During a recent trip to Dayton to see the National Airforce Museum, we needed a place to rest and relax the following day and the Wegerzyn Gardens was perfect. This park was stunning and very well maintained and manicured. There are ten formal gardens, a boardwalk through a wetlands area, a nature trail, a children's discovery garden, a splash pad and so much more. Throughout the gardens are benches and places to rest. There are photo-ops galore and it is a perfect place for wedding, senior year, or other photo shoots! There is ample parking and admission is free. Treat your senses, unplug and visit. Following a whirl wind albeit phenomenal tour of the National Airforce Museum in Dayton, OH; we decided the next day to 'dial it back' and do a leisurely stroll of Wegerzyn Gardens, a part of the Dayton Metroparks system. This well-maintained and manicured hidden gen features a plethora of flowering plants and shrubs. There are plenty of places to rest and simply chill taking in the 'zenfulless' of this place. It features several pathways that stimulate the senses (smell and visual); courtyards, tree-lined expanses; courtyards that would be a perfect wedding backdrop, and even a children's discovery area, Quite an ethereal experience. There is so much to see at Wegerzyn Gardens, plan to spend a couple hours here. We went in early July when the plant and animal life were just thriving. It was one of the most beautiful places. There are also TONS of bees so be careful if you're allergic. Best secret in Dayton!!! We frequented the splash pad when my daughter was little. The park is free and a great location for a day trip with a preschooler. There is a sensory garden and paths that are easy to navigate. Highly recommended!! read more

First visited this beautiful Metro Park YEARS ago, during a yearly arts and crafts fair held there (not sure if it's still ongoing, but it was a GREAT event!!) Dayton has quite a few WONDERFUL metro parks, and this one is no exception!! We were in and out pretty quickly, due the the CRAZY heat, but even slight past their "prime," the flower gardens here are AWESOME, well-taken care of, and so relaxing to wander. The one trail we took was still not completely recovered from what I'm assuming was some pretty heavy tornado damage. More trails yet to be discovered when/if cooler weather arrives, plus a visitor center, which seems interesting also, but with (covid) limited hours. DEFINITELY worth a visit... A true JEWEL in Dayton's Metro Park crown!! read more

to be honest i came to check out the owls .. the last time i went i could see the baby was getting his feathers and not just fluffy. but the tree was empty .. that was disappointing.. i had me handicapped dog with me and her stroller. Wegerzyn is a gorgeous metropark in Dayton. It's really easy to walk around, and the park is well-maintained. We went during the winter so there weren't a lot of flowers around, but are looking forward to coming back in the spring or summer. They have closed off the Children's Discovery area (likely due to COVID) but otherwise the entire rest of the park is beautiful and open! read more

This Dayton treasure might just have you thinking that you are strolling through a wealthy European country estate. The formal gardens are a photographer's dream with their wide manicured vistas, lush foliage, raised flower beds and walkways that encourage you to wander around to see what's around each and every corner. The formal gardens showcase three themes: the English, the Victorian and the Federal styles of gardens and they would fit into any estate with ease. The forest habitat with its canopy of trees is a wonderful piece of nature. Take the boardwalk into the woods, grab a seat on the bench and let the rustle of the trees take away any stress or cares you may have brought in with you. If you are more into getting into nature, the dirt pathway winds through for a mini hike in the woods. Did you bring the kids? Well cool as there's something special for them here too. The Children's Discovery Gardens. Bring their swimming trunks and let them enjoy the free mini water park with it's 2 acres of color and cuteness for the pre-teen set. The limestone grotto, waterfall, music maze, sensory garden and pond are more than enough to keep them busy for an afternoon. This Dayton treasure has all the things I've mentioned plus all the standards you'd find in most any metro park like plenty of woods, prairie land, creek side trails and wetlands. Wegerzyn Gardens is another one of those reasons why I head over to Dayton so often. It's beautiful, simply beautiful and I'm looking forward to checking it out during each and every season. Oh my goodness! I can't wait to go back with my little boy now that the children's garden is open because it looks amazing. We biked here from Island park about a month ago. We stopped here because it looks so inviting. There's a theatre here, so that's fun. I'll have to do a little research to learn more about their season. But it would obviously provide for a lovely date night. The garden here is large, open and is planned out beautifully. You can also walk a wonderful little bridge/path over the water. Now my husband did get to return to the children's garden with our boy and the pictures he sent me are fantastic! Hidden gem! (Or maybe not so hidden? But I'd like to think I discovered this place randomly) Beautiful garden that's very well-maintained. I really enjoyed this pace. I'm in town for some training and was researching places to go run and this place popped up. The site is tucked away and I missed it on my first drive by but turned around and found a place to park. Got out my headphones with my jams playing and took out. Very clean, quiet and lots of trails not to mention beautiful foliage. Families were having picnics and teenagers taking school photons, it's very tranquil. The next time you find yourself in the area, certainly get out and explore this gem of a garden. This garden is perfect for a summer afternoon stroll. The flowers are in full bloom and the garden turns into what we will call a magical place. It certainly offers the most picturesque backdrop. The garden is surrounded by the Stillwater River Trail. The Stillwater River Trail provides cyclist, runners, and walkers tranquil and diverse terrain. The Park features the Stillwater Trail, Formal Gardens, a Children's Discovery Garden, a Giant Pedestal Oak, Marie Aull Nature Trail, the Swamp Forest, and Community Gardens. Wegerzyn Gardens is beautiful and packed with fun and offers the perfect family time. My children and I ran around the open gardens and took tons of cool pictures while having fun. They also loved the Children's Discovery Garden. It features a small waterfall, pond, sand boxes, and other interactive exhibits. My family and I had a blast visiting Wergerzyn Gardens. I was amazed that such a touch of heaven existed smack dab in the middle of a city! My daughter married her wife here last month and it was BEAUTIFUL! Such established gardens and architectural beauty. It was a gorgeous backdrop to celebrate their love and for the wonderful photos that ensued! On "non-wedding " days this is a great place to take a stroll with or without the kids. An educational and interactive setting for the kiddos as well. A wonderful place to experience. Came looking for some hiking trails and found them. several mile to three mile paths that are paved and dirt under shade canopy. A few vegetation information kiosks are along the paths on the trees and shrubs. There is a very ornate and well manicured garden that is Victorian in design with many walking paths, sit down tables and benches. Excellent for a casual stroll. There is a community garden at the north end and model plane air strip here too. The visitors center is not much at all for the drop in visit but, seems mainly for school programs and groups. Picnic grounds are slim but they do exist. read more

