We had a fine time at the cabins. Owner was super nice... Everything went GREAT. I was worried about bad reviews but went anyway and it could not have been better. Can say enough about how nice it is here. The views are amazing and the owner is the nicest person! We are 'stranded' here due to problems with our motorhome and I can't think of anywhere else we would rather be when we get on the road again and head back to Florida. We have had to play 'pin-ball' with our travels dodging wildfires in Washington, Oregon and California and sure need a place to unwind and relax! We found it here! read more

I don't understand what all the negative reviews are about. I have had SEVERAL interactions with Steve and ALL of them were very polite, and accommodating. The grounds are beautiful & often draw unauthorized visitors, at which point I can imagine Steve may be a bit protective. read more

I am writing this a couple of years late because the experience I had with my family and friends still frustrates me to this day. The owner (Steve) is very rude and disrespectful to the guests that stay at this property. Upon arrival, we were met with a very angry and aggravated host that could not get over the fact that we parked in front of the guest check-in while we were trying to figure where exactly our cabins were located. Fast forward to later that night, my family and friends were playing in the game room and once again Steve became very hostile. He claims that we broke a bottle and trashed his game room which is not the case. Steve asked us to leave, and we politely left. As we were walking towards our cabins Steve became very aggressive and threatened multiple members of our party before following us to our cabin, screaming and shouting at us the whole way. He would not leave us alone and even went as far as pulling out a baton and threatening my family and friends. Please take my families bad experience, and do not waste your time or money staying at the Blue Mesa Outpost. This is one of the worst experiences ever and Steve is a terrible host. PLEASE take my word and do not waste your time or money! He will probably reply to this post and try to blame us for his actions like he does to everyone. Such a great little getaway. Located directly across from blue mesa lake! The little cabins have great views, were super clean and newly redone, the owners were very nice and helpful! DONT try TENTS before JULY!!! I'll give them 2 stars only because the camp was clean and they were friendly. They deserve 0 for being predatory. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. EVERY local we spoke to knew that the winds are too high for tents before July. Did these people warn us, no. This is a high wind area with no trees, winds were so bad (normal for spring) that our tent poles broke. Did they give us any type of refund for the unusable campsite that had not even been weeded? NO. Tourists Beware! Edited to add: I have read the businesses rebuttal and would urge everyone else to as well. Again, just remember that they will rent you a campsite even though they KNOW it's going to be SUPER windy. And FYI, we didn't "use the bathouse", we used the one and only toilet crammed in a musty cabin with an old washer and dryer. We didn't store our stuff on your lot, we had to abandon the campsite after we were bruised, bloody, wet and freezing and without shelter for the night. And lastly, just remember, these people knew we were first time campers, knew it would be high winds (What I have now been told by every local are seasonal conditions for this spot) and both of the tent sites are equally unprotected from winds and still took our money for a reservation. We stayed Labor Day Weekend 2019 at Blue Mesa Outpost in Cabin #4. Very easy to book and when we arrived were greeted by the most friendly people in a very long time. Easy check in, great information, and directions to and about our cabin. Cabin was newly updated and stocked with everything needed for a camping/cabin/hotel stay! Grounds were super clean and organized. We stayed in Cabin #2 about 10 years ago and were very impressed with the new owners and everything else since that time. Excellent Amazing Experience! You all are amazing and we are impressed how you are running your business! Kind, considerate, respectful of everyone, and genuine people. Anyone who leaves negative comments about you all are clearly having a bad life and haven't stayed down the road . Pros: Friendly staff. WiFi is available (although it is kinda slow). Cell service is available here for Verizon. Beautiful view. Very pet friendly. Cons: The water pressure kept shutting off sometimes during a shower. No restaurants or grocery stores within 20miles... so be sure to bring your own food. Overall: Comfortable place for the area. We just stayed for the second time in the cabins at Blue Mesa Outpost. This is one of our favorite spots now. Kelly and Steve are so kind and work hard to provide a great family friendly atmosphere and campground for both glampers like us and campers as well. We have stayed in the cabins both times and really enjoyed ourselves. The cabins aren't super fancy but if you're looking for a clean place to stay (that's also very cute) and lay your head, shower and eat then it's perfect. The outpost is literally right across the road from the lake and a 2 min drive from Lake Fork Marina. read more

His campground. His rules. His unhinged, drug fueled power trip. Don't make the *mistake* we made by booking an online reservation, paying, and parking in our assigned campsite after arriving at night. The campground is hard to find in the dark. And the sites are the first thing you get to while driving in. How rude of us not to walk all the way up the hill to see the poorly lit sign that says we must come to the office first. Our quiet after-hours setup provoked a wildly agitated camp host to rip down the gravel hill in his UTV, skidding to a stop in front of our small camper. We greeted the man - twitching, eyes-bulging, unable to make eye contact, unable to stand still, chewing his own face off - as he yells at us for not signing an insurance form upon arrival. "wH@t Do yOu tH!ńK ThIS izzz?!" I've camped a hundred other times. We were on a long trip this time (25 days), often arriving to our campgrounds after hours, after sane people have closed for the night. Setting up and handling whatever else in the morning was the norm at literally every other campground from California to Tennessee to Ohio and Kansas etc. Public or private. Offices are usually towards the front of the campground. Important signs are usually there as well with lights on them. Rules are usually clearly stated. If a rule is broken, hosts are usually at least civil with you. I've never slept with one eye open like I did that night. At the ready in case I need to protect my family from a raging tweaker. Anyway, clean private restroom. Very friendly young lady at the office. Fairly level pull through site. View of the reservoir. Dog friendly but apparently the leash law isn't as big a deal as the check-in requirement. We saw several large off-leash dogs roaming around from only a two other occupied campsites. My heart goes out to the family who has posted reviews here about their nightmare experience. I read theirs after we had a similar altercation with the male host. BE CAREFUL HERE. I hope our male host can get a detox, rehab and anger management... then address how the unique rules are communicated. read more

