We just moved to Pacific Grove last week. Today, in the pouring rain, it looked like one of my…read moretires was going flat - we thought it might have picked up a nail. My husband wanted to go to a chain tire shop but I wanted to go to a local Mom & Pop business so we ended up at Matteson's. Thank goodness they were open on this holiday Monday. They checked the flat tire and all the others - couldn't find a leak, put more air into the low tire and we were back on the road. They were kind and helpful. We will go there for all of our automotive needs in the future. We have found our auto shop!! Matteson's rules!

I called in advance to request a proper internal tire patch--a process that involves removing the…read moretire, repairing it from the inside, remounting, and balancing. I was quoted $35 for this service. I even marked the location of the air leak on the tire to make the repair straightforward. When I came to pick up my car, I discovered that instead of the patch I requested, the tire had simply been plugged. Upon mentioning this at checkout, the man in the back room told me, "Don't complain," and the woman at the counter insisted, "Plug and patch is the same thing." Neither response was professional, nor was the service what I had asked and paid for. For the record, plugging and patching are not the same, and I had confirmed with multiple other shops beforehand that they could perform the proper patching. In fact, I had the same service done in Los Angeles for $10, correctly and without dismissive comments. While this shop may be reputable for other services, I cannot recommend it for tire repair. Clear communication, professionalism, and delivering the service requested should be the minimum standard.

Natale's Auto Service Center - July/6/2011, Papa Joe fixed the brakes on my 1965 Mustang while we were on our vacation up the coast to Monterey. Super nice people!

Ma Familia, that's the feeling you get when you are first greeted and the excellent service…read morecontinues throughout. I sought Natales out on a recommendation from a friend who described them as honest and up front about estimates and repairs. I needed an extensive brake repair and they were reasonable, thorough and efficient. I was very happy with the results. Most recently I came in for a loud clunking noise which all I could think was it will likely add up to lots of $$$$ signs. Thankfully it was a quick and easy fix (tightening running board and lug nut replacement), and after a detailed discussion with the mechanic and owner about tires and suspension including a thorough description about PSI, tires and vehicle performance I went away very pleased and with a smoother ride having had the tire pressure lowered for free! They also made several recommendations for other local services i.e. tires and windshield repair. I cannot recommend Natales high enough and plan to keep bringing our vehicle to them for the duration of our stay here in beautiful and friendly Monterey!

I just took our other car into the shop and they were also transparent when we asked if the could fix a problem and they referred me to another shop. We appreciate their honesty in not costing us more money with what they can't do.

Popped in and told the guy I needed oil which I knew I needed 2 quarts, and if he could just basically tell me the air pressure so I could do it myself etc. I usually have an air pressure gadget in my door but that also had been borrowed by my son apparently. Without saying anything and ignoring what I already said about I had checked the oil, he walked out and I opened the hood and he pulled the dipstick out as I said yeah I already have done that and then went inside and got the 2 quarts that I had already put on the counter. He poured them quickly in and then put air in three of the tires and all of this took about three minutes total. He then proceeded to charge me $25 for that! Absolutely appalling and terrible business practice and honestly just rude on top of everything. To ignore a 69-year-old woman that way and then rip her off was disgusting at best. I will never go back there and I honestly suspect he has had friends/family and locals put these reviews in because he absolutely does not deserve them. I have never been charged for air pressure over the years and I've also never had somebody ignore that I am perfectly capable of pouring the oil in myself and pushing ahead and then slamming me with a $25 bill. I'm very tired of people behave this way! Gross. There have to be more honest well-meaning gas station people in the area.
