We had such a wonderful experience at the Oyster Bar restaurant. Everything we ordered tasted incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked, and you can really tell they use high-quality seafood. The oysters were absolutely delicious, and easily some of the best we've had. We also tried dessert, and it tasted homemade, so yummy and the perfect way to finish the meal. The service was just as great as the food. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and they helped us decide what to order, which made the experience even better. It never felt rushed, and the staff really made us feel taken care of. The views here are outstanding. We were lucky enough to sit by the window, which made the whole meal feel extra special. The inside of the restaurant is very cozy, with a fireplace that gives it such a warm and relaxing atmosphere. They also have limited outdoor seating during the warmer months, which I can imagine would be amazing with the view. Great food, beautiful scenery, and such a comfortable vibe. From appetizers to dessert, the food was impeccable. The crab cakes that we ordered were delicious. My husband did think his sole he ordered was bland and dry but my cod with dungeness crab on top (special) was tasty. My only other disappointment was that they do not serve cocktails. Had an amazing dining experience here. Our waitress was accomodating and attentive to our needs. She was knowledgeable about the origins of the seafood in the area and had an excellent recommendation for a wine pairing for our oysters. Attention to detail was impeccable, even with the appropriate cutlery placement. Got some raw oysters that were served with hard cider mignonette that paired very well. The fried oysters were delicious but their sweet potato fries were the best part of the dish!! A must try side. Amazing views of Samish Bay. Fresh oysters right along Chuckanut Drive. For oysters, we had the Totten Inlet & the Royal Miyagi. We also had the Gnocchi and the Halibut Chowder Soup. To compliment my raw oysters, I had a Pale Ale IPA. Unfortunately, our table was super wobbly. The staff is friendly and our server Leah was super nice. This was definitely one of my top food experiences ever. The restaurant's a bit fancy, but the patrons aren't- aka, you don't need to dress up, but there's a ton of silverware. We went on vacation on a Tuesday, so it wasn't very busy. It's also not noisy, it's a nice quiet space to have lunch. The server was also quite nice. The booths are very comfortable. I got the king salmon, which was delicious. A very light taste of balsamic vinegar, and all the flavours combined perfectly. Mushrooms, cedar, and raspberries- I'd have never thought of that! Anyone who wants to avoid "fishy" fish- this is for you. I had it with sweet potato fries, which I always like, and those came with a very nice homemade garlic aioli sauce. Very smooth and not a super strong garlicky taste. My tablemates' food: one had the bouillabaise, and said it was excellent, with a very light broth, and tons of nice seafood. The other had the fried oysters, and thought they were very well prepared. We finished off the afternoon with desserts; my tablemates got dessert wines and we got a slice of cheesecake to share. It was fantastic, as all cheesecake is; this one had a light nutty taste that wasn't overwhelming. This restaurant really made me appreciate fancy restaurants and just how nicely tastes can pair that wouldn't normally be paired in daily foods. read more

This is my son writing the review. The view is one of the best I have ever seen at a restaurant and the vibes are off the charts, the service was pretty good, the appetizers were really quite good, but for the entree I got the burger. Now when I tell you it is genuinely the worst burger I have ever had I am not exaggerating. It tasted old, had chewy slimy pancetta on top and the bun was made of puff pastry that seemed like it had been left out for nearly a week before cookin. anyways the potatoes were good. I will add to my son's review and say that the view was amazing. the service was ok. they threw a plate at us and the waitress did not smile was and was notably short. and that burger was disgusting indeed and many other things were off. everything is oddly sweet - there are raisins in a olive tapenade that was just weird. The seafood salad for $45 dollars had little seafood - agree with others on that assessment. The wine I had tasted like it had been left out for a longtime before it was chilled. 360 dollars for 4 people later we were really dissapointed. read more

