Ask the Community - The Mobile Car Clinic

Can you install a keyless entry for a 2011 Kia Rio? It’s not an addition key, it’s going from manual to keyless entry. Can we do this through email as I’m hoping to do this for a Christmas present and I don’t want him to hear us talk?

Good morning, Maridel This is Bob. I believe the answer to that is yes, we can add another key fob to yor keyless entry system. Give me a call at 4086613034, so we may make an appointment.

How much does a smog check cost?

If you are debating whether to go to them...stop thinking and just GO. I needed brakes on a 2015…read morePrius. The amount was roughly $1,200. I said I couldn't afford it. I asked if I could do one set on that day (the rear) and the remaining set (front) in two weeks. The woman, Cindy, said sure! So I had them done. Then I came back two weeks later and had the front taken care of. Now here is what I experienced while waiting for the work to be done. I had my blind dog with me on both visits. First of all, it is the nicest, most accommodating seating / waiting area. There is a choice of comfortable bench seating by a window, barstool seating, and armchair seating. There are comic books on the center table. There is a coffee and snack station and tasteful art and information on the wall. It was clean, and honestly, relaxing. Whoever did their interior design did a stellar job. There is even a bulletin board where local services are posted and Cindy mentioned that if I had anything to post there that I was welcomed to put it up there as well. Now, back to the brakes. My poor car, has taken me to so many destinations. It literally has taken me on the road travelling, it has been my backup 'hotel', it has been my lunchroom between workday shifts, it has taken me to Los Angeles and handled the bumper to bumper traffic like a champ, and it has been my refuge for the occasional meditation session. Our cars go through so much don't they? Well, the new brakes work...so far no issues as far as I can tell. I don't have to press the brake down as much which is nice. There is no 'slipping' of the brake, it's smooth and is responsive to my foot. The mechanic was kind enough to show me some future fixes recommended. There was zero pressure to have anything additional done on that day which is a relief. The manager, Cindy, is professional...patiently listening to any questions that I had and was able to answer any of the doubts I had about the service. There was only one minor hiccup. I live in a very small space where storage is next to nothing. I have some items in my car trunk area. Apparently, when the brakes were getting tested, during one of the brakings, the back seats opened forward and my personal things were showing through. The mechanic that was doing the testing left them that way exposing my personal stuff. I got upset because that stuff is back there so its not obvious that I have it there. The seats have to be snapped in ....and for that to loosen takes some effort so I was upset because I thought it was intentionally done, although I wouldn't know why. So I called and spoke with Cindy and she listened patiently and even spoke with the mechanic who said he apologized for that happening. I had said that the seats should have been placed back in their position. Anyhow, I wanted to move past that and chalk it up as one of those anomalies that happens however puzzling it may have been. My ex-husband was a mechanic as well and I learned to be cautious is all from our experience having owned an automotive servicing business. So, overall, it was resolved and I felt better and Cindy was awesome and the brakes work and that's done. Long story short, do I recommend them???? So far, Yes! I will be going back for some additional work shocks/springs in a few months time. There was nothing sketchy about them, the pricing...well, it seemed a little steep to me but that seems to be the trend now-a-days anyways so may as well pay for the great service, the great waiting area, the wonderful mechanic communication, the up front pricing and the flexible work arrangements. Service Requested...Done. Value...I think it's good....Quality...Good. Cindy was top notch! Thank you.

This was first visit to CARS and they did not disappoint…read more Michelle the General Manager was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. I was a last-minute walk-in, 30 minutes before closing time, and she and her team made the time to take care of my car before closing. I discovered they specialize in bodywork, mechanical, restorations, classics, muscle cars, imports, etc. there's literally nothing they don't do well. I'm new to the area and I've had to tough time finding my new go-to local mechanic shop that rivals over-inflated dealer parts and labor prices. They're located in Salinas, and absolutely worth the trip.

I came to CARS recently after another shop told me my car needed a repair costing around $4,800…read more Before spending that kind of money, I wanted to understand exactly what was wrong with my car and why such an expensive repair was necessary. Unfortunately, the other shop gave me very few answers. I paid $305 for the diagnosis, but the report I received from the other shop was extremely basic. They also didn't give me a list of the parts that needed to be replaced, a breakdown of the labor costs, or much of an explanation of how they came to the conclusion that I needed a $4,800 repair. When I asked for more information, they were irritated with me and very dismissive. When I went to CARS, the experience was completely different. Michelle, the Office Manager, has been wonderful. She is extremely knowledgeable about automotive repairs, but more importantly, she knows how to explain things in a way that makes sense to someone who isn't a mechanic. She genuinely wants her customers to understand what's going on with their vehicle and feel comfortable with their options. I never felt rushed, talked down to, or pressured. At CARS, asking questions is welcomed, and you're treated with patience and respect. I'm extremely grateful to Michelle and CARS for their patience, kindness, and willingness to help. It's refreshing to find a repair shop that makes you feel like an informed and respected customer, rather than just another opportunity to make money!
