I am usually a lululemon kind of girl but once in a while I'll stray over to other brands for a visit. I was in Berkeley earlier this week and had been wanting to stop by here for a while. The last time I came was on a weekend about 2 years ago and it was super packed. On a weekday afternoon however, it was so nice--almost no lines! I started in the back at their sample sale, everything was thrown into a box and a bit disorganized. I went to try on a jacket and saw a "go back" rack that had a few cute pullovers and fleece jackets. I love the look of their pullovers but I find the material a bit scratchy and uncomfortable against bare skin. If you layer under that's fine but I like to wear my pullovers just over a tank or by itself. I LOVE their fleece! I tried on several fleece jackets and wanted to buy all of them. They were all reasonally priced too at 40% off outlet price which was around $30-50 per jacket. The store employees were friendly and helpful. One employee named Derek (which I later found out was the manager) was very warm, knowledgeable and suggested a great wind-proof fleece for my hiking needs. Unfortunately, they only had xs or l/xl left. I usually prefer a small in North Face clothing so I can layer underneath. Oh well, I'm sure other great items will be coming in soon! I happily left with my 2 pretty fleece jackets: one in purple and one in pink. My sweetie was so patient while I tried on both a million times and finally he convinced me to get both:) They had a great 60 day return policy but be aware that there is no warranty on their items like the regular North Face stuff. I love this place and how conveniently located it is near Berkeley's 4th street shopping area. Highly suggest coming by here if you are looking for quality athletic gear at a discounted price. Tip? Come on the weekdays to avoid a long line at the cash registers. read more

I've been here about 3 times now, with some 2-3 years in between every visit. My most recent visit was during the start of their huge sample sale that started in September. Upon entering the sample sale side, I was greeted by a cluster of items filling boxes and every visible rack on the wall. Jackets lined the walls and racks and were priced from $60-$200, assorted shirts/hats/shorts/sweaters/pants varied between ~$5-$35 in the boxes, and backpacks and shoes were set up to the left of the store (didn't check the price, sorry!). The selection of jackets were awesome, they had windbreakers, fleece jackets, thick snowboarding jackets...and so on. The only downside to this is that 99% of this stock is in size medium, which I mean, is great if you're a size medium. My dad and sister had a field day here. However, for a size large, like myself, you're kinda stuck in between trying all the women's mediums and hoping that an off sized one will fit you OR sucking it up and just getting a gender neutral color from the men's medium and figuring that that'll do. I was eyeing this gray/pink windbreaker for breast cancer awareness that I had scooped up from the rack, but alas, the medium failed me. Feeling defeated by the women's mediums, I ended up grabbing a men's medium windbreaker in navy blue so as to not make the trip a total waste. Plus, for $60 who's really gonna turn down a North Face windbreaker?? Not me! Upon paying at the register, I was given a 10% off (maybe 20%..not tooooo sure) coupon to use at the North Face store next door. Instinctively, my first thought was 'pfft, why would I even buy stuff next door when there's a sample sale going right here?' but after awhile I figured I'd just take a little peep while my parents checked out their items. To my surprise, they had a full size run of most everything displayed in store AND still at deeply discounted prices! And to top if off, I could still stack the coupon I got from the sample sale, score! I ended up getting a gray windbreaker pretty similar to the one I had wanted from the sample sale, in my size, and for $10 less than what the windbreakers in the sample sale were going for. Moral of the story is if you're a size medium, by all means check out the sample sale side! However, if you're any other size, please do check out the other side/store! You might just find exactly what you were looking for and for a better price too! read more

I love it here. It's definitely hit-or-miss as the sizes are kind of random and you never really know what will be in stock. But, you just can't beat the quality and prices. Be patient when you come - especially if you are coming on a weekend, it can get pretty crowded and the lines are long for dressing rooms. Small parking lot but plenty of street parking available. Also, the return policy is great - if you bring the item back (to any NF store, not just the outlet) within 60 days, you can get your money back. Don't forget your receipt! read more

