Stopped by 11am on a Sunday. Ordered the "Hillbilly Breakfast" not because of the name being gimmicky, but because it had a little bit of everything: 2 eggs, 2 hot cakes or French toast, bacon or sausage links, potatoes and toast. I went with the hot cakes and bacon. The food came out looking nice and presentable, and the restaurant has that cozy, homey, old school diner aesthetic that I liked. The server was also very friendly and the service was great. I asked for my eggs fried but well done, and she asked if medium was okay. I said sure, but when they came out the yolks were very liquidy. That's not something I can do, so I ended up not eating the eggs. Unfortunately, the yolk also got all over my home fries, so I skipped those too. The home fries were pretty bland anyway, and looking back I probably should've gotten the hash browns instead. The hot cake wasn't bad, but I'll be honest... I make better pancakes at home. The bacon was fine and everything was presented nicely. read more

My dad likes to stop here from time to time while I'm visiting him in Lorain. It's not as good as it used to be. I find it a hit or miss. It's not always open when it should be, so don't go by the hours on Yelp. Give them a call. Service is also hit or miss. Sometimes its friendly, sometimes not so much. Food is the pretty good overall and plentiful. Typical greasy spoon mom and pop diner food with some local specialties. Nothing fancy here. I'd stick to the diner food and specialties rather than a steak or something like that. Prices aren't too bad. Overall? Just OK. read more

Been a long time since I have been here, could use a few updates to the decor. Although it is clean place just outdated carpet and bathrooms could use a bit of work as well. Food was decent I had a bacon burger and fries my wife had fish and chips. Reasonable price for most but perch and walleye little high in price for being right by the lake. A diner that won't serve breakfast is not only an insult to the community but is a disgrace to this country. I was shocked to hear the waitress tell me I couldn't order breakfast because I was 7 minutes late, but I was disgusted when she told the elderly couple that had struggled to make their way all the way into the restaurant to sit down and eat that they weren't getting breakfast either... I had to leave. Old man's exact words were "You're going to kill an old man over twenty minutes?" I hope these words haunt the owners and they either do better or close their doors and I hope that poor old man and his wife find a good breakfast tomorrow. read more

First-time visit to this part of the country, and decided it was essential to try Lake Erie perch. I wasn't very hungry, but the very nice waiter suggested getting the perch sandwich instead of the platter. That turned out to be a great idea; I ignored the bun and ate the unadorned perch, which was the best way to enjoy the delicate flavor. I appreciated the fact that they didn't over-season the batter or use much salt. This fish could easily succumb to sauces and seasonings. Here's the truth: I said I wasn't hungry, but the full story is that I am a pie fanatic, and read this place has lots of pies. My favorite is cherry. It was not on the "Today's Pies" list. But it never hurts to ask. Turned out I was in luck. And, oh my, am I thankful I asked! Their's was one of the best I've had in my life. Once again, it was simple: the star of the show--tart cherries with just the right amount of sugar--didn't have to compete with any trickery or fancy crust. It's a lot like Rosie's (another great place) you walk in and seat yourself (still a thing I'm getting used to), the menu is huge! Interesting names too! Massive burgers, they don't skimp on the bacon, yummy fries (lacked salt thou). But just a sprinkle and boom shacklaka baby! Hubs has eggs, home fries, sausage (it had a name but I didn't catch it) and a side of sausage gravy and biscuit. (Needed salt) but was delicious for fri dipping. The coffee is good, not bitter at all, the orange juice tastes freshly squeezed. And then you pay upfront and on the way out check out the garden, my husband and I loved the frogs and dogs :-) Definitely top notch! read more

A hidden gem in Lorain if you're looking for a Lake Erie Perch dinner on a Friday. I love Lake Erie Perch, and have had it many place around the area and I am very particular about it. I still think this is the best in the area. Great, friendly staff and ample portions. You also get soup with your meal. I rarely do because I'm too full to eat it. Dessert (the pies) are wonderful. The place is a former Howard-Johsnon's restaurant with a Mom and Dad flavor (nothing fancy here). I've taken other people with me that have ordered other menu items - they are always more than pleased. read more

