Ol' Miner Steakhouse - The Chicken Fried steak and baked potato were absolutely wonderful for my lady friend! She shared it and both ladies were satisfied!

We were a party of four in there for dinner, one gentleman got the fillet, I got the T-bone steak, the other two people shared a big salad, chucked fried steak, a baked spud and wine We had a very nice bottle of red wine at a fair price (the Malbec!) Everyone was very well pleased with the way the steaks were cooked, the presentation was nice, and the service was absolutely great by a gal named "Max" (which we figured was short for Maxine). Max absolutely loves her job, and it was obvious! She took great care of us! We were treated like long, lost friends, although it was my very first time in the restaurant. I strongly recommend checking this place out in Gunnison, the prices are quite fair for the type of food and the ambience.

Now, I preface this by saying, I've eaten here over the years, but only for dinner while in town on business. Recently there again for business, popped in, sat upstairs for Sunday lunch. Ordered the Caliente Burger with a side of cottage cheese. It was good, but not great. I had grown accustomed to the quality of their steaks and the hamburger patty just wasn't that. Ordered it medium rare and it came out well done. And the patty seemed to have been (but I could be wrong) from a pre-made frozen patty. It just didn't taste like fresh made hamburger meat. Other than that, it's a good place to eat.

I called and spoke to the owner Joe who was friendly and helpful in directing me email his wife and co-owner Shamai. Shamai was quick to respond and excited to help make a reservation for my dad's 70th birthday. Not only did we make the reservation but we added (2) charcuterie plates. When the day came they have a table and chairs set up for us. It was perfect! We were the only ones in there for a little while before a few other couples came in. It felt like we had a private tasting. We had a wonderful time tasting all their wines, asking questions about their process, etc. Joe and Shamai really have something special here and I would definitely recommend visiting!

It is light effervescent, and has a beautiful fruit that underlines the wine. It is made from wrestling, Viognier, a little bit of Chardonnay. Rose Syrah less than 10% Vanier, cold pressing, light hues. The fruit in the pepper beautifully confront the taster with nuances of the Syrah. This actually also goes well with chicken tikka masala, but could be served with beef. Quite versatile. Any type of harshness that would be in red fruit is not at all available. Sauvignon Blanc Quite aromatic florals of Honey Dew Melons, peach, apricot you and a tiny bit of grapefruit... citruses on the palate coming through the acids and through aerating the wine within your palate, you begin to pick up melons. A very approachable, Sauvignon Blanc, that you can drink today pleasurably or put it down, and those acids and fruits are going to integrate beautifully. The cab franc 2020 is over the top excellent in the nose and I haven't even tasted it yet. It picks up beautiful, black fruit and a little bit of alcohol, because the wine is young. On the palate comes across a bigger wine has a touch of black fruit, cigar, and you could put down in your wine cellar for quite a few years. 2021 Mendocino and essentially it was Zinfandel. A beautiful nose of typical Zinfandel dried fruit on the nose, multiple berry species and spices of black peopon the palate. Red blend of beautiful nose of candied acidity and black fruit and pepper. this is another one that can be put down. Make sure you go there if you were ever in Gunnison.

Still we had a good time and Robbie worked hard to make sure we caught fish. This year we got rainbow & brown trout. We did catch a bit of salmon but they were smaller and harder to catch this year. We didn't get our limits but being earlier in the season the snow still melting we understood. We highly recommend this crew when watching to fish Blue Mesa. It is a great time.

I gently suggested this and pretty constantly pointed out the deeper fish, yet he never gave a deeper line a chance. There we clearly not fish at 25' yet he kept most lines from 10-40'. I have no idea why, but we only caught a couple of fish, whereas I'm 100% convinced that we would have caught more and bigger at a lower depth. He said that the owner of the company was good at the large fish. If you can't do it, Ryan, then don't be a guide. Second, when we got back, he took 20+ minutes to load his boat before filleting the fish. He could have just filleted right away but wasted our time. I felt that my $400 was a waste other than some nice time on the Blue Mesa, and my 5 year old was disappointed. Overall a bust of a trip. And, this outfitter asks for a tip up front, which seems silly. I tipped 15% anyway, but I grudgingly did so given the low quality of the trip.
