Love love love this place. So well managed. Everyone is incredibly friendly and well organized. I lost my bracelet a few weeks ago and they were able to find it for me! I owe them so many hardy tips, the bracelet had my great-grandmother's diamond on it. I was utterly shocked when they got it back to me. Thank you so so much to whoever found it. Overall, I can't recommend this place enough. My favorite bar in all of Seattle. They always have something fun going on everyday of the week. I even was a vendor at one of their art markets and had huge success- more than any I've done before. And don't even get me started on how good the food is. My roommates and I visited Octopus Bar on their 9 year anniversary party, and they had glow sticks, black lights and a raffle for SZA tickets (which we did not win, boo). The decor was very thoughtful and nautical-themed, and they had a real aquarium inside as well. The bathrooms were clean and not too crowded. There was a bar area, sitting area, pool table and dance floor. The music was an interesting mix of pop and rock songs, but overall it was good dance/sing-along music. The drinks were not very strong and the shots that we paid for were smaller than normal shot glasses, so I removed a star for that. I usually love going into Octopus and bringing friends here for the first time. The ambiance and decor is cool and on theme, the drinks are tasty, and service is nice. However, this recent Sunday night was very disappointing. The male bartender was incredibly rude all night. I understand that working in food service can be stressful, as myself and my entire group are also in the industry. There were a couple drinks that we tried to order off their menu and was told they could not make it since they were out of the certain alcohol. That is completely fine and understandable, but when we asked what he would recommend he annoyingly rolled his eyes and said "anything else". One of my friends asked if the slushy was available since the machine did not look full (just asking) and was made to feel dumb by the bartender when he said yes like it was a stupid question. All night it felt like we were not welcome and that he did not want to be there. Love this place, sucks that this was the experience. read more

So I decided to try this bar out since the drink menu looked fun & it was down the street from the nail salon I visited. I come in and it's a theme of 'shipwrecked' vs. 'tiki'. The music? Completely killin' it. Newer rap, r&b, neo-soul tunes on (Kendrick, Wale, SZA, Noname, etc.). And not a single song disappointed me while I was there. You can either chill out or party here. This review is during Covid and the capacity was at 50%. I have been back to The Octopus Bar since the reopening. There is a new menu, new drinks and as always taxes are included in price. (Traveling from Oregon this wonderful) The Draft Beer is always delicious after a year and a half of canned beer. The one element that makes The Octopus my Bar away from home is the staff. Judging from the crowd waiting for the new location of the Octopus Bar to open up today, I think they'll have a hit on their hands. This spot on the corner of 45th and Bagley in Wallingford has hosted bars since shortly after prohibition. By 1935 it was the Picture Palace Tavern, then the early 40s to the mid 60s. In either 1964 or 1965 to became the Iron Bull, then very briefly the "Jolley Trolley in the mid 70s, and finally Goldies from the mid 70s until 2010. Later that year it became even more sport bar focused, and reinstituted the Iron Bull name until closing in November 2016. However their loss became our gain when the frisky Octopus Bar, forced to move out of their location just around the old Guild 45th Theater, moved and greatly expanded into the space. The Octopus has 8 or 9 booths outside (which one hopes they'll be able to keep post-COVID), and a few inside spots along the front wall with big open windows that are probably just as COVID-safe. They also have a lot more indoor space right now, which I'm personally not ready to use, but their precautions seem relatively strong. The food menu leans toward familiar comfort foods, and while the cocktail menu leans toward sugary sweet concoctions that are not going to impress more serious drinkers, you can definitely find some satisfactory options. But the big draw, of course, is the vibe and decor. From the pier pilings outside to the almost steampunk nautical decorations inside to the bathroom with sea life decor looking in and Bettie Page images looking out from the inside, it's an adult fun fest. This seems like it could be a really fun place and the bar staff was very friendly and seemed to really want you to have a good time. Unfortunately I just found the music way too loud and I found the song choices all really bad. They also seemed to be out of things which led to a small beer selection. When the music is so very loud you can't carry on a conversation with somebody or communicate with the staff that is way too loud and unsafe for your hearing. She seems to genuinely care about the place and the clientele. She mentioned that she really appreciates the fact that it's a bar women feel comfortable going to. We sat outside on the patio since it was a nice day, but we took multiple trips to the bathroom to take pictures of the bar inside. I've been venturing to try out more vegan/vegetarian options on my food outings, and I am SO glad we went with our choice because the 11" pizza was big enough for both of us to share and it was absolutely delicious and a great combination of flavors. Outdoor is fantastic; indoor is full of mysteries and "eye-spy" type details. The attention to thematic detail through the bar is incredible and a significant upgrade over the prior location (which we also enjoyed, a lot!). The Salty Shack features things like mini corn dogs and chicken strips which match perfectly with our beer and cocktails du jour.
