Luis replaced motor mounts that where low quality and they shake horribly and he missed the transmission mount. He took and switched my MAP sensor and assembly because I have a different assembly with missing bolt to air filter case. Also replaced a sensor with a cheap one and it failed after 2 miles. Big mistake not reading the reviews. I needed a shop to vacuum and refil my AC with the proper equipment and all this guy used was a can of refrigerant to refill my system. I replaced some ac parts and was completely empty of refrigerant. The proper way was to purge the system of the old contaminated moisture/air - before refilling, which he didnt do. I was there and witnessed the whole thing. I brought this up and he was a bit annoyed and said he had 20 years experience. I absolutely do not recommend this guy for any type of work. I could have done this myself for less than 30$ instead of paying 190$! Who knows what other services he's overselling and not doing the proper work on. All the good reviews about Luis Auto Repair are TRUE! on 9/25/18 my wife's car broke down on 101 in Salinas. I checked Yelp and Luis Auto Repair was highly recommended Our car was towed there and they were fantastic. She was back on the road and home by the end of the day. They were polite, fair, did a great job and the price was reasonable. It was an alternator that died and Luis fixed it and then had to do a lot of extra work to get the complicated aftermarket car alarm to operate properly. He called in two different specialists to solve the problem and got it straightened out and did at a very minimal charge with minimal extra time involved. Even the two truck driver knew about Luis Auto Repair and said this was a reputable place. He did say that don't leave valuables in your car there overnight. Please note my previous review. Back in 2014, I was living in Southern California. Back then I didn't have plans to live in the greater Salinas area. Well that changed the following year. We attempted to find a reputable auto repair shop in our town. None worked out. We decided that Salinas is close enough. We returned to Luis Auto Repair on several occasions. Every time the service was excellent. Today, we picked up our Ford. While this vehicle passed smog in 2015, it never ran very well. Lately, the situation got worse, and it had intermittent misfires. It would operate OK sometimes and sometimes it ran like crap. Of course the check engine light came on. I have my own code reader, and all it said was misfires. DAH, I already knew that. This entailed IMO, having an evaluation by an expert automobile diagnostician. Luis said, don't worry. Well he came through again. The car hasn't run this well in years. read more

My car broke down. On the recommendations reviews from Yelp, with reluctance, I went with this repair shop. Luis said the engine on my 2015 car was shot and needed a new one. Insurance guy stated, a rebuilt engine would be better about $2,300; I went with the new engine ($4,800), $6,500 total bill. Pick it up about 5 days later, drove it for a few days, then it broke down on me on 101 about 9:30pm. Stranded waiting for AAA and my wife had to come out; very dangerous. Take it back to the shop, Luis states it needs a new Transmission $2,700 more. I take it to a different shop, they find out he didn't put a new engine in it, and it was reassembled wrong, which caused the damage to the transmission. Now I have to spend $3,400 on a new transmission. I confronted Luis about the engine he told me it wasn't new (didn't even apologize about lying or making me pay for a new engine $$), they even painted my engine with silver spray paint, Luis admitted not putting an engine in that he promised and still charged me for work and parts not done. He stated he'd give me my money back, and offered to fix it for $500-$600; a guy owed him a favor. He stated he'd pay me back $2,500, then reneged when the day came. Do you think this guy is a scam artist? I wouldn't trust him to work on anything. I'm reporting his business to the California Consumer affairs, filing a police report for fraud, and giving all the information to the District attorney's office consumer fraud after I get the report from the new shop, pictures, and serial numbers. All throughout the work, before it was complete, Luis was insistent on me paying him cash, which lead me to think the IRS would like to look at his books and bank accounts. Luis comes off as a nice guy, but very dishonest to say the least and at this point, I am not sure what work he did on my car. The new shop will figure it out and give me the evidence to go after him. Luis stated "We can settle this in court." Which I don't want to do, but will likely be the course of actions, since he is not a man of his word. read more

Long story short, they charged me an arm & a leg for a thermostat. Midas Mis-diagnosed my problem and my car overheated shortly after. I looked up local reviews and came across Luis' Auto Repair. I called and talked to Luis personally. He had me come in that day and ran diagnostics. He found that I had a cracked head gasket and offered a price I couldn't refuse! This place was lifesaving. I was driving from San Jose to go to Monterey, CA. Unfortunately, about halfway along the way my car's alternator pulley and belt were squeaking really badly and it got worse as I drove. I had stopped at Firestone Tires on 150 Northridge Shopping Center, Salinas, CA 93906 since it was on the way. I stopped around 3:20 pm, as their hours suggested they were open until 6 pm. Unfortunately, I was told by the front desk that the techs there were preparing to "leave" and that I should come by the next day. Due to the distance from my home, I desperately needed the issue fixed as I couldnt drive it home without further damage occuring. I made it clear to the employee of Firestone that I needed help today and I know it was not a lengthy fix or at least i thought so since i assumed the belt needed adjustment and tightening. I was extremely dismayed at Firestone's lack of empathy to my dire situation as a tow would be problematic and costly. Luckily, I found Luis' auto repair shop and gave him a call. He was closing in about an hour when i called but was willing to take a look at my car and handle a repair if needed. I believe I talked to the owner Luis, a very kind gentleman who inspected my car and helped uncover that a bolt on the alternator had broken and needed to be removed and replaced in order to adjust the belts and have everything running smooth again. The job took less than 2 hours and i was extremely happy to have my car fixed and ready to go. Luis stayed open and worked outside his normal business hours because he understood my dilemma and had empathy toward me being very far from home. He prioritized my dire situation and turned it into a pleasant one and uplifted my day. I will return to Luis if i am in the area as his customer service and work is unparalleled. read more
