I always make it a point of stopping in at the outlet store on every visit in town because there is always some great deal on clothing or gear. It is very rare that I leave the store empty handed! I love it when their prices are already 20-30% off regular prices, but when there is a sale? Even more savings! I always travel light so I have room for all the North Face stuff that I buy! The North Face Outlet is probably the only place I bother visiting on Black Friday. The long line to get in is worth the wait because it really isn't that long of a wait. I really love this store- if it weren't around I probably wouldn't have as many North Face articles of clothing as I do. I've bought 6 jackets from here, and I guarantee I wouldn't have them today if I had to pay full price for them. Everything is already discounted and priced as marked, but during the holidays(right now!) they take an extra 30% off the entire store- how sweet is that? "I can't believe how fast 2011 has flown by!" My daughter and I happen to drop by shortly after 11am and there were nobody in line but us. As soon as a pair of shoppers left, we went in. What we see are a bunch of hungry shoppers looking and browsing for the perfect gear and/or accessories for themselves and/or as a gift. All items are 50% off the regular tagged price and the second item and beyond will receive another 25% off. Of course the most expensive item rang up first. It was such a chaotic event. People were tossing jackets and other clothing all around. Every items in the warehouse are carelessly flown everywhere but the proper rack. Seems like there were more women and kids apparels than men. Many of the men's clothing are Large or XL. I should not have lost all that weight. Other than the bumps and bruises that we endured, my daughter got a black overcoat and a backpack for under $75.00. Not a bad deal for all the punishment we took from those animals. The actual store is much more serene than the sample sale. But we didn't buy anything from the store. I'm not much of a North Face person anyway. But some of the items are cool though. read more

FALL SAMPLE SALE 2012! I am a size Medium. The Outlet rarely has size medium in popular designs and so I often leave empty handed or only partially satisfied. Right now the Fall Sample Sale is on and everything in the sale is size Medium! For the sample sale they divide the store into two, the regular store and the samples, and you enter through separate doors. Unfortunately, everything in the sample sale is just piled into boxes, except for shoes which are also in racks. This means you have to rummage through hundreds of cardboard boxes to see if there is anything for you. As I mentioned, this is the FALL Sample Sale, they also have a SPRING Sample Sale. The FALL sale is pretty much jackets, camping gear, and footwear. I understand that the SPRING sale has more shirts, pants and underwear. I picked up a Gore-Tex jacket for $100, Gore-Tex hiking shoes for $40, and really nice insulated boots for $60. If you are of average build, like me, the Sample Sale is an experience you shouldn't miss! For small and really big people the regular store is still open and they have pretty steep discounts right now (40-50% off). We arrived about 10 minutes before the store opened. The small parking lot was already filled, but there was still street parking across the street. There were about a dozen or so people outside waiting to get in the store. We entered and were greeted by very friendly staff. We found a ton of stuff that we would love to have, but only bought a couple of things we needed. As we shopped several staffed asked us if we need assistance. I totally do not expect this level of service in an outlet, I was pleasantly surprised. We then checked out with the cashier, a couple of pairs of shoes and a new jacket for around $100! Pretty good deals on truly quality clothes. Most of the stuff you buy here is not under warranty, but that doesn't bother me because I know there stuff will last!!! read more

Take your time looking through the goodies Not many women's XS :( Found a Prolix Jacket for $45 (orig. $80) After shopping around Fourth Street, I wanted to visit the North Face Outlet since we were already in the west part of town! Their sale just started this weekend... at least 30%off and some 40%off! There were a lot of colorful backpacks and unusually colored clothes. haha When coming here you need a lot of patience and time to sift through the good and bad stuff. There were TONS of L and XL sizes. XS was a rarity. :( I found an XS lightweight jacket and supposedly it's water repellent. My friend said he'll hose me down one of these days to see if it really is water repellent. Maybe when it's warmer =P haha BTW- I want to go to their sample sale! This store is dangerous...especially when it's time for the sample sale. I hate searching through boxes...but I'll make an exception when I come here. They have an entire set up full of boxes on tables that you can go through to find that diamond in the rough. Today, I found bike shorts...for $15. What??? Are you kidding me? They also had awesome pullovers for $25. Other days of the year, they always have pretty good sales ranging anywhere from 10%-50% off most items. It's really hard to leave this store without purchasing anything. Sizes tend to go quickly...so if you see something you might want to buy, hang onto it until you decide otherwise. Parking can be found on the street or in the lot. Service is always friendly. Try to limit yourself to a couple visits a year or you'll be broke! Haha. read more

