I'm assuming this was an off night. I've heard awesome things about this place so I was stoked when I got invited to a conference here. The food was up there with cafeteria style, the potatoes were crazy salty, the salad taste like my lawn clippings, the carat cake was dry and the olives had the pits in them. I know I sound pretentious, but it was comical watching everyone dressed up in their elegant attire have to spit pits into napkins. Redeeming factor? A few guests even said it was the prettiest wedding they've been to, and I agree!! Jenn, our coordinator, was a GEM! She made us feel so at ease all day. Music at the Mitten is awesome! Every so often they will have concerts at the mitten building bar. They are always fun and the vintage bar is a relaxing place to kick it with some buddies on a Friday night. The bands are normally great! (Personal favorite is groove session) As for food they have a bomb pizza! You can choose from a bunch of toppings and it's made right away! As for drinks they have a full bar. I don't drink so that's all I really know lol. The staff is friendly and the place is kept very clean! read more

I never post reviews but this venue is way above the norm, my now wife and I reserved with Mitten for a November wedding. all we can say is that the venue, staff, and food was the best I have ever been too and all of our attendees complimented on how amazing they made our day. If anyone is thinking about using the Mitten for any kind of meeting or ceremony please do not hesitate to book with them, our hats off again to the Mitten Bldg. Jeff would email back answering any questions we had, in less than 24 hours. Jennifer, the wedding coordinator was extremely helpful and very fun and nice. I unfortunately did not get the name of the man that helped set up my decor but I cannot say enough at what a fantastic job he did. We were told that we could to set up until 3pm and so I had asked family members to come early to help but when I arrived to the venue at 2pm EVERYTHING was done and PERFECT. The staff helped everything run smoothly and seamlessly. They truly helped me capture my vision. I highly recommend purchasing the extra hour because we needed it and enjoyed every second if it! My husband and I frequented the Mitten Building for lunch during the week when we happened to have the same days off (we were just dating then). We took a tour of the rooms and we really loved the venue even before being engaged. Once engaged, we didn't really shop for venues, we knew we wanted to get married at the Mitten. Booking was a breeze and I was pleased with that process. The staff helped us choose the best dinner options for our budget. We booked our wedding for NYE and knew there would be and upcharge for a holiday (no surprise there) and I really did my research so I didn't feel like any fees were "hidden". Because our wedding was considered to be during the Christmas holiday season, staff informed us that the Christmas decorations would remain up during our wedding and they were not willing to remove them just for one wedding (this included wreaths, garland on banisters, railing and ceiling, and Christmas trees). I was a bit off-put by that simply because our wedding was on the last day of the year anyway and they would have to take that stuff down eventually. But I didn't challenge it. About 3 months prior to our wedding, I received a call from the office staff asking if I wanted the Christmas decorations or not. I said definitely no but I thought I had to. They were willing to make an exception because the wedding the night before ours didn't want the decorations either. They ended up taking down all of the decorations except for the lit garland hanging from the ceiling but that matched perfectly with our décor. This would've been 5 stars however the venue does not offer a coordinator. This was the ONE thing that upset me. They didn't lie or hide it though. They were upfront and honest and told me from day one that they don't offer a coordinator and if I wanted one then I had to hire one or ask a family member/friend. It stunk because they don't even provide anyone for the rehearsal. I felt really embarrassed at my rehearsal because I didn't even know where to start and the venue staff was not willing to help at all. It truly felt like they were sooo helpful through everything and then BAM once rehearsal and event hit they were gone. I was able to bring my table numbers, décor, etc on the day of the rehearsal and I made it simple on everyone and taped post-its to everything I brought with instructions on where and how I wanted it set up. I think for the most part those things were correct. My florist was able to come in 2 hours before the wedding and had my groomsmen and husband's family help her with setting up the flowers which was the majority of my decorations. I don't know how helpful staff was during that time because I was getting ready. Also, I was told that guests couldn't even come into the building until 15 minutes before the ceremony but the venue did allow guests to come into the bar area and order a drink pre-ceremony (the bartender was nice enough to come to the bridal suite and ask me if I was okay with serving alcohol prior to the event). My hubby and I love their lunches which is one of the reasons we were so eager to choose this venue for our wedding. At the food tasting, the food was incredible. We were so impressed that it made it difficult to choose which entrees and sides we wanted for the wedding. At the wedding, the food was mediocre. Nothing like I remember it being at lunches or at the tasting. I understand that cooking for large amount of people sometimes the quality gets lost but I was really expecting something spectacular. We even paid extra for the Prime Rib (since our wedding was on a holiday) and it was lackluster. I wish we hadn't. I don't believe that they allowed us to take leftover food with us either. I think it is donated but don't quote me. I do know that the staff did not ask me before they threw away about 50 servings of my cake because they assumed my guests were finished. The cake was not provided by the venue therefore I felt my guests and I should've had the option to take that home. My cake vendor was so disappointed that all her hard work was thrown away before everyone could enjoy it. I believe we primarily worked with Jeff and he was great. He was very helpful at answering questions and was very honest with us. When we were making our final payment, he even helped us by telling us that they can offer 2 vendor meals frees and the discount on meals for children (we only had 2 kids there so I totally forgot to ask). So we were able to save a little extra money. I wouldn't change the venue for anything and I was pleased with our choice. I just wish certain things were different. However, for our budget and what was offered, the Mitten Building was the best choice for my husband and I and we received many compliments on our venue choice. I will continue to recommend the Mitten for events. And we will continue to eat lunch here because it is the best. read more