Wow, what an amazing experience. Had lunch on Christmas Eve on our way to Bellingham. Everything from the white tablecloth ambience and stunning views to attentive service and outstanding food, there is nothing lacking here! We had a nice two-top by the window and started with a dozen oysters - two each of what they had available. The mignonette was like an apple cider sorbet. Sounds weird but it was the perfect way to highlight the different flavors of the oysters, all of which paired nicely with both the Albarino and Muscadet. We moved onto the beet salad next, which was chock full of delicious roasted beets and fresh spinach. Afterwards, we were then brought an intermezzo of quince sorbet in Cava. Wow, even that was a winner! For the main course we had the Black cod special with chanterelles and a tomato Chardonnay sauce. The fish was super fresh and flaky, and the presentation was gorgeous. It came with a decadent side of goat cheese soufflé. Our server, Leah, was very friendly and provided superb service. We definitely recommend this for a nice occasion meal. The outside of this restaurant is deceiving. I would have never guessed the inside and the quality of food based on the outside look. Instead of "never judge a book by it's cover", it is "never judge a restaurant by the outside". I would consider this spot "fine" dinning based on the quality of food, service, table setting, and the views outside the windows! I do not eat anything from the water. However, I was impressed by the oysters served to my partner. I had the best ravioli dish ever. I was very happy especially eating lunch here after a hike. There are limited restaurants in this area. My husband I and visit The Oyster Bar each year for my birthday. For over 10 years, it has been a wonderful experience. Yesterday's food and service was excellent as always. I believe our servers name was Tristin - she couldn't have been more pleasant, informative, and just the right combination of attentive and mindful of timing. I always order the halibut and it was delish! My husband usually orders steak, but decided on the lingcod special (saying it was one of the best dishes he's had). For a starter, the mushroom tartlet was so yummy and we always order the mixed greens, as well. Too full for dessert, we ordered it to go. The Oyster Bar was the PERFECT place to host our final product promotional dinner. The downstairs private dining room comfortably sat 12 guests. Our servers were exceptionally courteous and very attentive. I couldn't agree more with previous reviewers on how great both the food and views are. Aside from superb quality both my salad and ravioli were naturally filled with robust flavor and texture. The view was absolutely beautiful and it was stunning to see the oyster farm in the water below. The oysters themselves were locally sourced and delicious. The rest of our meal had some highs and lows - the crab cakes and palate cleanser were especially a hit. However, the souffle, while technically excellent, didn't have much flavor, and the ricotta gnocchi was a letdown overshadowed by too many strongly flavored vegetables. For the price point, we were expecting every element of our meal to be above and beyond. I'll also mention, it's funny to see photos of this restaurant on Yelp, because The Oyster Bar says right when you walk in and again on the menu not to use your phone. This was weirdly a bummer. First time there. This place is great and pricey but worth it. I had their large salad (priced at $45) it had greens. Shredded crab, shrimp,diced mango,sliced hard boiled egg, cherry tomatoes and shredded onions plus an out of this world dressing. The best I ever had. A place where you need to stop and savior the Michelin star cuisine. Great ambiance and view over the water, the waiter Cameron was excellent and informative. We had oysters, smoked sable fish with beats goat cheese roasted sun flover seeds and basil ending with sablefish as main dish and mixed salat. The Oyster Bar is a true gem with a breathtaking sunset over Samish bay and really fresh seafood. Highly recommend the oysters (of course..), the crab cake which tasted clean while also full of flavor, the delightfully zingy beet salad, and the toothsome butternut chanterelle soup. Loved the fact that they have a wine preservation system that you can sample by the ounce (please do this with more of your nicer wines!), and the 1994 Vintage Dow's Port wine we tasted with our dessert was superb. A few suggestions for the restaurant that prevented a five star review: - Wine list is overpriced. Rule of thumb in my experience is to charge guests 2x when they purchase a bottle, and here it seemed to be closer to 3x. We spent $67 on a mediocre Willamette Pinot Noir that can be purchased for $26 and left us disappointed. I observed the same with several other wines on the menu that I am very familiar with. A sommelier for this level of wine list would have been appreciated as well. - Please don't allow 4 dishes to be served at once, especially at this level of establishment. We had to strategically go through our dishes and were left eating cold soup. - Palate cleanser was wonderful in theory but poorly executed, with a completely frozen, excessively sweet sorbet making the cava taste bland in comparison. - The salmon was good, but slightly overcooked and served with plain mashed potatoes and a few garnishes, which did not feel like it warranted the $55 we spent. I would like to return, but not anytime soon given the price and will be more careful about what I order. read more

