Beautiful views of lake surrounded by sage covered wide open spaces to the hills June 18th-25th Blue Mesa Recreational ranch is just that. Something for everyone...especially children with a family clubhouse, Game Center including pool, outdoor family equipment. What I appreciated especially is this park has many sites but not jammed together and long for easy parking 2nd vehicle, all the interior roads are paved. It's located just above Colorado's largest water lake or Reservoir...Blue Mesa Reservoir. The views of this lake and the surrounding hills filled with sage make for great viewing as the whole facility is on a slope to the lake but higher--hence the views. Many nicely appointed cabins available although we were in our RV with easy 30/50 amp. water, cable, sewer hookups We're still exploring getting our feet wet. This place is a worn out trailer park. It certainly is no vacation location. It's loaded with thigh high overgrown grass. People that live here for months (or permanently) don't maintain their area. There is more garbage hanging from RV's in the small area than a flea market. We could swear one site was running a child care facility! RV's are packed in here like sardines. There is no internet service anywhere in this "ranch'. Closest town is about 12 miles away and there are more parks closer to town than this one. We couldn't wait to leave and we booked a premium site! We would not return or recommend. No maintenance and bad management has this place messed up. read more

I've stayed at BM for many years in the past but not for the past 8. Nothing has really changed and the camping cottages are very dated. Nothing new in them but the price to stay has gone up. The place I stayed in was the most uncomfortable stay I've had since I was overseas in IRAQ for the military. The whole place was very hot and the AC could not keep up at all. Had to sleep in living room on the couch to even stay slightly cool. I was supposed to stay two nights to take care of some family burial stuff and reminiscence on past family gatherings but was cut short because I could not stay in a hot place and get very little sleep a second night. Requested a refund and was but charged a fee to do that. Stayed in town for less price at Wyndham where there was AC and free breakfast. :) Will most likely not stay at BM again unless in cooler months and there are some much needed upgrades. Was disappointed especially after all the years of staying here with so many fond memories with my parents. read more

Friends were camping here so we stayed in small 1br cabin. Queen bed was ok but felt like frame could colaspe any minute. No shower in cabin but public shower nearby. Very low toilet so would be difficult for elderly. Small tight bathroom with sink and stool. Kitchen wall had stove top, small sink, mini fridge, toaster, drip coffee maker, plates, pans, utensials. This unit had a full bed loft with ladder which i could not climb. Looked very dusty! Unit was dusty and not fresh when we first opened door. A little TLC could add a star. We originally booked 5 days here as part of an offer when we purchased our RV. It is now a Thousand Trails Resort. Upon arrival we were greeted at the gate. The lady was helpful and pleasant. You have to find your own spot which is fine. She offered some suggestions of areas. Unfortunately; the cooler spots down towards the dry creek bed have no sewer clean outs even though a couple of them appeared to. We didn't want to be right on top of people so we choose a spot a little further out thinking it'd be better. Well, unfortunately all night long people were in and out of their RVs and left all their outside lights on. It seems there was little enforcement of their lights out policy. That pretty much ruined our ability to enjoy a gorgeous night sky. We decided to stay two nights and leave to a more mom and pop RV park. The park seems to have a lot of live ins. Spots were a little tight and pretty hot. However; that is part of the landscape. Expect zero cell reception and not great wifi at the clubhouse. I found some pretty crabby staff members that were less than thrilled about my kids being kids. The park is not exactly family friendly but those places are hard to find it seems. The views of the lake were awesome and it was a short ride from town. A highlight was the horseback riding. We did enjoy horse back riding. The horses were healthy and happy. The guide was very nice and patient with the kiddos. If you happen to stay here, I'd recommend that. The going rate was $35 per person for an hour. read more

I would not suggest this place at all. no phone service, no WiFi, grainy cable and that's just to start. some of the old staff friendly but new staff not so much! not able to go to lake with pontoon because of gunnison county. lots of broken branches and leaves everywhere at camp site. Very windy there most of the time! there are other places i would go to before this place. All they want is your money! read more

