Hostile, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable behaviour On 29 January 2026 at 13:06, while collecting a delivery order, a staff member shouted at me inside the restaurant in front of customers, then forced me outside and continued speaking aggressively. I asked a basic clarification question and was treated with open hostility and public humiliation. There was no justification for this behaviour. This was not a misunderstanding -- it was purely unprofessional conduct and abuse of power toward a delivery driver. Using "policy" or "council rules" as an excuse does not justify shouting at someone or treating them with disrespect. This restaurant clearly lacks basic standards of professionalism and respect. Delivery drivers should be extremely cautious, and management urgently needs to address how staff speak to people who are simply doing their job. This experience was unacceptable. read more

What do s not to love! Dressed like poor tourists we entered in. Lovely waiter with precious smile greeted us and seated us right away and we were seated at a very cozy booth. Fabulous Indian food! Excellent and attentive service. Ambiance was less than ideal due to a party of 20 loud millennials packed into the middle of the main dining room, but minus them it would have been wonderfully cozy. I was visiting Scotland for a nice little vacation back in March. I looked for some Indian places to dine at, and I found this fantastic little restaurant. The exterior and Interior are what drew me into this place. I was surprised to be the only Indian guest dining at this establishment as I walked in. Whenever I go to an Indian restaurant, I typically order the Chicken Tikka Masala. Still, the servers convinced me to try the Chicken Karai, which I call the "Spicier Version of Chicken Tikka Masala." So I ordered the dish anyway and tried it, and it was flavorful, but god damn, was it spicy. In addition to my order, I got some garlic naan and raita to ease the chicken's spiciness. My dad ordered the goat biryani with some raita. After I spent 30 minutes finishing up my meal, I left satisfied with the ambition of writing a good review of this place. read more

HORRIBLE service and avoid this place, which we call the "Rusty Rustom", at any cost. If they are busy, they will not allow you to order certain items (in our case, we were not allowed to order mango lassi since their bar was too busy to make such drinks). Details: The waiters and the owner are racist, extremely unprofessional, sexist, and very rude individuals. They do not have any etiquette and treat customers without respect, especially if you are not white. We have noticed that they were treating non white people in a very rude way (we are white, but noticed this significant difference and it was disgusting). The waiters will often touch you and stare at women. My partner felt very uncomfortable when the waiter was talking with her since he looked in a super creepy way. The food is not very well prepared. The bread was burned on the bottom part and was very dry. When we asked to order the pickle tray, the waiter didn't allow us to order it since he said "would not go with our dishes." This was the very first time that a waiter has told us that and we eat at good restaurants all the time. In sum, this place is definitely not a 4+ star restaurant. Was looking for a place for dinner with nothing in mind and stumbled upon this place. Was a bit hesitant due to some negative reviews but decided to try it anyway and we're so happy we did! The food was excellent, the sauces were done perfectly and everything was incredibly flavorful. Only thing that wasn't quite what we were expecting was the garlic naan, which wasn't as garlicky as we expected, but was nonetheless exactly what we needed for the leftover sauce. The main negative reviews had been about the service, but the servers here were so nice, quick, and helpful. All around great. Would definitely go back if we had more time, but unfortunately our days are numbered in Edinburgh. Highly recommend!!! read more

As I ordered Tikka Masala the waiter (Nomi) recommended the Pakistani upgrade, Chicken Karahi...and all I can say is...wow. Truly the best Indian meal I've never had! Some of the best Indian/Pakistani cuisine I've had the pleasure of sampling. Setting is very well kept and beautiful, and the dishes were piping hot and fresh. Started with some crispy, fluffy samosas with a mint sauce that was perfect to kick things off. Got the Bhuna with chicken and garlic naan. The naan was huge, and they give you just the right amount of portion. Had some explosive flavor with tender pieces of chicken, as well. The menu speaks to a focus on their wheelhouse, and that's always the sign of a good restaurant. Definitely stop in if you're in the area or just leaving Haymarket station. read more

Enjoyed a great meal here last night with my wife who is from Pakistani background. Was interested to see what she thought when comparing memories when visiting family back home when she was younger. We were both impressed and loved it all. Nice, cosy decor and great service. Food tasted so fresh and was full of flavour. Great selection of traditional Pakistani dishes with option for the 'traditional' Indian meals loved in the UK. Appeared to be a good mix of Asian customers too which is a good sign of the authenticity of the food. If you like your spices then you won't be disappointed by Rustom. read more