So the town is a little space when it comes to breakfast dinners. The place itself is old, but cool inside. The service is great. The coffee cups are a little small. So why a 3. Hay, 3 is A OK, which is what this place is. The pancakes were great, the corned beef hash is from a can, okay, but not homemade which is what I would expect. Eggs and bacon were cooked per order. Upside is you can order much and diner items in the AM as well. We did joy but table next to us did. So bottoms line, food was okay, service and price were great. Facility was funky but present. This is the last time I waist my time and money at this restaurant. Wife and I walk in and sit down, waited 10 minutes while two waitresses stood by the cash register BS ing. I had to yell is anybody working before we got any service. I had water and the wife had coffee that looked like it was two days old and cold. She ordered a steak well done fries and salad, she cut into the steak and it was bleeding. I had the breaded pork chops and mashed potatoes, of the two pork chops I ate three quarters of one because they were dry, tough and burnt. Twice before we had a bad experience but decided to give them another shot. Big Big mistake, food was a zero and the service wasn't any better. I knew the owner Chris before he passed away, we bowled together and Chris would never have accepted anything like we experienced. If he knew of this he'd be flipping in his grave. Had the best lake perch dinner that we have had in years! Also, the potato soup was amazing. A bigger dining room than would appear from the outside, so didn't have to wait, even on a Friday evening. They do close early in the evening, though, so keep that in mind. read more

We stopped on Super Bowl Sunday evening and enjoyed the delicious Chicken Paprikas and a burger with home fries and gravy. The service-super friendly, the music-perfect, the valentines decorations up and ready for a big food and love fest! Thanks to Chris and all the staff. read more

This type of place is a favorite of mine. An old time diner with good service, inexpensive and delicious food. Don't expect any thing fancy but do expect to pay little in comparison to chain places for food just as good if not better. The waitresses are friendly and will banter with you if you can play along. On trips back to my hometown of Amherst, Ohio we always make a plan to stop by for breakfast. I get the two eggs (over easy), hash browns, sausage patties with rye toast at the ridiculous price of $5.95. The eggs are always perfect with the yokes good for dipping but not snotty. You get a large potion of hash browns and the sausage patties are the biggest anyplace I've ever eaten. There is more meat that you get on a Big Mac. One review I read said that coffee is expensive for the size of the cup, but they will refill it for free for as long as you sit there and it is pretty tasty diner coffee. The regulars keep it packed early in the morning but by 8:30 am getting a table is not an issue. They always have fresh Lake Erie perch dinners and you owe it to yourself if you are visiting the area to try some of those beauties somewhere for lunch or dinner. Amazing breakfast spot that I've been coming to since I was a little kid. They have the best food and such a friendly staff. We came for breakfast and our food came out within 5 minutes of ordering it! I love love coming here and have the best memories eating here as a kid. We would always come to Chris' restaurant after church. They are always so busy and you know that's when it's really good. They've been open forever and I'm so happy I can come here when I visit my parents in Lorain. The inside is very clean and cozy. It hasn't changed in so many years and that's what I love about it. I had the veggie omelette with home fries and it was so good. You also can't beat the price. For my mom and I to have breakfast it was only $10! Everything is home made and fresh. It's like grandma's cooking. :) They also have specials certain days of the week that include chicken paprikash and cabbage rolls. Dining here this past weekend was like being in the Twilight Zone. We had a party of 4 for lunch. Arrived just before or just after 1pm. The online hours read that they are open until 7pm daily but closed on Monday's - there is another sign on the window that reads open Monday thru Saturday until 7pm but ZERO mention of Sunday hours. Yet after we were seated anyone that came in after us had "WE ARE CLOSED - WE CLOSE AT 2PM ON SUNDAYS" shouted at them. How is anyone to know that if everything else reads open until 7pm? So we ordered .. I ordered the veal parm special .. husband ordered the spaghetti/meatballs special .. sister ordered white meat chicken paprikash .. mom ordered the stuffed cabbage special. We were told the soup was chicken and rice despite the menu saying + the board where the specials are written that it is to be chicken noodle. OK - no issue - we all like chicken and rice .. UNTIL .. we ate or tried to eat their chicken and rice. It had eggs in it like found in egg drop soup or sometimes Italian wedding soup. It had such an off putting look that we all just pushed it aside. My mother ordered root beer to drink but kept getting Pepsi/Coke instead - which ended up being a blessing because when the waitress finally admitted her mistake she brought a root beer out and it was so sweet you could not drink it. Nearly 30 minutes later they let mom know that the stuffed cabbage was no longer available so she ordered the hot roast beef open faced sandwich. My meal and the veal parm came out when she was told her dish was no longer available. 10 minutes later my sister was told her chicken paprikash was no longer available so she opted for a BLT .. so while myself and husband waited until they got their food before we ate - being raised with good manners - our meals got cold. Mom was told the mashed potatoes were home made - nope .. they are instant. My sister got her BLT and the final kick in the teeth was it was dressed with Miracle Whip .. not mayo. The waitress blamed all of these things on other wait staff and also a cook that is "losing his mind" .. not once did she take ownership of her own mistakes and confusion. To throw your co workers under the bus like that is immature and unprofessional. She clearly noticed my mom and sister were both beyond irritated so she came over and said the manager that their meals would be free but they had to pay for their beverages? .. really? .. will NEVER be back. read more