I usually love visiting this store because they have the best deals. Last Friday I went in for their Black Friday sale. I was at the store for about half an hour with friend and while we browsed the store the associates kept coming up to try to help us. They asked around 7 times (not an exaggeration) and would not leave us alone. I have a feeling they get commission for helping people on the floor, but the customer service became unbearable. I'm stil not convinced that this place has outlet pricing. I followed my brother into this place over the Christmas holiday. The SALE sign definitely attracted my eye and made my heart beat fast. Although there were bustles of people on the floor and long lines at the register, I couldn't find a single deal. I found a couple beautiful pieces, but the prices were still exorbitant. I didn't consider it "outlet pricing" at all. (Especially during the holiday sale). Also, anything bought at the outlet, the warranty doesn't apply. I'd much rather pay a little extra at other stores, like REI or a sporting store and knowing the product has a warranty. With a big ticket item purchase, I like peace of mind in the case that I need to exchange or have something fixed. read more

OUTLETS ARE ALWAYS HIT OR MISS (3 stars) ONE of my favorite outdoor gear brands. If you from the Pacific Northwest, you defiantely own something of this brand. - Prices, depends what your buying - Service, typical I like to wear North Face when I go snowboarding. I come here pretty often (winter, summer, spring) and anytime I am in the Berkeley area (which is very rare). One thing you have to know about outlets, they are a hit or miss. And the average size you see on stock is medium. I on the other hand is a small/extra small. There are times where I've actually got some good stuff and there are times i've walked out empty handed. To be honest, majority of the time I leave empty handed. I've even came here when it was a sample sale. Again, sizes are too large for me but they do have some great buys for those who are a size Medium (men/women). Funny to say, one of the best items I bought from here were slippers. The North Face slippers which have traveled with me to out of the country and have been nothing but quality. LOVE IT! But I bounce back from this outlet and The Sports Basement to find some goods. Found the NFO on Yelp and decided to check them out to see if they had any hoodies. As soon as you walk in the door there are signs everywhere that are marked an additional 30 - 40% off marked price, which seems like a good deal. The main thing to be aware of is that the selection isn't that great if your looking for small or x-small sizes in jackets or coats. I was lucky to find 1 grey rain jacket in a small and that's about it. I got it for a total of $45, which was an okay price. The sales people were helpful and cashiers were friendly but the female greeter/ parking lot "police" was a sour puss my entering in and out of the store. Anywho, I would come here again when they have fresh stock to look through. All in all you'll get a heck of a better deal here than REI. read more

It's been awhile since I've been here so I thought I would checked them out while I was in town. Needless to say I was not disappointed. The store was clean and all the employees wore their mask and everyone was doing their part with the disinfectant and social distancing. Vanna was the the sales rep that helped me out. She was very knowledgeable of the products and made recommendations accordingly. She was very understanding and patient with me. The icing on the cake was when I checked out. Juan the conscientious cashier realized that one of the jacket that I bought, was the wrong price when it rang up, he took out his trusty calculator and he adjusted the price accordingly. It was a $46 difference. Most cashier would have just rang it up and bagged the sales and the unsuspecting customer would have paid for it. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE ALL THE WAY AROUND!!!! read more

This is where I get all my northface stuff. It really is hit or miss and try to make it out when they have sample sales at the end of the seasons. I've gotten all my fleece around $50-60 (WHAT A DEAL!). There's actually a sale going on now. I just went yesterday and almost everything is an additional 30% off. I do get tired of crowds so be prepared to tackle the people bumping you, snatching things, and lines. Of course if you're worried about life time warranties, don't buy it here, as the warranty doesn't apply if you buy it at the outlet. Sports Basement would probably be an equal competitor, if not maybe even better than the outlet since the warranties do apply. Prices pretty much match the outlet so maybe it is better. All in all, I am a faithful shopper at The Northface Outlet and I do love my good deals when I do get there at a good time of the year. read more

