Friendly. Helpful. Honest feedback. Drop off and pick up easy! This is gonna be my car guy.

I feel like they were honest about what my car needs done, they said some can wait for about six months to get it done. I noticed that their hourly fee is as much. I am a customer from Midas, but when I was going to Midas, I had my own mechanic there and then they moved them, but I stayed at my desk and now looking back, I'm thinking why that was a mistake. Give Madison a try. I think you'll be happy. read more

Everyone here was really helpful and nice. We had low tires & they got us back on the road in no time!!

We just moved to Pacific Grove last week. Today, in the pouring rain, it looked like one of my tires was going flat - we thought it might have picked up a nail. My husband wanted to go to a chain tire shop but I wanted to go to a local Mom & Pop business so we ended up at Matteson's. Thank goodness they were open on this holiday Monday. They checked the flat tire and all the others - couldn't find a leak, put more air into the low tire and we were back on the road. They were kind and helpful. We will go there for all of our automotive needs in the future. We have found our auto shop!! Matteson's rules! read more

I called in advance to request a proper internal tire patch--a process that involves removing the tire, repairing it from the inside, remounting, and balancing. I was quoted $35 for this service. I even marked the location of the air leak on the tire to make the repair straightforward. When I came to pick up my car, I discovered that instead of the patch I requested, the tire had simply been plugged. Upon mentioning this at checkout, the man in the back room told me, "Don't complain," and the woman at the counter insisted, "Plug and patch is the same thing." Neither response was professional, nor was the service what I had asked and paid for. For the record, plugging and patching are not the same, and I had confirmed with multiple other shops beforehand that they could perform the proper patching. In fact, I had the same service done in Los Angeles for $10, correctly and without dismissive comments. While this shop may be reputable for other services, I cannot recommend it for tire repair. Clear communication, professionalism, and delivering the service requested should be the minimum standard. read more

My husband and I were in the area for our 10 yr anniversary and started hearing a scraping sound when we turned right. We found Matteson's on Yelp. Mike was gracious and helped us right away and and we were back to enjoying our festivities in 20 min. Just wanted to say a big thank you for being so nice , speedy and generous. Much appreciated! read more

Man, I sure appreciate these folks-- they seem like one of those ideal small businesses where people care and are very honest. (Mike has frequently charged less than anticipated, and/or not billed at all for some things.) I wish more businesses were like this, and I'm glad to see from the reviews that their other customers likewise appreciate them. Thanks, guys! read more

Mike was great I arrived at 8am and he hot my work done in 90 minutes. Found great coffee shop to go to and was very pleased with the customer service and experience at Matteson's Auto Repair. read more

I was amazed today that when my car wouldn't start and I called Matteson's, Mike, the owner, immediately left in his truck and drove over to my house to diagnose the problem. Turned out I needed a new battery, so I drove to his shop where it was replaced immediately. I can't say enough good things about this establishment! read more

Very genuine and will not do anything you don't want or need. Suggestions are greatly appreciated because they know their business and I have taken a few of my cars to them and they always make it right and they are honest. read more

Not only was the work done on time, but the final charges were less than the original bid. Highly professional organization.

Stopped in for an oil change a few weeks ago service was absolutely courteous, professional, quick and inexpensive compared to big city options. I wish this place or a place like it was in my hometown because they don't make businesses like this anymore. Everything about the service was made easy and a ride was even offered while my car was being serviced, though I ended up not needing it. The quintessence of an old-school business run correctly. read more

I asked for a tire patch, but was only given a tire plug. I proceeded to tell them that I asked for a patch and not a plug and they told me that they're the same thing, even though everyone knows that they aren't. The owner also confronted me and my brothers telling us to "don't complain" when asking about the what happened. Another thing, we were promised a TIRE PATCH for $35 which is already overpriced. They proceeded to charge us $35 for a tire plug for something we could have done ourselves. Mind you, this service only costs $5 anywhere else. Overall, the workers are nice and respectful, but the OWNER and the KAREN working at the front were dishonest and scammy. read more

This shop is a total rip-off. Their prices are outrageously high compared to other tire shops, and they're anything but honest about what you'll actually end up paying. They pad the bill and act like it's all normal. I walked out feeling completely taken advantage of. The quality of their work doesn't match the price, and the lack of integrity is just insulting. Honestly, just close the shop down at this point--customers deserve far better than this. read more

