Totally cute tiny cafe. Came here for breakfast. Ordered original French toast and side sausage . I ordered the coffee . It's just Folgers or something . Slight coffee flavor. They seem to be geared towards pancakes. Cash only place . Which is odd in 2025, right? Very small town cafe vibe. Very different prices compared to what I saw online , but not outrageous? I guess. The bananas foster French toast seems intriguing? But also seems like , a lot. Something to share, I'm thinking . Sausage was really tasty. Maybe some local brand? French toast was standard. It was good. Syrup was just sugar. Not proper maple syrup, it's not that good. This place is without frills, service is very much take your order, deliver your food and we are done. It's not fancy! Kinda fancy prices, but this is kinda fancy area? 25 dollars with tip. If you are within a short distance of this place- I would say sure, give it a chance . Lunch looks good also.

Excellent food and service. Great selection of French toasts and pancakes as well as Hispanic flare egg dishes! Highly recommended. Cash only.

My husband and I just found this place last week and we've already recommended it to a couple people. The tamale pancakes were a noble try but not sure if they were correctly executed. Other than that everything else was life changing. The chocolate chip pancakes were everything. Fast and friendly service. Loved the simple and homey ambiance.

06/18/20 - After walking just over 5 miles this morning @ The Skokie Lagoon my sis & I decided to grab a bite to eat. She went onto Yelp & found The Original Green Bay Cafe on where else Green Bay Road in a Winnetka. They just re opened up for business about 2 weeks ago and are taking carry outs. They also have a few tables for outdoor dining. My sister & I are both looking to lose weight so we split an order which worked out good. We split a Ruben sandwich, which is not the most healthy, but it is a smaller portion & it proved to be more then enough. The Ruben came w/rippled potato chips (again not too healthy) & a dill pickle. The server was extremely friendly & helpful. The Ruben was pretty tasty. They had a lot of other items on the menu that definitely peaked my interest. I will be back again in the near future.

Flashing back to late August, when we were in the area and hankering for an outdoor brunch... This is a small cafe with several small tables inside and a handful outside. Friendly, attentive service! 4 important tips for you: 1) cash only!!! I can't believe I didn't catch that upon Yelping, so this caught me by surprise when our bill came. To my husband who never carries cash: you're welcome! 2) MUST ORDER the corn cakes! In looking back at the menu, I don't see it, so I don't know if it's only available some of the time, but this dish was savory, cheesy, comforting, and I would order it again in a flash! It got kudos in the Chicago Tribune. It's a stack of 3 or so griddle cakes with corn baked into the batter and comes out piping hot, with cheddar cheese melted on top and served with sour cream and homemade salsa. I'm drooling. It far exceeded my expectations! It was a savory brunch dish I never knew I was missing from my life. 3) Empty your bladder before or after your visit, unless you're ok with a super tiny bathroom! But I get it: when you gotta go, you gotta go! 4) Everything comes out hot and fresh. The sausage comes in patties, which yes, is striking to me. Yum!

CASH ONLY. A friend and I agreed to meetup for a late breakfast on a Sunday. I arrived shortly before 1pm and had no problem finding a table. When I first stepped in, they have a sign that says please wait to be seated. After standing for awhile with no acknowledgement, I asked if I could seat myself. The space is very small and cozy. In fact, I did not realize it at first but the bathroom is behind the counter. There are two menus, the hard copy and the chalk board, both feature a nice mix between traditional and spins. My friend opted for the winter pancakes which featured cranberry and orange zest with powdered sugar on top. I had a bite to see, if you like tart, they are enjoyable. He was torn on whether to go full size or small, 3 or 2 stack, he opted for small 2 stack and was unable to finish as the cakes are as big as your plate. I opted for Ricos tacos, basically chorizo egg corn tortillas with green salsa. They come with home fries. I noticed the home fries side runs approx 3.50 and the sliced avocado side runs 2.50, so I asked if I could sub the avocado because they are tacos after all. I was told no, the only thing I could sub out was two slices of tomato. The food is obviously cooked to order so it is not fast food, be prepared to make conversation or entertain yourself while you wait, not too long. The service was friendly.