I love it. But I don't love it as well. What I love: North Face jackets, backpacks, shells, accessories at a fraction of the price you pay at a regular store. So far, I've only gotten myself a backpack which I paid about 40 to 50 percent off. Depending on what time and days (there are super sales sometimes), you can find some nice deals if you don't mind that they may not be the latest style around and that no warranties are given. Getting to the store is quite simple if you have a car and can find parking. What I don't love: If you were anything less than a medium size, it is almost impossible to find ANY jackets. Since I've came to the outlet so many times, I have not been lucky. However, for those who wear large and above, the only problem would be whether or not you like the style. Despite the price cut, it can still be pricey. Other than that, there's REI about several blocks away. read more

Today, is my first time to go to that outlet. I found that outlet do carry a lot of Northface products. Pretty good price. Jacket already market down and then have another 40% off. My kid and me and my husband, all bought something. I really like Northface product, I normally won't buy in regular "retail shop" for full price like in Macy. Plus in this outlet, you have a lot of northface products in one location, if you are a northface "fan". The staffs/employees in this outlet is very friendly and helpful. Definitely will drop by again when I need some new northface gear.(or clothing). read more

I was just there today and indeed they have lots of stuff ! At the moment they're having a sale (40% off lowest price tagged on all backpacks), and 50% or more/less on mostly everything else in apparel sections. I went in search for a backpack, and ended up finding out the following things: (1) Sale mentioned above will be ongoing until 11/30, after which time they will probably have more of a sale & selection in light of the Christmas holiday shopping. (2) The outlet will somewhat always be behind the online and other retailers in availability of products, so if you're expecting the fall-2008 line backpack products like me for example, don't be surprised if they do not have them. I was sorta disappointed on that one, but after doing some online research beforehand, I figured that their prices with this sale was still a much better deal. (3) Outlet = No warranty (4) Return policy on unused/unworn = 60 days or less for full refund ... So with $39 I had myself a nice backpack out the door... Hope it helps =) read more

I ALWAYS find great deals here. I love coming here because it's like a scavenger hunt. Some people hate looking for the deals but I REALLY enjoy it! This is why I love other outlet stores like, Nordstrom Rack, Ross, etc. Anyway, the staff is really helpful (sometimes way too helpful....take note, North Face Outlet) and the store is pretty clean. Though you do get crowds of people who don't know how to say excuse me on weekends, the store is still a pretty pleasant place to shop. Getting someone to open up a fitting room for you can be a pain but I guess their understaffed-ness is part of why they are able to offer lower prices. read more

Get there early. There is a small parking lot that can fit about seven cars and the rest is street parking. We arrived at 10:30a on a Saturday and the streets were pretty empty (although the parking lot was full). When we were done shopping by noon, street parking was pretty slim. They had two huge showrooms, one size mens and womens jackets, pants, vests, and accessories, the other toddler, babies, shoes, backpacks, and sample sales. The prices were discounted $30-40 off ticketed prices and then you take an additional 40-50% off. Sweet! They had a good selection of sizes although if you were trying to get XXL, it was pretty slim. Workers were pretty helpful in finding sizes if you couldn't. They also had a pretty cool baby selection of prams and snow bibs. I love this place. I'd rather go here than the snowboard sales held at convention centers next time I need some snow gear. read more

I am lovin' this outlet; it was my first time there recently. Parking is limited (small parking lot) or park along the street. Two large showrooms inside, one for the men, one for the women. Designs were more plentiful for women (hooray!); the men didn't have as wide of a selection though. Due to the fact that we came by after the holidays, I'm thinking the selection of sizes was limited too. However, my husband and I were able to each pick up 1 item per person. :) There is no warranty on any of the purchases you make here, so just have that expectation in mind! Other than that, the prices are super reasonable. :) read more

I came here at around 10:30am and there weren't that many people. It was worth coming here today. I will definitely return for another sale. read more

Lately, I have noticed in the north face outlet Berkeley, there are a couple of "purchasing agents" and they do "live streaming" in the store for a couple of hours every day. This is very disturbing and violating customers' privacy when we are shopping in the stores. Additionally, they deprived others of their right to buy when they buy too much every time. Currently, there are no caps on the quantity for them at all. They could even put the items in their carts and walk around for 2-3 hours. They won't give up until they can't sell them during the "live streaming" section. Very disappointed. read more

