Above and beyond moments: Paint color choice - After their first day of painting master bedroom/upstairs hallway I was having a touch time visualizing the color we chose to run throughout the entire house. He was very professional when I told him I was unsure. He consulted on alternative colors, brought additional samples he already had, and even ordered a couple samples. I had about 1/2 a day to decide and I did not feel rushed. Gus did a great job communicating the timeline and when it was going to start costing more money. The process ultimately made me feel very confident with our color choice and we are very happy with the results! Scope Change - We added on painting wrought iron railings, the week before starting the job. He was able to accommodate the additional project problem! Unquoted trim work - There was 4 months between quoting and job start. I forgot that we had discussed that I planned to paint the space on our windows between the shutters and the window. (I was in a money saving mindset, I said I will paint the trim/baseboards). I asked him about that section and he reminded me it was not quoted. Gus is great, I had a bid from him from last year that I didn't follow through on because I ended up wanting to wait on painting. Finally bit the bullet this year and knew I was going with him. He is very meticulous, helpful, and ended up getting way too many samples (thank you Gus!) when I started feeling unsure of my main base color. We needed to have the exterior of our home painted. We contacted three painting contractors and received three estimates. We chose Gus and his company, not just based on the estimate, but also based on the thoroughness of his estimate process. We knew that there was some rot in one area. Gus noted that and included that repair in his estimate. He repaired it and painted it beautifully. After we decided on The Painting Specialist, Inc., Gus helped us decide what color to paint our home. He gave us some suggestions and we chose eight colors that we thought we liked. Gus brought samples of each of those colors and painted two boards with each color. To prep the house, Gus and his employee, Chris, power-washed it, removed screens, and even washed the windows! They removed old nails, screws, and hooks. They removed our old satellite dish, broke it up, and put it in our garbage can. They caulked all the cracks in the wood, recaulked around the windows, and repaired the stucco in a few places. After the prep was finished, they sprayed and back-rolled the main color with two coats of elastometric coating. They also painted the roof jacks. Gus worked hard to sand our door so that it would no longer stick in the summer heat and replaced the weather stripping. He hung our door knocker and replaced our doorbell. We have a little table outside our front door that was not included in the estimate, but Gus painted it to match the door. They even hauled our garbage cans out to the street for pickup! Gus and Chris arrived early each morning and worked through some really hot days. Gus kept us updated on each day's progress. These guys are true professionals. I can't say enough good things about this company. After deciding it was time to paint the exterior of our house, Gus was the ONLY choice, after seeing how nice the other houses he'd painted in the neighborhood turned out. Our neighbors house was painted by Gus over 5 years ago, and it still looks fresh. Gus showed up exactly on time to walk the outside of the house, and pointed our some areas on the exterior of our house that would need to be fixed prior to painting. He walked us through the process, and advised he would be providing us a quote shortly. After receiving the quote, I was pleasantly surprised to see what a great deal Gus was giving us, given all the work that was involved. One week prior to the start of the work, Gus came by to talk colors- he took over 2 hours with us, making sure we understood the pros and cons of each color scheme- in fact, after we still hadn't decided on the trim color, Gus said we could proceed with the main house color, after which he'd paint the trim with some of our color candidates, and then let us decide - that made it very easy. The Crew arrived on Friday morning right on time, and spent the whole day pressure washing the exterior of the house, after which they told me they would return the following Monday to begin painting. They returned on time that following Monday, taping off all the windows and doors, and started painting. They continued to paint through the week, completing Friday morning. Gus took the time to replace the door trim on a couple of my doors after he finished painting, and was always concerned with how my wife and I were feeling about the paint color and the job he was doing.
