Westernmost lower 48 USA bar ...
    RunAway B.

Ferndale, California --- The "Palace Saloon" is another "extreme" bar for "DUSA Tour 2016" ... the "westernmost bar" in the lower 48 states NOT a bar I would recommend ... bartender gave me change for a $10 when I gave him a $20 ... when called him on it his reply was "oh, yeah!" & immediately gave me the $10 he shorted me why is it bartenders (always has been a male) will NEVER give $20 change for a $10? Hmmmm ? lots of dead animals on walls, BUT old bar pics were GREAT! I saw my earliest picture of a bar stool ... 1932 Oh well, next "extreme" bar should be "highest elevated" bar in Alma, Colorado ... "Run-A-Way Bill" was here! 07.08.16

Great bar that will take you back in time to another era. Don't expect any fancy cocktails, but it makes up for it with authenticity

It was a little early for dinner (4:30ish) and aside from two women sitting together, we had the place to ourselves. The vibe is cool. Hardwood floors, huge vintage bar, nice lighting. We were greeted nicely by a server who said we could sit anywhere. He brought us menus and took my husbands drink order, a Manhattan. I hadn't really decided what I wanted yet so I asked for a few minutes. Once the server returned to the bar, he asked me to come let him know what I'd decided to drink because walking around to the tables was "hard". I politely shouted to him over at the bar that I'd like a glass of white wine. He brought my husband's manhattan and spilled nearly half of it on the floor and on our table. No apology or offer to wipe it up, just used his apron to dry his own hands. I asked what a particular sauce was on their steak dish to which he replied, "you know, I'm not even sure". Since he didn't offer to find out, I googled it instead. My husband decided on their fried chicken sandwich and I went with the smash burger. The food was really great. My husband said his chicken sandwich was one of the best he's had. Perfectly fried and seasoned batter, good level of spice. My burger was cooked just like a smash burger should be and the fries were delicious. Despite the strange service (though there was another older lady who was very sweet), we liked the vibe of the place and really thought the food was noteworthy.

Then I wanted/needed another night cap so we ended here ,where there was another party happening!! Quality/Quantity - Simple menu done well. Better if you have been drinking the whole evening as I have been. See menu on website of "Nibbles" offered. Or check out my pictures. See picture of snack table. I noticed many people did NOT know this was available, and ordered their own nibbles(identical type of snacks). I basically ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. And as I walked around taking my Yelp pictures, I noticed the snack table, thank you. Atmosphere - What a huge location. The actual lounge was just okay in size, but they are connected to the historic Eagle House and I did not know where the businesses started or ended. Indoor/outdoor dining. Not sure what event was happening today, but there was a live DJ, snacks, etc. Not sure if it was open to the public...? Or if I crashed another party? Either way, I had a great time. Just checked your website; cut and pasted: "Tropical Vibes Happy Hour with DJ RunDat & DJ Spadafora - Join us for some tropical vibes at Phatsy Klines Parlor Lounge, enjoy some delicious cocktails and tasty treats. DJ RunDat & DJ Spadafora will be playing Afro beats with some Latin & Reggae Vibes sprinkled in the mix. Free all ages event." Service - Crazy busy, but they still did a good job managing the crowd. Price - $12 + generous tip. Owner Comments - Congrats on your success since 2017 and sorry to hear about the closure of your sister restaurant Tavern 1888. I was looking forward to visiting them also.

(Warning to straight white men) This place presents itself…read moreas inclusive, but I've personally heard complaints from two other straight white men who felt stigmatized here. What I experienced was the most humiliating nightlife situation I've ever dealt with, and it's something I'm still affected by when I go out in this small community. I had been going to The Goat on and off for about a year prior with no issues. No other establishment has ever had a problem with me. I'm sober and respectful. One night I was talking to a woman when a very drunk guy came up to me and asked, "Are you spiking drinks tonight?" I honestly thought he was joking and said, "No... what the hell?" To this day I do not know whether this guy was jealous because he wanted to talk to her, or if he genuinely believed something had happened to someone he knows. Either way, he had the wrong guy. He came back even more intoxicated and wanted to fight me. He was with a large friend group and was clearly the most drunk among them. I went to the bartender (Toss) and told him a guy was making serious accusations I did something I didn't do and was trying to fight me, and asked for help. What I didn't expect was a guilty-until-proven-innocent response. I wasn't asked questions or given any chance to explain. I was told there had been "several reports" that night and I was asked to leave, even though the other guy was the one threatening violence. I followed up with ownership/management over the phone the next couple of days. They told me there was no evidence of anything, that I wasn't banned, and to ignore the people involved and just enjoy my nights as long as I wasn't creating issues. I did exactly that. However, The Goat is a very clicky LGBTQ community, and after that night I was clearly socially targeted. Toss would follow me around whenever I showed up. On Sunday, the only unusual thing I did was leave the crowded karaoke room early and later take a nap in my car because I was exhausted from working earlier that day. I didn't even feel safe driving at that point. Then on Tuesday, I showed up and was told I could not come back due to another "cluster of complaints," including something about me being on my phone, which made no sense. I asked them to check the cameras because I didn't do anything wrong. Later that same Tuesday night, I saw Toss at Everett's, intoxicated, telling the owner I should be 86'd, citing these vague "incidents." I was just playing pool. I have no way to defend myself against false claims like this. No one ever complained about me before that first incident. I've spent years in Chico's bar scene with a solid reputation. False accusations are incredibly damaging. I would never spike drinks and wouldn't even know how. I don't think they realize this is bullying and harmful. I did nothing wrong, yet standing up for myself has gotten me nowhere.

There was no Preacher or Jack, but our waiter was very friendly and made sure we got everything we asked for. He came from SoCal like us and moved to Fortuna to escape the crowd. Not only were they juicy, they were smoky, and tasted very healthy. Healthy and tasty don't usually go along. The tri tip was tender though my wife wanted a more crispy bun. The double IPA I got was good too. Bitter is how I like it. My wife got a cider and sweet is how she likes it. Overall 5/5 I'm not sure why people didn't like this spot, but our experience was great. The ambiance was cool, we got our small town vibe and felt the friendly atmosphere of Fortuna.
