I ordered the American Breakfast which comes with your choice of eggs, your choice of meat, potatoes and your choice of bread for $17.45. I tore this place up. Left nothing behind. It's a simple breakfast, but it was really delicious. The service here was really amazing. From management down to our server. Each staff member was nice and had a sense of humor. It was awesome. The omelettes my friends chose were insanely huge. Like two omelettes slapped on top of each other. Perfect for the price. You will leave full. The vibe of the place was extremely busy, and the service recieved was well above and beyond. I did not have the opportunity to try the Dutch baby, only because it takes 20 min to prepare at a 18 dollar cost. A little pricey. Absolute Worst Breakfast Experience Dirty & Terribly Prepared Food Do not waste your time or money here. The hygiene standards and food quality at this location are completely unacceptable. When we sat down, our table was filthy and covered in a layer of gross black dust. We had to ask the staff to clean it, and even then, it took multiple wipes just to get off the surface grime. To make matters worse, the seats were so dirty that my wife walked out with noticeable stains on her pants just from sitting down for a meal.  As for the food, it was equally disappointing. I ordered the French toast, and it was barely cooked--it had zero of the signature golden-brown char you expect from French toast, feeling rubbery, undertoasted, and tough to cut into. Between the complete lack of cleanliness and the terrible food quality, this was a horrid experience from start to finish. We will definitely not be returning. read more

I complained about the failed set of pancakes they brought out and the manager correctly added a couple extras while being kind and agreeable, unlike her wait staff w/ 'tude. If you know me, you'd know I can't stand eating breakfast out, but today I decided I would take my daughter and wife to enjoy the Pancake House... only we decided to go to Encinitas because of proximity to our house. The pancakes were embarrassingly small and inconsistent, especially for any establishment with that name. The eggs tasted bland and rubbery, but wet, and not in a yolky good way. The bacon was thick, with burnt crumbs and salt on them, not awful... but forgettable. On a positive note, the coffee was good diner coffee for the price. I truly don't understand the hype around The Original Pancake House. Yes, the place was busy, and to be fair the service was good. We were welcomed and seated quickly and the staff was friendly. But the food? Brutally mediocre. The eggs in the Eggs Benedict were so overcooked the yolks might as well have been hard-boiled. They also felt like they were made with absolutely no love. The hollandaise sauce has to be in my top 3 worst I've ever had. And somehow the crepes were thicker than the pancakes... which is impressive in the worst possible way. For a place that charges about twice the price of Denny's, the food was honestly worse. I left genuinely confused about how this place has the reputation it does. Pumpkin pancakes (5 medium) with mini chocolate chips - good! 2. Pumpkin filled crêpes with chopped pecans, expecting one big crepe folded in half like a picture, but it came with two rolled up, with a thin smearing of slightly sweet pumpkin cream cheese filling. delicious, generous size. 3. The Cali Benny, essentially a California version of an eggs, Benedict using avocado instead of spinach, with out the bacon (vegetarian) 4. 2+4 breakfast: two eggs cooked your way & 4 small buttermilk pancakes. I also recommend the seasonal pumpkin coffee, really good. Pleasant experience, a bit noisy for my sensitive ears but that is expected when it's a full house. Easy parking. Recommend. I can understand why they got voted as one of the top places for breakfast in SD county in 2024...based on this experience, I'd normally give it five stars... however, it's not a vegan friendly restaurant with two few vegan options in the protein and main entrée category. It wouldn't be hard for them to add plant base milks in a few more vegan pancake, waffle egg options like other restaurants have in recent years. I come often--it's a tradition with my older parents. We have the pumpkin pancakes in season; the pecan ones otherwise. Super bus today. We asked for syrup hot hot hot but it arrived tepid. I was ready to let it go, but our server Myrka said no, don't settle. She had the kitchen remake it, heat up the syrup and made sure it all went out immediately. She solved the problem perfectly. It was a week day so not crazy busy. Our server was excellent and she had the whole section to herself. 8 tables and kept on top of things. I had the specialty dish "Micheal," which was kind of an eggs benedict but with sausage and a mushroom marsala sauce. Very tasty...it came with 3 small, slightly oily potato pancakes, which I did not expect. I was so full only ate half of it. I have been coming here since I was a baby (literally). My parents and I came back for old time's sake and we couldn't have been more impressed. We were craving nostalgia and it truly brought us back. It's exactly the way we remember it in all the best ways. The best orange juice, hot chocolate (with extra whipped cream), delicious bacon, and of course perfect pancakes (both regular and gluten free!). I'm so glad this restaurant has kept all of its charm while also maintaining great service and food standards - it's something you don't see much anymore. On weekends, they may have a line out the door for how popular they are (and for good reason), and the staff is working tirelessly to make sure customers are greeted quickly at their table.