Found this gem on Yelp of course, looking for breakfast after a hockey game with my boys. We loved it! We order hot chocolate & warm apple cider. Had the pancakes and a frittata. It was all delish. The place is warm and cozy. FYI cash only.

It wasn't as good as they thought it would be for the price and overall we were underwhelmed by the food drinks at this place because we thought it would be a lot better for what we paid for the back room is cool though highly recommend it maybe next time we come we'll order something else and have a different experience but the food that we ordered at a French restaurant wasn't what we were expecting.

I needed to bribe myself with coffee I didn't make myself and to get out of my house to plow through a bunch of work admin. I took a chance coming here because I know they have some laptop policies, particularly around Christmas. (During the rest of the year it's certain tables that aren't allowed to use laptops and/or certain tables at certain hours). I came in at 7am and it was good motivation for me to knock out a bunch of things efficiently since I have a 9am cutoff lol. They also now put that notice on their front door, which is helpful and was my complaint last year when I came here to do work on a Saturday and found out I couldn't. I've honestly been here more times than I can count. My omnivore friends are always pleasantly surprised once they've been officially introduced to the magic of Spirit Elephant. I've loved watching all of the small changes over the years, and have appreciated that the quality of the food and handcrafted cocktails has never changed. I have raved of the patio in the past, but they've since done two major upgrades, and I love spending weekend afternoons with a group of friends during the warmer months on their patio even more. The tofu in the bao buns was so crispy and delicious that my carnivore friend said tasted just like pork belly. Having never had pork belly, I was happy that to me it tasted like tofu since I love tofu. The poke nachos were a bit spicy for me but flavorful and delicious. Again, my friend thought it really tasted like tuna. My friend wanted to split the steak which I thought wasn't their strongest dish because it tasted more processed and not like lovely tofu nor like meat. But for those who enjoy vegan steaks, it was quite flavorful and moist. The potatoes were so fluffy and crispy. But not my fav of their dishes. As always the manager, Jordan, comes by and makes us feel like VIPs, laughing and treating us like old friends. And the whole team works together smoothly. Overall we enjoyed our experience. The food was phenomenal…read more We came here after spending the day at the Chicago Botanical Gardens and it was a perfect treat. We were all starving after walking around. And the outdoor seating is perfect for kids. The food was LEGIT. I personally love Italian - pizza, pasta, salads. And all so fresh. We started with baked artichoke and the shredded brussle sprout salad. The baked artichoke was damn delicious and we al joked we could eat a few more plates of them. The brussle sprout salad I'd skip next time. It was shredded enough and the brussle sprouts needed to sit in the lemon juice a little longer to loosen up. It was too hard to eat and because some of the pieces weren't shredded enough you couldn't bite into it. The kids both got rigatoni in a red sauce and finished their entire plates. The only thing I wish is that they had a kids menu because if they want a drink to it comes out to $16 a kid ($12 for pasta and $4 for drink). And the kids soda is just as much as the adults soda. But the pasta itself was freshly made and the red sauce was so good I could drink it. And prolly the most frustrating part of the meal was asking if they had bread to be told that they don't except we watched baskets of bread be brought to our tables. When we asked our waiter Jeffrey if they had bread he said no twice and told us they have focaccia. The kids obviously didn't like it. After being lied to we decided to ask someone else who then brought us the free bread ??? So don't get tricked to order focaccia because they do have bread. This was really frustrating to be straight lied to and the focaccia in my mind wasn't worth $12. It needed more oil while being baked because it was dry. But in all my dining experiences I've never been lied to about getting a basket of bread just to get us to buy focaccia. It was so weird. I ordered the tortellini with balsamic and I enjoyed the tortellini themselves but the sauce lacked flavor. It almost needed a mushroom base or something that had more a punch. My husband got the bolognese and really enjoyed it and he is the last person to order pasta out. My best friend got the eggplant lasagne and damn it was good. I forget what her husband got. Then we also ordered pizza for the table and shit it was so good. Next time I'd try the mushroom pizza. We sat outside and the ambiance out there is much more livelier than inside especially if you're traveling with kiddos. They also had a magician who came to our table and really made the night enjoyable for the kids. We plan to head back at some time and have learned our bread lesson lol. Next time we would just ask for another waiter because being lied to is just odd.
