We scheduled a tour for 3pm and drove all the way from Portland. when we showed up the office was dark and no one answered the phones to spite the sign out front clearly saying they're open until 6pm and our tour being scheduled days in advanced and confirmed by an annoying AI tool. This is a great place to stay! It's right in downtown bothell where you get convenient access to nearby bus stops, the park at bothell landing, the sammamish trail, and also the downtown area for great restaurants and the farmers market that comes by. Very walkable. Very bikeable. There is a bit of noise of outdoor traffic noise if you're on the south faceing unit, but that just comes with the convenience of being in downtown! The staff here is excellent! I feel they really care about you having a good experience living here and not just forgetting about you once you sign the lease. There are occasional community events for building residents as well. In terms of the units themselves. Very bright, open, clean, nice, and modern finishes. It's honestly great. The only con is that it's a little pricey but you're really paying for having a great living experience here. read more

Don't rent here. You will regret it. Due to negligent management, the building is so hot that the majority of residents have to leave their window open to road noise all night, even when it's freezing cold out. This also racks up the utility bills for the common spaces, meaning residents end up paying for this problem. Move here if you like paying more for insomnia. Management also called the cops on me for recording him on video smoking just in front of the main entrance, just below tenants' open windows. The building is nice and beautiful, but this is the worst management company I've ever seen. Response to management: The first 5 neighbors I asked about the heat issue agreed the building is too hot at night, so I have no idea who you've been talking to. Yes, the unit is equipped with an "AC port", but it was installed incorrectly and is half blocked from the outside of the building. Not a single word of response to that maintenance request, nor any I've submitted. Why bother reaching out with remaining concerns when I'm threatened with legal action? read more

I've lived at the Merc for quite some time because I love the local park and river near by the apartment building. Unfortunately, this area of Bothell isn't friendly to people from out of town or women of color. It seems that the Bothell Police Depts. sponsored Citizens on Patrol take their jobs quite seriously as I'm followed, photographed, and accosted most places I frequent in downtown Bothell. The Neighborhood Watch is so bad that I rarely leave my apartment and my life has become nightmarish. I would suggest if you are a person of color, living alone, do not move to this area and especially not into The Merc Apt. It's actually too bad because the building itself is well kept and aesthetically pleasing. The PMs often have building events (That I absolutely do not feel comfortable attending for the aforementioned reasons.) to foster community. I hope this clannish behavior of the locals lessen and they become more welcoming. Targeting people you do not know is NO WAY to foster true community and trust. read more

My boyfriend and I have lived here for just about a year and have had a great experience living at the Merc. We originally toured a different apartment and fell in love with the building and amenities to the point that we signed the lease for our current apartment site unseen. Linna and Kaitlyn made the application/move in process very easy and have been very responsive to any questions/concerns we've brought to them while living here. The building and units are very well maintained and have all the amenities we were looking for and more (gym, BBQ, rooftop lounge, free coffee machine, secure garage, ceiling fans, large closets, natural lighting). The building is also in the perfect placement for walking to nearby restaurants and going to Downtown Bothell events like wine walks. Love that the Merc does ticket giveaways for events like this and promotes small local businesses in the lobby. read more

I've lived here for a year and enjoyed it immensely, save a few minor improvement areas which I will mention at the end. I moved here from an apartment in Lake Forest Park where the locks were changed three times in my year lease due to breakins, so admittedly my bar may be low. Here's my feedback: Pros: location is right next to 405, avoiding the worst part of downtown Bothell traffic for commuters rent payment is online and is simple polite neighbors who keep to themselves automatic ice maker in the freezer ceiling fan in the sleeping space clean, new, modern appliances huge floor to ceiling windows with a view* (Note: rent a *south facing unit if you want to see the Sammamish River, eagles, hawks and crowbros right from your windows) Pot'o'Gold espresso machine in lobby (FREE) Parcel locker for packages next to mailboxes HUGE elevators, furniture friendly Trash and recycling chute on every floor Free poop bags at rear entry and room to walk your pet away from traffic Rooftop space has indoor and outdoor recreation. Indoor space (rentable for free if you want to party) has a pool table and huge TV, with wet bar. Outdoor space has propane fire pits with soft comfortable and durable furniture, and barbecues as well as TVs, and it looks our over all of downtown Bothell and the Sammamish River. Really epic view! Relaxed and personable staff that work hard and are there to answer questions and assist at any time, but aren't up your ass. You won't feel like you're being watched or micromanaged, you won't feel like if your dog barks you're going to get evicted. I dono about everyone else, but this is ideal for me. Cons: Coffee machine is out of order or in need of service 30% of the time, and is locked so residents aren't able to assist or replenish Walls are thin, and so are doors. You won't feel like you're alone, which personally isn't an issue for me, but might be for others. As a pet friendly building that means you'll hear dogs barking, vacuuming, and that guy on the 4th floor who games with his friends online and yells whenever something epic happened. Get noise cancelling headphones. The package area is a mess, and nuts during peak delivery times like the holidays. Once the parcel locker fills up, boxes and bags of packages end up scattered all over the floor, making significant obstructions for anyone trying to walk to their mailbox. This needs to be addressed, guys. Side note, I've seen a lot of meal kits with parishables sit... And sit... And sit. This isn't necessarily The Merc's fault, but rotting food in a mail area is not ideal, so it would be worth placing in front of a resident's door if the delivery drive doesn't have time to (spoiler alert they get graded on delivery speed, so they really don't have time) Other notes: Main entry has a dialer keypad, where user can search by name for a resident and dial them for entry. This seems to confuse delivery drivers at times, and there is a lack of clear directions posted by the keypad for noobs. Nowhere to throw away dog poop outside the front door unless you cross the road, so get rid of your dog poop before you get home. Occasionally the trash chute gets jammed. I think this happens everywhere. The fan in my bathroom stays on all the time and I can't turn it off. I believe it operates on a humidity sensor, so it's doing its job. But it makes a fan sound and is slightly annoying if you want silence or humidity. Overall I really enjoy living here, and I pay less than my friends for their apartments. read more