What a great surprise! This is a beautiful park that is keep in great condition. For the area around it I was surprised at how nice the park was. I can't speak much for the entire park but I will say the gardens are fantastic place to not only walk around but also for pictures. We had our maternity pictures taken here and loved how they turned out. I definitely think this is a must visit for those living in Dayton or even visiting. The gardens are beautiful and so different from one another. There are plenty of benches and chairs to just sit down and relax or read. It was amazing to walk thru the mid western woods trail and suddenly come out to a tropical looking garden or a formal English garden. Bring your children, bring a book, bring your camera, wear comfortable shoes, and enjoy a lovely day in the gardens. I would go even if it's not a lovely day. I had no idea such a gorgeous park existed in Dayton until we visited Wegerzyn Gardens this weekend! AMAZING. The grounds were incredibly clean with no trash or graffiti to be found and there were tons of benches and tables so plenty of room for everybody. The garden sculptures were awesome and the flowers and tulips were so abundant and beautiful right now at the beginning of Spring. It was a beautiful sight on our first warm sunny day of the year so it was a great experience! Walking on the boardwalk was fun and I loved the walking trails through the woods. You can tell they REALLY take care of this park. I can't stress enough how superbly clean and gorgeous Wegerzyn is, and we'll definitely be going back again very soon! read more

Beautiful park. We came years ago and enjoyed it, and returned today with our six kids. Unfortunately, our visit was marred by three park employees in the splash area. Though our kids were following the posted rules and playing safely, the employees got after them several times for what seemed to be invented reasons. At one point, some of them were told they were too old to play there (my oldest ones are 11 and 13) though the employees didn't ask their ages and there are no posted age restrictions. We likely won't be returning. Again, my rating is from our experience at the splash area. The rest of the park is wonderful... just maybe not for young kids. read more

It's kind of a cool place to walk your dog. Yes, you can walk your dog there. The gardens consist of a few interlocking sidewalks and flower beds. There's also a walking bridge over untroubled water, which is my favorite. read more

We took our kids (ages 6, 4, and 2) to Wegerzyn Gardens for the first time today. Despite being at relatively different stages, all three had a great time and found things they loved! The children's discovery garden is very engaging for kids of all ages. We all had a good time playing in the musical section, and the kids adored the sand tables! And finding fossils in a giant rock is very occupying for a six-year-old boy. Our oldest also enjoyed going out into the larger gardens with me (while the other two were content to stick with the sand and their dad). He and I both loved how quiet it was, and all of the different plants and habitats. We will definitely be going back many times this summer and in other seasons, as well! read more

Beautiful, lush space. We love to walk on the short wooded trail (although 2019 tornadoes have made it a little less beautiful out there) as well as the gardens. The foot bridges are fun for kids and the gardens have some really incredible spaces. Our favorites include near the fountain and the kids play space when it's open. This garden park is absolutely gorgeous! My fiancée and I are getting married here next month and I just can't get over how beautiful it is! There's (I believe ) 9 wedding gardens all available to get married in! They've got a childrens garden park that has a pond and small chairs and lots of things for them to do. Sites are cheap 250.00/6 hours and only you can get married that day! Awesome place for pictures and just tons of fun!!! read more

This place does not seem to have great upkeep. The kids garden was very dirty and so was the pond inside it. The rest of the garden had mainly leaves and weeds. Maybe we went at a bad time. But there was a ton of people out in formal attire and photographers. They were pushing the others out of the way and taking over the few spots that looked nice so the kids could not even enjoy. read more

This is a beautiful park with a creek, many walkways, a parking lot and a recreation center. I was here for the Wright State University AIDS Walk and though a crisp, chilly morning, we completed our 5K walk without any qualms around the park in gorgeous sunlight. The trees were beautiful but didn't block the sun, thankfully. Like most parks, it is a great place to play with friends, children and anyone else who'll play with you; it is also nice park for a walk or run. I bet it is a even prettier in the summer. It doesn't seem to get crowded, which is also nice, since that is something a New Yorker and Delhiite like me is not used to. read more