This is another one of those places that I really shouldn't step into because I lose all sense of self - control. Their sample sale is coming up next month if anyone is interested btw!! Good thing I won't be here next month because I would probably buy way too much stuff. They have a huge selection of jackets/ sweaters / pants/ boots/ snow boots/ hats / etc here. The men and womens selection is almost the same size which was great because usually stores have a lot larger selection for women than men. I was looking for a snow parka and snow boots, both of which I was able to find with an addtl. 40% off. so the snow jacket was $135 and the snow boots were $70. The snow jacket would originally be 230 and 160 for the boots. I also purchased a pair of running shorts for $16. They don't have that many small sizes here for the more popular items, so you should probably come at least once or twice a month if you really want a particular item. They have a huge selection of jackets here in every color you could ever want. The snow summit jackets are currently on sale for about $60 which is really worth it since they provide great protection for snow and wind and are also water proof. You definitely need to check out this store before heading to REI or the regular North Face store. read more

Years ago, the North Face Outlet was a normal store that was not crowed. But now it is a busy store that has become a destination point for tourists. Their parking lot is small some parking on the surrounding streets can be a challenge especially during the weekends. The store does carry an extensive line of clothing styles for men and women. They have some shoes and gear as well. Lately for me, I might find a style and color that I like, but they would be out of my size and all that's left is XL and XXL. Pricing without the additional percentage mark-down could still be on the pricier side. Shopping here can be a hit or miss, probably depending when the new inventory comes in. But given how busy the store usually is, it is a hit for most people. read more

I love this location. They have a great sample sale. We went here before going to Iceland to get the appropriate hiking gear. Let me tell you this was the right decision to make. We got great 3 in 1 jackets that kept us layering out clothes. In addition to gearing up ourselves, we got our 6 month old a bunch of gear as well because she needed to be bundled up. I hope all of you got something good at the sample sale. I happened to have stumbled upon it by accident when I wanted to browse. An hour or so later, I made a conscious decision to eat ramen for the rest of the month. But so worth it. (Ok, no ramen. I work hard fo da monies). All the jackets were priced at $60 and the down jackets with 700 count of down feathers were priced at $100. Very straight forward and no gimmicks. The shirts and accessories varied but most tops were between 10-25. Everything was in size M for the adults! The store was basically a Ross on LSD. Everything was in boxes, clothes scattered everywhere, nothing in any particular order. It was great! It definitely made the hunt so much more exciting. I would recommend coming here only for the sample sale. I've come before on a non-sample day and everything was still expensive despite the discounts. The selections are actually good. There were some strange unconventional colors but a lot of things were also good. Lots of neutral and earthy colors, in a variety of styles. Babies aren't to be forgotten either because I saw a bunch of baby clothes and accessories. Plan to spend at least an hour. Bring bottled water and definitely eat something before you come. Okay, I'm a The North Face fan! After my friend no longer works at TNF, I'm on my own getting more gear! This outlet carries mainly previous season's merchandise and is sold at a discount. The North Face warranty doesn't apply... If you look closely inside the tag, they marked the "O" in North to mark it as outlet merchandise and Xed out the Warranty booklet. If you read the white tag inside the garments, the first row indicates the season and year it was produced! As usual, staff was friendly and can be seen sporting an entire TNF outfit and name tag. They also have a section for sample merchandise. Plenty of parking on the street, if the 5 spots on the property are full upon arrival! read more