Came on a Sunday afternoon after my bf told me there were great deals here. He wasn't lyin!! I got a pink northface backpack for only $40, which is almost 2/3 off the original price. Also got a wind breaker and a grey hoodie. The nice thing about the outlets is that there can be discounts ON TOP of discounts! I suggest checking out the north face outlet if you want something rather than going to the store and paying retail. Although there were tons of ppl here, the store was well managed and organized. There are only 3 fitting rooms here which are located right next to the registers. The parking lot is super tiny but you wouldn't have a problem finding parking on the street. read more

The worst place I have ever been. I was about to check out with my baby's little hat. As I am currently in the last month of my pregnancy, I called my husband to pick me up at the parking place. This place has small place to park your vehicle, and you always will find difficulty in finding parking place. My husband entered the space, waiting for me. He was ready to pull out our car whenever another car enters or someone retrieve their cars out of the designated area. I was almost done with the payment, but the manager asked my husband to pull out the car. My husband told the manager that he was temporarily waiting for me, and that he would pull the car out as soon as I am done or other car enters the place. Then, the manager threatened my husband that he would call the police and showed him that he was actually calling the police. I admit that my husband was not in the designated parking area. But it was just for waiting me checking out, as I was pregnant and he could not park the car at any close area. Not to mention that this area has poor parking place, you can be reported to police by the manager himself, even if you have any special circumstances for just waiting. What kind of stores call the police to report its own customer, just because the customer needed to pick up pregnant women? May be, it is because the store is earning too much for its hostile and unfriendly attitude toward its own customer. The manager could just have told my husband why he really needed to pull the car out, instead of showing that the manager called the police, Or may be, the manager could have waited for a minute until pregnant customer gets the ride. read more

Well this isn't a place you can just walk into on a weekend and start piling things into a basket. Every piece is at least $100, but if you wait for the huge sales, usually 2-3 times per year I think, you can find great bargains. I remember I got 2 guy friends each a beanie/knit cap for $5 each. I also got a cool and colorful women's beanie for myself even though I have never worn, but that's not hardly the point! I'm also a big fan of their fleece jackets because they are light and warm. Their rainjackets and not only simple and stylish but waterproof. I've had a few of their backpacks during my time in college and they are extra sturdy and definitely rip-proof. Only downside is sometimes they only have XXXL sizes. TIP: Check the SF Bay Guardian as they usually advertise here when they have huge sales. read more

Really impressed with how calm, efficient and together the North Face staff was for Black Friday. The lines were long, yes, but orderly and moving. People were friendly and things were reorganized so quickly it was easy for people to get in and out for what they wanted. Everything was 30-40% off and I got a down jacket for ultimately half off the regular price, and a fleece for $19.99. All that aside, I'm mostly writing because this was my only BF stop this year and it made me laugh that even right upon opening, I was mostly surrounded by 50-year-old Chinese women. I always drive by The North Face outlet but never went in because it was always so hard to find parking. Luckily, I was able to visit the store last week and got parking in the front parking lot. Parking: Very hard to search for parking unless you walk further, only 6 parking spots near the front door. Inside: The store is actually very big inside with lots of options for the whole family. However, since it is an outlet, the quality of the clothes weren't that great. Price: A pretty good price for the brand but the quality is not great. I remember I bought a jacket from the store and it only lasted less than half a year before the inside starting tearing. read more

I came here on Father's Day and I got to the store a few minutes before they opened. Already, there were a few families waiting outside, so I guessed that there was probably some special sale going on. It turned out that they had samples out for sale and those clothings were heavily discounted. However, it got quite chaotic as clothes were everywhere and I had a hard time looking through the boxes and maneuvering around all the people. Another downfall was that samples could not be tried on, so I had no idea whether I was buying the right size or not. I gave up trying to dig through the boxes and went to the regular sales section of the store which had less people. The sales there were not too bad either. However, once I got to the fitting room, which was right next to the cashier counters, I had to wait a long time before someone came to unlock the room for me. It was very annoying because I ended up having to go try on the clothing twice, and both times, I had to wait for someone to come. I wished that I could've came on a less hectic day, but nevertheless, I did not go home empty handed and scored some good deals:) read more

