Fabulous! Loved the views, loved the food, service was terrific. This is a definite must stop in Corolla for dinner. We loved the crab cakes and she crab soup. Other folks in our group enjoyed the shrimp, steaks (perfect char to them!), the ciabatta bread and olive oil appetizer, and the artichoke appetizers. Prices were really low for the quantity of food we received. Drink prices are also really good, especially the specials. We will be back! read more

Went here with my boyfriend while at his beach house in OBX. The food was ok overall, but that's it. No substitutions for the side of starch with my crab cakes (onion rings, fries, or mashed potatoes). I wanted a salad instead, since I was going to be in a bathing suit- so I wanted to pick my battles- crab cake, worthy indulgence, however fries, not really worth it. This was not possible. Ah well. The crab cake was solid. Not awesome but not awful. My boyfriend had the petite filet and crab cake. The steak was good, but I wouldn't recommend getting beef or chicken here...stick to what they are known for- seafood. The reason for the 2 star review and I'm not sure they could control (maybe fly paper, or call an exterminator) is the flies. Huge house flies were everywhere at the outdoor table. At one point there was 3 on my salad and 4 on my cocktail- AT THE SAME TIME! So that REALLY grossed me out. I know they're a waterfront property, but they really should address that, especially for the prices that they are charging. For such a huge lovely complex the restaurant is small and outdated. We arrived at 7 PM on a Saturday evening, we were quickly sat by the hostess. The tables were very close together and there was NO music playing, Every restaurant should have some sort of background music playing for atmosphere. You do have a beautiful Ocean view but it's from a far. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. However the entire staff needs new uniforms, they were literally filthy. I we had the colossal crab meat appetizer which was very very good. We also had the calamari which was very very bad, over cooked and hard. The chowder soup was very good loaded with clams and crab. We went here for our Aunt/Uncle anniversary dinner. NOT the place I would have chosen, but evidently is one of the few places in/around Corolla with an ocean view. The restaurant accommodated our party of 19 on the patio outside. The restaurant is in the Corolla Light resort at the clubhouse overlooking the pool. It is more of a pool view than an ocean view. It was awkward walking in dressed for dinner when there were so many people swimming and playing sports in shorts/bathing suits. You park in the small parking lot and walk through the pool area to go upstairs to the restaurant. Lots of stairs. You could dress really casually (shorts and polo shirt) but some of us dressed up a little because it was a special occasion. The place opens at 5pm. When we were seated, we were greeted by a friendly server who took our drink order. The white sangria w/ berries was pretty good. The guys had Yuengling on tap and it was warm. We had starters of mozzarella sticks, the dip of the day - artichoke and asiago cheese with tortilla chips, and She crab soup. It was all very tasty and fresh. The party had everything from the kids hot dog to filet and crabcake. The filet was cooked just right and the crabcake is one of the best we have eaten. It is mostly crab, very little cake. The grilled tuna was phenomenal. The spicy shrimp was great, although the peel and eat was a little messy. Mom even had the lamb and said it was good. They even had mint jelly, but she had to ask for it. The creme brulee for dessert was delicious and I liked it over the choc mousse. The coffee was pretty tasty too. Overall, we had a delicious dinner and a good server. The location isn't ideal for a high end restaurant, the prices are a bit high We had an $800 bill for 19 people (7 were kids) and most all the adults had 1-2 alcoholic beverages. Hands down the best dinner we had on our trip to OBX. The only issue we had were mosquitoes starting coming in. The view was great (ocean view). It sits within a community, so there is a pool below. But the food was awesome for dinner. One of the best crab cakes I have ever eaten, along with a slab of grilled tuna. (ordered med-rare) Standard sides. Wife had steak, and it was cooked as ordered. We also go the special appetizer, which was some sort of artichoke cheese dip, and was very good. I'd go back anytime, if we lived closer. You want good food, you gotta pay sometimes. First time eating here and it was great all around. The special of the night was an amazing swordfish, the filet mignon was spot on, and kids enjoyed their meals. Server Kelly was fantastic with her recommendations, very personable and timed her visits well. We think the small menu helps the chef turn out great meals, but wish there were more drink options. My wife and I brought two kids here for dinner. Standard kids menu. My wife had the Tempura Mahi Mahi and I had a filet and crab cake. I overheard a snob saying they were from Maryland and that it was pointless to try the crabcakes. I also live in Maryland and would say it was comparable to crabcakes I have had here. The sides are set, we had mashed potatoes and sauteed zucchini. We were satisfied with our meals. They are a little pricey...as we paid $100 including the two kids (I had two beers). I have read complaints about the oceanfront view. Unless you expect them to knock down the sand dune, you aren't going to get much closer to the beach. I could see the waves from our table. Can't speak to the flies, as there was a good breeze blowing when we were there. read more