We have been members here since 2015 and look forward to coming every year. Fishing is great, , the scenery is spectacular as well as the star gazing. The staff is friendly and always accommodating and willing to help you out. There are activities at night if you like to socialize, and indoor pool and hot tub when its too cold for the outdoor one to be open, a family center with video games and movies to watch, mini golf, and playground for the kidos. It is always hard to leave at the end of the season, but definitely something to look forward to in the spring. Making great memories for years to come! read more

Our First Summer- We spent the entire summer at BMRR. Loved every minute and made some life long friends .Looked forward to the ice-cream socials every Sunday.There was always something to do, go horseback riding,jump into one of the swimming pools or go play putt-putt golf. There is no cell reception here! The staff try their best to pass this place off as a nice campground but they fail to warn people that there is no reception before they arrive. I work remotely and NEED some level of connection. If I want to use any data (AT&T/Verizon/orT-Mobile) I have to leave camp and head towards town 20 minutes away. The place is stuck in a cove between 2 mountains. There are 2 clubhouses with Wi-Fi that does work well but it's extremely inconvenient to have to go to either just to send a text or check the weather. On the plus side it's well maintained and near excellent hiking spots. If you don't mind being disconnected from the outside world this place is nice to stay, otherwise I'd say avoid. read more

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE!! We are associate members. Our parents pay quite a premium to allow us to us this facility. We have been here every two years for a family reunion for the last 8 years. Previous to this year every time we visit has turned out magical. Since Thousand trails has taken over Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch the facility has gone from 4+ stars to less than 1 star. Activity center doesn't actually do activities. The main office was closed until 3:30 on a Wednesday. They DO NOT have Pontoon Boats for members as promised per contract. And the straw the broke the camels back. We were here for a week. We realized we forgot some supplies we needed. Like we have done before at KOA and other campgrounds (NOT Thousand Trails) we ordered our supplies via Amazon. Amazon delivered on time via USPS. We had a total of 4 boxes delivered. Thousand Trails office staff charged me $5 per box to get my shipment and me pick it up. I paid a total of $20 to get 4 shipments delivered for supplies I needed. TOP SUGGESTION stay away. Stay anywhere else that will treat you right. I have made up my mind to give my 750+ dollars to someone at a outfit appreciative to take my hard earn dollar. read more

The Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch. What a nice place to enjoy these awesome autumn days. There is something so magical about the slight crispness in the air joining in with the beauty of mother nature as she changes into her fall colors that just makes you want to stay in these moments forever. So easy to let your mind wander back thru the pleasant days of summer that you've just journeyed through. The days spent out on the waters of the Blue Mesa reservoir. The nights spent enjoying your fellow RVer's around the campfires. The endless hiking trails, and ATV routes that bring so much happiness to all the groups heading out to ride. Even the horse back rides just give you such a good feeling. Certainly have an awesome bunch of folks working at this camp, making things run smoothly, and always trying to keep the smiles everywhere you look. The swimming pools, playing areas, and club houses, coupled with the way the staff treats everyone here makes you know that after the winter snows have come and gone, this is the place you will want to land next year. This place is awful. Left early. Dead grass, dusty, rocky camp sites. They said pool was closed due to Covid but in Gunnison a few miles away pools were open. Unable to get reservations for horse back riding so between that and pool being closed nothing for kids to do. Ask about fire ring in out spot and they told us we were welcome to go out and collect rocks to make a fire pit. Absolutely no cell phone service. Unfriendly staff in the office. Terrible hours for store and office, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Nothing to do. read more

The worst RV campground I have ever been to in my entire life. Please save your money and go somewhere else I beg of you. We stayed in a 1 bedroom cabin while my parents had a campsite nearby. Daytime temperatures were easily exceeding 85 degrees during the day even woth the windows open the cabin is excruciatingly hot until about 10 or 11 they only have heat inside the cabins. If it snows which it also did expect your pipes to freeze and there to be no water or power for hours. read more

