The Parish is one of my favorite restaurants in Mississippi. They have a great selection of seafood. They also have specials to keep the menu fresh. It's not cheap but it's good value. Service is always great. I like their decor- it reminds me of the older parts of town in New Orleans. The seating area isn't huge so sometimes it can get loud but they're usually not super busy. I'd like to drink a sazerac here but they seem to primarily offer beer, some of which is local. I recommend you try their bread pudding, and whatever is on the specials menu.

The Parish is tucked away in a small shopping center right off the main drag in beautiful, crime free, Hernando MS. They have a raw oyster bar, sell tasty beers, and have some of the best seafood around our landlocked little area of the world. The chef/owner is the former chef at St. Jude from what I understand. One time when I was there, I saw people bring in fish from the gulf coast and he made them a dish with it. How cool is that!!?? I have had some really fantastic food here, and then I've had some that was just fair. Seafood gumbo used to be mind blowing, but my last couple visits, it was mediocre at best. Crab claws are always great. I love the Grouper and Grits every single time. Oysters are generally good, but again, last visit were pre-shucked, dry, and had no briny taste. Drunk Duck Drummies are so freaking good and unlike anything else with buffalo sauce around here. Blackened fish dishes are good. Red Beans sucked the one time I got it. Boo. Bread pudding and Bananas Fosters cheesecake is gosh damn fantastic. You can usually find some really good daily specials as well. I could write for days about the food. Servers are starting to look kind of sloppy and tired as there seems to be zero dress code in place. I swear my server was wearing pajamas and had not brushed her hair that day on my last visit. That's cool by me, but it's important to some folks. I will say that the nicest, most peppy, and efficient server in America also works here. This place is awesome if everything lines up for you on your visit. I will be back, no matter what. '24 - 34/100

Everything was amazing. The food, people, service, and atmosphere were perfect. I had just returned from NOLA and still had the best meal. They know what they are doing. Get the stuffed fish.

I really wanted to give them 5 stars but an unsettled spirit won't let me. I'll elaborate on that later. First thing, you must get there before the dinner crowd or it's going to be a long wait. My friends, sister, and I arrived around 3:45 and only had to wait 5 mins. The restaurant has a small bar near the entrance and then there's seating on both sides. They don't serve cocktails only beer. As far as the food nothing was a miss! The oysters were delicious and well seasoned. I ordered the crawfish bread and omg, it is a must!!! Then for my main entree I had the fish and shrimp combo, it was fried and seasoned to perfection. I wish it was a bigger fillet or at least two fillets. My sister had frog legs and stated they didn't disappoint her. And another thing, if you go DO NOT forget to order the bread pudding...I have never tasted one so delectable! I do want to give a huge kudos to our server, Allyson she was consistent, friendly, and welcoming. The drawback to my 4 star rating was I notice something that kept occurring but didn't realize until the end of my dinner what really happened. So I noticed and my party, a guy kept stopping at tables asking, "How was the food?" "Did everyone enjoy everything?" Also, just making small talk with everyone except for my table. I mean every party that came in, even the people at the bar he checked in frequently but kept avoiding my table. I realized at the end he was the owner or manager of this establishment. I assumed, my kind isn't his preference. That really put a damper on my experience.

    Fried jumbo shrimp
    Chris H.

Really enjoyed the raw oysters and the jumbo shrimp basket. The shrimp were fried & had just the right amount of batter on them to get that crunch without all the oiliness of grease. The taste was fresh so I am guessing the oil is fresh bc the shrimp tasted like shrimp. The shoe string seasoned fries and cole slaw were great compliments to the main dish. The service is excellent with so many staff member checking in or asking if the food is good. They know the food is good!! Being in this restaurant is like being at a fish camp on the bayou without the mosquitos. The friendly welcoming atmosphere is like stepping back in time where everyone knows your name. Always enjoying coming in here for a taste of the gulf!

    Food Rating A!

This is one of those instances that I wish Yelp had half stars. While I thought the food was very good. I felt like there was enough improvements needed to cost them a half star, but not quite enough to cost them a whole. Don't get me wrong. Its very difficult for a Seafood Restaurant to be extremely successful this far from the ocean. They just don't have the benefits of fresh daily catches like restaurants in Florida or anywhere on the coast. That being said ...... Our food was pretty fresh and with all those things considered. The very small issues I had were more on the side techniques of cooking. I got the Boiled Gulf Shrimp Dinner and The Seafood Gumbo. They were both good! However ..... I do feel like the taste of everything could have been much better. Usually when I get this meal. Everything is very juicy and the flavors mesh together. This is because they normally boil everything together. This plate tasted like everything was cooked separately. The corn and sausage was a little dry. I feel like they were cooked separate from the shrimp. The shrimp were decent size but a little small for the price of the plate. You could tell everything was fresh and it did have a great flavor separately. The Seafood Gumbo was good but needed a little more seasoning in my opinion. Nothing would prevent me from coming back and I look forward to trying some of the other food offered. The ambiance was nice and everyone was very friendly. Our waitress was awesome and stayed on top of everything. The inside was very clean and up to date. I did notice they received an A on the last food rating. That is hard to get and keep unless you are going above and beyond. I look forward to coming back soon to try the Oysters and a few other items. If you want some good seafood in this area. I do recommend The Parish over all the other choices for sure. They are a little pricey so keep that in mind.