How is it that I go into the North Face Outlet to buy a puffy white jacket, and come out with two pairs of board shorts, two pairs of hiking shorts, and two belts in the dead of winter?? Must be because I'm from SoCal and know the importance of a good deal on clothes I can wear 90% of the time. All that for $95! Great sale, it was like 30-40% off everything and they had a big selection of summer stuff left. I think guys are a lot happier and satisfied at this place b/c they actually have their sizes... now for women... not so happy... I mean I wasn't! I saw a couple of shorts and convertible pants (that I desperately needed) and they were on sale... so I got excited and started looking... and looked... and looked some more... to no avail! I visited once a few years back but wasn't so impressed with their selections. The workers weren't very friendly and only attempted to assist those that "looked" the NF type. Fortunately years have gone by and I decided to give this outlet another try for the benefit of the doubt. Especially since a fellow Yelp friend highly rated this place (Ahem... Nico). So I came one Saturday morning and waited for the store to open. Tons of people... I mean TONS of people were there early waiting to get in. They were having a 30% off sale on all items in the store. I picked up two items. A NF sweatshirt and a cute jacket. I wanted to get something for the boyfriend but wasn't able to because the sizes were really limited in men's small. Surprised to have found a great deal on a pair of rain jackets! I've was skeptical at first given that it is an outlet. I was wrong! Besides raincoats, they do carry shirts, sweaters, coats in a variety of styles. Not much in their shoe selections, but you may occasionally find boots in your size and liking. Customer service is great. Often coupons will be handed to you at the entrance. Staff is quite helpful locating a product for you. read more

Bad customer service!!! I came all the way from Vallejo I got there exactly at 5:30 , half an hour before the store closes so I was told that the guys in from of me were the last ones. The store is huge and they have a few people inside . Come on every one is wearing a mask and sanitize their hands before entering. Don't be ridiculous and make customers waste their time. You'd think that a store like North Face would have bike parking out front ... but instead I had to lock my bike up against the handicap parking sign pole. As I was doing this, I nearly got hit by a giant van pulling into the spot. I guess handicap people like company. Who knew it was so large inside! There was a door greeter ... I'm not sure if this is typical ... though they just watched me flip this bag over and over again trying to find a price tag on it - I gave up. Oh well, their job is to greet you, not try to make a sale. A lot of jackets (though tis the season it is not?) but I got some good deals on board shorts and capris. Yes their really expensive Jackets and some other gear are marked down, and I guess when I went with my friend I wasn't in the mood to drop any cash on coats. I did find a few fleece pullovers that were really good deals, perfect for Christmas so that made my trip worthwhile. I think you just have to hit them up at the right time and it looked like they may have had a sale, and things were really picked through. I think the thing that made them lose a star was the bored cashier that checked me. I know it's not the most stimulating job but hey, IT'S A JOB you're working! Goes without saying that with all outlets it's going to be a hit or miss depending on what you happen to be looking for that day. I was expecting a huge messy store with random odds and ends and only sizes like XXXL left. Or worse...an outlet without actual outlet prices. Pleasantly surprised to see racks after racks of jackets and fleeces organized accordingly to style and color. Maybe I arrived right after a new shipment or something, but there was surprisingly more stock in the back so don't be afraid to ask an employee to double check for more sizes! After a bit of digging, found a (cute!) snowboarding jacket (in the hard-to-find size Small!) with detachable fleece for about half its original retail price! Score! Didn't have as much luck with snowboarding pants as there were only Mediums and up left. Sigh... The store consists of mostly jackets, fleeces, and kids stuff. Accessories and pants (for women) are more limited in selection. Employees were super nice and helpful, unheard of at an outlet! Great place if you're looking for snow/winter/hiking gear and aren't set on anything specific. No need to wait for sales or compare prices between 35983477 stores because there are some great bargains to be found here! Being from Alaska we don't have any kind of outlets, so when I heard about the North Face Outlet I almost fell over from the joy. I thought I could stock up on all of my favorites at discounted prices! The selection is huge. Especially the mens selection. Some things were 30% off with a select few items that were 50-70% off, but I am not a man. lol Or atleast I hope not. The womens selection was large, but not any of the items I was looking for. There were some great parkas though, but the discounts just werent good enough to buy (like 30%) The kids selection was almost barren. I wanted a few Denalis for my son, but they didnt have any in 2T, barely anything for boys actually. Lots of little girl things though. Overall the selection is expansive, but really depends on what you are looking for. Either way I am always down for a good deal and I am more than willing to search for one. An upcoming MLK ski week-end prompted a visit to this winter bargains mecca. Additional 30-50% off markdowns added to the already ridiculously low prices for these great finds. The husband's $400 jacket was marked down to $180 after a 30% discount. My $350 jacket which was missing a vest and some battery-powered heater/on-demand warmer-- a gadget so curious to me that I was almost relieved by its absence--was marked down to $70! Vests, fleece jackets, shoes, gloves and tees could be had for a portion of their regular price. -1 star though for the over abundance of uber feminine-cotton candy-easter egg-pastel colored jackets with fur-lined hoods. Come ON Northface. Can we get some earth tones, some blacks, some browns for the women? I'm not liking so much the idea of sporting the purple jacket only to look like a big fat grape rolling down the side of the mountain as I careen down the bunny slopes. read more

