Let's start with what is good. This location is very nicely perched on the Ogden River. We dined midday in dead of winter, so it was in the shadow of the mountain. The restaurant is clean, including the bathrooms. The service was a little slow but courteous. What wasn't so good, was the food. To be fair the fried chicken sandwich was tender and fresh but wasn't particularly flavorful. The side salad was fresh and generously portioned. The Bourbon BBQ burger, despite asking for it to be cooked as little as possible, came out super dry. They said they only cook well done but it was a puck. read more

First time since they reopened. So the wife and I stopped by for a bite. Got a nice table in the back inside overlooking. The menu is very good. I went with the Ruben while my wife had o e of their large burgers. Food was very good neither of us could finish our lunch. I had fries and the wife had onion rings so we both got to try each. Service was a little lacking and we had to go track someone down to get our check so we could leave. Only complaint. And yes they still serve Farr's ice cream so we had a cup to go. The oaks is an awesome spot to stop on a drive through the canyon. I brought my two kids and we sat where we could see the river running even when it was colder outside (through the window). Can't wait to eat here in the spring time when it's warmer and we can sit outside right next to the river. The kids loved their food and of course ended with some Farr ice cream. read more

Love this place!! We sat outside and was amazing, listening to the water pass by. Food was on point. Got an appetizer of cheese curds and fried jalapeños, and bought another order of the cheese curds!! I got the oak burger, and the portion was amazing and ended up taking half of it home. This restaurant has turned it around with new ownership. Thought I wouldn't come back after the first few tries, but with their location on the river we gave it another whirl. Pleasantly surprised the menu had more to offer than just hamburgers and features daily specials. I enjoyed a meatloaf dinner with all the fixings. It was flavorful and enjoyable to eat. Service was good. It's always fun to top off your meal with the local ice cream located at the front of the restaurant. You really can't beat the location on a hot summer evening. read more

We sat outside at first but the sun was beating down and we couldn't touch the table it was so hot I asked if they had a umbrella but no they didn't so we went inside banished to the back room. Service was very poor considering no once did anyone check on us. The sodas were lukewarm my husband got an Oaks burger it was pretty good but came to him wrong he asked for no onions but he got onions. I had the Halibut sandwich and it was so processed and tasted the same no flavor except for mush. In fact we didn't even see a waitress until we had waited over 20 minutes and she randomly showed up to help the table that had been sat just 2 minutes. 20 plus minutes to see anyone is ridiculous probably would've taken another 40 to even get food. I will start by saying that the rating would have been five stars if I was able to sit on the river, but they are currently fixing the construction on the outdoor tables to be open and going strong for the holidays and that is a great thing. The weather was amazing today for a drive to stop and have some really great food. I was too late for breakfast, but the food did not disappoint in any way. I have to give a shout out to an amazing waitress that was also being hostess and doing well, Halie. Thank you again so much for everything and the ice cream you can't go wrong with me personally I chose the butter pecan and then relax in the shade and eat before traveling home. Everything about The Oaks, the vibe, the birds chirping, the sound of the river running as you are enjoying phenomenal food and great company... It just doesn't get better than this. Please see for yourself. I've been coming here since I was a little girl. I would have anyway but I knew the previous owners who did an amazing job of continuing and building this place to be what it is today and have the reputation it is. The new ownership has done a phenomenal job with the place and I love the staff. They've done some remodeling and it still has the same cozy vibe. Don't forget you can get your Farr's Ice Cream here! The New Oaks occupies an exceptional location along Highway 39 through the canyon, with river views and a deck that should make it a standout destination. After a much-anticipated opening more than five years in the making, expectations were understandably high. Unfortunately, the experience does not yet live up to the setting. The operation feels disorganized, particularly in the kitchen. The menu itself is common and uncreative, and the food execution compounds the problem. Several dishes were overcooked and over-seasoned, with some items appearing to be prepared from frozen. For a straightforward menu, the results were surprisingly poor, suggesting a lack of professional culinary leadership. The absence of a chef--or even a knowledgeable food consultant--is evident. Front-of-house staff deserve acknowledgment. The waitresses were polite, attentive, and clearly doing their best within a loosely managed system. House management overall feels unstructured, which likely contributes to the inconsistency and confusion. It's disappointing to see such a beautiful space--with its deck and river views--fall short of its potential. With stronger management and proper kitchen leadership, this restaurant could become a worthy stop in the canyon. I'm hopeful meaningful improvements will be made over the coming months. The location alone deserves better--fingers crossed. read more

We've been wanting to try The Oaks since they reopened and finally got the chance. Here for a late lunch and while they were short staffed, it was obvious they were doing everything possible to make sure customers were taken care of. We had wanted to sit outside, but there were no tables available in the shade and no umbrellas on the tables so we quickly realized it would get unpleasant outside in the sun. The server brought our drinks out quickly and took our orders with a smile. We had the mushroom Swiss burger which was a good size, very filling, and tasted great with fresh lettuce, tomato, & onion on the side as well as fries. We had wanted to try the ice cream but were too full after the burgers so next time we'll know to save room. Hopefully they'll get more staff up & running and get some more shade for outdoor seating. read more

