The service was amazing because my stylist, Eli, went above and beyond to make sure I got the style i wanted. When I came in, I was still pretty unsure with what I wanted done so she gave me some input on what would be best for my hair type. The salon alone was so cute and lively as you can tell they are obviously popular (why wouldn't they be) and I just felt so comfortable there. A friend recommended this place so I gave it a shot and ended up with Karla as my stylist. She's so sweet and explains everything. She really took the time to look at my hair and understand the texture and what I want out of the cut and color. She was straightforward and let me know what would look good. Super friendly and open and very easy to talk to. She is a very talented stylist and my hair feels and looks fantastic. Very reasonable priced as well. I have been going to this salon for a while and my regular guy was out of town and referred me to "BRY" for a balayage. I have My Baby Girls college graduation next week once in a lifetime right so I wanted amazing hair for pics! Proud mama! Total disaster to say the least almost 6 hours later I wanted a balayage dark brown and blonde and sent her pictures for the inspiration. My hair is literally copper/ orange! My hair was dark orange and we ran back to the sink I was holding back the tears a grown woman yes knowing what was coming up in my life this amazing time for me and my daughter! After some back and forth and complete lack of accountability' and lack of transparency and professionalism form this person I left the chair at 8pm and original appt was at 1pm. I asked for a refund and she said no! . Wet hair and all I walked out after she said I see no brassy ness lol and said we can try to fix next week? What? After a lifetime of getting my hair done this was all a first for me. She has no idea what she's doing! Please beware! Go to an experienced stylist and an honest one who has some years on! I've done several different shades for my balayage with her and her work is flawless each time. Let me start off by saying the one star is for the aesthetic of the salon and how clean it is. I don't know how other stylists are but the stylist I went to did not do a good job. I went in to get highlights done since I found the hairstylist I liked on instagram and went in showing her some of her own work. Although I know nothing can be duplicated and everyone's hair is different, I thought it couldn't be that far off. I got to my appointment on time and waited around 10/15 minutes for my stylist, which I genuinely did not mind. She asked me what I wanted and I showed her the pictures of her own work and told her I would like a soft caramel color as my hair is very dark and almost black. After putting the dye/bleach in my hair, she asks me to go wait at this other table and she brings in a lady to cut her hair. Again, I like to think I'm pretty easy going and I still did not mind. But she was taking her time. I was waiting for a while... like a while, I have gotten my hair done multiple times before and I've never waited that long with bleach/dye in my hair. After she was done chit chatting with her client and cutting her hair she disappears again and comes back and washes my hair, tones it, and styles it. Nothing about the highlights were blended. And nothing about the highlights were caramel. It was giving Halloween orange. The money pieces at the front of were terrible too. But I still carried on but was noticeably unhappy. A few weeks after getting my hair done and washing my hair a few times the hair was literally a bright blonde. And all the highlighted pieces were completely fried!!! I paid about $300 just to get orange highlights, not even the slightest bit blended in my hair and to fry my hair. I don't know about the other stylists but I would not risk it and would rather go to a salon that has a well rounded group of hair stylists that will actually pay attention to you and care for their clients! He greeted us with a professionalism above most hair salons. He comes across very caring, and he is excellent at what he does. My mom wanted a certain hairstyle, which she showed Doug a picture of. Do your research and really confirm if the stylist you're going to knows what to do what you're asking for. I paid $350 for this "balayage" with Malina. Photo attached below is what I asked for. The manager was very nice at getting back to me, however the only option if a stylist ruins your hair is to go back to said stylist to "fix it". I just don't feel comfortable having someone try to "fix" my hair after leaving me with these harsh lines... this is not a $350 job. Nice girl but didn't even come close to giving me what I asked for.. my hair is so unblended. I will not be back. I love love love this salon. I've been seeing Iris for years! I used to see her at their other Brea location, which is much smaller. This newer location is amazing. It's in the same shopping center as Vons and while it has tons of parking, it can be difficult because there's lots of businesses nearby. Back to the salon, the decor is beautiful and welcoming. Obsessed with their flower arrangements and the famous anthropologie mirror (you'll know it when you see it). The ladies here are wonderful. There's always someone to welcome you at the front desk and there's a reason I've been seeing Iris for years. She listens to me about what I want to do with my hair and makes recommendations too. I value her opinion and trust her with my hair always! I haven't seen anyone else at this salon, but I bet they all live up to the same standards. I have known Diana for many years. I always knew of her talents because of course IG. The only reason it took me so long to have her get her magical hands on my hair is because I live in Los Angeles. The commute to her would be close to an hour. Once I did come to see her at the salon the mileage and time spent in traffic don't matter. I feel bad writing this review but I honestly feel conned or it's actually their price and quality. I came in for what i thought was simple. Touch up my roots to cover my grays and put a couple pieces of highlights to lighten my hair. I was charged 450$ and 50$ for a haircut. After I did it, I thought it looked nice. The staff there is nice. Don't get me wrong. My gray coverup was barley anything. Maybe a few pieces on top not even my crown was covered. The high lights barley anything and my hair cut was a quarter of a trim so whatever they want to charge 50$ for that. After a few washes the toner washed out and the color is dull: just feel taken advantage of with that pricing and quality of work. Went to someone else to fix it and didn't tell them I just had my hair done and they were telling me how much needed to fix for the same thing I was asking for. And they used alot more product and charged half. Just really disappointed and wasted alot of $$ I don't have to just throw out. Would not recommend. read more

