I'm not a pastrami person. I'm also not a "sit outside and eat hot meat while you sweat from your ears" person. But man, I will do some unpleasant things to get another one of these pastrami sandwiches! My hubby dragged me here (slightly kicking) on the middle of the day in the middle of July when the air was thick, the sun was high, and tolerance was flirting with fire. The wait for the sandwiches and egg rolls, while we were the only ones in line, was a bit longer than expected. He's absolutely a one man show but what he makes, he makes VERY well. My desire for hot meat was about as limited as one can imagine, but when that sandwich came out, I happily relished in the thick cut rye bread, the tangy mustard, and the juicy pastrami dripping down my arm. What's more, the pastrami is fantastic but that coleslaw is the stuff of my dreams. I don't live close to downtown and I'm never there on weekdays, but I really hope to make that venture the next opportunity I get. Highly recommend. read more

I'm here because of the Diners Drive inns and Dives connection. The food was excellent! I got brisket tacos and Ruben tacos so I could try both meats. Both were delicious but I preferred the brisket. The donkey sauce in the brisket tacos was a perfect combination. The guy in the truck was fun to interact with and he certainly is dedicated. There is 1 table and we were happy to have a place to eat but this is no ambiance. It may be best to plan your visit and have a comfortable place to eat. George, the gregarious and very nice owner, is a native of Miami... a town that knows pastrami and Cuban sandwiches. I got a Reuben there. The meat was as tender as can be, and the price was reasonable. So, why didn't I give it a higher rating? Well, here goes: 1. I'm from Pennsylvania where we do not hickory smoke the brisket used for a Reuben. That smokiness, which you want for barbeque, does not work with a Reuben. 2. I'm from Pennsylvania where we put mustard on a pastrami sandwich, but put Russian Dressing on a Reuben. Why? Because it takes the salt and the sauerkraut down a notch. Mustard, salted meat, and sauerkraut are a bit hard to enjoy, especially with the smoky meat. Everything's pushing in the same direction. So, while I like George, and I like his side of cole slaw, I did not enjoy the Reuben sandwich, not because it was bad, but because it failed to meet my expectations. If your expectations are similar, then you'll also be a bit thrown by the flavors. UPDATE: George has graciously mentioned that I should have asked about the Reuben. If you order the Reuben from George, and you want the sandwich the way I like it, ask for the plain brisket rather than the smoked one, and the swiss, sauerkraut, and Russian Dressing. I met this vendor at a yelp event at the science center in Orlando. I enjoyed the samples he served so much that a few friend and I visited his food truck location in Orlando. Started off with the homemade and delicious potato latkes. Crispy and very good.. I finished my lunch with a pastrami Reuben sandwich. It was served with a fabulous homemade coleslaw and a pickle. This review is another entry in my tour of the places in Florida Guy Fieri has eaten at with his show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I have a Yelp collection if you want to follow along with my adventures. The show first aired in 2006 and it is on its 47th season of Guy's road trips across America where he highlights some of America's most underrated and delicious local eats. Guy Fieri visited The Pastrami Project for the episode Multicultural Cooking which aired on episode 11 during season 26. The Pastrami Project is a traditional New York style deli located in a food truck behind Cafe Travastere on Magnolia Avenue near downtown Orlando Mondays through Fridays, from 10 AM until 2 PM. It is the creation of former IT tech turned chef, George Markward. It was such a pleasure to meet and chat with George who could not have been nicer. He was more than happy to entertain all of my questions about what it is like to be featured on DDD. George bakes his own loaves of rye bread which are the sturdy canvas for his sandwich masterpieces. For the pastrami he cuts down brisket and cures it for a week. He then puts on his spice rub, smokes the meat, refrigerates it to make it easier to hand-slice, and finally steams the thick slices before building the sandwiches. The Pastrami Project's menu features $12 meals with coleslaw and half sour pickles. Add $2 to make it a Reuben or Rachel and $11 for double meat. Menu choices include Pastrami with Mustard, Braised Beef Brisket, Deli Cuban, Smoked Turkey, Tuna on Rye, Tuna Melt, and a BLT. Other entrees and sides are tacos, rolls, and fries. Dessert is a Black and White cookie from Daisy's bakery. He also serves breakfast with omelets and bagels. After careful consultation of the menu I decided on the Pastrami Reuben. My sandwich was delivered loaded with a heaping portion of lovingly prepared, tender and flavorful pastrami. Even the slaw was amazing. Of course I had to wash it all down with the perfect accompanying beverage, a Dr. Brown's cream soda. Eating at the Pastrami Project was a long time wish come true. I had first tried the Pastrami Project at the big Yelp event at the Science Center earlier this month and was so blown away that I had to find the food truck to get again. It turned out that I was in