The restaurant looks run down and dirty. Our whole party felt the prices were a little on the high side but is in the middle of the canyon so it something we expected. My son and I ordered the "Crispy Chicken Sandwich". When it was brought out it had a nice looking bun, fresh tomatoes, onion and lettuce. All good so far, until you lift the bun a realize, you just paid $20 for a processed, Tyson like chicken patty from Walmart that is half the size of the bun. It was nothing short of disgusting. The service was very slow. After the waitress asked if we needed any boxes for all our uneaten food, which we declined, I'm sure she took a 15 minute break before bringing the check. We knew going in that it was Mother's Day and busy. The restaurant warned us there would be a wait, and we were totally fine with that. What we weren't prepared for was complete chaos and zero service. We arrived at 10:30 and stood at the counter awkwardly while two employees looked at us. Eventually we were handed 7 menus and told to find our own table outside. We came prepared. We collected everyone's orders ahead of time so we could make things easier on staff. Except nobody came to take our order. I finally had to go hunt someone down, only for her to say she was "just coming over" before starting at the opposite side of the restaurant. We ordered breakfast before 11. Then we waited. And waited. At one point someone came by asking what drinks we ordered. "Water," we said. She returned with ONE water and SEVEN straws, proudly announcing she'd be right back with the rest. Reader, she was not right back. After over an hour, another employee appeared with "bad news": they didn't know whether we had ordered breakfast or lunch, our food still wasn't ready, but "don't worry, you're getting a discount." Cool. Could we also maybe get water? Spoiler: no. After an hour and a half, we left having received: * one water * seven straws * zero food If you know you can't handle Mother's Day crowds, maybe let your patrons know beforehand. This wasn't a wait issue. It was a management issue. read more

We were excited to try this restaurant in the canyon. The setting is beautiful but we were very disappointed with how run down and dirty the place was. Tables on the patio were filthy and broken and needed to be painted. Food took a long time to arrive. We ordered a ceaser salad and hamburger. The salad was just a bunch of bagged shredded lettuce topped with a little cheese. We also noticed that when we ordered the inside of the restaurant smelled like gas. The kitchen looked disorganized . This place has potential to be a beautiful place due to its location. But sadly failed all expectations. read more

We didn't actually eat, so I'm not sure what the food is like. We were seated, at a table with enough seating for 3 people but there was 4 of us. I had to find my own chair from another table for the fourth. We waited for 16 minutes, no further acknowledgement from any staff. No drinks or food order so we left. They weren't busy and appeared to have plenty of staff around doing other things and visiting with each other. Prices did seem to be on the upper limit of what I would pay for a diner-style establishment. The tables were a little dirty as well with baked on sauce and sticky soda. Highly disappointed with our experience and will never return. Was very excited to go with our family of 12 this morning for a birthday brunch. We were seated fast, the waitress brought water and then NEVER returned. After waiting for 35 mins we tried to go figure out what the hold up was and politely request a different server. Not one person upfront. We then decided it was best to just leave, not ruin the family birthday, and NOT SUPPORT a business like that. As we packed up the hostess rudely said they were letting us get closer to order lunch which BTW we never requested AND the server NEVER even took our drink order. 35+ mins and not even a coffee or drink was offered. When I heard that the oaks was reopened i jumped for joy. I have spent many memories stopping at the oaks to eat with my family. I was so excited to drive up beautiful Ogden Canyon and stop at one of my favorite places. I was very disappointed. Food was not great, menu was basic, we were put in a corner of the restaurant that had hospital lighting, I was looking forward to seeing and feeling the magic of the Oaks again. I am not sure if I will be going back. If you are looking for mediocre food, topped with a can of Diet Coke this is your place! Should give it one star but couldn't due to my past memories I have at this place. read more

This was SO GOOD!!! My friend and I got the Chicken Pesto sandwich and the Ogden Canyon Sunrise sandwich. They were both DELICIOUS!! They came with fries and they were seasoned so well! Their dr. Pepper is also delicious and the perfect ratio! We also got some ice cream and that was the perfect way to top off that meal! We waited forever for our food, & when we finally did get it, they forgot half of it & what we did get was cold. There was no point in saying anything, because our server, Stella, I believe, did not check on us one single time. I could understand if it was busy, but there were only 2 other tables of people in the entire place. NEVER AGAIN!! My advice is DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS PLACE. When we first arrived for dinner the host greeted us in a delightful manner. However, when the main servers there noticed we were latinx and had a party of 5 they didn't want to take our table to serve it. It was a bit awkward and we almost walked out. The server looked like latinx herself, I should've got her name to put her name on here. However, we somewhat ignored it as they figured out who would be our server. The table they sat us at was the front part of the restaurant next to the kitchen door which was a bit weird as we kept hearing the people go in and out of the kitchen. The only positive was the actual server we got was really nice and on top of it. She didn't get bothered when we asked for anything and brought it happily. She really was the one who turned the evening and experience around. I didn't get her name but she had an orange shirt with Eden written on it. Overall the food was average for the price. read more
