I usually end up at their sister bar down the street but my friend wanted to stop in and check it out. The Mill is a bit dive-y/locally and depending on who is playing can seem either really rowdy and laidback. The space is really large, divided roughly into thirds, a third is pool tables, the largest is the bar area and then there's the stage. The bar has a lot of taps and a bunch of coolers that rival the beer section of a 7-11 and that's where the majority of their craft and craftier selections are. While it's impressive to see it was hard to navigate, there wasn't a menu available and I ended up just getting the IPA they had on tap. That said it was an easygoing place and worth a repeat at some point. read more

First time checking this place out on Tuesday. A new friend invited me to meet for karaoke and we had a fun time! It wasn't so crowded so we were easily able to get two songs in each while I was there. The waitress was very nice but busy so we didn't see her often and I had to go to the bar for a water refill once. The customers that day, as well as the gal spinning the karaoke tunes, were really sweet and welcoming...lovely, positive energy. The food was typical bar type food: fried, which I don't usually eat, but I ordered the chicken tenders with tots and I liked it. My friend had their Tuesday steak special which came out more medium than medium rare and a wedge salad with ranch dressing. I know it wouldn't fit with the theme, but adding a few more healthy options to the menu would be a nice add, imo. read more

We stumbled across the Mill after an early evening of running errands. My impression is that this is a good local dive joint. Drinks are reasonably priced and are a good pour. There do have a kitchen and when we were there one buck oysters were available during happy hour. There is a full bar menu that is heavy on wings and typical bar Apps. There's a pool table and a few games to keep you amused. Multiple TVs are available if you wish to catch a game. When there is a live band it's loud really loud. Acoustics are not the best due to the high metal ceiling. Lastly, there is a fenced-in outside patio if you prefer a more quiet setting. Service on a crowded night was very good and the manager came by a couple of times to check on us. Bottom line the Mill is a cool dive bar that we will visit again. read more

I would give a 2.5, but our meal wasn't good enough to round up. While the service was good, the rest wasn't. Our medium cheeseburger came out very well done and the ranch had no flavor. We had a total of 4 drinks, 2 sodas, and 2 mixed drinks, all supposed to be carbonated. 3 of the 4 were completely, utterly flat. The Mill is one of NW Austin's premier neighborhood dive bars; it attracts bikers and country music fans by the dozens, service could be a lot more streamlined and attentive than it is (a couple more waitstaff hires would be welcome, especially during busy times), and it's casual to a fault. That said, I have a lot of affection for the place; it knows what it is and who its patrons are, and under its current ownership it's improved by leaps and bounds since it was known as Stompin Grounds pre-2018. The Mill is actually one of the most family-friendly dive bars I know, and my wife and I (and sometimes offspring) like to go during the spring when they have frequent weekend Cajun style crawfish, shrimp and crab boils at more reasonable prices than most. The shellfish is served along with corn, potatoes and sausage on large orange platters that you get from the cooks on the back patio, bring back to your table, and enjoy with a beer or three. I'd highly recommend bringing along your own shellfish scissors and crab cracking implements, along with some plasticware and paper plates, for an easier and slightly less atavistic experience, since the restaurant doesn't provide any of these things. Perhaps the owner should invest in 20 or 30 crab cracking implements. I've found that table service is next to nonexistent at these and other times, by the way; it's best to go right to the bar and put in your order (at busy times there WILL be a line). read more

The drinks were gross (albeit cheap and strong) The patio area had nice vibe: decent music, cool lighting, plenty of seating. The only problem is it wasnt worth walking through the hellish cacophany of country music and belligerant beckys to get to the rude ass bartender and order a disgusting, poorly made drink. Decided to stop at this bar with a friend. It's a nice, spacious bar that has a food menu, pool tables, and slot machines. They also have live performances. This particular night wasn't as crowded as I heard it could get for a Saturday night but seems as though the food took forever to get to our table. Our waiter was very attentive during our wait so I did appreciate that. I ordered the sweet potato fries and Parmesan garlic wings along with a margarita. While the food was served to us hot & ready, it appears it was cooked a little too long. The sweet potato fries were good but had a slight burned aftertaste to them while on the other hand, the wings didn't seem to be cooked long enough. The Parmesan garlic sauce was delicious, had a buttery garlic taste. They also had other flavors for the wings but I don't think that would be an item I'd order again from them. I'll more than likely stick to enjoying the music and a nice cold drink. read more

