It's hard to put into words, the way I feel about this place, but I'll try…read more We specifically booked this place because of the history. And the cabin in particular that is built upon Chief Ouray's hunting adobe. We absolutely loved the cabin. It was private and primative, but had everything we needed. And to learn that it was built in 1902 was even better. It does have a comfy bedroom, it is not a studio. And a kitchenette with a fridge and a stove, a microwave and mostly fully stocked. A decent shower and lots of heaters with a wood burning stove. We would stay here again in a second. It was neat waking up to the wild turkeys and driving up and down the hill in the ice. The jeep made it really easy. We also booked the sunroom and while I do love staying in the lodge, because of its convenience, we much prefer the cabin. The sun room is almost all windows, and it is literally built on top of the vapor cave with the rock coming through one wall. It's very cozy too, and has a king bed. That part is great! There is no kitchenette in here though, but the front desk clerk was kind enough to help us with some items we needed to make some sandwiches. I'll tell you the most difficult part is this: The entitlement of folks who have no concept of respect. Whether it be berating the staff or talking loudly and obnoxiously while soaking. If someone doesn't know hot springs etiquette, they should learn. It's a place of retreat, rest and relaxation. It's also a sacred native site. It deserves respect. Don't come here if you're looking to be loud and obnoxious. You don't know how many times I watched people walk away from soaking, because of idle drunk gossipy talk... The times where we have been mostly alone, are just epic and I'm truly grateful for that. It has been one of the best weeks just becoming one with nature and the earth, honoring the sacred. There really are no more words except this... For all the negative reviews around social media or online, that's great keep it up. The rest of us would like this little gem kept a secret. Thanks

A giant scam. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!…read more In short, I had a reservation. Mudslides closed the roads to Ouray just prior to my arrival. I confirmed the closed roads with the Colorado Department of Transportation. The hotel still refused to refund my money despite being unable to get there. I offered to change my reservations to 2-3 weeks later since I would return to Colorado. The hotel refused to refund my money. The hotel never provided a name of anyone to discuss. I only could converse via email to a generic hotel email. I am still fighting to get back my $1,000. Hotel doesn't care as long as they have my money. Pathetic. They refused to discuss over phone. Then they sent a generic email asking how my stay was. Insult to injury. DO NOT EVER BOOK THIS HOTEL.

I would Highly recommend them to anyone visiting Ouray. The breakfast was always a morning highlight, and the Wine and Cookies in the evenings were a real treat. The reason for our visit was the world class off-roading. There were many famous Trails in the area, and plenty of local attractions to satisfy most people. The town and surrounding area is absolutely Beautiful! I drove there from Florida, towing my Jeep. It was worth every mile!

We were here over Fourth of July and I want to come back every year now. Our room was just perfect for my husband and I. Parking was easy and the room was clean. They even did a Fourth of July barbecue for all of their guests. What a treat for all of us and the food was delicious! I can't forget the great breakfast, coffee, and wine/cookie happy hour. They had games outside on the grass for everyone to play. The kids staying there really enjoyed those. I even saw guest sitting outside in their chairs, reading books, and enjoying the scenery. It was also a very quick walk to the Main Street in town. Only a block away. This place will hold a place in my heart forever.

Lovely quiet location with friendly staff!…read more We stayed in room #10 for 3 nights. Elizabeth and Conner greeted us when we arrived. They were helpful with information about the manor. No formal check in, the key was in the door of your room for entry. They were outstanding for our entire stay. Breakfast each day was delicious, Elizabeth's stuffed French toast was the best. They asked each day if we had any food limitations which was nice to add or delete ingredients for a breakfast made to order. The last day friendly Laura was the chef for breakfast and did a fabulous job. At 5:00pm they had a happy hour with beer, wine and delicious cookies. We met other couples and visited in the reception area daily each with adventures of the day in Ouray. The location is beautiful and quiet with a short walk to the main street of the town. Parking is perfect right in front of the manor. The outdoor hot tub was the best after daytime hiking. Towels and robes were provided in a basket in the reception area. The hot tub had 7 powerful jets on your back and feet and it was never busy. Room 10 on the second floor at the end of the hallway was spacious with high ceilings and a jetted bathtub. It was nice to have 2 entry doors, one from inside the manor and a 2nd door to enter from the outside to the outdoor hot tub. This was our 1st stay at a B&B in the USA and it was a wonderful experience. The staff at Black Bear Manor made you feel welcomed and at home. Thank you Elizabeth, Conner and Laura!
