    DO NOT EVER ENTER A CONTRACT WITH THESE DISINGENUOUS JERKS! The Merc and Avenue 5 deserve no stars because they will charge you for services that they will neither provide nor perform. they are crooks. Since I am unable to take The Merc and Avenue 5 Apartments to Small Claims Court, here's my Complaint and story: I entered a ten month lease with The Merc starting mid-November 2019 when I was awarded a contract in Bothel, WA. When I moved in, I reported that there were two stains on the carpet, and a scratch on the stove top. On March 13, 2020, I left for the weekend to see my father for his birthday. That weekend, my employer closed down its facility because of the breakout of COVID-19. From that day on, I sheltered-in-place in California and never returned to Bothel during my lease. Thus, I lived in The Merc for a total of four months. When I left, I worked with The Merc Management to spackle and paint the small holes I had made to hang objects on the walls, even though I had no obligation to since they were all much smaller than a dime. I took the opportunity to paint over any other marks on the walls. There were very few since I only lived there for only four months. My girlfriend and I then cleaned the place and left it absolutely spotless. Months later, I received a bill from Avenue 5 Apartments for $239. The charges were for two hours of painting, two hours of cleaning, and shampooing of the carpet. This amount was not deducted from my deposit, nor was I reimbursed for my deposit. These charges left me and girlfriend aghast and enraged. Thus my Complaint (which is not financially viable for me to file in Small Claims Court in the State of Washington because I reside in California) is as follows: 1) The Merc's and Avenue 5's allegations and lack of evidence: a) The Merc Apartments and Avenue 5 had been entirely unresponsive to any and all of my correspondence (see pictures of email thread for more details). b) The Merc Apartments and Avenue 5 were unwilling or unable to provide any evidence that the alleged charges were justified. c) The Merc Apartments and Avenue 5 were unwilling or unable to provide any evidence that the alleged services were performed. d) The Merc Apartments and Avenue 5 were unwilling or unable to provide any explanation as to why the alleged charges were not deducted from my deposit, and paradoxically why it had not reimbursed me for my deposit. 2) Actual evidence supporting my Claim: a) The Merc deemed the alleged services unnecessary by crediting my account with my deposit, yet after it had been closed. b) The alleged charges (in excess of my deposit) were actually for utilities induced after I had left the premises and my contract had ended. c) The alleged services were not performed for me but by me. Save yourself some grief by not living at The Merc, or any other Avenue 5 establishment.

It's such a scam and unprofessional. You rent an apartment and hoping that everything will work in the apartment. But no, after the first use of the sink in our apartment, we found out that our garbage disposal needs to be replaced. Why would we need to find out the first night we stayed? They did change it, but only on the third day. We weren't able to wash dishes and use the sink in the kitchen, plus it was all stinking. They did fix it, but the maintenance person left track-in dirt from shoes on the floor. Will it be acceptable if it were your home? Days later we found out that our Room Darkening Vinyl Blinds were broken before us. And they fixed it by putting tape on it. Is it even normal? It's our second week in that apartment and I have no idea what to expect next. I do understand that it's not a brand-new apartment, but you can't let anybody rent it without fixing it.

    In my experience Michael McNeil is person who has the tendency to follow minorities around the…read moreproperty then lie about it. I would give this property 5 stars if it wasn't for him. He followed my kids home after school, and when I asked him why he said it was because they were letting people in the building using a service entrance and the service elevator. Strange behavior for them especially since the service doors would be out of their way, but sometimes kids get into stuff. I reprimanded them, and they took their punishment while still maintaining that they were innocent. After I moved out a parent from the elementary school told me about the incident because she was there. Our kids are friends. She still lives there so I won't say who. I don't want Michael to retaliate against her. She is another person of color. My children, her, and her children came in the north lobby. When they got in the elevator Michael blocked the doors from closing, and forced everyone out. He then grilled my children about their identities and where they lived. He forced them to re-enter their latch code and then followed them to our door. When I asked him about it today he left out that they were using a service entrance and said it was the north lobby entrance. Which is it? It's not hard to remember the truth. He continued to downplay the experience, and that is exactly the kind of thing that makes people with his mindset so dangerous. This property and my experience here I would consider perfect if it wasn't for Michael making my children uncomfortable and afraid to walk past the front desk. If I didn't have to leave because the cost was too much to handle after getting laid off, I would 100% have broken my lease because of his presence. Donald is amazing. Heather is lovely. The entire maintenance team is fantastic! There are very little issues with neighbors other than the occasional loud/rowdy nights that happen. There was an uptick of inside smokers and people who left trash in inappropriate places as we were moving out. Hopefully those issue get resolved for the tenants.

We toured different floor plans in four separate occasions and Edith and Micheal were wonderful giving us all the details every time with not an ounce of being annoyed with us changing our minds between floor plans. The move in process was quick and easy with good access to an elevator. We had to submit an issue with our dishwasher a couple days after move in and the maintenance team came to fix it within a couple hours. The app to communicate with the staff is amazing!

Out of all of the apartments and condos this is my favorite. Been here for a little over a month and I'm sad to say I won't be able to stay longer, because I Iove living here. I lived in a few different areas down in Seattle and this place is so much more peaceful it is difficult to explain how much I appreciate it. The grounds are nicely kept, staff is super helpful. Dog friendly too. My only gripe, and this goes for anywhere a large number of people live together, is that some people don't separate their trash from recyables and vice versa, putting them into the wrong waste container. Either they are too dumb or lazy or both, but I see this everywhere. I am in a ground floor 1 bed unit and couldn't be happier. It's a very roomy apartment, at 750 sq ft. Tall ceilings are a nice touch. Hard flooring, which I much prefer as a dog owner. Nice new appliances, tons of counter space. The kitchen is really fantastic for someone who likes to cook and eat. The washer and dryer are so efficient it's almost magical how quickly clothes are clean and dry in such a short amount of time. And they are quiet too! The place is just off Bothell Everett Hwy, so its far enough away to avoid road noise but shopping is right across the street, I make little walking trips to Fred Meyer once in a while. 405 freeway is literally down the street. Plenty of places to eat, shop, gyms, etc.. Everything is close by. There is a nice little walking path and it passes by the creek and pond. It's great.

Then the manager had the balls one day to request footage from said camera after someones apartment was broken into.. People are incredibly noisy & "Management" won't do anything to fix the issue, People sneak in at night and illegally dump their trash in the dumpsters and YOU get to pay for it...