Just had my daughter's wedding and reception here. It could not have gone better! Great management that were continuously responsive to emails. Great food as our guest complimented us on our meal choice. The room was ready to go to our exact requests, colors. table settings, etc. Catering personnel were friendly, kind, and helpful. Me and my husband(still feels weird to say that!) Got married here 2 weeks ago. It was a dream. The staff is so nice and helpful. Mary helped us a bunch when we were booking and for all of our food tastings, she was amazing and accommodating to all of our needs and questions. Jenn was a lifesaver! Anything I needed the day of she was on it! I was a nervous wreck the day of and she helped me wrangle family for pictures, made sure I had a drink (very important) and just every little thing she was right there to make sure our big day was the best it could possibly be. The day is a bit of a blur since our emotions were so high it's hard to take it all in, but thank you everyone at the Mitten. So the only reason I gave it 2 stars it is a beautiful venue, however if you want management to go into the bride room and go through your belongings while you are celebrating, this is your place. We had limos drop us off at the venue after our ceremony, with the intentions of taking Uber back to our hotels after the reception, so we had to clear out the limos of all our things which included one 120$ unopened bottle of tequila and an a unopened expensive bottle of liquor, which were to be gifts to the groom from his brothers when they left for their honeymoon. Mind you they were wrapped in tissue paper inside the grooms sister in laws bag, not insight at all and no intention of opening them ever. While we are eating, we go into the brides room to fix our makeup and all our purse were moved and unzipped And our two bottles were gone. My purse was left open in plan site and i had cash wedding gift in there. When we confronted Landon the so called manager we were told we broke the policy of no alcohol, and they would return our bottles after the reception was over. Ok we were mad about our belongings being gone through without them coming to us first. There was an opened bottle of champagne in the bride room that didn't seem to bother Landon because he didn't take that one. So end of the night, bride and groom are leaving and his brothers want to give him his gifts only to be told Landon left and our bottles were poured out. What? Those bottles were both sealed and not made to be opened. The young guy In charged and the security guard were smirking at us because we were upset. We asked for our empty bottles , nope we couldn't even see them which makes it seem like Landon maybe took our bottles home for a nightcap. Bottom line , DONT leave your belongings in the bride room, unless you want them gone through.our night was ruined and the grooms brothers were so upset they didn't get to give the groom his gift. I spent around 10,000 dollars on this reception which included the bar opened all night, and we were treated so badly by management, please think twice before going here. They really don't seem to care about you and will treat you badly if you complain. read more

