Not to be missed if in Athenry. Julie who owns and works this small coffee and crepe shop has been here for 14 years. It's absolutely amazing. We came in to a small community center. And when I say small I mean something like 8'x10'. Julie works behind the counter which is full of goodies scones and cupcakes that she's just baked today. Everything here is truly delicious. Julie is an extraordinary host welcoming you into what feels to be her kitchen. The town regulars stop in for a cup of coffee or just conversation. Even the priest was there to eat his breakfast. We stayed more than an hour speaking with the people coming and going into this very unique place. Needless to say the ambience feels like you're in her home.
The coffee is just great. I ordered a cappuccino that was dusted with chocolate on top. Smooth and delicious. My wife enjoyed her latte very much. We ordered 2 savory crepes, the Vegetarian and the Smoky Yoke. My wife said that this was the best crepe she had ever enjoyed. What's amazing is the the crepe is thicker than what you usually receive and so it holds the contents without falling apart. And it has a great flavor. The crepes were absolutely great! Her scones are totally superb. My wife had a fruit scone and I had one with a name I don't remember. It was interestingly spiced, moist, with an incredible consistency.
Athenry is about 20 minutes east of Galway. The small town is worth a visit. It's worth coming here just to eat at The Nook. read more
