8am visit on a Saturday. They have cute sage colored decor. Service was fast and efficient. We had Lucy and she kept the coffee full and hot. 10/10 Partner had corned beef hash. 3/5 He said it seemed thin sliced and not pulled, his preference. I had sweet tooth pancakes, because who doesn't want ice cream for breakfast? 100/10 Perfect portion sizes and fluffy pancakes. We will be back. read more

The atmosphere here is neat. The outer wall is curved, which creates a fun environment. A combination of wood and brick meets modern. There is a warm feeling to the place. They were out of it seemed like everything. I tried ordering the Crab Cakes Breakfast and they were out. So I tried my backup, the French Toast Puffs. Nope, out of that too. Annoyed at that point I just ordered scrambled eggs, Canadian Bacon, and Toast ($13). Here too there were issues. They were out of a bunch of types of toast. So I got an English muffin. The meal was fine. Technically there was nothing wrong with it. I did enjoy the Canadian Bacon. The eggs and English muffin were just a little blah. Especially for the price. The person I was with ordered the Greek Omelette ($11) and like it a lot. The service was good and apologetic about being out of everything. Overall a 3 1/2 star review. Since I have to round I just can't give a 4 so It rounds to a 3 star review. Would I return? Maybe, I'm sure they deserve a 2nd try. Basically, buyer beware. read more

Tried out a new place near our home and we were pleasantly surprised. The space is light and bright with an adjoining cafe. My daughter was happy they had croissants and my hubby was happy they had a birria breakfast burrito. I ordered the avocado toast and it was tasty and filling without that over full feeling. I appreciate the range on the menu. They also have a kids menu. The flavors were good. I think this might become our go to place for breakfast! read more

What an adorable, clean, fresh food cafe! The service was amazing! My branded coffee cup looked like a special ordered hand made mug and was so cute! Not gonna lie I was a little worried it wouldn't fill my coffee needs but alas! The server was so attentive my cup never went below half! Hot coffee the entire meal for the win! The attention to detail was noticeable. Including the immaculate restroom. Love that! The owner Antonio came by to check on us. Cool guy. The food tho? Perfection. I had the banana walnut pancakes. I didn't even add butter! They didn't need it! So yummy! My husband ate the corned beef hash. I had a bite. The hash was perfect! Crispy on the outside and potato goodness on the inside. Great food, the perfect brunch place if you're near GVSU. The ambiance was perfect . I had the greek omelette and oh my was it tasty . The strawberry cheesecake pancakes were amazing ! The service outstanding. This was my 1st time at Nest egg I would say it was overall a very good breakfast. The only downside was a 15-20 minute wait, but good things are worth waiting for! Absolutely love the updates since it was the former Coney Island! This was our 3rd visit and the 2nd time I've got the Western Omelette with hash browns and raisin toast. Don't know what happened but my food was literally swimming in grease, undercooked hash browns and toast was cold and barely toasted. Our waiter did make me another order of potatoes, just as greasy. I'll maybe give them another try as there aren't many breakfast places to choose from here, but another bad experience and I'll be done. read more

The food was good for the cost, nothing special. Our total was much less than expected for two. Service was great. However, the lighting in the restaurant is awful. There are far too many harsh white lights for the size of the restaurant. I never thought I would complain about the lighting in a restaurant but this one should be addressed. Some softer lighting could really help improve the ambiance of the restaurant. I found it was difficult to read the menu with the lighting, giving me somewhat of a headache to be completely honest. But again a great value for the cost if lighting is not bothersome to you. I really hope this review is helpful to others as well as the business. read more

The waitress was not attentive. I refilled our coffee twice by myself. Three of us ordered fried eggs medium well and they were so runny they bordered on raw. All of our food was cold when served. We suffered through it because the waitress did not come back until we were nearly done. She said, how were the first few bites? Really! First few bites! You should have asked that ten minutes ago. The place was SUPER cute!!! It's newer, but there was a lot of people there. The food was all decent, the sausage patties were pretty dry, though. Our server was AMAZING! It's the first week of full service. The wait was about 20 minutes at noon. Not too bad. The menu looked great!! Tons of French toast and pancake options too. I had the loaded hash browns with eggs on top and added hollandaise sauce when I found out it was gluten free. My hubby had the loaded oatmeal. Both were very good. We will be back. read more