I had my wedding reception here 7/6/13 & leading up to the day, everyone at the Mitten Building was so helpful. It was a sit-down dinner & they asked that we create a detailed floor plan and have two sets of name cards, one for each guest's name to place at the tables, and another that would be set up at a side table to allow guests to know which table number they were assigned. We sat down with them a week before the wedding and reviewed all this information & were assured everything would be set up as requested. On the wedding day, as the doors opened, my groom & I found all of the tables to be in the wrong order, place cards telling guests where to sit were still in a plastic bag on a table, and they had placed him & I at a random guest table. To say that I was visibly upset is an understatement and the girl in charge kept following me around like a shadow to tell me it wasn't her fault and the office was closed to get the correct information. My husband, bridesmaid and I had to run around to fix all the tables & set up place cards. The staff did not offer to help. We were told the owner was there & asked to speak with them, but she refused to come out. This was the only vendor to disappoint us on an otherwise perfect day. I will give credit to the bartender who came to the bridal room and offered to get me a drink. read more

My husband & I were married at the Mitten Building in August 2016 and I'm just now realizing I never wrote a review. The Mitten was absolutely everything I could have asked for, and then some! We originally looked at their Summerbell room as I didn't think we needed such a huge space, but ultimately fell in love with the main room at the Mitten & booked that which was a perfect choice. We had plenty of space for our 135 guests and nothing felt crowded which too often happens. The staff at the Mitten were all wonderful; everyone was accessible, professional, helpful, and friendly & they really made our day just wonderful. I was also so excited to know that the food was being provided by the same chef that opened The Farm on State St a number of years ago (I was so bummed when that place closed!). The food really was fantastic.. much better quality than what I am used to having at weddings. I only wish I had had more of a chance to eat it. (But that's what visiting for lunch is for during the weeks, I suppose!) I also actually really liked that their wedding packages were NOT all-inclusive, as it allows so much more freedom to choose things exactly as you'd want them, instead of being stuck with a pre-selected list of vendors & items. I'd highly recommend the venue to anyone looking to plan an event. The three levels of space are so unique & the space lends itself to all sorts of different events and themes. I have been smelling BBQ in the parking lot for a couple of weeks now and have been like a confused dog trying to find out what downtown restaurant it was coming from. I got the scoop from a local blog about the Mitten Building (traditionally only used for weddings, reunions, conferences, etc) having a lunch time. After adventurously wandering there to try it (M-F 11-2) I am really happy. It hasn't been promoted yet, but they have pulled pork (the BBQ I was smelling) and a few sandwiches and salads. The also have Ritual beer and house infused cocktails. My favorite kind of drinks! We had pulled pork sandwiches on ciabatta bread. Not overly sauced, vinaigrette cole slaw, not the creamy kind, in house pickles. SO delicious. I also had fruits salad as a side and it was freshly cut ripe melon....not of that cafeteria sh*t. We shared and order of macaroni and cheese....again, not saucy...made with real cheese and melty. Splurged and got the creme brulee as a dessert and it was in a mason jar, super cute for $3. The service (RJ) was great and not pestering. We had a spicy margarita (which was also sweet) and a basil blackberry infused gin drink. Loved both of them! Very fresh and refreshing for a 90 degree day. Eating inside is really cool since the building has quite a history. Really cool hidden away spot. Clean and quaint. I HATE to share this hideaway, but I know it won't be secret for long with such good food, service and prices. We left very happy ($6 for a large sandwich and side) and will try to get back before the line forms around the block. read more

