There is much more than just paper in here. In fact it seems that this is a store with many mini shops within it. A lot of the merchandise does center around "paper" like cards, gift wrapping accessories and stationery. However that turns out to be just the tip of the iceberg. Some of the other things they have include Vera Bradley merchandise, costume jewelry, the very fun Alex & Ani bracelet collection, some women's clothing, candles, children's toys, books, local Massachusetts items, home decor like Mariposa and plenty of other things that can be attention grabbers. It's crazy how I can get myself caught up in here looking around. It's hard not to find a little something to buy myself or something as a fun gift for a friend. Ironically I suppose, I don't love the card selection as they Hallmark which are not my favorite. Last year I purchased a Vera Bradley carry-on tote for a trip I was taking. It's a travel bag I've come to love. Not only is it pretty (VB fabrics can be really eye-catching) but I can fit so many things into it and because it's "soft-sided" it's easy to stuff into an overhead bin on a plane or even under the seat. Contrary to another review which said returns are difficult, I found it quite easy to exchange an Alex & Ani bracelet I received at Christmas. I had gotten two of the same bracelet and they happily let me pick out another even without having a receipt. If you sign up for their rewards program, you will regularly receive coupons and a special treat in your birthday month. What a fun store! I tend to forget about it until a holiday draws me in. My wife and I stopped in and were greeted merrily on entry. Got to chatting and joking with the folks that were hard at work right off. Lots of camaraderie and teasing among themselves made for a fun atmosphere. Lots of products, something for everyone. I am always amazed when I read a bad Yelp review. Some people believe that they should come first no matter who else may be waiting. I have never had any issues when I have been shopping there and they are more than helpful. And yes holiday help may not be knowledgeable about everything, give them a break they have been there for at most three months! Purchased greeting card and some Godiva chocolates for anniversary. Was asked, would I like a bag, fifteen cents. "Yes..... but would you ask if this were a hundred dollar purchase?" "Yes." I mentioned that I spend a few hundred dollars a year at the store, were they willing to loose that for the bag charge? No answer, and it was certainly not the clerk making these decisions. However, I will go out of my way to AVOID shopping there. Bag charge at supermarkets is ok, these trips are usually planned and large scale. But Paper Store? So I've been going to the Hingham Paper store for the past few weeks for my early Christmas shopping. I have a small dog that I have brought with me multiple times now and have spent several hundred dollars in gift. I went to day and actually got thrown out immediately as I entered because my dog was with me I explained how I had been going there and was always allowed in with her and the associate with an extremely rude attitude treated me as if I was lying to her made a big deal in front of other customers and as she told me to leave she took pleasure in it. I was with a friend as well who I told to continue to shop while I waited outside and while waiting saw the associate keep looking out at me and smiling. As if gloating about the fact she threw me out. I can't believe that this store gets away with bald faced lying to their customers. Bought items online, paid for online. Went to pick up my purchase; big sign on the door; "Avoid the line, buy online". Pure fiction, actually, false advertising. You have to get in the line to pick up the item you purchased and paid for online. There had to be 25-30 people in line. I was livid. Told them to keep it! What else are they lying about. Crocs ;0), then you'll ADORE this store! Trust me, you can kill a good hour or two here. It's totally geared toward the stationery-store-accessories-jewelry-loving girls. Be careful when coming to this store... because you'll end up spending more than originally planned simply because there is just so many amazing things to buy in there!! I visited this store for the first time last week to buy a gift for an anniversary, and I was astonished :) such a variety of things to buy! Great place for undecisive people (ME). The prices are legit, a little expensive on a few corners, but well worth the price I would say. The customer service was great, they helped me find what I needed and was on-top of the gift wrapping (They made it look great). I only wish that there was a store in Boston so that I may go there more often, unfortunately there isn't... why isn't this store in Boston yet?! Great great great is all I have to say! I just wanted to add to Lacey K's review of this store. I was near the door when she was trying to come in with her dog. I thought that the associate at the door handled this situation very well and was not at all rude! I cannot imagine any store that sells food would allow a dog, other than a service dog, into a store. I've shopped this store and other paper stores for years and have never seen shoppers with dogs! Don't let the name fool you. It's certainly more than just a card store. There are home accessories, Life Is Good items, Lilly Pulitzer stationery, books, shoes, clothes, jewelry, books, stationery, and Vera Bradley items. Oh, and cards, too. If you're in the Derby Street Shoppes and you don't feel like walking down to Barnes & Noble to kill an hour or two, this is the place to go. Don't let the daunting display of Vera Bradley stop you from walking in. If you can make it through, you may be pleasantly surprised. It's not an old-ladies store, either! Naturally, their selection and inventory is constantly changing. However, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful (sometimes a little too helpful and pushy). read more

I would never go to the store again and pay a dime. My mother who is in her 80s could not return something during the Christmas time mostly because she could not stand in lines. Very large store with lots to choose from, they have great selection of cards, books, gifts, packaged food, and of course paper! Went in looking for a card, but had to check out all the wonderful items they have to offer. This store is very clean and organized. The check out was very fast, they had many cashiers working. I also saw many employees walking around the shop willing to assist. Need to go back for a gift item next time. read more

We purchased the table number for our wedding through the Derby street Paper store and they did a fantastic job- definitely warranting 5 stars! So we went back to purchase our thank you cards. We decided on a style that would need to be special ordered and were told that we could expect them in three week. After four weeks we stopped in to check on the status of order and were told that person who had placed the order was out sick and would call us upon returning to work. The next day she did call but told us that she had forgotten to place the order...ugh! The reason we are still giving four stars is that she owned up to her mistake. The manager I subsequently spoke with had great customer service skills and definitely won back our business-although we did choose to go through another company for the thank you cards we will definitely continue to shop at the Derby st. I went in to this store looking to get my mom a gift for her last chemo treatment. I had no idea what I wanted and was walking around aimlessly. I saw a sign for the pink tulip Alex and Ani where 20% of the proceeds went to breast cancer. It was perfect. An employee came over because she could tell I was lost. She asked if she could help me and I asked for that bracelet. Unfortunately, they were all out and made sure to take down the sign so others didn't ask. She then went on to help me brainstorm for other gifts and when she was left stumped she asked a few other employees too. We ultimately decided that the Alex and Ani bracelet was perfect so she looked up what other stores had them, called the store asked them to put it on hold for me and gave me directions to get to it, it was only 10 minutes away!!! I was so thankful for the employees help, they were all so kind and thoughtful! I wish I had your name so I could thank your manager but I didn't even think to ask! I can't say enough kind words about Nikki who helped me with styling my wedding invites, creating place cards, and so much more. I joked with her she was like an honorary bridesmaid. My daughter bought me a gift from The Paper Store in a town located where she lives. I live over an hour away from her. That's one of the reasons why she left me with a gift receipt. When I went to return the item at the Hingham, MA store, I was told that I would need my daughter's debit card in order to credit her account. Now, why would I have her debit card? One would think all you would need is the gift receipt. I was told that they would allow a merchandise credit only. Absolutely ridiculous return policy!!! Do not plan on purchasing any gifts at this store unless you are completely positive the individual will keep it. read more
