When I started working in the Pasong Tamo area, I despaired about two things -- the flooding, and the lack of places to eat if you don't want to spend lunch hour at your desk. I was immediately led by officemates to The Pantry, a mere 5-minute walk from our office. The first thing that struck me was the simple but quite tasteful interiors. Chalkboards, real wood panels and tables, mismatched chairs and benches, good lighting. Then I got their menu and was impressed by the selection -- they had everything from mushroom salpicao to pork sinigang, a lot of veggies, and native desserts. It felt like reading through the menu of a high-end carenderia! Seriously! And the food was good. I mean not just passable -- it was well-seasoned, well-cooked, and they were served in good-sized personal portions.
