The service was lovely, the staff were friendly and easy to chat with, and made great recommendations. I tried the Veg Haggis Pakoras with Mint Sauce and with Mango Chilli- the mango was my fave! For my meal I had the Butter Paneer with Naan. If you're not big on spice, you'll like this one! The naan was very fresh with the perfect mix of crispy and soft. I drank a mango lassi too. The owners are so friendly, so passionate about what they're doing, and they're so attentive to their customers. The restaurant itself is spacious, welcoming, vibrantly decorated, and has a hip vibe. For me, though, the food was a little bit of a miss. I ordered: 1. the Vegan Mix: it came with a mixed veggie, an aubergine, a cauliflower, a mushroom, and a plant-based haggis pakora. The textures were so fun and interesting, but unfortunately they all tasted exactly the same. I was told that they were big pakoras, and a single order of six would be enough for dinner, but I don't think that's true. For reference, they were all the size of maybe golf balls. 2. the Mango Chilli Sauce: it helped add a heat and fruity flavor to everything! 2. the Lentil Coriander Dal: This specific dish came highly recommended by one of the owners, and it was genuinely so delicious! Much spicier than I was expecting (in the best way possible), and as it cooled, it thickened up. I had ordered it with rice, but it came with pitta bread (even though I was charged for the rice), which is a bummer because I think if I could have mixed the rice into the dal and then topped it all with the mango chilli sauce? Ooooh, yes, now THAT'S something! 3. Chips: I don't know... I was expecting thick cut chips, but these were skinny; all in all? fine, but unmemorable, it was just something to snack mindlessly on. I appreciate how clearly labeled the menu is regarding vegan options and spice levels, but I personally think the portions are small and the pakoras underwhelming. I really enjoyed my dinner here during my vacation in Edinburgh. Our waiter and another staff member named Rick were very helpful with any questions we had about the menu, or the restaurant. A fun oasis amongst tons of surrounding restaurants. The chicken and veggie spring rolls are not to be missed as are the selection of sauces. The Lentil Dahl is healthy and memorable and a reason to come back. A perfect place to head to when you have limited time but a huge appetite in Edinburg. Fresh yet served quickly. We were looking for somewhere to go for dinner when we spotted The Pakora Bar. Turns out to have only opened a couple of weeks ago, but this place definitely deserves to be a success. The staff in there were extremely friendly and nice, and explained all their efforts to ensure the food was suitable for vegetarians and people with gluten-intolerance. Despite their best efforts, there was a slight potential issue with cross-contamination, but they happily cooked some fresh pakora and samosas in new oil. The food was delicious, with some terrific sauces. Don't go expecting a restaurant experience, as it's more of a street food café. However, if you like your food fresh, hot and tasty then this is a great location. No alcohol license yet, but they've made an application. read more

Looking for a small evening snack after enjoying cocktails next door, the Pakora Bar had caught my eye since we arrived in Edinburgh and I'd been wanting to try it. Service was excellent! Everyone was friendly and helpful. I couldn't decide between the fish or paneer pakora. Our server suggested we do half and half. I love being able to have that option especially being generally indecisive and always wanting variety! It was the perfect option and the perfect amount of food for us. Each pakora dish also comes with a sauce. Again, our server suggested we try two different ones and he would give us half of a spicy sauce and half yogurt based and we were only charged for one sauce. Both pakoras were fantastic. Especially the fish, it was so flavourful. I highly recommend this place and wish that I could have more time in Edinburgh so I can come back and try more dishes here! read more

Found this place by chance when walking around the area near Princes Street. The Pakora Bar serves fresh Indian food and specializes in an Indian batter used to fry all sorts of ingredients called pakora. We tried the pakora chicken and fish (5 pieces each plate which was a good amount). We also tried the fresh mango sauce and the punjab sauce (both are great choices). Both dishes were very good. The spices were great and the fish was very fresh. The staff was very helpful in explaining the menu and ingredients. All of this for a very affordable price. No frills tasty food. Had haggis and chicken pakora mix which was perfect to share for two. I had the spicy sausage and my partner had their chicken curry. The sauces are amazing as are the spicy onions. Perfect portions. It's a takeaway essentially so no bathroom but would recommend going for food then over to the pub for a drink. Outstanding! I ordered cauliflower pakoras and mixed vegetable samosas to share, plus lentil, carrot and coriander dhal for myself. My husband, who is not really fond of Indian food, raved about his spicy chicken and dhal with rice. He also indulged in some Lind and Lime gin, which is distilled locally.