I recently had my wedding at the Mitten Building on October 19th. I absolutely love this charming and rustic venue. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They offered many times to help me set up my centerpieces and favors for me on my wedding day and everything looked beautiful! Jeff and Victoria were especially great with helping me get every detail organized beforehand. Their only (very small) downfall was that there was a gentlemen that was a little disorganized behind the bar and seemed unsure on how to make certain drinks. The Mitten Building catered my off site wedding this past weekend, and it was wonderful. Roberto was so diligent in making sure everything went well for my wedding, and the food was excellent. He and his staff even made me a special vegetarian plate :) I asked my guests during the wedding if they enjoyed the food and they all said yes :) My grandfather put on the entire wedding and Roberto was the first one he thought of to cater it. We just had our wedding here and we loved The Mitten Building!!! I tried to find a venue with the rustic/vintage/urban feel in Orange County and was extremely unsuccessful. I looked in L.A. and the pricing was outrageous, so we switched directions and headed to Redlands. The minute we walked in, we knew this was the wedding venue for us! From the moment we met with them and signed the contract to the night of the wedding they were professional and courteous. Every time I e-mailed them with a question or concern they were on top of it and responded within a few hours. All of my vendors have had nothing but nice things to say about both the staff and the venue itself. We had the ceremony in the loft area with candles and it was just as romantic and beautiful as I envisioned. The dinner and dancing was on the main floor with "patio lighting" adding another touch of romance. Honestly, it was perfect and exactly what I wanted. For the final walk through I ended up trying one of their lunches and it was fantastic!!! I had the Caramel Apple Sangria and the sliced mozarella sandwich. I was stuffed and even more excited for the food at my wedding! All in all, I would highly recommend have your wedding or special event at this venue. Had my daughter's Sweet 16 party in the Summerbell room. What an amazing venue! The staff was wonderful. They were very professional. They took care of a ton of setup, drinks, and clean up. **50 DRY CHICKEN BREASTS**The mitten building is a beautiful place for a wedding! My sister recently had her wedding there and she could not stop bragging about how great the food was at her tasting. When they brought the chicken plates out during the reception, EVERY SINGLE (50 breasts to be exact)CHICKEN BREAST WAS OVER COOKED AND DRY. They "forgot" to put the lemon gravy on top, which would have helped with that over cooked taste. I felt so bad for my mom because she was also telling everyone how delicious the chicken was. Maybe there was a new cook?I've eaten there for lunch and the food was so good. Not sure why, out of all day they decide to screw up for my sisters wedding. I had my wedding here on Aug 24 and I can't say enough how WONDERFUL the staff were to me both in the year leading up to the occasion, and on the day of! They were so helpful, responding quickly and knowledgeably to my questions, flexible with my many requests and willing and ready to jump in to help all day during the wedding. They had to change my rehearsal time by 15 min and so they credited $50 to my account! They even allowed me to have an extra hour of set-up time since my event was shorter than the time I was paying for. Seriously helpful people! The building was gorgeous, air conditioned on a hot day, and the staff bent over backwards to make it special - I highly recommend this venue if you want a place that will set up, facilitate AND clean up for you, in a beautiful location! read more

Fabulous building! But it ends there. Was there for a wedding. Food was stone cold. Pasta was hard and crunchy, absolutely uacceptable. Tables were left a mess the entire night! Piles of plastic cups. Don't know why the don't provide real glassware but whatever. No set up for speeches - people had to speak from the upper floor. Ridiculous. But it was really the terrible good and terrible table maintenance. As an event planner I would perhaps use the building but NOT the service they offer. read more

This wonderful place is perfect for a fantastic Redlands lunch! The only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is its extremely limited hours of operation (though I guess it also adds to its charm!). I've been here twice for lunch so far and have loved everything I've tasted. I'd highly recommend one of their flavored lemonades if they've got 'em ( the strawberry rhubarb was particularly superb, and I don't even like rhubarb!) and I can vouch for the pulled pork, caprese, and BLTA sandwiches. The interior is so well done I'd like to hire the person who decorated this space to do my own dwellings! Booked this place for an event that was 7 weeks away. Jeff is the kind man who helped us. The other reviews do a better job and describing the beauty of the building. I was very impressed with the food(millcreek) and the service that was offered us. The managment were great and understanding to work with. We gave them a floor plan which we liked and they let us move things around when we got there. They moved things for us. The Venue provided us with kind, happy, helpful servers and greeters. Our guests had a great time. I would recommend this place because of the quality of the venue, the food, service, professionalism, and price. read more

My fiance and I were looking for a place to have our ceremony and reception and we came across the Mitten Building. To be honest with you when we were in the parking lot of the place we were not to happy because to be quite honest it looked really ransacked and beat down. But, to our surprise we took a look at the inside and we fell in love with it. The ambiance was amazing it was romantic and different from every other venue we looked into. The only bad part about it is the location, its very far away from where we live. The prices were very reasonable. I would recommend this place to people who are looking for different, yet classy and sophisticated all at once. read more

Can't complain much about a good portion size food for under $7-6, I got the pork belly sandwich with slaw. I have to admit that i love beacon and pork so my opinion maybe a bit bias. But the pork belly have good amount of fat and meat which create a good balance of taste. I don't think i can find another place that offer pork belly meal for under 6 dollar. Their menu is very simple but they use fresh ingredients. The only negative was that they were short on staffs once the lunch crowd rolls in.