I've been to this great bar more than twice ;) tonight I was there to celebrate a friend's retirement party. The human(I use that term loosely) wearing a Superman shirt was anything, but not super. She was angry from the get go, did not matter. I ordered a round for the band and she became very angry as I didn't know what they were drinking. "Get it now or don't get it" I heard that a couple of times. You're the bartender, what's the band drinking? I would be aware and know what's going on. Maybe that's change in the 30 years of being a catering owner. I went to pay my tab and mentioned to the other bartender about "super" woman. Three seconds later "super" was standing at my table verbally abusing me. Apparently I spoke with the owners daughter, and she shared something to "super". I have never in my 60+ years have ever, ever been verbally abused in front of other guests. I like this bar, our group Austin Tx parrot heads love this bar. I had to write something. Ive been in the service business over 40 years and I am amazed, pissed and truly dismayed by the "service" or lack thereof of this particular angry "super". I moved in to the neighborhood just before Covid19, so after the restrictions eased up, I figured the first place I would spend my money would be in a local place. A friend and I stopped in for a drink over the weekend. It will be along time before I return. The bar Waitress wore the same gloves the entire time I was there! All while handling money, food, drinks, cleaning tables and serving patrons. She even picked up my glass (plastic cup) by the rim when she place it in front of me. Theres so many options in this area for bars but I love The Mill. Mostly because of all the regulars that come in, pretty much at any time day or night you will see some friendly faces that are fun to drink with and socialize. The bar staff is experienced and friendly. The owner is very involved from decorating for an event, cooking free bbq on the weekends for the patrons and just overall supervision on busy shifts. Great live music bands, pool table, large patio for those sunny days or for the smokers. Oh and of course great deals on the booze. Don't go there on 4th of July!! They were blasting fireworks in the parking lot where customers cars were parked. It was irresponsible whoever thought that was a great idea. The fireworks were literally going inside the front door of the business. They wouldn't stop even when a couple of reasonable bartenders told them to stop. I could not even get to my car without fireworks going off. It was very reckless, startling, loud af and dangerous to all of the patrons including the crying traumatized children. Not safe at all!!!! The food however was top notch for the patrons to enjoy. The chef went above and beyond for people to enjoy a good meal. read more

We come to Austin every year to celebrate New Years! We arrived this afternoon and we found an amazing little neighborhood bar to watch the Orange Bowl football game. Yelp never lets us down. David, the bartender, greeted us immediately. He was very welcoming and fixed us some amazing drinks! My husband ordered his usual crown with a splash of coke & I had a nice cold Austin amber ale!! Then we ordered a nice shot of tequila and he described all the brands of tequila they had in stock. We had a nice big shot of our favorite tequilas. We started out with an appetizer of cheese sticks and they were delicious. Then we ordered an order of chicken strips and tater tots with a side of buffalo hot sauce. Delicious!!! This bar is clean and the service is excellent. David and Sierra took great care of us and always checked on us, making sure we were ok! We loved our experience here. I am seeing all these people reviewing the food, most of which I never saw on the menu, so I'm confused. I was meeting up with friends, one of whom had a brother who was performing that night (They have live music on Fridays and Saturdays.) I hadn't eaten dinner and was starved, but all I could bring myself to order was chips and queso, the only vegetarian dish on the menu I was given. (Not that I'm a vegetarian. That was just an FYI for those of you who are.) Everything else was fried or typical bar food. The queso was good and had a bit of bite to it and they refill your chips basket if you run out. So next time I will come here for the drinks and the neighborhood bar atmosphere, not the food. I had a blast! A dive bar feel with the friendliest staff and regulars who treat you like one after you've been there for five minutes. Older crowd, early 30s and up, I'd guess. I'm not good at ordering drinks on the fly; I much prefer a cocktail list. But since they didn't have one, I ordered something simple. I was shocked to learn it was $5.25 and the bartender was shocked that I was shocked. He thought I was complaining until I explained that the same drink would have cost me at least double in DC, from where I had just moved. Mill Bar is a big space. There is plenty of seating at the bar and at tables in front of it. There's also a pool table, dart board and games. There is a giant screen overhead, above the stage, and I was told they also have karaoke. It was just fun. Simple, laid back, chill. Definitely going to return (maybe on a Tuesday when it's allegedly Steak Night), I'll update my review if I am mistaken about the food thing. read more

I know it's a dive bar, but they could at least clean the place! Junk everywhere, piled up on the stage as well. Just be careful here, and don't stay past 10pm. The parking lot begins to fill up with a bad element. We saw a really good band play, then get threatened as they were trying to load up and leave. Not worth the risk of returning. read more

The management of this fine establishment knows the bar scene in this area forwards, backwards and sideways. This keen insight and business savvy demonstrates Wes' (the proprietor) in the product. Bartenders and waiters are courteous and proficient to a fault. They are well-versed in composing exotic and obscure beverages and do their best to comply with less-than-conventional orders. Their menu is very basic, concentrating on consistent fan favorites prepared to perfection. My personal favorite is a well-done ribeye on the popular Tuesday steak night. A great deal of thought and legwork has gone into choosing the live entertainment. While these might not be the prettiest performers you will ever encounter, they always manage to deliver heartfelt and soulful musical tributes. You might see fit to visit pricier places with a more-ornate décors, but all you will do their is pay for extra overhead. The Mill delivers the most cost-effective and fun product available. Draft beer in iced pints.....great. Hungry......avoid at all costs. Hockey puck burnt birgers on an oversized stale white bun and mushy fish and chips were the highlight. Add in surly inattentive servers and you've had a great night at the Mill. read more

I stopped into a neighborhood resturant as a last minute decision. Great decision. The Mill Bar and Grill is a neighborhood grill with the best best fish tacos ever. Very large fish slices served piping hot with coleslaw and a side of tararoot chips (the healthy chips). I sat at the bar and chatted with Lynn. She was so helpful in going through the very resonable menu selections. Upon ordering I noticed the regulars to my left, all huddled up, eating with heads down. She smiled and introduced me to each on. Of course, it was "hi Gigi". Lynn had ask my name before I ordered. If you are in the Mill area you may way to give them a try. Today, Wednesday, is musical bingo night. The other nights, in addition to live music, hold other activities like karaoke, dancing and a live band.