I got a great deal on a couple casual short-sleeve shirts and almost found some gloves, but got weary digging through the pile. I have been to this store twice, being that it's almost an hour away, but both times have been generally good despite some customer service issues that my boyfriend had emailed to the store and got a response within 2 weeks from the GENERAL MANAGER. The GM called, we talked, intends to fix the problem, and most importantly, confirmed our belief that despite being an outlet store, customer service should not EVER be sacrificed, especially with such a great retail brand such as The North Face. That was besides the point, except to tell you that this brand REALLY cares about its customers. Anyways, parking sucks, but you can eventually find some ghetto looking street spot just a short walk away. The store is huge, like warehouse size! Jackets EVERYWHERE, like ALL UP ON THE WALLS and shizz!! Granted, smaller sizes can be hard to find, because...it's an outlet, duh! If you dig hard, do some cell phone calculations, the savings are amazing. And the items are literally passed down from the retail stores once the season ends, which is usually in real life, when the season is still in season! The employees are nice, the prices are always slashed and on sale (maybe a marketing scheme, but it works!), jackets, fleece things, backpacks, shoes, clothes, gloves, tent shoes, scarves, some Sigg bottles..... I went to their little FINAL SALE section and found myself an XS 3 layer ski jacket for half the original price. I paid $100 for a simple black ski jacket, with all the fun pockets, an inner removable jacket in brown plaid (CUTE), and the only problem was that someone returned it to the retail store without a hood (how the hell does that happen? who cares). My boyfriend eventually found a light jacket that is SUPER SMOOTH and SOFT, yet durable, and his momma found some patterned long sleeve thermals for $15 each. Dig hard, take your time, do some calculations, trade off some aspects to find the best jacket at the best price....YOU'VE GOT YOURSELF A THE NORTH FACE ITEM! read more

Parking is kinda a problem.Street parking a few blocks behind the store front. Most display rack we're 20 to 40% off price on the tags. We had to exchange an item & it was easy. I wanted a North Face jacket but didn't want to pay hundreds of dollars. Face it, I live in California and am not a huge fan of snow anyway. I've been to this location twice and it seems the sales are better on weekends (ex: addt'l 40% off lowest listed price) but it's also more crowded. There's a small lot that fits about 10 cars in front of the store and plenty of parking on 5th street. Most of what you can find at the store is jackets galore. There is also a reasonable selection of shoes, athletic wear, and gloves/hats. Jackets range from ~$50 to $200 (before the addt'l % off if there is one). I ended up purchasing the tri-climate jacket with the quilted, puffy jacket in the inside for ~$129. Lucky me, they also had a promotion where if you signed up on their mailing list and spent over $120, you got 10% off. Looking forward to coupons via email! As for the quality, I'm not too familiar with the brand so I will update as appropriate. It seems fairly nice and very warm. It was certainly nicer than the $99 Columbia light rain jacket (evaPOURation) that I got at REI (and recall, the Tri-Climate is 2 jackets in 1). I did size up on the jacket as I wanted to be able to wear a sweater inside and make it easy to zip. read more

My friends have mentioned this place quite a bit and since I work in Berkeley and happened to be in Berkeley this weekend for a Yelp Elite event, I decided to trek to the store from the event and walk off some food. I walked to 4th Street first and then straight down to Gilman in about 15 minutes. The store is easy enough to spot from the street. If you plan on driving, there's a very small lot but there is street parking. Walking in, I was happy to see that everything was spaced out. Often times, these types of stores aren't well organized and feel a bit crampy but this store didn't. It appeared that the whole bottom floor was dedicated to men's clothing so I went upstairs to the women and children section; both were very limited in selection. The prices are okay but a lot of what they had didn't really appeal to me or wasn't in my size. I did find a nice white North Face jacket in the clearance section for $60 but decided that white was an iffy choice since it could get dirty really easily (and looking closely at the one I tried on, I could see evidence of this). I've gone to the new outlet in Livermore (San Francisco Premium Outlets) and found they are much smaller but with a better selection. I'll probably continue going there but if you're in the Berkeley area and love North Face, I'd still recommend hitting this place up! read more

