First, I would like to mention, we had an appointment for a week later so he could have his first examination. Fortunately this clinic cares so much about our pets, they will do everything they can to get an injured pet seen ASAP! Second, I would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to Sunshine Animal Hospital for everything they did! My rabbit injured his leg and would not put weight on it. We were given an appointment for as soon as the clinic opened in the morning. As soon as the necessary paperwork had been completed, we were taken into an exam room where the veterinarian promptly came in to examine Elmer. She Took her time and was very thorough. Since Elmer had only been with us for a few months, we hadn't had a chance to get him a check up yet. We brought up a few other concerns and the vet was happy to examine him further and answer several questions we had. I think she was happy to know we were concerned enough about our pet to take the time to observe his health and address it as soon as possible. Turns out, what looked to be a slight buildup of earwax was a serious case of ear mites. (This is why it is very important to have a pet checked as soon as you can after you get it!) During the visit, the vet and her assistant were very gentle and kind to Elmer. He was very scared. I was greatly impressed with their abilities and understanding of how to treat a rabbit who is scared as well as their confidence while holding him to prevent him from injuring himself. A true testament to their level of experience and education. Diagnosis: sprained leg and strained muscles, ear mites. Treatment: anti-inflammatory pain medication which was only needed for four doses over three days and ear drops for two weeks. Total cost: $81. Total value of visit and care: Priceless! What really surprised me was receiving a phone call from Sunshine Animal Hospital three days later to check on Elmer's condition. I've never had a veterinary clinic or hospital call to check on my pet after a visit. I know they truly care and I will never take any pets elsewhere. Nor will I recommend anyone else. read more

DOCTORS REFUSED SERVICE IN THE MOMENT OF CRISIS AND DISTRESS. Dr. Francka, Dr. Zacharias and unfriendly staff would not take my calls and refused service when I came in with a dog who lost a lot of blood due to the birth of puppies and needed immediate attention. They refused service due to the fact that I switched clinics and using a different vet now. SHAME ON SUNSHINE ANIMAL HOSPITAL! After all, I am glad that I switched Veterinarians for a good reason the first time. PS. The reason I went to SAH was that it was 6.30 pm and they were the only clinic open at that time, my regular vet closes at 6pm. Of course, after I was turned away by SAH I went to the emergency hospital on Glenstone. Scheduled an appointment here for our rabbit a week in advance and confirmed the appointment only to show up and find out they closed early for the day. No call. Nothing. Then while we're waiting outside trying to figure out what's going on two people were waiting inside pretending like they couldn't see us. Finally someone came to the door and told us they had to close early because the place next door was being remodeled. We understand things pop up but it really sucks to spend all that time going in and then being treated like this after wasting our time. We definitely won't be coming back here. read more

This is the worst animal hospital or vet office I have ever experienced. I took my 4 cats there for baths and flea medicine. When I went to pick them up my bill was twice as much as I had agreed to and multiple unauthorized charges were included. The office and the supposed owner were very unprofessional and unwilling to discuss the situation in a proper manner. I gave them my credit card and they ran it but refused to give me back my cats because I refused to sign the receipt as I disagreed with the charges. I had to call the police to try and get my cats back. The entire Vet office just escalated the situation worse and worse. I finally got my cats back after over 2 hours of being there. I was so focused on getting my pets back that I did not realize that they did not give me the almost $300 worth of revolution flea medication. My cats are all still scratching and I have reason to believe that all of the service that they supposedly did were not done. My cats would not be scratching had they been given proper flea baths and revolution flea medication. I have a police report filed to support my claims incase anyone wants to question any of this. read more

I can't say enough good things about Sunshine Animal Hospital. Everyone there, from the doctors to the front desk staff, is kind and professional. They're excellent at comforting frightened animals. They have helped us with our cat's persistent ear infections, trying less invasive treatments first before suggesting more costly and in-depth procedures. One of the few Vets around the SP to take 'exotic' pets (rodents, reptiles, birds, etc), be opened on a Saturday and not charge an arm and a leg. I took my g.pig here when I noticed he hadn't been eating or drinking. Sadly he had to be put down but the staff were very caring and curtious through my ordeal (yeah, I cried over a rodent) and I will definitely return there with my less exotic pets. read more

I had been going to the same vet for about 4 years. It is a long drive and out of the way so I decided to switch to Sunshine Animal Hospital because during the weekdays it stays oepn until 7pm which allows me to go after work. I took my dog in because I suspected she had a ear infection. I was greeted by two friendly girls at the front desk. The office seemed clean to me. I REALLY REALLY liked the vet. My dog was in a lot of pain from her double ear infection and the vert was so friendly, gentle, and caring to my dog. You can tell the vet and staff really do take pride in caring for animals. The reason I gave 4 stars was because the price seems kind of high. It was $44.oo for an office visit, and then the vet had to take samples of my dogs ear wax and view it under a microscope which cost $12.00 more. Sometimes you have to pay extra for good care! After all was said and done my visit cost about $110.00. I will be back because I really liked the attitude and kindness of the vet with my dog. I would reccommend this vet :) read more

Highly Recommend. I recently adopted my cat, Nina, and she needed to be seen ASAP due to sickness. I called the night before and left a message expressing my concern and then I recalled in the morning and they got me right in and took great care of my baby. The Vet was very knowledgeable and put my concerns to rest, as well as treating Nina. I also called back multiple times with questions and they were able to answer them promptly. Sunshine animal hospital almost caused the death of my sweet loving lab. They gave me the wrong syringes for his diabetes. These were special order and everyone at sunshine animal failed to even check the prescription they were selling! Avoid this place. My dog was suffering for no reason and the malpractice they practice cause permanent damage to my dog!!! read more

Made an appointment to get my ferret his distemper shot on a tuesday and was told to come in saturday morning for it. Well saturday morning comes and an hour before our appointment they call saying the shot is on back order and has been for a year and half!! Are you kidding me?! The office lady or the vet (who she said she had to go and ask about the shot when I originally called) couldnt of said something a weeks ago?!?! Even I know the shot isn't being made anymore and vets are now using the puppy version now. Obviously these people are clueless about "exotics". DO NOT USE THEM! read more

Found this vet for my hedgehog, and they are one of the few vets in the Springfield area that take exotic pets like hedgehogs. I was nervous to take my hedgie to a vet and was worried about the cost, as I am a college student and am on an incredibly tight budget. However, everyone at Sunshine is soooo nice and helpful and welcoming. I was instantly greeted when I walked in the door. They are are quick to help with any issues and I have never had any attitude or resistance when it comes to getting me extra information or help. I had to take my hedgie in multiple times because of a complicated issue, and each time the staff was more hlepful and caring about my pet. They are there to lend a helping hand and make your time at the vet easier for you and your pet. Their staff are wonderful, their doctors are wonderful ( I have Dr. Zacharias), and they are of average price. Some meds that I got for my hedgie were between $7-10 and an x-ray for him was $60. I believe a regular appointment is $40ish, and a fecal test was about $17. Good pricing, and they have financing options available, too. They call to check up on your pet about two days after your visit. read more