We've vacationed here before numerous times with the previous owners whom we loved. Horrible experience with this new owner! Said owner literally picked a fight with the elderly (80+) during our stay. Save your money (and your sanity) and spend your time elsewhere. My Father and my eldest Uncle were unfairly treated (at least), disrespected and semi-accosted. Law enforcement was called (by the owner) and the Sheriffs and Rangers didn't even talk to us. Instead, they waved and nodded as they left as if they've dealt with him many times before. I surmise (from *video evidence*) that this new owner is a liar and is indeed mentally unstable. My take? He is most certainly in the wrong business. There are PLENTY of other camping and cabin spots around BM from which to choose. read more

We stayed here for four days and loved it. Kelly in the front office was super nice. Check in was easy. The place was clean and smelled so fresh upon arrival. We stayed in cabin 6 in the back corner. It felt so private even though there are other cabins around you. There is a good bit of space between. It comes equipped with most everything you may need. A couple of things I would add for guests that are cooking are a baking sheet and a chef's knife for chopping. Don't forget to bring coffee filters and sweetener. The location is right across from the Resevoir and super convenient to Black Canyon of the Gunnison. The area has no services though. It is remote and beautiful, but gas up in Gunnison and purchase any items you may need for your stay. If you want to drive back to Gunnison for dinner it is about a 30 min drive. The view from our cabin was amazing. We had champagne on the deck every night. As an FYI, the water pressure did drop when the toilet was flushed, but goes back to normal when the tank refills. We loved it so much we will be back again. For outdoor enthusiasts don't miss the Dillon Pinnacles hike. We had the perfect little getaway from Denver. P.S. Very Dog Friendly!!! read more

We stayed at Blue Mesa Outpost this July and enjoyed our stay. Camp hosts were kind and informative, and gave us some good recommendations for fishing and swimming areas. Campground was very clean, easy to find, and in a great location. Views of the reservoir were lovely. We rv camped in site 11, which is close to the office and not right next to the other rv sites; we appreciated the privacy as the others looked pretty close together. Only downside: there is only one bathroom for all rv and tent campers. It is a "real" bathroom with lights, running water, shower etc but there was a wait in the morning. Owners said that adding more bathroom facilities was on their short list of renovations, as they are new owners. Hopefully not an issue next summer. Overall good experience! read more

My six brothers, sisters, and many other family members booked at Blue Mesa Outpost for a Family reunion June 24th for a week. Steve, the owner is the most rude, mean, and angry person we have ever met. Steve wouldn't let my 78year brother park in his RV spot. My Brother said well Dam and Steve told my brother to leave. Seriously my brother only said well dam. We all begged and apologized to Steve. Then Steve told us to leave and we are 78years old. As we were packing up our RV Steve called the Sheriff on us. Then part of our family had to stay until the next day due to health reasons and age. We were there only two days and he won't refund any one's money. Steve is a new owner and with his attitude we will never return. Sad that the owners reply with lies. read more

Do not do business with this campground! There are several other places to choose from and by far better customer experience. The host was extremely rude to my wife and to me and beyond unprofessional! We brought a child's bow and arrow set to keep our kids occupied (just to paint the picture a little bit, the arrows were dull on purpose, we had a soft backstop, and the bow itself was weak). The host asked my wife to cease all kid activities with the bow and to put it up. She complied and did not argue. During this time, she was cleaning up our camp living space until our son returned so she would have him put it up. Minutes later (not exaggerating), the host drove by again and was aggravated that the bow and arrows set was not put up. He was extremely rude to my wife and told her to pick it up right away. At this point, I was in my tent resting but could hear everything going on. I immediately stepped out of the tent and told him I would take care of it. He then went off on a rant about how unsafe it was and how he was an ex-police officer and he has seen people killed with far less. I complied with his request and agreed that it was unsafe, but he kept pushing his issue. At no point did I argue that it was unsafe but he kept badgering me to prove his point. Finally, I raised my voice to let him know that I agreed to pick up the child's bow set, then he snapped at me and said that if he was a cop again, he would put me in cuffs for the way I responded to him. Then he went off saying that it was his private property and we are going to get kicked off for endangering the public and his house. At this point I didn't say a word and picked up my son's bow set and did not engage with him again. He then left and never returned to apologize to the way he spoke to me and my wife. Now realize where my son was shooting his bow was at a safe distance from anything because the bow was weak. So we complied anyways to keep peace and maybe the host didn't realize that it was a child's bow. My wife and I have never been treated so horrible by a host. We would have left sooner but it was past midday and it was too late to find anything else. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT DO BUSINESS with this campground! read more
