The Merchant is a home goods gift store carrying a number of thoughtfully curated specialty products. Located at the Krog Street Market, the interior aesthetic reads industrial storehouse meets white-washed farm living room. Exposed high ceilings painted black with spotlights, hanging 60s style vintage lamps, a lacquered wooden canoe suspended mid-air and a large lightbulb arrow sign add a quirky vibe. Products include kitchen gadgets and serving ware (hand towels, plates, bowls, measuring cups, cocktail accessories, glasses, handsoap), books (travel, art, history, food/recipe, coffee table), Georgia-related souvenirs and packaged food gifts (candies and chocolate, cookies, puzzles, etc), gifting paper (like cards, gift wrap, gift bags), candles and home decor items (wall art, prints, bookends), and some seasonal holiday items that fall into above categories. They carry Lucia candles which are one of my favorite candle makers in terms of elegant home fragrances, though I only saw their seasonal fir/evergreen scent which unfortunately wasn't a love. Price range falls into the higher end so not an everyday shopping kinda place, though I'd recommend for an occasional treat or place to buy a nice souvenir. A $47 mug from Vermont? Eek. But The Merchant won me over by selling a line of more reasonably-priced Atlanta-themed dishware from one of my favorite stores in NYC, Fishs Eddy. Plenty of house goods and kitchen things were up for grabs (books, pillows, cards to name a few), and someone greeted us warmly as we entered the shop. I didn't buy anything due to the holidays having just passed but could certainly picture myself coming back to The Merchant to pick up an abundance of gifts. Super cute crafty gift store located at Krog Market. There are so many things in this store from cooking accessories, gift items, candles, books, decor, tea sets and so much more. I bought a high price candle and was hoping for the strongest smell out of it but if was a medium strength. It's definitely worth to look around. Neat little gift shop that's located in the Krog Street Market. Random bits of interesting trinkets that are close to unique if you're looking for an odd gift for a hard-to-purchase-for person. A lot of the stuff is kitchen related and much of it is Atlanta focused, but that's perfectly okay. Much of it is over towards higher priced, at least for my budget. You might feel differently. Adorable, well-merchandised gift shop with lots of cute things to browse, especially after grabbing some food from Krog. Imagine the gift section of an Anthropologie on steroids and you have The Merchant. I'm a huge fan of Rifle Paper Company, and they carry a pretty nice assortment here. However, I wouldn't shop expecting a bargain as things seemed pretty pricey. read more

I was disappointed to be greeted with negativity and vulgar language per the post cards that you see upon first entering this store. Not appropriate for kids to see. And moreover, just mean, negative and something unnecessary. I had intended to get a lovely gift for a friend with stage 4 lung cancer. I came upon this store because I was looking for some atlanta gifts to bring back home. Upon entering I noticed they had some cute things, but the price is absurd. I was hoping to buy some things for some friends and family, but I left with a postcard of atlanta for myself to craft and even that was expensive. I knew it wasn't going to be cheap, but the prices were even more than what I expected. This store has a mixture of a lot of things, but do not really have souvenirs. It's more of things you would buy for your house. I'll skip this place next time. read more

The shop is super cute and always has nice gifts, candles, cookbooks, etc. I've noticed a pretty significant markup between products sold here versus directly from the brands they carry, but oh well, I know they have to make a profit. However, the man with glasses that I've seen in here for years (manager or owner I assume?) is consistently rude. I went in yesterday to pick up a gift on my way to a birthday dinner. I spent over $100 on a journal and a candle. I asked if they had any tissue paper and he was obviously annoyed and only spoke to me in "mhm"s for the rest of the transaction. I would've happily paid for tissue paper if that were the issue, but I think he was just annoyed with me. Which I don't understand. Don't run a gift shop if you're going to be annoyed when someone needs tissue paper for a gift? Puts a bad taste in your mouth when you're paying so much for items that could easily be bought elsewhere. read more

This is a beautiful store with a great selection, but unfortunately my recent experience there will keep me from ever returning. Myself and two friends entered the store to browse and look for Christmas gifts for family. We are all young professional women and carry ourselves with respect and kindness. Upon entering the store, the woman working did not greet or acknowledge us in any way. A few minutes into browsing around, it became very clear that she was suspicious of us as she continually followed us around the store while trying to act like she was checking on things. We did nothing in our behavior to give the impression we would have stolen/broken anything or caused any trouble. It was extremely, extremely obvious she was doing and it made our experience uncomfortable and annoying to deal with. If this is how she handled three white women, I cannot even imagine what would happen if a person of color were shopping with her working in the store. Really disappointing as this is a really nice shop, but I will not be returning. read more

The Merchant is such a fun gift store to periodically browse. They have a huge selection of Rifle Paper goods which, while no longer the most unique look in the world, are still total eye candy. Their jewelry is just okay, but they have a lot of neat bric-a-brac for the home. My fiance surprised me with a cool print of the Fox Theater from this store and I absolutely love it. read more