Went here with a group of six on the recommendation of our hotel concierge. Service was extremely attentive, friendly, and gracious. They made several recommendations from the menu, which is pretty extensive. They had all of our familiar dishes, as well as a section of unfamiliar dishes that they described as "more authentic." We ordered several familiar favorites - butter chicken, chicken korma, saag paneer- which were all very nicely prepared. We also tried three of the more authentic dishes which were spicier and exploding with flavor. They said they could adjust the spice of these dishes to our preference, and we chose medium, which was hot, but not outrageous. These dishes were definitely my favorites. We let them know it was my sons birthday, and they brought out a special dessert after our meal, with candles, and played happy birthday over the stereo system. Overall, I was very pleased with Rustom and would not hesitate to return. read more

Been in Rustom Restaurant twice so far. To begin with, its located in an upscale and busy area of Grosnover St. In Edinburgh. Inside the restaurant looks fabulous with luxurious tables and designs. Their Chicken Curry and Bhoona is a Must try! Staffs and manager are caring and attentive. The last time that we visited it was a bit crowded and we had no prior reservation but they seated us quickly. Loved the food and service, would like to recommend this restaurant. read more

This place had been open all of two weeks when I visited in mid-September 2018, but it didn't show at all in the experience. Service was stellar, and the food was way beyond what I expected. If you're in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh, this is well worth a visit. The menu has all the standards, but also has things you don't see on every Pakistani or Indian menu, including the top-notch grilled prawns appetizer, and equally terrific grilled chops, I had when I ate there. The food was good, BUT - First of all, when we got to the restaurant they were busy and didn't have any tables currently available. So, the host told us to just come back in 15-20 minutes without offering to take our name or anything to make sure we received a table when it was ready. So, instead of walking away and likely being told the same thing when coming back, we stuck around and just waited for a table to clear. Next, as we went to order our drinks, the waiter told us we couldn't get the mango lassi (which was the reason we wanted to come to this restaurant) since they were too busy and they were not going to make it. I have never before had a restaurant tell me they couldn't make something on the menu because they were too busy. We even saw the waiters bringing mango lassi to a different table a little while after. So it was disappointing that they told us they weren't making it. After the drink orders, we ordered our meals. All was fine except for one thing. We tried to order a pickle tray as one of our side meals and the waiter told us he would only give us one pickle but not the whole tray (at least that's what we understood - the restaurant was quite loud). So again, we couldn't order something we wanted. When our appetizers came out, they had accidentally switched our order with the table next to us. So then they just switched the plates between the tables even though the other table had had our appetizers for some time. I don't think the other people had touched the food, but still slightly disturbing. For the main meals, we had the chicken korma and chicken sashlik. Both were good. However, we ordered the tandoori roti and rice as side dishes. The roti they gave us was definitely not tandoori - it was plain. Overall, the food was tasty. But, the experience and the service were definitely something that would dissuade me from ever eating here again. read more

Stopped there for an early dinner.. around 4:39 Pm.. our plan was to go across the street to Omar Khyyam but they didn't open until 5:00pm (thank goddess or we wouldn't have discovered this gem). We dined at Rustom this evening. A table was booked for 11 people including a toddler and a child of 7 years. The food was delicious, but I am sorry to say our experience of your service was under par. I am the father of the toddler (2 years old), and she was immediately fascinated by the gold decorations in you restaurant and was carefully touching the area that is golden on the wall. One of your waiters soon came over and told us she couldn't do that because it "could get broken". First of all, I don't see how she would be able to break this, and second, it is stupid to start a toddler's stay at a restaurant by hindering her from the one thing she finds interesting in your place. She was in a difficult mood during our stay, and I know her well and can tell you this was in part because I had to keep telling her not to touch this area. A suggestion: if you are worried about you wall decorations breaking, how about informing me to make sure my toddler is careful with it? She is smart enough to understand how to be careful with things, and I am responsible for her. During our whole stay it felt like the waiters thought our whole group was a problem. We all speak good English (several of us are American citizens), but it felt like they weren't even trying to understand what we were saying. If you struggle to understand you can at least have a positiv attitude! Smile and show that you are willing to figure this out together! At the end of our stay my wife was gathering our things and putting her coat on while I was getting our stroller in the car. Our toddler was tired and calm and was walking about 10 feet away from her and had just rounded a corner. My wife saw she was out of sight and was on her way. A waiter came up and said "she is running around!" with the attitude of "you-need-to-do-something-about-your-child". She was not running, and either way, this is just a rude way of saying it. A suggestion: show that you want to be helpful to a parent, say something like "your child is over here, if you were wondering" and say it with a positive attitude and a smile. There were also many other instances of sighs and worried looks from your waiters toward our table. And they seemed very stressed about our child. You have a kids menu and a high chair in you restaurant. However, I cannot say that you are very kid friendly. At least not from my experience this evening. You should either work with how you treat families and children or scratch the kids menu and through out the high chair. read more