Easily missed, but not to be missed. You are driving North on Chuckanut Drive , enjoying the scenic byway when suddenly a building appears. Make a quick, but safe stop, and if you miss it, there is a private drive you can turn into to make a U turn. You won't regret it! We started with one each of the oysters on the half shell. Their descriptions were perfectly apt for the 4 varieties we had (see the oyster menu I posted. The special of the day was a cedar planked Sable Fish, and that was perfectly cooked and flavored. An exquisite location on Chuckanut Drive! Overlooking Bellingham Bay and beautifully pastel colored sunsets. The oyster selection is wonderful and not to be missed. The tasting notes on the oyster menu are spot on - unlike fine wine where, admittedly, I have a harder time to detect all of the claimed aromas. I also had house cured salmon, local spot prawns, and a creme brulee. While the oysters deserve a full 5 stats, the salmon on crostini seemed a bit dry, and the local shrimp a bit too bland in flavor for that $50 price tag. Service was stellar; I would certainly come back to try more dishes and admire the view. read more

Found this unexpected gem after a hike in the area. They had a large variety of tasty fresh oysters from which to choose, a good-sized lunch menu, and nice wines as well. The oysters came with a hard cider mignonette that I could honestly consume a bucket of. What a great complement to the oysters! My companion had the asparagus soup and that was really good. We both opted for the beer battered halibut that came with a garlic aioli, tartar sauce, and (for me), sweet potato fries. I washed all of that yummy food down with a glass of syrah that I liked so much I bought a couple bottles from a store the next week. The staff at this restaurant were all very friendly and helpful. The views from the dining room were absolutely stunning. We were fortunate enough to sit right next to the window where it could best be admired. I highly recommend a visit to The Oyster Bar if you find yourself in Northwestern WA. I'll definitely be going back. read more

My boyfriend and I went to The Oyster Bar to celebrate my birthday in June. I had read good reviews and wanted to try something different (we've hit most of the Seattle spots). The dining experience was wonderful. We sat outside with a gorgeous view of the water and some of the oyster beds of a nearby oyster farm. Our server was incredible and made the best recommendations--including a white wine (I'm a red drinker). The oysters are phenomenal. My boyfriend had Elk--which was delicious and uniquely prepared. I have dined at The Oyster Bar for many, many years. I considered it one of the top restaurants in the area. However my last two visits have been increasingly disappointing. Last night three of us ordered the smoked halibut chowder. This dish has always been one of our group's "must-have" items. This "chowder" looked and tasted like vegetable soup. There was no discernable smoke taste and I did not see any halibut. My fried oyster plate had five very heavily breaded oysters that were overly-fried. The breading approached tastelessness. Two dissappointments in a row. I am not opposed to paying top dollar for fine food. This night's food, however, was priced at more than top dollar and was less than fine food. The prices have been raised to a point, that for the first time, I felt like I was being gouged. And finally, a situation that I always forget and then am terribly let down when I realize again.... there is no hard liquor served here. When I am dining out at this level, I want and expect to enjoy an entire experience. Its not the end of the world, but I would like to relax with friends and enjoy a cocktail or two before a fine meal. Every time I come here, this irritates just a little bit more. I sincerely hope this trend does not continue. My enthusiasm for this previously highly-praised restaurant has begun to wane. read more

The Oyster Bar may be one of my favorite restaurants and showcases what PNW cuisine really can be. Of course, you should come here for the oysters. Depending on the variety you choose, you may pay anywhere from $3.50 to $5 per oyster, but the quality and freshness is very apparent. Of course, The Oyster Bar offers local varieties that are grown practically right outside the restaurant window. With the oysters, they also offer a fantastic mignonette and lemon. Appetizer-wise, I chose the special for the day (which I literally got the last of). A seared Ahi tuna with olives, cooked absolutely perfectly and served with flavorful microgreens, it may been one of my favorite preparations of seared tuna I've ever had. For dinner, I also chose one of the specials: a hearty stew composed of venison, filet mignon, and several other varieties of meats. The stew itself was good, but what really elevated it was an incredible smoked bread pudding(?) that served as the base for the stew. A bite of that with the meat and vegetables made this one of the best stews I've had. It may be a little out of the way and the road can be a bit scary to drive at night, but it's well worth the journey. The Oyster Bar is absolutely worth visiting if you want a great high-end date spot in the Bellingham area. read more