Amazing food! This was my third time here so we tried different menu items. My husband had The Balkan (avocado toast w egg, sliced tomatoes, feta cheese, onion, & balsamic drizzle.) Wonderful flavor and presentation!! I had the Allendale omelet (bacon, ham, sausage & cheddar.) Yummy! Talked w one of the friendly owners today and learned that they go out of their way to get the tastiest local ingredients possible. He described their search for a local vendor with the healthiest, tastiest eggs. Good thing we live close, so we can come often and work our way through more of their delicious menu! read more

Love the new modern feel to it! It's exactly how I would want to set up my own restaurant. Food was good, berries were very fresh on my husband and son's pancakes. Waitress was a little on the slow side but she was very polite. The environment, service and food were great but I was a bit disappointed by a couple of things. The first thing was when the waiter was taking our order, they questioned each of our choices from the menu and asked if we would rather have similar but more expensive dishes instead...a bit awkward. The second thing was the when the food arrived and one of the dishes didn't include the fresh pico de gallo as stated on the menu and instead included premade salsa. I asked the waiter about it and they said they don't actually serve pico at all...not too happy about that either since they knowingly are misleading the customer. Would we go back? Yes. Could they improve their service and fix their menu? Yes. read more

The space has been transformed since Coney Island. Light and bright. I had high hopes this would be the local answer to Anna's House (family gets the breakfast they want and I get my "fancy" coffee). Well, apparently their machine was broken (already?) so drip coffee it was. Complete with grounds floating in it, half and half, and sugar... maybe they had sugar substitutes, which I would've preferred, but I didn't ask. The server was quick to point out about 5 things on the menu they didn't have, which was disappointing, but alas life goes on. The food we did order was good and came out quickly. I do hope they get their coffee/menu situated. If they aren't going to have the nice coffee drinks... flavored creamers and sugar substitutes (easily accessed) would be appreciated by this coffee snob. read more

The service was friendly, but we were never offered refills. The chairs at the bar height were a bit uncomfortable, so we definitely didn't linger, I'll ask for a table next time. read more

Went yesterday for breakfast-cheerfully greeted & seated by staff. The restaurant is beautiful & meticulously clean. Varied menu -something for everyone. Had the Birria burrito -amazing flavors. We go out to breakfast every Saturday and most Fridays--I work third shift and after taking care of patients all night I really look forward to good coffee and a hot breakfast! After living in Allendale for a couple months we decided to try the Nest Egg Cafe for the first time this weekend. We ordered the birria burrito and the Nutella waffle with strawberries on the recommendation of our waitress, Emma. She was helpful and friendly. Our food came out pretty quickly and it was decent. Nothing was outstanding or something we were really excited to return for, but we typically try a place two or three times barring anything really off-putting. The waffle was a touch underdone and the burrito's tortilla wasn't grilled long enough so it completely fell apart when eating it. The restaurant was pretty loud, but we were able to have a conversation. At that point we would have given 4 stars. After we had eaten, we were wrapping up and finishing our drinks when a girl, who wasn't our waitress, walked over and very loudly and rudely told us that they have a corner in the restaurant that we could move to if we wanted to keep talking or, with a very exasperated and rushed tone, said "just stay here;" however it was very clear we were not welcome to stay at the table. It was incredibly embarrassing and drew the eyes of the surrounding tables who had gone quiet with the tangible discomfort from our scolding. We've never been ones to hold up others from getting seated and try to be cognizant of the waiting area, because of where we were sitting, we couldn't see if anyone was waiting. I certainly understand the need to encourage people to finish so additional parties can be seated, but as any mom will tell you, it's 10% what you say and 90% how you say it. We would have been responsive to a request to finish so another party could be seated, and the rudeness achieved the same result, but lost any chance of repeat customers. TLDR: Food was mid, food service was pretty on top of it, but rude pushiness from the assistant manager or whoever she was ensured we won't return. read more

This was my first time eating breakfast at the Nest Egg Cafe and it was wonderful. I loved the food and the coffee is great. The service was quick and friendly and the server was knowledgeable. One of the owners came out and spoke with our table and he was very personable. The restaurant is open and airy and bright and clean.
