Rain storm came through. Looks like run off from a construction site above the park.

I have been to this park several times now, it seems across each of the seasons. It's a smallish parking lot which generally has been adequate for most of the times that I have been there but is crowded to full in the weekends in the summer as many people park here to use the boat ramp for floating down the river. This week, however, was the first time that I ran across a bus and truck hauling in people and boats from the local canoe livery. The main trail out of the parking lot runs along the edge of the river before branching out to several different loops further downstream. I have hiked each of the loops and generally found them pleasant, although some sections are a little overgrown and the summit loop is pretty steep. But the trails in general are well maintained and frequented by walkers and runners alike. You can easily make hikes/runs here of 5 miles or more with minimal overlap, if you want. My only real complaint, other than the full parking lot on summer weekends which you can defeat by getting there early in the morning, is the construction and other sounds (e.g. grass cutting) from the newish housing development up the hill from the park. But, although it currently is on the edge of Dayton, it is a metro park and I am grateful that they have preserved what they have. Not everyone community and small city was as smart about this.

This trail has a ton of options. Besides the fact that you can actually put your canoe in the water here. We met a ton of great people on this trail today... And their pets. Five stars all day long.

A pretty overlooked park in Beavercreek. It looks like it's pretty new. There was a lot of construction going on. It has several entrances. The main one has a good view. I stumbled across this so I took a look. It's located along the Great Miami River near Beavercreek. The main entrance has a parking lot. It's not big but there's plenty of spots available. The parking lot may be a tight fit to move around though. It's not as big as some other metroparks. It's still nice. This is also not as popular so you can enjoy it to yourself.

The zip line is popular. With dad's lining up to make kids go faster if they ask to. Many shaded areas for parents to be within running distance if something happens. Everyone is very cordial and looking out for the other little ones. I hope my little ones will have lost interest shortly before they become parents.

Probably the most unique thing is what my husband calls the zip line. I've frequently found the handle bar you hang from and whiz across a level bar about 7 ft. Long. This is a similar idea. But instead of a handle bar, there is a long pole with a circular seat at the bottom. This seat hangs about a foot and a half from the ground. Depending on height, size, age, ability you can decide to either sit or stand on this seat. My two year old boy sat on it with no problem. But considering my large belly getting in the way, I decided to stand. Anyway, this thing is twice as long as any other I've seen! And it's like a very wide "V" shape. So it gives to momentum in the first half to make it back up through the second. So fun!! Other unique attractions include a SUPER long slide (not actually very steep, but at the top of a hill and quite long - some families bring paper to sit on in order to slide faster), statues of large turtles and one of those large disc swings. Such a fun place! I take my boy here when we're in the area.

I went down the stone stairs ... they were slippery but was glad i still could manage them. They have changed things ... added wooden pathways and more water at the bottom of the stairs. I'd hoped walk to both waterfalls. But wearing new shoes and saw it was muddy. So just headed back up the stairs to the car. They have bird feeders at the buildings. Nice place to hike. I'd never been here but the lovely Mrs went to camp here with her 8th grade class back in the 80's. I'd never been so was kind of curious about it as I was under the impression that it's just a park where kids could learn about nature and all its magic. What I found out is that it is an incredible wandering path. Lots of things to see like waterfalls, rock formations and even a path where you get from one side to the other by stepping from stone to stone. Lots of folks, lots of pets, big and small. The education center had a park employee out there with a bigger falcon, then a smaller falcon and then the gorgeous barn owl. The folks inside the education center were incredibly helpful and knew a ton about the inhabitants of the 'enclosures'. My favorite was the teeny tiny Megatron who's the smallest and cutest owl I've ever seen. Park isn't marked very well. They suggest you download the digital map from the QR code as you walk toward the very nice restroom facility. This is very nice but... the signs(pieces of paper with numbers written on them) with the corresponding numbers from the map are either missing, blurred due to water or faded from the sun. I'm hoping one of the Boy Scouts we saw while here takes it upon themselves to start their petition to create more permanent signs for their 'Eagle' comprehensive service project. There were so many times we were like...where are we. Plenty of trash to pick up so if you're like me, bring a small grocery bag and leave it better than you came. Thank you to the nice couple with the long haired dachshund who climbed the rocky pylon to help me get the cup that had been left there. It makes me happy that there are people still out there willing to help me with such simple but worthwhile side projects.