Very rude manager. Un even site pads. Sewer drains were all up hill. The playground is falling apart and a danger to play on. They offer pontoon boats, but no way to get to the dock without packing up RV. The pontoon boats are in poor shape with ripped upholstery and the dash boards missing. If you Are on a free week visit and question anything, they accuse you of being rude. They claim no WiFi unless you pay, yet when you leave the grounds, mysteriously you receive it again. They charge extra for everything, the kids games, horse back riding, 50amps. WiFi. Placed in a gorgeous location. Has potential, but not worth it. read more

My husband and I stayed in the tent camping area (153), it was perfect. Tall trees, right on a small steam (perfect noise to fall asleep to), and close to the bathrooms but not too close. The bathrooms were great, didn't use the showers but the toilets flushed, had plenty of tp and a working overhead light. Plus they were clean. I think any of the tent camping spots would be great, they all follow the creek. The rv shots are very much in the wide open though. We don't have kids, but lots of kiddo activities. Horrible experience, staff was exceptionally rude! The grass is dead and very few trees to provide adequate shade. I went in for a "free weekend" using one of the packages they used to lure people in to their campground. Four free nights and a pontoon boat, free, as long as you go to a 'presentation' at the conclusion of your stay. The first day we went to check in, everyone was all smiles and happy to see us, we went to our spot and we were met with dead grass and not one tree providing shade within two spots of ours. So we packed up and went 8.8 miles down the street, and PAID for a spot that had green grass and gigantic trees all around. The next day we jumped on the free pontoon boat, it was underpowered with a 50 hp motor pushing along six people on a 20' pontoon, also, the shade canvas was ripped, the stereo head unit was there, but none of the speakers produced any sound, and the guy that checked the boat out to us reminded us, before we departed the dock, that it only starts about 50 percent of the time and how to trouble shoot it on the water, but free is free. We did have some issues with the boat on the water, but nothing we couldn't overcome. On day three we checked out of our paid site and went back to here, the free site, for our 'presentation'. John proceeded to ask us how everything was, so I told him that we hadn't stayed at the campground because of the lack of shade and grass at our site and we went down the road and paid for a site, he balked at us and became extremely passive aggressive. At this point he asked about the pontoon boat, so I told him what had happened, John suddenly became very angry and shouts at us, "when I get something for free I guess appreciate more than you do!" and walked out of the 'presentation' shouting, "this is over!" At this point I went to the front desk and asked to speak to someone about what had just happened when I explained what had just happened to the lady at the front desk, she told me that she, "would have done the same thing if I had attacked her like that too!" I attacked nobody, I was asked how the campground was and how to pontoon boat and I gave an honest answer. I have never been treated so rudely, especially by a business trying to earn repeat business. At this point an older gentleman walked out and took is to the family room where he asked what had happened, I explained to him what had happened, he apologized for how his staff behaved and asked what we would like for him to do. We said we would like to pack up and leave, and bypass the last two free nights at his campground and not be charged for the pontoon boat, he agreed to that and we left. It is an unfortunate situation that this place conducted themselves the way they did, we have just bought something I consider to be a luxury item, an RV, and have budgeted to spend money using it often. We will never be back to this place for a repeat free visit, let alone a paid visit from us. If only everyone could have been as level headed as the last gentleman we spoke with before we left maybe we could have bought in to their package deal. We will spend our money traveling elsewhere. read more

This place is just awful! Avoid camping here. The staff in the office is extremely rude and has different rules for members than it does for new potential members. Not a good way to get more members! We were promised to have sites next to our friends but when we arrived there was no such thing. When we brought it to to the front desk they said it was ok to move to another site so we thought the problem was addressed. So we move our camper to the new site. Then our friends show up and are told they cannot camp next to us. So we go back to the front office and now they say they cannot accommodate such things, yet the guy in front of me at the front office just had gotten the site next to him reserved for family coming in the following day! I brought it up to the blonde older woman behind the desk. She started screaming at me to leave and said it was our fault! Absolute awful customer service. And lots of misleading advertising from WIFI (doesn't work) to free pontoon rides, dinner etc that turned out to all be complete scam. No cell reception. The sites are on top of one another and you get no control of your own schedule. We ended up moving sites for a 3rd time in efforts to be closer to our friends. Then had to suffer through their marketing pitch as if we would ever come back after how we had been treated. If you want transparency, a friendly atmosphere, and to be treated fairly don't camp here!! read more

