This vet is the vet to go to if you have a sick cat. He is caring and patient; he clearly loves cats and understands that they are family members. He is also very good for well care, but just want to reiterate that he is where you should take your cat in case of emergency vet care. My first experience with him was with a very sick cat. I called just minutes before closing but he waited the 25 minutes it took me to drive there to see me cat, even though at the time I had never taken a cat to his office. As I was leaving, well after his closing time, another pet owner was coming in with their sick kitty bundled in a blanket. He truly cares. I highly recommend this vet. read more

Dr. Duncan and his wife were so so loving to my 3 month old kitten we brought to them. They offered great advice to us on how to raise him properly and also suggested getting another kitten so he could play with him instead of our arms and feet. Best place to get your cats taken care of. We had one congenial cat who lived a long and happy life until he got sick and Dr. D kept him as pain free as possible until the end. Great vet - for my cat. He specializes in cats, and it shows. My last vet just couldn't answer those "small" questions... and, I was very happy to see how the prices aren't higher, in fact they are a bit lower. A true cat lover, he understands what's good and bad for cats - like too many vaccines, kidney aliments (and how a cat fountain will work wonders) - and doesn't push unneeded services, with many solutions that don't enrich him in any way. His style strikes me as very honest, and caring for the animal, and he has the special knowledge that only a person who primarily works on cats knows. Even my cat doesn't dislike him very much, and she isn't known for being social, that's about as much of a 5 star review as she gives. Anybody with a cat should go here, it is worth the drive - you'll save money with his tips that pay for the gas, and your feline will be better cared for! read more

Hands down THE ONLY vet for your cat. I thought all was lost with out family fav cat . He lost half his body weight & was a stick. It was heartbreaking to see him in that condition. Not sure why my review vancished but be warned. I posted it on 10/24/2017 Went there to get blood work for cat and there was no vet tech to help. My spouse and I were instructed to hold cat and even apply pressure to the vein so it would pop up out of the skin to make it easier to draw. We are not vet techs and not trained to do such things. After 3 attempts trying to draw enough blood, he finally gave up. The blood drawn was not enough to get a complete blood workup done. He also wanted to cut out a lump from our cats face before aspirating it with a needle to determine what it was first and without a complete blood work up. Needless to say we were not happy and found another vet even though it would cost more. Next after the blood test came back, incomplete , we were told by this vet and the lab that we would not have to pay another $100 to run the test, so we had the new vet draw the blood and the lab would not honor what we were told a few days prior, they wanted the blood to come from the first vet, so we asked if we could transfer the blood to his business and have him send it to the lab. His wife with whom we spoke with said she would have to ask and complained that we went to another vet, but that her husband would have to call us back. He did call back and he refused to help. read more

They are incredibly flexible and have advised us and provided care through several tough pet health situation and thanks to them our cats have never been healthier. This is a rather long review, but if you live in the vicinity of Springfield, MO, and have a cat, it is worth reading. I have had cats for 22 years, and have taken them to seven different vets during this time (I moved several times, which partially accounts for the large number of vets). I can say without a doubt, and emphatically, that Dr. Stan Duncan (graduate of one of the best vet schools in the country, Ohio State) at the Pampurred Cat is the best vet that I have ever taken my cats to see! Here are several reasons why: 1) He specializes and treats only cats (sorry doggies!). 2) He regularly attends conferences in order to keep up with the latest findings in his field, which he puts into practice. That is EXTREMELY important to me! (Imagine your own MD who is 20 years behind the times because they didn't attend conferences...). 3) He does almost all procedures (aside from surgery and dental) with you in the room (only if you want to be in the room, you don't have to) so that you can comfort your kitty. This includes drawing blood or urine, and even shaving my long-haired cat, which he was able to do without anesthesia. But, you do not have to be in the room if you don't want to be. I saw a previous review complaining he doesn't have a vet tech to do this stuff. Me, I prefer to have the vet himself do these things, and to do them with me present; otherwise, my cats would be afraid. My current (inferior) vet takes the cat away into another room to draw blood or urine, and I am not permitted to go with her; my cat looks over the vet's shoulder at me as she is being dragged out of the exam room, looking horrified, which breaks my heart. Going to the vet is already a traumatizing experience, and it is much better to be with them when these things need to be done. Yeah, you might see a little blood, and yeah, you might have to help hold her leg straight, but think of your kitty. They would prefer you, rather than some stranger, be there with them! 4) His boarding facilities give the kitties a window to look out of (don't know if this is still the case, but there used to be an emu farm they could see from the window). I saw one previous negative review regarding boarding, but I boarded all four of my cats on multiple occasions with them, and never had any problems at all. 5) He does thorough exams. I have been amazed at how many vets I have seen that don't take my cat's temp, or who don't look into their ears or teeth. Dr. Stan does all of these and more. For example, if my cat had a tartar build-up on her tooth, he would try to scrape it off with his thumbnail. I have never had any other vet do that! Don't get me wrong, if they needed a cleaning, he would schedule one, but in the meantime, why not help prevent things from getting worse? 6) I thought his pricing was fair, certainly less than the first vet I saw when I moved to Springfield, and WAY less than I've paid in other parts of the country. Also, perhaps more importantly, and unlike most vets I've seen over the years, he doesn't recommend unneeded tests. He always gave me a good and justifiable reason for any test that he performed. My current (and again, inferior) vet has racked up big bucks from me for various blood tests, urine tests, X-rays, and other stuff every year without any justification other than to say they were "due for it." Guess I'm a sucker, 'cause I paid for them. Dr. Duncan does not do this, and only recommends tests when the situation warrants them. 7) He's just a good, straightforward sort of guy who actually cares about cats. For example, there was a cat dumped on his doorstep when she had not even opened her eyes yet and was not yet weaned. He nursed her back to health (it was amazing that she even survived, the odds were not good), and I monitored her progress and eventually got her from them when she was stabilized. She is my one remaining kitty. I had to feed her Queen's Milk initially, that's how young she was. She is still alive and kicking 18 years later! Also, his wife Becky (who has also had some veterinary training) works the office, and she is wonderful too, a real sweet person! 8) I moved out of MO in 2006. That was the year when he last saw my cats. Now, in 2018, he is still willing to generally discuss cat health issues on the phone with me. I called him today, after 12 years of not having one of my cats as a patient. Now, I didn't ask about a specific cat, because it wouldn't be ethical for him to answer about a specific cat that he hadn't seen in that many years. But, he did answer a very general question about the latest veterinary thinking regarding evidence about a particular treatment (specifically, regarding whether or not there is medical evidence showing that kidney disease in cats can be slowed by subdural saline infusion; the answer is yes, it prevents dehydration). My own current vet refused to answer the same question unless I paid for an exam (needless to say, she is no longer my vet). read more

The absolute worst place to board your baby. Left my sweet kitty there thinking she was in the perfect place to be taken care of only to come back from vacation to pick her up and she had lost almost half her body weight and was covered in her own urine and had to have been like that for days. They said they couldn't get her to eat but only because they tried to change her diet over to science diet without my permission. I had to throw her bedding away that was sent with her due to it was so soaked in urine it smelt like pure ammonia. I went back to talk to them about the charges and was willing to negotiate for the other services but did not want to pay for the boarding since she had been neglected for 10 days and the were not willing to negotiate. I have contacted the ASPCA and the state of Missouri. If you love your cat the way I do-I do NOT recommend boarding here. There is possible legal action being taken. read more
