Luis is an excellent mechanic and an even better human being. He's very friendly and makes a point to ask about myself and my family each and every time I've come in. I've brought both my European and domestic cars in and Luis has been able to deftly diagnose and fix every issue that's arisen - all while offering VERY FAIR pricing and quick (often same-day) service! I've recommended to countless friends and family and will continue to do so! read more

Last year, my 2015 Audi A3 Quattro broke down and needed a full tow. This shop came through for me with excellent mechanics, fair pricing, and outstanding customer service. They really helped me out in a tight bind and made the whole experience stress-free. They do stellar work on European cars, whether you need repairs or routine service. I highly recommend them--give them a call if you're looking for reliable, trustworthy service. read more

Luis replaced motor mounts that where low quality and they shake horribly and he missed the transmission mount. He took and switched my MAP sensor and assembly because I have a different assembly with missing bolt to air filter case. Also replaced a sensor with a cheap one and it failed after 2 miles. He still charged me. Funny stuff happens there. Don't Go there..... read more

Big mistake not reading the reviews. I needed a shop to vacuum and refil my AC with the proper equipment and all this guy used was a can of refrigerant to refill my system. I replaced some ac parts and was completely empty of refrigerant. The proper way was to purge the system of the old contaminated moisture/air - before refilling, which he didnt do. I was there and witnessed the whole thing. I brought this up and he was a bit annoyed and said he had 20 years experience. I absolutely do not recommend this guy for any type of work. I could have done this myself for less than 30$ instead of paying 190$! Who knows what other services he's overselling and not doing the proper work on. This is what you call getting ripped off and scammed.

I was in Salinas working out of town and staying in seaside my vehicle broke down. It was late in the afternoon near the common closing time for shops. I reached out to various shops and all declined to help. Luis Auto Repair agrees to stay open after hours to ensure my vehicle was assessed, repaired and that I was not left stranded. Luis wasn't able to get the part I needed from the first parts store, so called around until he was able to find it. They were prompt, thorough, honest and extremely professional. I would highly recommend this repair shop. read more

I broke down on a work trip and had my truck towed to Luis, I was greeted by the owner, and without appointment he and his team diagnosed the problem. During the 1 day I was without my truck he kept it inside overnight. Topped me off with oil and on my way home I went. Thanks Luis! read more

Came to Luis to see if he could do some transmission work for me. Even though he couldn't he didn't jerk me around and I felt like he was telling me the truth. I've been looking for a new local mechanic and I think I've found one. read more

I had a great experience with this shop. I definitely recommend! He diagnosed the problem and gave me an estimate. I had an oil change and alternator replaced. He was quick and efficient. The owner is hardworking and trustworthy. He has guaranteed his work and let me know if I have any issues to come back in. This gave me reassurance of the service I was getting. Very knowledgeable and will be a returning customer. read more

All the good reviews about Luis Auto Repair are TRUE! on 9/25/18 my wife's car broke down on 101 in Salinas. I checked Yelp and Luis Auto Repair was highly recommended Our car was towed there and they were fantastic. She was back on the road and home by the end of the day. They were polite, fair, did a great job and the price was reasonable. It was an alternator that died and Luis fixed it and then had to do a lot of extra work to get the complicated aftermarket car alarm to operate properly. He called in two different specialists to solve the problem and got it straightened out and did at a very minimal charge with minimal extra time involved. Even the two truck driver knew about Luis Auto Repair and said this was a reputable place. He did say that don't leave valuables in your car there overnight. Car break ins are common all over Salinas. read more

Please note my previous review. Back in 2014, I was living in Southern California. Back then I didn't have plans to live in the greater Salinas area. Well that changed the following year. We attempted to find a reputable auto repair shop in our town. None worked out. We decided that Salinas is close enough. We returned to Luis Auto Repair on several occasions. Every time the service was excellent. Today, we picked up our Ford. While this vehicle passed smog in 2015, it never ran very well. Lately, the situation got worse, and it had intermittent misfires. It would operate OK sometimes and sometimes it ran like crap. Of course the check engine light came on. I have my own code reader, and all it said was misfires. DAH, I already knew that. This entailed IMO, having an evaluation by an expert automobile diagnostician. Luis said, don't worry. Well he came through again. The car hasn't run this well in years. read more