No one should be paying full price for North Face Attire. I prefer this location as oppose to Livermore Northface outlets because of the color options and variety. There tends to be a larger selection of quality products as well as the color sizes for them. The items here are usually 30%-50% off and I often am able to pick up 1-2 things when I occasionally visit. The shopping experience is decent as it is not too crowded but I did see a small line outside prior to store opening. I would recommend this location if you are in need of some fresh North Face Gear. If nothing here stands out for you, don't hesitate to check out the Livermore outlets location as well. read more

It was my first time in the store. Lots of great merchandise and good quality. The salespeople kept their distance and wore masks. I was looking for shoes to walk the trails at our regional parks. There were three pairs in my size. I was informed that in a few weeks another shipment was expected. I've shopped at outlets before and that's how they roll. After a few minutes he shouts out that they are closing those registers and we need to go the other side to check out. I continue to stand there cause he cannot be serious as there are only 2 of us in that line that need to be check out and most customer service experience ive have ever had quickly check the last ppl in line then close instead of closing and ingnoring everyone that was already in line. He shouts out again they are closing those registers and to go to the other side. I cannot believe it and just drop on items and walk out. It was so rude. There were no signs or warning stating the registers were closed before i entered the line. I understand it was close to closing time but there was no overhead announcement they were closing in however many minutes. read more

I unfortunately fit a small or x-small but that didn't stop me! Since I was already browsing the boxes of stuffed North Face merchandise for the bf... I had to look for myself too :) I ended up finding a medium flight series zip up hoodie that fit very well since it was meant to be tight. Then when the bf was trying on my selections, I thought I'd wander off to the non-sample items since there was an additional 10% off. Luck that I did! I found a nice raincoat for under $50. I was lucky and randomly shopped here when there was a sample sale going on. I honestly didn't know what a "sample sale" was at first, and I found out it's when retail businesses get rid of excess merchandise. Also, this location is an outlet store, so a lot of already marked down prices are lowered down even more because the merchandise is from the season prior, or even before that. I thought it was misleading at first because there were signs that said, "[x]% off," then the signs had fine print underneath, which said, "prior season prices." I asked a sales floor staff and everything in the store was on sale and the clothes were from last season. I initially thought it was a particular section of that section, but I was just overthinking things haha. There was a great selection in the store for everyone. It was difficult to leave empty-handed. The store was overwhelming with sales, but the staff here is great and will help. Jason, in particular, is the man to ask. Jason helped me price scan, find matching apparel, and alternatives to the clothing items I wanted. He made my shopping smooth and easy, and I would def come back. Hopefully when another sale is happening haha read more

Their customer service sucks and is disappointing because I like the TNF gear. I had bought some gloves and they started falling apart after one day of use, I came to return them and they suggested using the warranty. They said they would send them in to the Alameda warranty location and I asked how can I track it and they said that it is not possible. It has been more than one month and I still haven't heard anything from the warranty center which means the Berkeley outlet never sent them. My final stop in the search for hiking pants and was able to find a decent pair at a great deal ($35). Surprisingly busy for a weekday morning and the store was well-stocked with a variety of North Face items. Pricing was a bit confusing as there were lots of "50% extra off" and "take 30% off lowest price" signs throughout the store, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the pants I chose were actually more than 50 percent off the lowest price. Yes, I realize that this is part of the outlet pricing model, but at the same time, these pants were still $40 cheaper than comparable styles at REI and Sports Basement. read more

quick tip: get here early or when it opens. parking on the next street as there's always been parking when i get there. you can call in to ask for the deals but there's usually really good deals here. i've bought 3 jackets here in the last 2 months so i'm good for awhile. note that small sizes here run out quick, i wear XS jackets and i end up finding the last one there (so come early!). ranges from $50 to ~$100. service is great here. ask any one of the SA to find any sizes or colors. read more

The North Face outlet had some pretty good deals. Prices were roughly half off of MSRP if not more. The selection and styles were descent. Looking forward to the semi annual sale. Getting more bang for the buck. Careful looking for parking Gilman is a very busy street and there isn't crosswalk. The private parking lot has about 10 spaces or so. read more
