I love breakfast bowls and they had a few to choose from, so I selected one of those along with a blueberry pancake. I normally don't gravitate to our pancakes, but I had to try since I had a few different options. I just got one, but that was plenty with my breakfast bowl. I chose the blueberry pancake and it was one of the best I've had. The breakfast bowl came out nice and hot with great flavors and a couple eggs on top. Everything was just fantastic. The first time we went to The Nest, it was great for me -- the server also has celiac, and clearly looked out for me -- I did not get sick. I had the Big Bacon omelet, and my husband had the Gyro -- both enormous servings and delicious. My husband and I were so excited, because we've only been able to find a handful of restaurants that actually take food allergies seriously. The second time, when I told our server I have a severe gluten allergy (because most people genuinely do not know what celiac is . . .), she nonchalantly said "ok." I ordered the Cheesy Cheese; my husband had the Breakfast Burrito. While both were delicious (my husband couldn't finish his and said it was one of the best Breakfast Burritos he's eaten!), I barely made it to the BP gas station down the road before I got sick, and I was sick for 6 days! 6 days means DIRECT contamination -- either someone put toast on my plate and then took it off, or some other form of a direct hit with wheat/rye/barley (which could be soy sauce; "food" starch," etc.) It's so frustrating. I really try to do my best and order things that should be simple -- no sauces; no dressings -- if the kitchen and server take it seriously. It isn't a dietary choice -- believe me, my life would be much easier (and much more pleasant), if I did not have this disease. Sadly, we can't go back. read more

We were driving through the area on Sunday around noon and found The Nest for a quick breakfast. There was a short wait but the staff was warm and welcoming. The inside was very clean and it has a diner feel but nothing feels outdated. There were lots of great options on the menu and we enjoyed the breakfast burger and breakfast sandwich. The coffee was good and they were very conscientious about refilling and keeping our cup warmed up. The prices were incredibly reasonable. I'm sure we'll look for opportunities to stop there again. Kinda wish I lived closer to this gem, it would be a great regular breakfast spot. read more

The Nest! What a cute diner located in Vermilion. This unassuming spot has friendly service and satisfying, fast diner food. When a good diner is good, it's GOOD. Plan accordingly, because The Nest clearly has a popular local following and gets busy quickly. Upon walking in, I immediately felt like this was a hometown spot I had been frequenting for years. The inside atmosphere was warm and homey with plenty of seating. The hostess promptly seated us and it felt like we had our food even faster. Not many places exist anymore where you feel like you can have a cup of coffee, relax, and slow down a bit. The Nest reminds me of a spot I would have frequented with my Grandpa as a kid if I lived in the area. The food is typical greasy spoon diner fare and I mean that in the most loving way possible. When I visited, a number of dessert pancakes were on special like reese cups and fudge brownie. I ordered The Sailors Anchor omelette, which is essentially a veggie and meat omelette with sausage gravy on top. Atmosphere - Very Good. The restaurant is your typical family style restaurant. There is a small counter area and three rooms with tables and booths. There must be seating available for at least 100 people. Service - Very Good. Our server was pleasant and attentive. There was another staff person who was constantly offering coffee refills. Food - Very Good. I had only had breakfast here, and so I can not speak for the lunch menu (they close at 2:30 pm daily). However, I have eaten breakfast here at least a dozen times and I have never been disappointed. The menu has tons of options and the food is very good. I had the French Toast with a side of bacon and enjoyed it thoroughly. The coffee is very good as well. Overall Value - Very Good. The prices are very reasonable and food delicious. Seems to be a local hang out with a decent crowd. We got there kinda between lunch and breakfast so you can get either. There was a table across from us that had a crying and tantrum escalating toddler that was very annoying. Not the restaurant's fault but it is obnoxious. Got the turkey club. It was just ok. It's not that I expected anything spectacular but it was just ok. The rest of my party got breakfast and they seemed to like it for the most part. The service was ok. Our server was not that attentive. Prices were good. Plenty of parking. And a quick mention that the bathrooms need to be cleaned. They weren't awful but they weren't too clean. My family travels half an hour because the breakfast is so good! Fast service, you're seated immediately and someone's over with the menus before you blink. The corned beef hash, all breakfast bowls, and eggs Benedict cannot be criticized. My husband worked as a breakfast cook for years so he can be picky but he says the food tastes fresh, looks great, no puddles of grease or soggy waffles. Service was great and we didn't wait very long for our food to arrive and we had 7 people in our party. Two people of our party got the Reubens and had no complaints at all. I had the mushroom and Swiss burger was good however it was made with a pre made patty which takes makes the burger dry. Onion rings were amazing. The Nest is one of my favorite places to eat in Vermilion. The staff is incredible and you're never a stranger to them. The food is delicious and I recommend Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast or the Ranch Chicken Wrap for lunch! This restaurant is like what you would see in Hallmark movies for a small town diner. I have been going to the Nest since I was a little girl, and the food and the people are still so kind. The service is always great, and their menu is fun. It has an excellent breakfast foods selection, and unlike most places in the area, they give some healthy options, such as wheat toast and having the option to have egg whites in your omelette. (Thumb up for that!). I tried a bacon, mushroom, and Swiss omelette that was heavenly and also gigantic! It actually kept me full until dinner time. My son's chocolate chip pancakes were adorable and he loved the cute Mickey Mouse design. Definitely a kid-friendly establishment.:) On the other hand, I do truly wish that there was another side option to go with the omelette. It comes with a ton of hash browns, which looked good, but honestly, that's just way too much food and too many carbs for me! I asked if I could substitute them for a fruit or veggie side, but they do not allow substitutions. I can understand that, but I really don't like to be wasteful. The coffee is delicious, perfectly brewed, with a moderate roast. They grind it there! Adding cream or sugar would be doing your tastebuds a disservice. If you enjoy a solid cup of black coffee, you're on point here. The waffle was edible and slightly above average. It lacked a bit of crisp and may have had too much of something.
