Great service, reasonable price and portion; great flavor profile. Kebab and nan are delicious. Clean dining areas and restrooms.

Well this has to be the best curry cafe I've yet found in Edinburgh / Scotland…read more As with all such establishments, the decor is functional - you come here for the authenticity of the food. It's always a good sign when a curry cafe has Nihari on the menu, as not everywhere offers this slow cooked dish. I try to be a traditionalist wherever possible though so, having arrived late afternoon, I wasn't going to have what is considered to be a Breakfast / Morning curry. I'll head over next time for the 11:30 opening to try the Nihari - gives me another excuse :-) Today I went for a dish that has become a staple in Pakistani food culture, Haleem. Adapted hundreds of years ago from the original Harisah recipes which were first documented in the Middle East sometime between the year 900 and 1000, Haleem is now prepared and enjoyed in Pakistani family homes and restaurants all over the world. At just a fiver (currently) for Haleem and a hot, buttered Naan, this medium spiced dish is not only very tasty, but is also superb value. Today I had Beef Haleem. It was delicious. The dish is prepared with Beef, Wheat, Barley and Lentils (plus spices) and it is slow cooked to such an extent that the beef completely blends into the other ingredients so the dish becomes a thick sauce "curry". Tearing off a corner of Naan and dipping it in, it tasted fantastic. The Marhaba Kitchen is a proper curry cafe and the owner / chef could not have made me any more welcome. Next visit - Nihari time! :-)

If you love Indian food I would recommend it. Grilled food…read moreis mouth watering here. Having a lust for Biryani, I have tried it in most restaurants in Edinburgh, but when I tried this restaurant I was very satisfied. Grilled chicken is delicious in this place and the best is BYOB. I am a regular customer to this restaurant and still love it.

It's true that every few months I see new faces (assistant waitresses mainly), but the Indian/Pakistani guys seem regular to me. It's considered a busy place, very spacious and the customers' origins vary. Now, about the take away food. I've tried all their Biryani dishes and they're mouth watering!! If you live close by, it's better to grab the food and go home to enjoy it, as the price difference is considerable!! For example lamb biryani and peshwari naan bread for £10! A friend of mine tried a spicy lamb dish and he loved it (he's a curry expert with his friends trying different restaurant almost per month for years in Edinburgh). Their paratha bread is also great - lighter in the stomach compared to the naan bread! It's easy to give them a call and order the food. What I found unexpected is that you will get text promotions on your mobile phone every two months or so and there's no obvious option to unsubscribe. I never opted in, so they seem to take it for granted when you make a phone order, I do believe though if you give them a call they should be able to remove you from the list. Their punctuality is not the best when ordering take away: they don't check always how busy is the kitchen, and they mention fixed time 20 mins or so, but if you show up earlier, your order might be ready. Oh, and they accept card payments for less than £10 without any extra charge. Looking forward to trying more dishes and the thrill of the grill!!!

Quite happy with my visit here! I'm quite curious about the story of the two Mosque Kitchens in the…read moresame vicinity... seems to be a bit of a duel gong on. There is some seating outside but plenty more within. Food came quickly, service was friendly. Prices, as noted in other reviews, are very low... something on the order of £5 for a heaping bowl of rice and chicken. The food was delicious- I was quite hungry and it was gone in minutes. It filled me up completely and I was very satisfied. Embarrassing moment when we found out they are cash only... but they let us duck out to a very near cash machine and come back. Thanks! I'll be back for sure to try some of the other items on the menu.

Taken by my University of Edinburgh student son to this, his favourite place to eat in Edinburgh…read more He compares all other food options to The Mosque Kitchen, and they all fall short. The food was wonderful, and such great value! He told me that I should choose what I thought was best, and by the time I got to the front of the line they would be out of it, and they would apologize, and they would suggest something else wonderful. He was right, that is exactly what happened, I and got a fabulous meal. Friendly staff, great food. A bit hard to find (behind the Mosque on Potterrow, and then around the back of the Aroma Cafe), but well worth the search. Do not expect starched white table cloths, but the staff is super friendly and we loved it. We will certainly be back the next time we are in Edinburgh.
