7 weeks (my dog is only 7 so many years ahead of us) and our Golden that gets groomed 4-5x a year - this obviously isn't important to this company. Even more so they do not want clients with requests or expectations. I no longer will reccomended this salon and do not care for their callousness in dealing and keeping long term clients happy. The owner tried to get our Google review removed so we're leaving one here too. Also, we like supporting small business and gave this place the benefit of the doubt, even after a bad haircut years ago. But not this one again. We brought our dog to the groomer twice where they injured her both times. One time they cut her and she was licking, scooting and trying to sooth her wound. The second time it was extremely raw and red and our dog scooted and licked a lot. We were asked to bring the dog in which we did. The staff was unaccommodating and were typical entitled millennials with attitudes. Staff should bend over backwards when people are worried about injuries caused to their pets for grooming. The owner did not take responsibility and blew off our concerns. What is the point of driving all the way in to show the injury only to be told that the concern is nothing. We tried even after the first injury just to see if it was a fluke. The second time we were upset and they did nothing but complain and insult us. Too bad they don't know better customer service. Go to another groomer, Petco or PetSmart where people are kind and courteous and properly care for your pet. read more

They accepted my dog for grooming being that she was a little knotty. They said that she will need conditioning to be able to get rid of the knots (extra $5). Good enough. They called me 30 minutes later saying that they don't do deknotting. "Why did you accept her in the first place?" They wanted to shave her off! No thanks! They charged me $34 for a bath. They did not even comb my pet, only air dried her. Her feet are still dirty from her pee. I wasted $34. Next time be more straight forward with client and say the do's and don't before accepting our pets. I'm new to Elgin. I'm still looking for a good groomer that will take care of my baby girl. I cant rate this shop on service because we were not actually customers. We scheduled our Akita to be groomed for 2 pm on 09.05.2020. Thats the last appointment they make for the day because they close at 5 pm. I get a call if I can come 30 mins early, almost pressured to come in earlier. That was irritating. At 1:57 my wife calls to notify that she'll be 10 minutes late as shes on her way, the place is only 10 mins from our place. Most places have a 5-15 minute grace period for appointments. Vanessa told my wife that they're going to have to cancel now becasue shes running late. If your business doesnt have a grace period, you let your customers know when they schedule an appointment, dont be late because we will cancel. I called Vanessa as to why our appointment was canceled, she told me that she canceled becasue my wife called at 2:03 according to their caller i.d stating she would be 30 minutes late. At this point, I'm thinking b.s. because i was on the phone with the shop at 2:03 and if my wife is ever going to be 30 minutes late, she cancels. I called her out on it, then she tells me that the reason she canceled is because if we werent going to be there right at 2 pm, my akita who has a short double coat, wont dry in time before they close at 5. I bathe my dog often and he takes 20 minutes to dry, i told them that when i sheduled my appointment. When i called vanessa out again on the gaps and different responses she had been giving me, she told me that my dog was just going to be too much work because of his size, or his double coat, or the fact that my wife said "im running 30 minutes late" or because they just cant brush him if he's damp. Im not really sure at this point, i got lost with all the excuses for what sounds to me is a case of someone just trying to close up shop early on the saturday of labor day weekend. If you cant accept pets at your shop at the exact time of your appointment, then they arent accepting any appointments, because any customer that shows up on time is already 8 minutes late accourding to the clock they have at their shop according to vanessa. We ended up taking our dog to petco in west dundee, which i didn't want to do because ive heard horror stories, but they were able to take him last minute since we leave for vacation early sunday morning. Not only did they take my dog last minute, they managed to squeeze a dog into their busy schedule that was "too much work." We got our boy back in a little under two hour of dropping him off. He got his medicated bath with our shampoo, then washed with their shampoo. He was also brushed, deshedded had his ears cleaned, nails trimmed and filed and teeth cleaned. It was 15 dollars cheaper than what pawber shop was charging but i ended up tipping $50 and paid the extra 44 bucks for the deshedding, because they saved the day. Despite a pleasant experience at petco, im not going back because im looking for a consistent groomer for our boy and id still rather give my business to local shops. Im still going to schedule our boy to be groomed here some day, you cant ignore all the postive recent reviews and being so close to home. On a side note, I cant fault vanessa for wanting to get out early on a saturday, just drop the bull shit. read more