I would not recommend this shop. Their prices are far higher than other local tire shops, and they were not upfront or transparent about the repair. I felt pressured into unnecessary services, and the bill was much higher than what was initially discussed. There are many other honest, reasonably priced options in the area--save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere. read more

THANK YOU X 100!!! Thank you, Mike and your amazing staff for your help with my aging car. I arrived the week of New Years for a vacation in Carmel. When I pulled into a parking lot for lunch, my dashboard lit up with check oil, check engine light and a host of other lights. I removed my key and the speedometer and other lights were all flashing. I was rather concerned to say the least and not the way I wanted to start my vacation. I ended up finding Mattesons on Yelp and drove it there on a Sunday, dropped my key in the mail slot and hoped for the best. Mike reached out to me the next day and said he'd take a look at it. He spent the day testing it and couldn't find the issue and only charged me for a quart of oil he added. Who does that? Matteson's does! He and I both agreed with my car at over 230K miles, it was time to let it go and get a new car. He said not to put any more money into and I agreed. Mike was incredibly generous and kind and I ended up sending him $100 for for his time and generosity. It is so nice to find vendors and business people who are honest, kind and trustworthy, especially those in the auto repair field. If I lived in this area, he would be my go to mechanic for sure. Thanks again for your help. It is greatly appreciated. My car was fine for the rest of my stay and I made the 2 hour drive home no problem. read more

Great service from them for 40+ years. Used them about 5 years about 40 years ago, went back when I came back to area a few years ago, still knowledgeable and fair read more

These guys and Amanda are great, they looked at my Mustang and ran the diagnostics to determine the issue and it turned into a repair that they had to refer me to a specialist but did not charge for the work they performed - visit with confidence! read more

I brought two family cars in with the same issue; rats had built a home in the engine compartment. I felt very vulnerable not knowing how expensive or involved the issues could be. A less honest business could have taken advantage of the situation but these guys cleaned under the hood, replaced my air filters, changed the oil (needed to be done anyway) and added a rodent deterrent for under the hood. The invoice for both cars was incredibly reasonable! I will be taking our cars here going forward. Amanda manages the front office with a positive attitude and a smile on her face.... you guys are soooo LUCKY to have her! read more

I'm taking a short vacation in Carmel. On my way out for the day, I noticed that the Tire Pressure Monitor light is lit up. So I stopped, got out & checked the tire pressures. The right front tire was a little off so I added more air with my air compressor. Drove off & the light was still on. Checked the internet for what else can I do. Couldn't find a reset button for the TPM. Looked in Yelp & Matteson's had great reviews. I called but they're on a lunch break. Decided to drive there after their break, explained what's going on to the very personable lady at the front & she said they'll take care of me. Gosh, did they?! I explained to the mechanic that I already checked the tires but not the spare. He said it might also be a defective sensor. Few minutes later, the car was ready to go. He said my spare's tire pressure was 24 so he over-inflated since I will likely not use the spare for awhile. I was in & out in about 15 minutes & they didn't charge me! (Yes, I gave the mechanic a tip.). Granted that he only checked my tires & inflated the spare, It's the peace of mind & good vibes that I truly appreciate as I continue on with my trip to Big Sur tomorrow. You guys are awesome! read more

So I just want to say that Mike of Mattesons Auto Repair is the BEST mechanic ever! He was able to see me even though it was Friday & him & his crew were finishing up before the holiday weekend & they're closed on the weekends. I told him that my bf & I were on our way to Felton for our anniversary trip when my check engine light came on & my car begin to run rough. Long story short, we couldn't drive it, he offered to fix it on his day off & helped us locate a room for the night & even drove us there. We're from LA so had to cancel our Airbnb & no way of getting around. My vehicle is under warranty & the issue wasn't going to be an easy fix. So he recommended I take it to the dealer as I'm still under warranty ( honest & stand up mechanic!! We don't know many of those in LA) He helped beyond belief & we couldn't be more grateful. The issue with my car didn't get resolved as quickly as we wanted but he knew I was still under warranty & wanted to ensure I wouldn't do anything to void that out. Mike IS SO AMAZING! Honest & stand up. We're just so bummed that we don't have him down in LA! Lol read more

Matteson's Auto Repair - Purchased one of the shops Tee! Best Auto Shop we've ever been to. - Auto Repair Near Me - Pacific Grove, California

