We decided on this restaurant about an hour before we walked over from our nearby hotel. We made reservations online at their website.
They were at about half capacity when we walked in at 7.30pm on a friday.
It's a very small place, in the middle of the docks, very romantic surroundings with the lights on the water at night.
The space is narrow but we never felt cramped. Its incredibly clean. You can see the kitchen from every seat, but it's not overly loud. It's decorated very modern and it all fits their theme.
They serve fish dishes exclusively.
We started with 3 raw oysters which were prepared with pickled rhubarb and gin. I found the flavours amazing but the combination of textures was a little too much for me. My partner personally enjoyed these alot.
This was my first time trying oysters and I wanted to keep the shell as a token. The wait staff made me feel they understood this rather quirky request one even divulging she has many at home and polishes them. The two wait staff who served us were both very professional and friendly. Answering any questions with ease and had brilliant recommendations.
We then had their taramasalata off their small plate selection which was presented beautifully. The flavours were very sharp and fresh. The presentation was gorgeous with drizzled squid ink.
Our next two small plates were served together. An authentic carbonara, made with fresh linguini which had smoked salmon and delicately battered and fried cod cheeks. And fried squid with harissa
The texture of the cheeks was absolutely heavenly. One of the best things I have ever eaten.
The squid was perfectly seasoned, crispy skin with soft flesh. Amazing.
I had homemade lemonade which they offered carbonated and still. I opted for still. It was fresh and sharp, proper Sicilian lemonade. The perfect sour lemonade. But perhaps too sour to pair with the amazing fish dishes. My partner had a chardonnay.
For dessert my partner had a tiramisu which was extremely creative. It was made with polenta and pistachos. It was a gorgeous crumbly, nutty cake. With dollops of cream and drizzled coffee syrup. I ended up stealing no small amount off of his plate.
My dessert was grilled goats cheese served with a blood orange sorbet. The sorbet was too sour for my tastes, when paired with the lemonade. But my partner devoured it.
The service was outstanding. The ambience absolutely wonderful. The food was godly.
The price was rather reasonable for fine dining and totalled £111 and change. The perfect spot for a pair of fish loving foodies.
We will absolutely be returning. read more
