    Dirty Matcho

Makers of good coffee and tea, although, they have a Limited selection of tea. The Dirty Matcho, matcha with cocoa and shaved chocolate, was an interesting combination. I'm not a big fan of matcha but I found this drink pleasant!

Great service. Great food. Great Ambiance! Would recommend this place. They have parking. Better than Starbucks!

I came here about 2 years ago when I was on vacation and I still remember and crave their Kori Kohi coffee. I came here yesterday with my family and this particular branch had really good service and the ambiance of the place was so nice and trendy. The only thing I didn't like about this place was that they didn't have wifi at all. We got their Mango Crepe Samurai (Php 220)($4.12) and it was very creamy and the mangoes were perfectly sweet. Their Mango Creme Brûlée Cake (Php 250)($4.68) was fluffy, soft and not overwhelmingly sweet. For my drink, I was able to try their Kori Kohi (Php 220)($4.12) and it's still as good as I remember it! They give a glass of warm milk and a shot of liquid syrup next to the glass of their coffee ice cubes. The warm milk was just hot enough to melt some of the cubes for the flavor of the coffee but not hot enough to melt all of them. I usually have coffee without cream or sugar, so for me, I didn't add the liquid sugar and it was perfect.

I am starting this review with an apology: I am sorry I went to UCC 3rd Wave Clockwork a bit biased against it. I knew that Clockwork was supposed to be UCC's foray into 3rd Wave, but I've always associated UCC with being a bit overbearing, with the subtlety of a truck horn. What could they possibly bring to the table that wouldn't be laughed off by the coffee snobs in Metro Manila? I suspected I would have to swallow my prejudices early on as soon as I entered their Blue Bay branch. If anything, Clockwork threw out all the cheesy/festive elements of the normal UCCs and went in hard with the coffee hipster aesthetic. In this case, they pulled it off well. The branch is huge and was dressed up as a coffee warehouse/hipster loft, minus the more pretentious elements of both aesthetics. Clockwork beats out all the third wave players with its coffee inventory. In a word, the inventory is staggering. You had a dozen single origins to choose from, as well as a number of specialty drinks and your old standbys (Americano, Lattes, Flats). The coffee was on point, very much so. But what won me over was the quality of their food. I hate to admit this but most of the third wavers falter with their food selections. Clockwork's food knocks it off the park. It is both comforting and familiar, and they have items that are unique and witty. All in all a brilliant experience.

The Good: Great Coffee, amazing food choices! The Bad: Can be bait pricey The Pro-Tip: Chat your barista up about the coffee! The staff is well trained and knowledgable and will gladly answer all of your questions about their coffee! I'm one of those people who see coffee as more of a necessity rather than a luxury. If there's one place that can change my mind about this, its UCC Clockwork! Signifying UCC's foray into the 3rd Wave playground, clockwork is an impressive place that serves excellent coffee! They serve the usual selection of robusta and arabica, as well as the signature UCC Blue Mountain No.1. But every now and then, they also get rare and expensive varieties like the Rwanda beans which I was lucky enough to try! Ask the barista about what special/rare beans they have, you might just be surprised! The baristas are all very helpful and knowledgable - chat them up, they know and love their coffee! Finally the food is nothing to sneeze at! They offer a respectable selection of appetisers, pastas and salads. My fiancee's favorite is the Guilt-Free Salad! It's a salad with a coffee-vinigrette dressing! Pretty good, actually! Will we come back? Definitely!

This place ranks at the top of my personal favorite places for coffee and breakfast. Things may get a bit pricey but it's a small trade off for the peace and quiet AND good service that cannot be found at other coffee places. Today I opted for my favorite heavy breakfast - their Country Style Corned Beef. It comes with a with fried rice, egg and a side salad, which BTW, deserves a separate review on its own. For the month of December , their breakfast items will come with a cup of their House Blend coffee!

After trying the Chorizo Fondido from UCC Café Mentore, I figured that dishes from UCC Clockwork would taste as good. We visited the restaurant at around 8 pm. The place was quite dark, especially on the second floor (only the elderly and the PWD were allowed to occupy the tables on the ground floor). There was a section on the second floor where lighting was much brighter than the rest. I wanted to take photos of the food so I took a seat in one of those tables. The server immediately informed me that they would require Php4,500 worth of consumables for that table. Since there were only four of us and each dish approximated Php300-500+, there was no way we would reach that amount so we ended up transferring to another table. Later on, I noticed that they opened that section to the public (without asking for the Php4,500 consumables). I was completely disappointed with how they treated our group. Anyway, here's what we ordered: Baked Seafood Gratin - it had shrimps, mussels, scallops, and squid in creamy garlic sauce, and came with excellently grilled garlic bread; our favorite among everything we ordered, worth coming back for! Angus Sukiyaki Beef Tapa - US Angus beef cooked tapa-style; tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned; came with garlic rice, house salad with sesame dressing, and egg Fresh Corned Beef with Kimchi Rice - corned beef was thickly sliced but surprisingly very tender; use of kimchi rice instead of garlic rice was really innovative, however dish was too spicy Country Style Corned Beef - beef was sliced into appetizingly thin strips; there were some parts that were a bit fatty but everything was good nonetheless Sausage Al Tartufo - contained a generous serving of sausages, and mushrooms in light cream and drizzled with truffle oil Portions were huge, perfect for sharing. I would've given this restaurant a higher rating if not for the unfair treatment given to customers (see above).