I just moved back from New York and I wanted to fit in with my new surroundings. I wanted to look like everyone else here in Berkeley: black North Face fleece (it's not cool unless you have that white 3-arc emblem on your upper right shoulder), jeans, and sneakers. And the North Face backpack. And maybe North Face soft shell jacket, too, on those overcast foggy days. Being poor, I went to the NF Outlet. The first few times were disappointing. The prices were discounted, but not by much (e.g. $150 instead of $180 for a jacket). Every once in a while I'd find something decent, but never a steal. Twice a year they have a sample sale: all size mediums, final sale only. The most recent one which is going on currently has outerwear and snowboarding pants for $90, vests and light outerwear for $55, and cotton/ activewear for $20. Some bags are $35, which is a bargain. Overall, it's ... okay. Prices and selection are not great. It's also a madhouse the first few days (there's a line to enter the store); there's no dressing room at the sample sale; and you need to rummage through loads and loads of boxes. Prepare to spend some serious time, or don't even bother going. Anyway, it's definitely a hit-or-miss shopping here. Usually a miss. This was totally worth the drive from San Jose over the weekend!!! After being referred by one friend and my family physician (lol) to go to this particular store to look for heavy-duty winter clothes in the middle of spring/summer, I finally made the drive up. I made sure to call ahead of time to check the sales on winter jackets since they change their sales every week or so. I had a very positive experience shopping here and I appreciated all the staff members taking the initiative to approach customers and ensure they were able to find what they needed. A number of staff members throughout my visit were explaining to me the difference between jackets, which helped immensely!! This outlet store had a great selection and I was able to find decent deals (ranging from 40-70% off original price) for XS, S, and M, which are particularly harder to find for high-demand sale items. OK- so I must be honest, I stepped foot inside TNF at Westfield Valley Fair just once last year but that's only because my coworker then wanted to browse during our lunch. I have no clue what to expect but I did notice a nice looking jacket, saw that it was on sale so I was hopeful that I'll be making a purchase but when I saw the price, I immediately felt that I was too poor to even be in this store! I found out about this place from Michael, my Mayonnaise whom relocated to NYC a few months ago. Now I don't travel nor have I ever really experienced snow so why on earth would I need to shop for TNF gear for? However, this Christmas I will be flying to NYC so I need to be fully equipped w/ warm attire because if I'm already complaining over here, I will certainly die over there. 5 stars if you find a great deal and find something that fits you. 3 stars because I usually don't find "outlet pricing" or anything. In the past I've bought a few things but $20 for running shorts and $65 for running shoes is still a little steep as outlet pricing especially when REI has similar products of the same brand in their clearance rack at a cheaper pricing ratio. Check with the current return policy. I would pay extra at other stores down the street knowing I could return it after testing it out a few months down the line. Product marking :: Most products if not all are marked in someway where it is easy for them to identify the item was purchased at an Outlet. Maybe for warranty issues. Customer service is good IF you talk to the right person. Don't buy something based on something 1 employee says. Ask a few others and base your decision from the answers collectively. On busy days you'll find yourself parking near the recycling center or train tracks next down the street! read more

This place has A LOT of stuff for fractions of the original prices! I got a gray and black denali jacket there for $75, which may seem like a buttload of cash BUT it was originally $165. At first I was very reluctant to purchase the jacket, but then I remembered that I was there for some retail therapy, so I couldn't leave empty handed. Plus, I could always return it if I didn't want it anymore. Turns out, I wear that jacket more than i thought I would and it was worth the $$ I dished out. I also got a backpack from there. They didn't have the colors of the backpack I wanted but the colors they had weren't bad so I just bought one anyways. (originally $75; got it for $55) Also, this outlet has a lot of the discontinued items, so if you're looking for something specific that you can't find in the stores, this north face is your best bet! They also have dressing rooms, so if you need to try something on, you can! Lastly, someone mentioned previously that there aren't that many parking lot spaces, which is true BUT the street the outlet is on is riddled with spaces. read more