I had an issue with my belts on my 2005 Toyota Corolla. I gave them a call and they gave me a good quote so I was happy. All the staff was really friendly and made me feel right at home. About 30 mins later my car was done and I paid exactly what they quoted. Its very refreshing to find a shop like this that stands by their word and does not overcharge you. I found myself a new mechanic in Salinas. Highly recommended! read more

Great knowledgeable mechanic at a fair price this mechanic can fix any car highly recommended

Luis is a great person to do business with. He was kind and spoke to me in a way I would understand. He didn't up the charges and gave me a quote from the start. He didn't try to upsell me and he made suggestions on what I may need done in the future and why my car sounds the way it does. Everyone in his staff was pretty knowledgeable and can pretty much fix anything. His customer service is amazing! Makes me want to keep coming back. I agree with the other yelpers... he is someone who you can trust and come back to. I found my mechanic for life. As long as the service remains the same, I'll definitely be coming back. Thank you, Luis! And I definitely will be coming back! ALSO! Location is kind of hidden, but it is a gem! OH! AND HE DOES SAME DAY SERVICE!!! read more

This guy is TOP NOTCH! Refilled my AC in 30mins! I got cool air again! He's also VERY, VERY nice and accommodating, as well as his staff. Everyone was very professional, well dressed, and respectful. There was no wait time at all; Luis worked on my car as soon as I arrived even without an appointment. And yeah, today is Saturday! Will definitely recommend to others! :D read more

Luis Auto Repair - Second to none! - Auto Repair Near Me - Salinas, California

Traveling for the first time in our camper van, we unexpectedly had a problem. And of course, it was 10 min till everyone was shutting down for the day. None willing to help us out, except Luis. Even at the end of his work day, he was focused, straightforward, and fair. He prioritized us so we could get back on the road - without hiking up the cost. Bonus: our van drives better than ever! My car broke down. On the recommendations reviews from Yelp, with reluctance, I went with this repair shop. Luis said the engine on my 2015 car was shot and needed a new one. Insurance guy stated, a rebuilt engine would be better about $2,300; I went with the new engine ($4,800), $6,500 total bill. Pick it up about 5 days later, drove it for a few days, then it broke down on me on 101 about 9:30pm. Stranded waiting for AAA and my wife had to come out; very dangerous. Take it back to the shop, Luis states it needs a new Transmission $2,700 more. I take it to a different shop, they find out he didn't put a new engine in it, and it was reassembled wrong, which caused the damage to the transmission. Now I have to spend $3,400 on a new transmission. I confronted Luis about the engine he told me it wasn't new (didn't even apologize about lying or making me pay for a new engine $$), they even painted my engine with silver spray paint, Luis admitted not putting an engine in that he promised and still charged me for work and parts not done. He stated he'd give me my money back, and offered to fix it for $500-$600; a guy owed him a favor. He stated he'd pay me back $2,500, then reneged when the day came. Do you think this guy is a scam artist? I wouldn't trust him to work on anything. I'm reporting his business to the California Consumer affairs, filing a police report for fraud, and giving all the information to the District attorney's office consumer fraud after I get the report from the new shop, pictures, and serial numbers. All throughout the work, before it was complete, Luis was insistent on me paying him cash, which lead me to think the IRS would like to look at his books and bank accounts. Luis comes off as a nice guy, but very dishonest to say the least and at this point, I am not sure what work he did on my car. The new shop will figure it out and give me the evidence to go after him. Luis stated "We can settle this in court." Which I don't want to do, but will likely be the course of actions, since he is not a man of his word. read more