My only two regrets moving out of Pacific Grove were being further away from Asilomar Beach and Mattson's! After having a few cars serviced & repaired at Mattson's, old beater truck to high-end BMW, I've realized that dropping a vehicle off now comes with none of the trepidation that often comes with mechanic shops. Mike and Denise are great communicators & very knowledgeable. Honorable. Both will go out of their way to help source parts & recommend a dealership service if necessary to improve the vehicle. Every service or repair happened as scheduled & as quoted, and Mike has even provided me transportation home. I've never left there with any thought that a cost or service was questionable or unexpected. If you've ever had a dog that gets excited about going to the park, well, that's how my cars act about Mattson's. read more

I took my car here because it was making a weird rattle noise when going over bumps in the road. This shop gave me a fair price to evaluate and repair. Ended up being something they couldn't fix and they didn't charge me for their time. I really appreciated that. read more

I got a flat tire on my vacation and they were the closest to my hotel that we called and they told us to come in. Not only did the fix my tire very quickly but they saw my coolant was leaking and a bolt was loose and they fixed it on the spot no extra charge. While they were helping me the owner was taking to a guy about taking his battery back to Costco because it would save him money. Such a kind honest way of business you don't find anymore. Wish I lived closer because they would be my permanent shop. read more

I took my Toyota Camry to Mattesons for brakes Upon inspection they told me my car is under warranty and I should take it Toyota. Their honesty and integrity is amazing Toyota covered the parts and repair. Mattesons saved me a whole lotta money! Thanks guys!! read more

Had a check engine light come on. They scheduled me for a visit and we're very up front and fair about the pricing. He told me, it's a typical surcharge for an engine inspection. If we find it's something simple like a gasket, they'll charge just the parts. Unfortunately it was the engine thermostats, but they were able to get the parts in hand same day and get my car back to me by the end of the day. Fair valued, and great family oriented vibe from this shop. I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

I have taken my Prius to Matteson's for about 3 years now. They have been honest & knowledgeable about my car's needs. I've had work done on the battery, brakes, headlights, fuel pump, tires, oil checks etc. There was an issue with my headlight/ ballast & they tried to fix it but weren't able to. They suggested taking it to the dealership, which I did & they fixed the issue. When I communicated this back to Matteson's, they offered to make it right on their end. They reimbursed me for the work done on my car!! (bc the issue wasn't fixed by them) I've never had an auto repair shop offer me money back; I really, really appreciated that! Mike is a great guy & wants to do right for his customers. He always explains things thoroughly & I truly feel they have my back. Thank you Matteson's for being honest & truly caring about your customers!! read more

My car has been starting up very sluggishly and I have been really on edge as to whether today will be the day that if finally gives up the ghost. I read great reviews about Matteson's and they are close to where I live so I decided to try them to see if they could fix the problem. Turns out it was an ignition switch problem and Mike and his team sure enough figured out a way around the "only Ford can fix it" and now it starts up like a dream. No more crossing my fingers or charging my crystals every time I get behind the wheel :) Everything about this place is top drawer. Christina at the front desk is a great listener and very kind. Mike even gave me a ride home when I dropped it off. They are all so professional. And guess what? They even saved me money! I couldn't be happier with Matteson's. So grateful to have a place to go where you don't feel like a "mark" as soon as you walk in the door. 10 out of 10! Thank you Mike! read more

Went in for an oil change and was pleasantly pleased by this mom and pop shop. The receptionist was very kind and even gave me a first time discount! Granted it was still pricey about $80 for an oil change and tire rotation but I shopped around and they were all around $100. Took about 2 hours and left my car exactly how it was. Will come again for future services! read more

I just want to thank the great folks at Matteson's. I just had two separate repair issues with two cars this week. I contacted Denise. She gave me an estimate that was totally in line with the repairs. Denise's customer service is outstanding. Love for follow up. Great to have someone that is knowledgeable it makes you feel comfortable through the process. All repairs were done completely to spec along with the technician finding a minor issue in one of the cars and totally resolving it. Also want to think the owner Mike for his courteousness in kindness and providing me with a ride to get home while the service was being completed. Denise gave me a follow up call later that afternoon to let me know that the repairs were completed, And made sure I had transportation to get back over to the shop to pick up the car. She completely review the invoice with me which came in lower than the original estimate. It's so great to have someone local you can count on when you have auto repair needs. Thank you again Denise, Mike, and the great service technicians at Matteson's. read more