North Face will not honor their lifetime warranty - Beware! The rain fly on my North Face tent failed with all of the plastic parts deteriorating. At first I was not concerned because the tent was covered with TNF Lifetime Warranty. I sent the rain fly in for repairs only to be notified that "the breakdown of materials due to age is not covered". Due to age? What the heck does Life Time mean. Buy Patagonia or Mountain Hardware. They honor their product warranty! read more

They offer so much variety in such a small location. I came looking for a new backpack and an employee suggested that I get a Black Isabella instead. She was very friendly and informed me of the once a year sale event that goes on. I opted to wait for a backpack and went to the sale event instead. The line was crazy long! Some of the first couple of people in line came from across the globe like China and Japan to get in on this deal and re-sell the items back in their home country. It was like Black Friday, except for North Face. It was definitely well worth the wait, however I suggest going early to get the good stuff. I got 2 backpacks originally retailed for $60 each, half the price! I also got a waterproof jacket retailed at $140 for only $50. Definitely a steal. read more

Ah! I've been wanting to visit this store for 2 years now ever since I heard a North Face Outlet existed. My GPS was very confused by the address. This place is NOT in Berkeley, it's in Albany!! Or at least according to my GPS, so if you're having trouble finding this place, try using Albany as the city. The parking lot is tiny tiny tiny! You're better off finding street parking. Remember to lock your doors and windows, this neighborhood is sketchy. Wahh, this place is pretty big! It's a big warehouse. So many items!! At first my jaw dropped, but after a closer inspection I was disappointed. The jacket I wanted only had XS. Lame! Most of the stuff they had here was weird colored or didn't have the right size. I was lucky enough to find something though! A nice light blue pullover. So comfy and soft!! I'll probably come back again when I'm in the area. I finally went to this store yesterday, after almost five years of living in the East Bay. Shame on me! It's a large store with lots of inventory. Unfortunately, I came here primarily to buy waterproof snowboard pants and they only had one rack filled with pants - size XL. Bummer! They have a plethora of jackets and shirts though, and a small selection of shoes. My friend that I brought here was like a kid in a candy store and ended up buying a jacket, three shirts, running shoes, and a pair of slippers. It's probably one of those places you have to visit regularly in order to be there when they get new inventory - hopefully you will get lucky with sizes. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the market for a new down jacket as this is what they seem to specialize in. read more

I was still able to leave with a backpack and a jacket, but I got super lucky with the backpack. Apparently, they don't always have a supply of backpacks, it's only during their sample sale and during back to school (according to the rep I asked). I got a Borealis backpack for $50 (including tax) and a lightweight packable down jacket for $50. With tax, everything was about $114. I was happy with my purchases, but you really do have to have the patience to get in there and look and dig. read more

This place is a hit or a miss. Very few parking spots. Maybe like 5-6 + handicapped. My favorite time to come here is during their Winter Clearance. I love snow sports so every once in awhile, I need some new equipment. One time when I was up in Tahoe, my goggles were smashed from a skiing accident. I came by here to get a new pair but I couldn't return/send since I needed it for court. They gave us a discount. Woohoo! I recently just bought my new ski jacket from here. It was originally on sale for $300-ish but it went down to about $125 after all the discounts. Print the coupons that they send to you when you spend $150+. It might come in handy! Overall, you have to look around for stuff since people put everything everywhere. So what you are holding might actually be cheaper than what it appears. If you see a stain or a little snag or even just a weird lookin' dot, ask for a discount! It wouldn't hurt. If the manager is in a good mood, they'll give you 10% off! That's tax right there! I think this is a great place to get a north face backpack if you want one. it is a lot better than paying retail, but there is no warranty. Honestly, I do not think you'll need it. The main floor is basically all jackets, minus a cabinet of maybe goggles, sunglasses, and watches, and a basket of gloves/hats/flipflops/socks in front of the registers (that's how they get you to pick up extra little things that are "only" $3-10 bucks). The side floor is is where you'll find out door camping equipment, shoes, and running equipment. I think it's worth a shot coming here if you plan on buying THE NORTH FACE.