Jesus Lord help us all. If they are cooking like this, everyone else should be ashamed. Just the small menu that they have is exquisite. We tried multiple items and didn't have a single bad bite. We saw a few videos online bragging on the food and figured well there are quite a few good spots in north Mississippi so we would check it out. Management came around to check on us many times and the servers were hustling. First on the table was the drink which has the good ice! We ordered a dozen chargrilled oysters and the crawfish bread. Good Lord help us all I'm telling you go get this bread yall. Oysters were a little on the smaller side but they were fresh. I had the gumbo and he had frog legs. The French fries alone were enough for these stars. This place was slammed bust by the time we left but everything h was running like a well oiled machine. Restrooms were clean and Parking was easy. We will be back. We will bring more people.

First time here. Had the flounder and shrimp plate, blackened. Very good! Fries were really good too. Great service and casual atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

    Amazing chargrilled oysters!
    Julie V.

Somehow, in the last few days, this restaurant in Hernando, MS crossed my radar and entered my brain, never to leave again. Mark and I are always on the hunt for chargrilled oysters like we had for the first time in New Orleans about 10 years ago. We found a decent replica at Pearl's Oyster House here in Memphis...but then they closed. When The Parish popped up on my FB feed, I clicked on it and checked out the menu....they had chargrilled oysters!!! And on top of that, the rest of the menu was super enticing!! And to add another layer, the reviews were top tier, for service and food both! I KNEW I had to get down there to eat asap! Fortunately, Mark wholeheartedly agreed and we set out on the 45 minute drive tonight, just hoping it lived up to the hype, at least to some degree. Well, let me tell you....it DID!! From the service to ALL of the food, this casual NOLA-style eatery has it going ON! We started with a dozen chargrilled oysters that were the fattest I think I've ever had! Now...to be honest...they are not the SAME as the NOLA style w be come to love, but they were fantastic in their own right! They weren't as "saucy" as we've had and the flavor wasn't just purely in the toppings...these babies were delicious on their OWN!! YUM!! I ordered a cup of gumbo, because DUH...no brainer. Mark actually kept coming back for more spoonfuls and he's NOT a gumbo guy. Our entrees: Well, to be expected, Mark ordered the seafood platter (all fried), which included a massive slab of perfectly seasoned, dusted and fried flounder, very lightly battered yummy jumbo shrimp (-another thing Mark doesn't think he likes, but he LOVED!), those plump oysters FRIED, and a crab-stuffed crab shell, along with the requisite French fries (which were also quite good)! Everything was fresh tasting and nice and hot! Just perfect! I ordered one of my menu go-tos, shrimp and grits! Again with the massive fluffy shrimp in a soup of tasso ham and mushrooms, atop a huge pile of stone ground grits...Mark kept coming back for more bites of this, too, and he's not a shrimp and grits guy, either. Just YUM! At this point, we are slowing WAY down, because we are getting quite full...but we had already perused the dessert menu and they had THREE of our faves...crème brûlée, a bananas foster, and bread pudding with praline sauce and ice cream! While it was a tough decision, we went with the bread pudding and let me tell you...perfection! Texture and temperature were PERFECT! Nice and hot and not too sweet..the sweetness came from the luscious praline pecan sauce! Scoop a bite of the vanilla ice cream with it and it's dessert heaven! Again, it was another huge portion! By the time we packed up our leftovers, it looked like we had come to pick up a to-go order! Our server was really great, too! I saw a gentleman walking around....definitely seemed to be in charge, but also caring about all the small things...checking on every table, straightening bar stools...you get it. I assumed he was the owner with what I observed....i asked our server and she said he was the manager! He was definitely taking ownership, especially to not actually be the owner. I waved him over the next time he came by just to express how much we enjoyed our meal and what a great job they were all doing there! We will definitely be back and bring some friends with us! I hesitated to give such a public glowing review....only because I don't want it to be hard to get seated in a timely manner in the future. It's worth it, though, to let them get their public flowers and to let everyone know this place is well worth the drive!

I really enjoyed Parish. The blackened grouper was amazing and the side of fries were the right amount of crispy. The gumbo was also really good with great flavor and hearty too. The fried stuffed crass a little rich for a newcomer but good. Baked oysters were outstanding and highly recommended.