Our OBX vacation in Carova Beach meant we mostly ate in, but we did plan one outing to Oceanfront Grille for a night out in Corolla Light. Their crab cakes were tasty and plentiful, but I wouldn't say that they impressed me more than other crab cakes I've had. The prices high, the service lukewarm, and the food so-so, I'd come here again on vacation, but it wouldn't be a go-to place if I had to select one. I ordered the grilled swordfish special for the night, which I did enjoy quite a bit. The vegetables and potatoes were good but not particularly standout. The biggest perk for this place is its location, of course, right on the water. Come here on vacation but without expectation that it's going to be a 5-star experience. read more

Pleasantly surprised. I was VERY nervous when we arrived and had to go past the community pool and up some rickety stares to check in for our reservation. Even more nervous when our table wasn't ready and we had to wait 15-20 minutes before being seated on the deck overlooking previously mentioned pool. But when it came time for the food, it was legit. Seriously. Bring the Deep Woods Off... I wanted to like this restaurant. I really did. In fact, when we walked into the Oceanfront Grille, I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful view. Oceanfront view, along with the pool. Keep in mind, this was the best part of this dining experience. We sat down to our table and our waitress asked if we wanted drinks. I asked if they had a full bar; she said yes, so I ordered a Mai-Tai. She said that they couldn't make that for me. Full bar? So I ordered a glass of water. Then came the flies. They came in droves. This place appeared to have outdoor-only seating; I would think that an outdoor grille would have bug-zappers, or citronella, or maybe even fly tape! But no... just flies. Our (cold) artichoke dip and (stale) chip appetizer came out to our table, and was almost immediately flocked by flies. They got worse as our overpriced meals came out to the table. One woman in our party is pregnant, and asked if they could cook the Mahi special well-done. The waitress looked really confused, and said "well, no, because it's flash fried. Maybe we could grill it. But we'd have to grill it for a long time." What ever happened to keeping your guests happy? She ordered the crab cakes instead. Although the crab cakes were good, any redeeming qualities of this place were detracted by the flies swarming. Disgusting. A huge nuisance, not to mention a health hazard. Because we were a party of four adults and three toddlers, they added a gratuity of 20% to our bill. Thanks for bringing the kids' meals out 25 minutes before our meals... what the hell. This place was a little expensive, but it is the only restaurant on the beach in Corolla Light. They have the BEST crab cakes I have ever eaten. Also, their cocktails are delicious and you can take them "to-go" so you can maximize your beach time. Made reservations and was not disappointed in the food, or the service. the waitress was very nice and accommodated us in every way possible. Started off with an appetizer of Brie. Ordered the tuna steak, crab cakes and the tempura fried shrimp meals. Each one was delicious. The shrimp were fried to a golden brown good size shrimp and had good flavor . Tuna cooked rare, and had good pink middle with the dill sauce, which nicely complimented the fish. Finally the crab cake very large lots of crab inside of them and it was definitely filling. It could easily compete with a Maryland crab cake. Green beans were cooked perfectly and had good flavor to them, the mashed potatoes were nice and garlicky but not overbearing. The chocolate tort was more like a chocolate mouse but still I can see if I had too much I would have ended up with a big headache. It was very good. You can figure on spending about $40 per plate or a good meal dessert and a couple alcoholic drinks, but the money was well spent. I will definitely be coming back here again. read more

Last night our group of 6 friends enjoyed a delicious dinner at The Oceanfront Grille in Corolla light. Entrees selected included sesame crusted mahi mahi, Crab cakes, bacon wrapped scallops, and I had shrimp Wellington and grilled tuna. They were served alongside red skin smashed potatoes and green beans. Prices are reasonable based on the quality of the food. I recommend you consider dining here on your next Outer Banks vacation. Unimpressive, to say the least. The name is a misnomer, its on the ocean...but probably a good 300 yards away, over a dune. Its more of a poolside grill. They didnt have enough room inside to seat our party...which was only 7 people, so we sat outside on the deck. They only bring you the main menu, which has entrees between 20 and 30 bucks. We asked if they had the lighter fare menu, because we had seen it on the website. She brought out one. Everyone ordered filets, except me, thinking the pulled pork might be a good choice for a lighter price of 18 bucks....terrible decision. First of all, pulled pork should be made with pork butt....i know food enough to know what they served was a pork loin, and not a good one at that. It was fatty, flavorless, and tasted a bit like plastic for some reason. The bbq sauce they offer is basically kraft sauce, i would think they could whip something original up. The fries were pretty good, crispy. The best part of the meal was the waitress, with her awesome british accent, but even that couldnt save a pretty crappy meal. read more