DO NOT EVER ENTER A CONTRACT WITH THESE DISINGENUOUS JERKS! The Merc and Avenue 5 deserve no stars because they will charge you for services that they will neither provide nor perform. they are crooks. Since I am unable to take The Merc and Avenue 5 Apartments to Small Claims Court, here's my Complaint and story: I entered a ten month lease with The Merc starting mid-November 2019 when I was awarded a contract in Bothel, WA. When I moved in, I reported that there were two stains on the carpet, and a scratch on the stove top. On March 13, 2020, I left for the weekend to see my father for his birthday. That weekend, my employer closed down its facility because of the breakout of COVID-19. From that day on, I sheltered-in-place in California and never returned to Bothel during my lease. Thus, I lived in The Merc for a total of four months. When I left, I worked with The Merc Management to spackle and paint the small holes I had made to hang objects on the walls, even though I had no obligation to since they were all much smaller than a dime. I took the opportunity to paint over any other marks on the walls. There were very few since I only lived there for only four months. My girlfriend and I then cleaned the place and left it absolutely spotless. Months later, I received a bill from Avenue 5 Apartments for $239. The charges were for two hours of painting, two hours of cleaning, and shampooing of the carpet. This amount was not deducted from my deposit, nor was I reimbursed for my deposit. These charges left me and girlfriend aghast and enraged. Thus my Complaint (which is not financially viable for me to file in Small Claims Court in the State of Washington because I reside in California) is as follows: 1) The Merc's and Avenue 5's allegations and lack of evidence: a) The Merc Apartments and Avenue 5 had been entirely unresponsive to any and all of my correspondence (see pictures of email thread for more details). b) The Merc Apartments and Avenue 5 were unwilling or unable to provide any evidence that the alleged charges were justified. c) The Merc Apartments and Avenue 5 were unwilling or unable to provide any evidence that the alleged services were performed. d) The Merc Apartments and Avenue 5 were unwilling or unable to provide any explanation as to why the alleged charges were not deducted from my deposit, and paradoxically why it had not reimbursed me for my deposit. 2) Actual evidence supporting my Claim: a) The Merc deemed the alleged services unnecessary by crediting my account with my deposit, yet after it had been closed. b) The alleged charges (in excess of my deposit) were actually for utilities induced after I had left the premises and my contract had ended. c) The alleged services were not performed for me but by me. They don't take lease violations seriously. There's a full page addendum outlining non-smoking policy yet my apartment smells like a dispensary every single night. The lease manager lives on my side of the building and did nothing to address this until it started affecting her. Even then, I was told an email would go out remind residents of the policy- it was never sent. Then was told they'd leave notes on people's doors about the policy but my door was the only one to get it & it was addressed to me.. so clearly not given to other residents. Also problems with dogs on the roof & communal spaces although against regulations. I'm very allergic and when furniture is caked with fur it makes it difficult for me to enjoy the amenities I should be able to if others were following directions. I also am responsible (all res) for the electric payments of all communal spaces and it is a bummer to be forced out. Lastly a neighbor has been letting their dog poop all over their patio for the past week. They said they needed to verify the apt before they could act but nothing had changed & more feces piled up. I emailed another updated at they replied about "continued vigilance," and that I needed to stop reaching out (it was my second follow up after the first wasn't responded to). I just want to be able to enjoy the space I pay for, and open my windows in the evening without getting hot boxed. The best thing that could happen to me was my lease being over. This place is a joke of an appartment complex. You are over paying for no reason, loud neighbors stomping due to poor infrastructure, management talking back at you not resolving these sort of issues and also not a safe place to live. Walk around in Bothell and get another place. read more

We moved in here in April 2019. We liked the cleanliness of the building, the management team was over-the-top friendly and efficient, and the grounds & building were well maintained. Fast forward to July 12 when I come home from work to find a note in my door that the building was sold to Avenue5.com. Instantly, the whole feel of the building changed. What was once was warm and welcoming became just another place to warehouse bodies for the rent check. The lovely people that were in the office were gone, the maintenance and grounds keepers disappeared. Even the welcoming mats with the Merc logo disappeared. The grounds are full of weeds, the communal area carpets are stained. The hallways and stairwells aren't keep vacuumed. No one is checking up on anything. Many of us living here are in transition and the former staff made us feel like this was a welcoming temporary home. Now the place is soul-less, dirty, and we can't wait for our house to be built so we can move out. My advice, look elsewhere. Avenue5.com who runs the Merc now doesn't care about anything but getting your rent check. read more