the downtown area on a weekday morning so made it my mission. Found him in a pleasant, shaded area off Magnolia and had a fascinating talk with him while he prepared the call-in order that he had gotten before I drove up. It took me way too long to get here but now that I've been they are going to have to tie me down because I want to go ALL THE TIME! Had a doctors appt in the area and popped over to finally try the pastrami. I got the egg and cheese on a bagel (uh yeah, add the pastrami please) and it was amazing. The pastrami was delicious and not skimpy for an "add on"! My mom had the pastrami on rye and said it was like butter, melted in her mouth. We're originally from NYC, my mom born and raised in Brooklyn so she knows the difference between good and better pastrami. She said this was amazing, maybe the best she's ever had. We also splurged and got the latkes which were so crispy and delicious, yum. It's worth a little extra to get the sour cream and the applesauce, trust me! Seating is available but limited so be prepared to take away or eat in the car or as we saw when we drove up, eat out the flatbed of your truck! I think the stuff at Katz in NYC looks similar, but everything else is like bologna compared to this stuff. George (the owner and Pastronomer) is super friendly and is proud of his craft. He prepared my sandwich for my meal and the pastrami was cut think and was so melty delicious! Wow, I just got pastrami and bread as I wanted to just eat it without any other distractions. It sits behind an Italian restaurant off Magnolia so drive slow in the right lane and turn right into the large lot. It's only open 10a-2p on weekdays so if you work, you may have to take a day off to get down here. I was off work for the holidays so I made this a stop! I may plan half days in the future to stuff myself with delicious meat. It's worth it to come here just to meet Georgecand have a great conversation. Didn't care for the pastrami. Too thick. Not like a NY deli. Taste different. Bread just so so. Slaw inedible Cabbage pieces chewy. Pickle inedible. Skin of the pickle like leather. Fries could have been good but way over salted. Still everyone in Orlando should try it just to meet George. Getting a speeding ticket would've been worth it after driving down 95 for the two hour ride to make it to the 2 PM closing of The Pastrami Project. George the chef and owner does all his magic from inside a food truck as he was quite engaging. We discussed our differences in our latke ( potato pancake) recipes. Our party of 4 ordered potato latkes, pastrami Rubens, smoked turkey sandwich, and french fries. All the sandwiches came with a side of coleslaw and a pickle. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious and ample in size. The coleslaw was a different take, and we all enjoyed it very much. The latkes came with a choice of apple sauce or sour cream ( we chose apple sauce) were excellent but not as good as mine of course lol. Next to the food truck, there is a table and chairs under an umbrella where we sat and ate our lunch.George prides himself on his take on Russian dressing which he makes with red caviar. While I prefer traditional Russian this was interesting. My friend was so full from her sandwich she couldn't even eat dinner. We will return another time for another 2 hr road trip as it was well worth it. Things to know- Get your pastrami fix Monday- Friday until 2 pm. Closed weekends. I found this gem on Yelp when attending a meeting nearby. It was a bit hard to find. Fortunately, I was walking. The venue is a permanently located food truck. According to signs, Guy Fieri has eaten here and endorsed the business. They specialize in New York style deli sandwiches. The menu features deli style sandwiches served with coleslaw and a pickle. The place is in an odd area. Guy was nice and helpful. Food wasn't that costly by comparison. Difficult to find a Ruben in FL. Bread - barely ok. Not a good Rye Meat - portion was proper, but the cut is thick and tastes more like corned beef than pastrami Toppings - not enough sauerkraut, needed more dressing and NO MAYO Coleslaw - chunky. Wow, I am soooo excited I found George and, more importantly, his pastrami! The meat was warm and delicious, with just the right amount of smoke and brine. Melt in your mouth style! Then it is placed on the CORRECT rye bread (not to crusty, not too soft), with the CORRECT yellow mustard (tangy!), served with fresh homemade coleslaw and EXCELLENT pickles (I bought ten to take home with me). Oh, and like any proper NY style deli, he has a full line of Dr. Brown's sodas. What a wonderful experience! Keep in mind it is take out only (I ate in my car with the engine running and AC on- was close to 100 out there today!). No tables in the parking lot, which is gravel. How driving for Earth wind and fire I always try to stop by places I've seen on triple D at the opportunity. The pastrami project was right down the street from my hotel. I stopped in for lunch. I was not disappointed. Pastrami was some of the best pastrami I've ever eaten bread was amazing, best Ryebread I've had in a long time. I enjoyed it so much. I had to Tour Manager use him for after show food. They open at 10:00 and we were the first customers. I ordered the pastrami sandwich. The sandwich comes with house made coleslaw and pickle spear . The pastrami was cut thick , hot, and moist.