I took my boyfriend to this establishment for his birthday and I must say I am a bit disappointed. First off, I would like to say that food was very good and our server was most gracious, but that is where the good review starts and ends. I made reservations here for a couple of reasons. One, it was the only place in Corolla to have a waterfront view (more like a poolside view). Two, when places indicate that reservations are encouraged it gives you the impression that it is a little more than just casual. Not the case. And three, the flies were horrible! We spent our entire meal swatting flies away from our food. I don't recall seeing an option for indoor seating besides bar seating, so escaping the flies was not an option. Prices were very high in comparison to the comfort level and low scale ambiance. I would not recommend this place unless you are looking for an expensive meal coming straight from the pool in your bathing suit. read more

Decent restaurant in Corolla Light, but not worth the drive if you are coming from outside of the resort. The dining area is an intimate patio above the resort pool and felt great on a hot evening. Our waitress, Bailey, was excellent. The crabcakes and mahi mahi were delicious, but most of our other dishes were mediocre. We were excited to see that they had key lime pie, but it was served in a ramekin and was more the consistency/ flavor of stale lime mousse. Another member of our party got a brownie to go and it was rock hard. Overall, a decent experience, just not the best food in Corolla. read more

For as expensive as the menu is, I'm going to have expectations. The food was pretty good but worth about $5-10 less per plate. The cocktails weren't good. Obviously the place was poolside but there's some things you don't want to experience from an expensive restaurant: having to go down to the soaking wet pool bathroom, shirtless dudes walking past your table to go to the bar. I've only been once, but there were way too many problems to pass it off as just an isolated bad experience. Starting at top, we walk in for our "reservation" and our waitress is essentially just a bartender who works at the bar. She's kind of busy so we wait. That's fine, but she offers us some drink menus and never comes back to get our drinks. Then we're finally sat down. I noticed that on this relatively pricey menu (almost every entree starting at over $20) that there is nothing vegetarian-friendly. Unless my girlfriend would like to dine on onion ring and french fries. So I decide to test out the kitchen and see if they can create a solution. Our waitress acted completely mystified, as if she'd never been asked for a vegetarian option before. Then she said she'd ask the chef. After disappearing and coming back 10 mins. later to get our order, seeing me reminded her that I was the guy who asked about the vegetarian thing. She's like, "Oh, yeah, I asked and they really don't have anything." Really? So you charge 20-30 bucks a plate and you're telling me your "chef" down there can't whip up a veggie saute or a simple pasta dish. Give me a break. But the hits kept on coming. She then also informed us that they were out of crab cakes. Mind you it's only 8pm. And, by the way, the front of the menu hails this little restaurant as "Crabcake Heaven". I guess we'll just have to take their word for it, cause we were held back from tasting their signature dish. So, I order Blackened Tuna, medium-rare. Two others at the table ordered medium-rare as well. Each and every one of those things came out about as close to well-done as you can get without charring the outside of the fish. It was probably the hardest, driest, most overcooked tuna I've ever eaten. And it was like $21. Awesome. What a deal. The side dish was a joke. I got six green beans. SIX. Not to mention, they were so saturated in butter, you could hardly cut them with a fork. They just bent like rubber and oozed out butter juice. Awful. I'll wrap this lovely review up with the most obnoxious part of the meal. We asked to split the checks up 3 ways and our server acted like we just asked her to explain the theory of relativity. She literally said this: "Well, I can just divide it 3 ways evenly, but if you want me to actually split things up, I don't know, I guess I could, but it would take a really long time." That's when I remember her telling us she's worked there for 4 years. Gee. I wonder if she's ever had anyone ask her to split a check before. This town is full of tourists. Tourists with families. Who vacation together. And don't always just buy each others meals. My advice to this server: LEARN. Or go ask your manager. It's not rocket science...you have a touch screen register. Then after bringing us our 3 checks, evenly split, and as we're trying to pay each other the difference in cash, she has the audacity to say, "And I'll leave the original check here in case you want to split it yourselves." Wow. I thought that was one of the 3 or 4 things I'm paying you to do. It's called service. And you're in the service industry. Get a clue. So, long story short, this place is terribly run, has overpriced food, has a lazy, incompetent chef, and has servers who don't give a crap. This orange-tanned girl was probably too busy thinking about what party she was going to later, and in the meantime, I was the sucker paying $60 for a crappy meal and for my girlfriend to eat artichoke dip and side salad for her "nice dinner". I can't say enough about how awful this experience was. And as a disclaimer, I have over 8 years in the service industry as a busser, server and bartender. This is maybe the worst overall experience I've ever encountered. And again, given their prices, you can see it was a tough pill to swallow. My advice: don't waste your time or money. read more