I can't recommend this place enough. We broke down in Salinas, on our way north. Luis helped us in a pinch when other shops would not. He even stayed late on a Friday night to get us on the road. Great service and great work. We're so glad we found Luis. Many thanks! read more

Luis is such an honest mechanic! I trust him & only him with my car. I have recommended him to everyone I know as well. Early 2014 my Chevy Impala overheated & I went to Midas to get it checked out. Long story short, they charged me an arm & a leg for a thermostat. Midas Mis-diagnosed my problem and my car overheated shortly after. I looked up local reviews and came across Luis' Auto Repair. I called and talked to Luis personally. He had me come in that day and ran diagnostics. He found that I had a cracked head gasket and offered a price I couldn't refuse! He had my car in & out in a few days, running like new. Now I go to him for everything, including regular maintenance. He is the best! read more

Hi I have used Luis service a few times over the last couple of years and I think he is the best mechanic I have had work on my cars, his service goes way past what is expected I couldn't rate him any higher on any category If you take the time to find his business you won't be disappointed. read more

I call this guy he is the owner of this shop and my car had electrical problems and Luis gave me the estimate over the phone without looking at the car. He said he fix my car but the check engine light came on and I took it the another mechanic because Luis said the he fix my car and to stop bothering him. When I pick up my car from his shop he told me that the labor was guarantee for 30 days and now he is doesn't want to help me, my cat still have electrical problems and he charge me allot of money. Please DO NOT USE THIS IDIOT HE IS ONE OF THE WORST MECHANIC I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. read more

Just an update that all of the stuff Luis fixed on my car *stayed* fixed! :D He breathed years more life into the little vehicle. Thanks!

This place was lifesaving. I was driving from San Jose to go to Monterey, CA. Unfortunately, about halfway along the way my car's alternator pulley and belt were squeaking really badly and it got worse as I drove. I had stopped at Firestone Tires on 150 Northridge Shopping Center, Salinas, CA 93906 since it was on the way. I stopped around 3:20 pm, as their hours suggested they were open until 6 pm. Unfortunately, I was told by the front desk that the techs there were preparing to "leave" and that I should come by the next day. Due to the distance from my home, I desperately needed the issue fixed as I couldnt drive it home without further damage occuring. I made it clear to the employee of Firestone that I needed help today and I know it was not a lengthy fix or at least i thought so since i assumed the belt needed adjustment and tightening. I was extremely dismayed at Firestone's lack of empathy to my dire situation as a tow would be problematic and costly. Luckily, I found Luis' auto repair shop and gave him a call. He was closing in about an hour when i called but was willing to take a look at my car and handle a repair if needed. I believe I talked to the owner Luis, a very kind gentleman who inspected my car and helped uncover that a bolt on the alternator had broken and needed to be removed and replaced in order to adjust the belts and have everything running smooth again. The job took less than 2 hours and i was extremely happy to have my car fixed and ready to go. Luis stayed open and worked outside his normal business hours because he understood my dilemma and had empathy toward me being very far from home. He prioritized my dire situation and turned it into a pleasant one and uplifted my day. I will return to Luis if i am in the area as his customer service and work is unparalleled. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Luis and his shop. I found him through the reviews on Yelp and Google, my son is in CA during an internship when his car started to slip gears, the transmission had just be replaced, so was still under warranty. Luis worked with us and the transmission company to get a new transmission, put it in the car and get my son back on the road. Luis gave my son rides back to his apartment on 2 separate occasions, which was a 45 min. drive! Great guy, great service, highly recommended!! read more

Luis changed out my transmission and fixed a few engine problems on my old Honda CRV. It took a few tries to solve everything but now she's working perfectly. I got a tune up here today, the service was great and my car was finished in a timely manner. In fact, my car was finished a hour before they had originally said. The price was reasonable and fair. I am very pleased with the work done on my car and the price that didn't hurt my pockets. I had called another shop before I went here and they wanted triple the price of what I paid at Luis's. I will definitely be returning for all my car needs and recommend them to my family and friends. My car is purring like a kitten again. read more