I am enjoying not only my lovely and modern apartment, but the lifestyle The Merc offers, including an upscale fitness facility, gorgeous rooftop deck, and short walk to the Sammamish River Trail and Bothell Main Street shops and restaurants. The Merc goes above and beyond to offer social events and involvement in the community. Two of the things I love most is the friendly onsite team and welcoming atmosphere for my dog! read more

I'm so disappointed with The Mercantile Apartments in downtown Bothell. This morning new manager Jake had an incident with my partner and her dog off property by the Lutheran church when his and her dog interacted 15 feet away. At that time my partner fell down, Jake knowing she is legally disabled and has a service dog, he did not even offer to ask if she was okay or to help her up. He simply just left her therefore on the ground. When I came home from work this evening my key foab was inoperative. I came to the office to address it. Jake said he did that on purpose because he wanted to talk to me about my new partner's dog supposedly almost bit his dog and he was forcing him on the lease. He stated any dog that comes close to his dog or any others and bite he will call the cops and have them put down in the Merc Apartments and Bothell community. I said I agree but our dog is not the type to bite. The way this was handled was juvenile and very unprofessional and he simply just got scared. This could have been handled with a simple phone call not lock me out of my own place of living. His face was completely red and of extreme emotion of being mad. I could barley even get a word in. I've lived here going on three years and have never dealt with this type of behavior from management. For threatening our pet and not helping a disabled person in need is just wrong. This is a huge pet community. Our dog is known at the dog park of Bothell Landing and a community favorite. read more

Wonderful industrial inspired apartments in a beautiful older part of Bothell. The apartments are spacious and the building is clean and well managed. They are all taking the best precautions to protect the residents through the pandemic by following and updating constantly about the guidelines and parameters. The roof top is a major perc it has a great view of Bothell and hosts events (prior to pandemic). The rooftop has an indoor lounge/kitchen and has televisions, fire pits and a barbecue area and is well managed and looked after. The area is fantastic as you can walk by the river, out to the wooded areas, go get ice cream and much more. It's a safe friendly location with much to do. read more

When I moved here in January, I instantly felt at home. The community events have allowed me a chance to get to know my neighbors and I have made some really great friends. The common areas are air conditioned and have free wifi and television, a huge perk as a starving college student! Last month, things changed a bit around here. Without notifying us, our building was sold and over the course of a morning the management team that we had grown to love was replaced with a mishmash of strangers. The transition has been understandably difficult, as the lack of communication from the previous management to us seems to have extended to the new management as well. For example, the previous management did not alert Avenue5 to some special payment circumstances on my account, resulting in my receiving a 10 Day Pay or Vacate Notice. All it took was a stop down to speak with Tyler, the new manager, and my account has been fixed without further issue. Our awesomely stocked breakfast bar is also no longer. After another conversation with the management, I learned that Avenue5 is working on getting their cash account set up and our goodies should reappear soon! Transitions are hard on everyone. I am confident that as Avenue5 works out their growing pains, The Merc will once again be where it's at!!! read more

As someone who has lived in several apartment buildings who have gone through management transitions I have to say it can be a rough ride. At first I wasn't too happy with the change over to Avenue 5, but as I've gotten to know Jordan and Tyler they really do care about the building and the residents. Were there some transition speed bumps? Yes there were, but it's obvious that they are working hard to smooth things over. Sometimes I have to remind myself that they only have so much power, and a lot of times they have to wait for corporate to make changes. They are getting there though, and I'd happily recommend this building to anyone! read more

I have only been here for three weeks but so far so great! The place is nicely insulated so I don't have to hear my neighbors (except the one that bangs on the wall sometimes for some reason). These apartments are actually very well done compared to most of the Seattle apartments in the same cost range. I love that it is a secured building. I love the soft close cabinets, and the floors have been done right. There is actual proper sub-flooring! I can safely receive all my Amazon packages right downstairs. As of now, I would highly recommend The Merc apartments. read more

Yes, the building was really lovely before Avenue 5 took over in July but I have to wonder whether all that was just to flip it. Avenue 5 took over and the first 2 months were really rough with the transition. But Tyler and Jordan have really stepped up their management game. Tyler figured out - like Sherlock Holmes - what the banging below me was and fixed it. He really cared and stayed on the case until it was fixed a few days later. The book club has reappeared as well as the monthly resident party - this month is a cupcake extravaganza. So the building is coming closer to its former life. The maintenance guy has adjusted 3 doors in the hallway (trash, recycling, and stairs) so that they don't slam and he did this within 24 hours. Avenue 5 even replaced the coffee maker in the lobby to an industrial version - and this one can take the abuse of 400+ people every day. If you moved in today, unaware of the previous lavish management team, you would like it. But for those of us who can compare the two, we'll long for the previous team. But then again, I truly believe the previous management team's job was to fill and flip. read more