We stayed at the Blue Mesa RV ranch over Labor Day weekend. She had a great time, and they were very friendly. They had lots of activities for the kids, and grownups alike. Everything from three legged races, to karaoke, to Texas Holdem. Our grandson caught a 4# German brown trout in the pond at the resort. It was good eating! Spaces were clean, some had fire pits, too. Plenty of hookups, and easy to access and park. They have some spaces that are in a wilderness type area, if you don't want to be close to the entrance. There are two clubhouses, and the pools were nice. The great big play area for kids, and lots of craft activities, too. It is so close to the reservoir in the marina. I would recommend this park if you want to relax, have fun with your family, or hit the reservoir. I am sure that we will be back. Can't wait to see the staff and hook the next fish on our lines for dinner. read more

Stay away. I want to be clear up front that I am a previous member of WHR, the company that Blue Mesa Ranch bought out. They cancelled our membership and now have the boldness to add our names to a mailing list looking for future members. The last thing this place should be trying to get is a previous disgruntled member into a room full of possible victims to state very clearly how they do business. When we were members of the camping organization, this was our home park but we only stayed there 2 times. The sites are close, it's a very long walk to the clubhouse and they do nothing to keep others from being overly loud and using gas powered scooters with the small 2 stroke engines from running up/down the roads. If you are indeed interested in joining this park, simply buy a membership someone is trying to dump instead of paying full price from these con artists. read more

We loved staying here. It's remote, but has gorgeous views of the lake. The hosts were sweet, and went out of their way to see that we were settled. The cabin was clean and nice. Loved watching the sun go down from the porch! Would definitely go back! read more

We just love this park. We have a membership and it is well worth it. Fishing is great at blue mesa lake. The rv park has lots to do and wonderful people. We would suggest it to anyone for either RV camping or staying in a cabin. read more

My husband and I stayed here over the Labor Day Weekend. We had a wonderful time, the Staff was great for answering any questions and maintenance was awesome. There was plenty of things to do for both Children and Adults. The best part was taking the horseback riding trail. Charlie, who is the guide, was very informative and knowledgable about the surrounding area and was a pleasure to talk with and joke around with. The area was pleasant and the ranch is pet friendly. I can't wait to go back over the Columbus weekend. If you ever get a chance please visit them. Money well invested. read more

We stayed at Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch July 24 - 29, 2013 because of, what we thought, was a promotional thank you as a result of us buying a trailer last year (2012). When it came time to check out it was our understanding that as a result of this promotion were were to pay for only one night($40) as the promotion only covered four nights. As we were heading to the front office to pay our $40 we were confronted by one of the camp hosts that stopped us and in a confrontational manner informed us that our bill was $460 - OVER HUNDRED DOLLARS MORE THAN WE WERE EXPECTING. She then went on to explain that the reason for the outrageous bill was because we did not attend the "required" tour, a tour NOBODY ever informed us about verbally. Words were exchanged as you can imagine, and finally I stepped in a gave the lady my credit card telling her to simple charge it as I wanted to leave, adding that I would contact my lawyer later as well as submitting to online RVing websites reviews about how I was conned out of $460 at Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch. It was at this point that she held my credit card hostage saying that she wanted to talk to my mother instead. I told her no, and repeated what I said before: "Run my credit card so I can sign it and leave." She once again told me to leave the office, at which point I repeated myself again. When she refused a third time, I considered calling the police but then remembered there is no cell service there. To make a long story short, it looks like law suites will be filled as I am unable to contact anybody at the Blue Mesa RV Ranch (hopefully someone with a cooler head than the lady we talk to) to try and resolve this misunderstanding peacefully. I would like to also add that we begged and pleaded with the lady to let us take this "required" tour that day as there was a class, but our please were met with a cold no. read more