This diner is in walking distance from where my boyfriend lives and well to prove my laziness we drove. The parking lot made us assume it was packed but once we got inside there were still a decent amount of places to sit. You grab your own menus and sit wherever you like. This is a true diner as the only computer system is to swipe credit cards. The servers write down everything and the kitchen uses an order wheel for all orders. I ordered the Country Skillet that included sausage, bacon, onions, hash browns, 2 eggs cooked to order and a lot of cheese (which I like) and 2 pieces of toast. It pretty much was a delicious mess plate! I don't know what kind of sausage they used but it was much better than the brown sausage links I am used to seeing in diners. My boyfriend ordered the Gyro Omelette. The weird thing about this omelette is that it only includes the gyro meat and feta. He had to ask for tomato, onion and cucumber sauce. It must have been good though because he ate the whole thing. The only thing diners should be cautious about when eating here is that the coffee was one of the worst that we have tasted and at $2 it's $2 a cup to boot. If I could give this place NO STARS, I would. Not one item in our meals was homemade or delicious. Far from it. My husband had the fish and chips and I had the country fried steak and mash potatoes. The fish was a generic version of Gortons and mine was done prefab frozen breaded patty. Potatoes were instant, canned corn, canned soup and on and on... They were out of staples and when the air conditioner dripped on us as we ate, that was it. All we got was a "oh yeah, the AC drips. Sorry. You can move if you like." Avoid at all costs. read more

My family has been coming here since 2013 when I bought a house a half a mile away. I knew Chris from his previous job as a tailor and knew him to be an exceptionally kind and nice human being. When my house was being fixed, we would sometimes come here 2-3 times a day. Never disappointed. Have had breakfast, lunch and dinner, too many times to count. LOVE the perch. Not over breaded, not over fried, perfect. Once or twice it had a fishy taste, but that is not their fault, it comes with the fish. Overall, the fish is EXCELLENT. Potatoes are tasty and portions are a good size, coffee is great, and service is friendly. My favorite go-to place for meals. It's a real home town , neighborhood restaurant and I love it. read more

Came to Chris restaurant from a out of town job. I was sceptical at first small parking lot but completely packed so I decided it give it a try the bathrooms where clean and smelled fresh day down and the waitresses was prompt at serving me I ordered the ribeye med rare, eggs over easy, toast and homefrys the good came out quickly the steak was perfect at med rare eggs turned out good I don't normally like home frys but these where seasoned well and I actually enjoyed them hope I make it back out that way will deffinatly be going back. Omg this place suck!!! I ordered breakfast this morning and it was worst I ever had . we went there over a year ago. We walked in the door and there were all these older people giving my husband the stink eye. He is a little darker complected than they were. We ignored it. We ordered food. It was adequate. HOWEVER......he ordered fish and chips and it was literally the same triangle shaped fish you get from the frozen boxes in the store. In short, there food was nothing to write home about and the service was mildly adequate. The atmosphere was uncomfortable. It's not cool to be stared at by bigoted ignorant people. They refuse to make an over medium egg. You get either over easy or well done. Sorry I don't want to consume raw egg whites or have a rubber Frisbee. I won't go there for breakfast because of it (my favorite meal). Chef is an ass. Their dinners and soups are amazing. The owner is a great guy always says hi and really knows how to make his customers feel welcome. His son-in-law cooks and doesn't listen (not a real chef). I love the owner but if he can't manage the son-in-law that's hurting his restaurant, I don't have to go there. I go for dinner. So glad they added the credit card machine. eggs ,sausages ,hashbrowns the greasier the better. Chris' has been there a long time. It has a wierd old diner smell. A mix of grease,mold and worn out everything. Havn't been since my friend had to fumigate bedbugs and roaches 50 feet away at the motel and rowhouse. read more