I am highly disappointed in the The Pawber Shop change of policies. We have brought our Yorkie there a few times and what I loved about them is how caring and nurturing they were with each grooming. They even offered "facials" which left our best pup smelling and looking great. Recently they changed their policies, if you haven't visited in 6 months or more you are to pay a 25.00 deposit. Now this deposit DOES go toward the cost of your groom. When I asked why they said because people who don't see us often are often no shows at the last minute. I said that I didn't feel that this policy was fair because one they don't know all of their customers stories, for example my father became very ill and I was a caretaker and helped financially with his care before his passing in May, so we were cutting costs and groomed our pup ourselves. Prior to my explaining, the person I was speaking with said that my questioning was "making her feel bad" and that I was being rude. Being rude? I was asking to explain your policy and I was just trying to say why as a customer I felt that singling out customers based on when they last saw them was making me feel bad because I would have loved to bring my pup in but life changes happened. Needless to say she said I was no longer welcome to bring my dog there. I understand that no company wants to be left hanging especially in a service such as this. All I was trying to get at was if you are charging a deposit for one (and it goes toward grooming), you should charge for all. I am disappointed that I have to right this review because more than once I have recommended them to family and friends. I decided to take my 9 month old puppy to this place based on favorable reviews. The appointment was scheduled for 8 am. I was there at 7:55 and it was closed. At 8:10 an employee showed up and opened the shop without inviting me in. I went in and my puppy was excited and trying to greet her. No acknowledgement of my dog. I was asked to fill out a form which included a special instructions section. I wrote down not to crate him. They advertise that option. I was asked what I wanted and I explained I wanted a 5/8 cut. I was told that's less than half off his current coat length which I agreed to because the last time he got this cut he was still fluffy and I said I wanted to keep him that way. As this was our first visit I was offered a complimentary upgrade. I chose nail filing. In about 1.5 hours I received a call from the groomers saying my dog had mats behind his ears and on his torso. I was surprised to hear it since I brushed him thoroughly two days before. She advised she might need to shave the mats which I agreed to. It is what it is. When I came home, I didn't even recognize my dog. I am not a groomer but I would have done a better job by watching YouTube videos. The dog is basically shaved. There's zero resemblance to what this breed is supposed to look like. A professionally trained groomer should have a fairly good idea of what the cut is supposed to look like. His nails weren't filed because he was "fidgety". Yes, he's just a puppy. He was crated even though I wrote down not to do that because he gets very anxious in a crate. It is apparent that the groomer is not professionally trained neither in pet grooming nor customer service. We will not be back. read more

I always get my girls back with their tails wagging and looking and smelling great . My white long haired chihuahua Malibu comes out perfectly white and fluffy . I can tell she feels better too! Having short-haired dogs, I only go here for nail trims, ear and teeth cleaning, and baths. All but the baths are walk-ins, so no appointments needed. We usually wait there while are pups' nails are trimmed, but baths require drop off and pick up later. The prices are the best around, and the location is very convenient for us, with parking spaces usually open right out front. read more

I brought my high energy jack Russell terrior in for the first time for grooming. He's very jumpy and squirmy when it comes to getting his nails clipped so I was very hesitant on bringing him to a new groomer. Vanessa and Kimmy were very professional. They did an awesome job! I would have given them 4 stars for grooming & service until today. Originally came to them & my dog was aggressive so they couldn't groom him. We discussed & they suggested CBD oil or similar to calm him. I called my vet & he gave me an Rx for doggie chill pills. Pawber HAD NO ISSUES W GROOMING HIM when I gave him the pills. In fact, in late December I even tipped $25 VISA GIFT card. I wouldn't have done that had they not been successful grooming him. Today owner says nope. Can't scissor him or anything because he bites them. That's news to me since the last two times they said he did great. Now, either the girl who groomed him was lying to ne or owner is looking at OLD NOTES. I asked her if you're unable to fully groom him, then why did I pay for full groom TWICE! She didn't have an answer! I'm livid! Either I got over-charged or the owner is not a bright person. THEY RECOMMENDED THE CALMING MEDS IN THE FIRST PLACE! Now they say they can't groom if dig is drowsy. He wasn't drowsy. He's just relaxed. When I made the appt today, they knew full well what dig it was & I said full grooming & no one said it can't be done. They do a good job grooming when he's been groomed but since according to Pawber, they never fully groomed him, despite me having payment & photo evidence, I can't give a review on that now can I? Also, she offered NO REFUND for last grooming she claims was not full grooming. It was a full groom & looked great. However, I can't recommend a groomer thus confused. I was told due to his age he would have to come in during the week when they were slower, but they had nothing going Sunday yet so they booked him for first appt. I got a call Saturday that they were too booked Sunday now so they wouldn't be able to take him after all. It would seem to me if you booked an appt then you should honor it and not make as many appts. Guess they don't need new customers. Whatever, won't be trying them again. read more