I followed Doug to the Nest, I love the salon! Its so bright and friendly. Doug is a master with color, especially balayage. My hair has been in his hands since summer of 2019 when I first visited him with uneven dye and very damaged hair by a previous stylist. After the very first visit, he was able to balance the color and restore luster to my hair. Years later, I visit every 4 weeks to cover my grey roots and a trim. I've been to the Painted Nest Studio so this was my first time to their new second location. I've followed Jessica since she was at The Grand and to both her new studios. It's been 4 years since my last balayage due to multiple years of perming. Finally needed some color and decided to take the plunge and hope my hair can handle the stress. So glad I did!! I have been going to Doug since 2022 and I can't rave about him enough! He has transformed my hair from my natural dark, to blonde highlights, to blonde, to red/violet. I get so many compliments every time I walk out of his chair. He is my go-to hair person for all my needs. He's amazing and he's such a sweetheart. I experienced a few bad haircuts with a former stylist that left me with my hair in a claw-clip for a couple months and then along came Doug to fix me up and make me feel beautiful again. I have been to The Nest twice in the span of a year. My first time there I went for a trim and the second time I went for dye job! Both times were 100% worth it. During my most recent visit, I had the great pleasure of having Taylor as my hair stylist! I came in wanting a specific color that was completely different from my natural hair color and instead of pushing through to do what I wanted, Taylor took the time to explain to me what was really best for my hair. Which I really appreciate and actually, would much prefer. It shows the type of person Taylor is, honest!! And I would much rather choose someone who is honest to do my hair than someone who just cares about the money. I had such a great time getting my hair done with Taylor, it felt like I was with one of my best girlfriends The end result of my hair was HEALTHY, changed with color and full of life. All in all, everything I could have asked for and more! I'm going back next month to cut some major inches from my hair and to add in some balayage. Throughout the process of figuring out what will work for my hair (because it's thick) I've been reaching out to Taylor on IG (@tayzhairjournal) and she's been graciously taking the time to answer all my questions!! I walked in the salon on 7/10 to inquire on services and possible appointment. I stood at the counter for about 5min. When no one came to greet me I sat down for another 5min , still no one came to greet me. I then stood up at the counter again and waited about 3 me before a lady walked up to ask if I had an appointment. I will say the shop didn't appear to hair a receptionist, either way , a few of the stylists looked my way and said nothing. I expressed to the lady that I needed my hair done as soon as possible. The lady was very helpful and ended up setting me up an appointment with a stylist named Daeja, for 7/12 @8am. The following day I received a text from the stylist ( Daeja) requesting a picture of my current hair and inspo's on what I'm looking for. I sent this lady several picture of what I thought were ombre's that were in the same family. The text conversation lasted an hours of her asking multiple questions and wanting me to give detailed descriptions. I told her I did not know how to quite explain what I wanted or use the lingo she was using as I am not a stylist. However, I sent several pictures of what I like. She kept using all these terms I had no idea what she meant. And after all of the picture she asked me to send of myself and inspos, She tells me we're not a good fit. Forget the fact that I took off work to get my hair done and that I am going to my best friend's funeral the day after my appointment date. Needless to say, we talked for an hour , she had 100 questions for me just to say we're not a good fit and then cancel my appointment. I am very disappointed to say the least. read more

I'm so so SO grateful for Michi. I'm not kidding when I say she's my (hair) savior. She did an amazing job with my hair and was so accommodating with me even with her busy schedule. I ended up being one of those brides freaking out about my hair at the very last minute. Ladies, don't be like me. I was trying to save money by trying out another stylist (not Michi) who I go to often for hair cuts, but I've never gotten my hair colored with her before. I figured couldn't hurt to give her a chance. Bad idea! Definitely should've gone to a color specialist like Michi from the start, would've saved me a lot of money from bad hair appointments. 2 weeks before my wedding, during my first appointment with the other stylist, I asked for her to tone my blonde balayage to a more chocolate brown. She toned me way too dark, my hair looked black and it didn't look like it blended well. I could tell it wasn't going to wash out or fade when I tried washing my hair at home. I asked if she could fix and lighten it the next week, hoping it would be closer to what I want. My hair ended up being RED. At this point, I only had 1 week left till my wedding, and the last thing I wanted was to be stressed out about my hair. I previously texted Michi a few weeks back when I was considering trying out a new stylist for my wedding hair. But silly me, I didn't end up making an appointment at that time because I thought I could save money by going to another stylist. When I texted Michi this time with my hair emergency, she was quick to respond which I really appreciated. I didn't expect much since I know I reaching out to her to ask for an appointment within 4 days is tough. Any reputable stylist would be all booked weeks or months in advance. When I texted another stylist I've gone to before multiple times for coloring/balayage, she couldn't accommodate me. Michi on the other hand, was so nice to help me out even though I was a completely new client to her. She took me as an early morning (7am) appointment the day before my wedding! Needless to say, I felt SO much better about my hair after Michi worked on it. Exactly what I wanted and made me feel so beautiful. After my go-to hair stylist quit doing hair due to COVID, I've been looking for someone who I enjoyed going to. I will definitely be going to Michi for all my hair needs from now on. She's convinced me to be a lifetime client, or for as long as she continues to do hair. Her pricing is also super reasonable for the quality of work she does on your hair. And she's also super nice, easy going, and easy to talk to. I've found that to be a weirdly important thing when you're sitting in someone's chair for sometimes 3+ hours. After much thought and consideration, This was my second time here and last. This was my personal experience. Pj was my hair stylist . I asked for a trim & NOT many short layers to the front of my face, only long layers to elongate my face and frame it. She was dismissive and the whole process seemed very rushed . My forehead was hit multiple times with the hairdryer as she was drying my hair . I get being heavy handed but this is not ok. I ended up with choppy layers & a mushroom head top which leads to a mullet resemblance. For $75 ....this is unacceptable.