Having a late-night weekly devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Baclaran Church) sometimes presents a need for us to be on stand-by until the clock strikes midnight and it's officially Wednesday. Such is the case when we first tried UCC Clockwork, the coffee chain's take on the 3rd wave trend in cafés. It was a pleasant change to see that it's set-up the way it is - high ceilings, a mezzanine for additional dining, nice lighting fixtures to the circular bar where they prepare caffeine-based and caffeine-free creations. I ordered the Matcha Tea Latte; caffeine-free because I didn't want to stay up until 5am the next day. They only have one serving size, which I thought was a bit limiting. Though after finishing my rather flavorful cup of matcha, I found it to be enough. I liked the ambience so much that I went back the following week and ordered their hot Cafe con Miel (with honey, milk and coffee) to help keep me warm.

    Best seats in the house!

Is it just me or the age of industrial looking cafe is now upon us? I previously did a coffee trail both in HK and SG where I've noticed most of the inviting coffee shops boosts industrial plus comfortable furniture as a space. Here in the Philippines we're already catching up and one of the most well designed coffee shops that serves pretty good coffee is UCC Clockwork in Blue bay. Having a high ceiling, with a mezzanine which is actually has homey furnitures that compliments the entire cafe. The best seats in the house is actually the seats upstairs where you'd be able to see an open bar serving up freshly brewed coffee downstairs. You'd even witness the intricate details the baristas do while preparing your coffee of choice. Other than the coffee they also serve pretty good pastries and cakes. If you ever visit with a hungry tummy, best bet is to try their pasta dishes! I did and I'm currently craving for it, again! I've heard they'll open another one in Estancia. That's definitely something I'll look forward!

Thirdwave coffee shops have been opening all over the metro! My my my. The coffee addict in me is rejoicing. When I discovered UCC Clockwork, a few weeks after it opened, I knew there's a new tambay place I could go to. UCC Clockwork's interior is.. spacey. It well lit as well. A mix of grunge and the classic. I like it here. While Starbucks and CBTL tend to be very crowded, UCC is not. I'm not sure because its has just opened.. I've not been here for a couple of months already.. but, God, I hope its not yet noisy and full in here. I like the sanctuary it offered me before. I can concentrate on working while having my fix of coffee. Coffee wise, it's delicious. I admit, their prices are a bit more than the others. I tried their Judy on the rocks, a really strong acidic coffee with cheesecake on top. I.. I have mixed feelings on this but it could work on some people :p I also tried their pastry, I recommend their chocolate and matcha croissants!

    Yummiest breakfasts...so happy!

First morning in Manila and stopped in...coffees are Global, delicious and so well made...but the food is so incredible! Amazing corned beef hash and pancakes that are so delectable that the border on being desserts...their lunch menu looks amazing as well! Skip Starbucks and other chain coffee shops and visit here...you will not be disappointed!

Came here for breakfast with some friends! Service was fast and great. The coffee was fresh and good. I had the breakfast sampler that included 3 different meats. The pork was very tasty. It comes with eggs done your way and garlic rice which is pretty standard here in the Philippines. Overall it was a good meal and would come back.

I couldn't deny the feeling to be proud local and thankful to whoever started this franchise. I'll support this business to anyway I can provided I am a resident of the country but sadly I am not, just one of the visiting "Balikbayan". I grew up drinking "kapeng barako" so I would say their coffee somehow will not be far from my expectation. Oh boy! They offer modified flavors that surprisingly tickled our taste buds. It was beyond to what we imagine. The alternative version of their cafe espresso made me enjoy coffee more than ever. I am pretty sure you'll agree with me that in comparison to nearby Starbucks pricing, this place is way reasonable. They offer more than coffee. Tried their local flavored muffins and find it tastes equally right with others. The atmosphere of the coffee shop is contemporary/ modern with Filipino touch which is for me is very appealing. I'd been a supporter of local businesses in my hometown in Queens, New York so it with full pride that trying their coffee was worth it and will support the business whenever I can.

Calligratherapy is Fozzy's way of bringing calligraphy enthusiasts together. It's not a class or a workshop. It's basically just a fun afternoon of eating, drinking coffee, meeting new people and well, doing calligraphy! Signing up was quite difficult. With all the Fozzy fans out there, getting a slot was like shooting the winning shot in the NBA Finals. I kid you not, I had to shoo away my boyfriend from his laptop, just so I could use it to sign up and it took me an hour! When I e-mailed Fozzy to confirm my slot, she mentioned that she was scared that people were breaking her website because a lot of people were having a difficult time signing up. Anyway, I got a slot. I came to Staple & Perk and I was like a kid in Disneyland seeing Princess Jasmine for the first time. I was star strucked. Okay, non-calligraphy enthusiasts may not get it, but seriously, it was like meeting your number one idol. She welcomed me and gave me a few sheets of paper, plus her special Awesome Practice Pad, which the calligratherapists were able to have a first look of that day. None of us wanted to use it. For some reason, we didn't want to waste the beautiful paper that smelled so good, I wanted to hug it. To start off, we introduced ourselves one by one and for some reason, Fozzy wanted us to tell everyone the one food we could eat every day for the rest of our lives. I guess it was some kind of ice breaker, which worked perfectly. Afterwards, Fozzy was open to questions from beginner calligraphy enthusiasts like me. We asked about different fonts, how to use certain kinds of inks and how to scan our prints. Remember how I said that this was just bring all of us together? Well, Fozzy kept saying, "This is not a class guys! Have fun!" Probably because we were all so eager to practice our new knowledge from Fozzy. We were served food and unlimited coffee (yay!). There was a little table set up also by Scribe for us to buy new materials for our calligraphy needs. I had enough self-control to not buy anything because I tend to hoard all these inks and papers. We ended with just chit chats with Fozzy and our table mates. I actually made new friends, Lyra and Deng. We shared different kinds of inks and tips with each other and Lyra even traded one of my inks for Fozzy's Notebook of Infinite Patience. I absolutely enjoyed Calligratherapy because I loved meeting new people, having unlimited coffee and of course, meeting one of my idols.
