We came here for dinner after a manatee performance in the west end. It was VERY crowded, which I am sure was because people where headed to the evening show. Despite having a reservation, it took about 15 mins to seat us. However, shortly after that, the place cleared out with people headed to their shows. The food was very good, and very fresh. I have been many times to the Fishworks in Marylebone but this is a first for me here...same street as Bentleys, Gaucho and Veeraswamys I met a couple of friends for lunch last week here. The food was pretty good - I had the devilled whitebait followed by the fish and chips (a struggle to eat it all, but had to be done!). They chose scallops, then Sea bass. The bouillabaisse was a disaster. Most of the mussels and other shell fish in the dish were closed and not part of the sauce. The shell of the other mussels were broken and there were pieces of shell in the sauce. The waiter showed the dish of closed shell fish to the chef who then brought me another dish of mussels that were cold to eat separately- which was weird. I was not happy and they just offered to take £10 only off the bill and not to replace the dish. Eating shell fish as we all know can be risky. I did not feel safe eating this. Also the staff member who took £10 of the bill - kept repeating :' all our shell fish is fresh' Which felt as though she was protesting too much. Avoid! read more

We stopped by here while wandering around London and thankfully, on a Saturday (albeit early evening), we were able to get a table. For starters, we got the oysters, which we absolutely loved. For my main, I got the Seafood and samphire linguine £22 with squid, mussels, crevettes and seasonal samphire with a classic white wine, tomato and basil sauce. I wanted pasta since I needed it to fill me up after a long day of walking. I would say this dish is very good and I would highly recommend it. Next to us, they got the lobsters, which looked really good and the couple were really chowing down on it. So good for them! A Fancy restaurant. I was there in early May for dinner. Food and ambience were great. The female cook(?) at the entrance was welcoming and promptly alerted appropriate person to assist me. I was a solo tourist eating by myself and I was quite sweaty and wasn't dressed to match their ambience. I think the service became more up to par once I put myself together in the bathroom. Still, I wish they came to check in on me for a second glass of wine when it was finished. Perceived a slight judgment there but it's not unique to this restaurant. A hidden gem. read more

This is one of the best meals that I had here in London. Perhaps because it was fresh and simple! No extra sauce or frills, just basic and tasty. That's exactly what I needed. Fishworks is a great little seafood restaurant tucked away on a side street behind Regent St. It is very cozy and candle lit in the evening with excellent food. We had roasted scallops to start followed by the grilled sea bass with rosemary, both of which were delicious. The food is relatively pricy - I think our bill came out to £90 which included a carafe of Sancerre. It is also quite popular and when we arrived at 6:45pm, they were turning people away so do make a reservation in advance. read more

My favorite Tastecard find so far! I was torn reading the menu full of so many delicious sounding sea critters but ended up going for the classic lobster. It comes served both hot with garlic butter and cold with mayonnaise. I asked the waiter for a rec and went with the hot with garlic butter. Impressive and delicious.. normally a set-back of £25, but the tastecard cuts it down to half that price! I loved the venue as well, just the right size and classy but still able to get away going there in jeans. A sweet pick for groups of friends, family, and longtime lovers. As it says in the title, Fishworks is totally about seafood. Literally, only one main course is non fishy. So if you have a friend that is not into it, tell him he's having roast chicken and that's final ! In the very center of London, the venue is large and will work from couples to medium group. Not too busy on a sunday evening, I assume the place to get quickly packed on a saturday or friday. Great service. Nice menu. However, my advice is to skip starters that are somehow disappointing and jump straight to mains. I went for a whole Devon crab and couldn't be happier about it. The lobster was also excellent with a sauce that didn't seem too processed. The freshness and the variety of fishes makes you forget that you're eating in a franchise type restaurant. It's a pleasure to order seafood and having no concern about it freshness Now, two random details that I appreciate: Deserts are all presented with a matching wine suggestion, toilets are in a really pristine condition. read more

Although we booked weeks in advance for Covent Garden restaurant we were given a table downstairs, where you will be sitting either opposite the toilets or a kitchen entrance! No atmosphere or ambience at all. Our waitress did her best but food service was painfully slow and the food when it arrived was extremely average. No wow factor here I'm afraid. Fishworks. Friday night. Everywhere was booked or busy. Food, service and atmosphere were excellent. It felt unrushed, not overly loud, and in our booth we were able to converse easily without shouting. I haven't eaten at Bentleys next door but Fishworks was perfect. I had seared tuna rare - what other way can you eat seared tuna? Nice small serving. Very tasty, well prepared. Our Lithuanian waitress was exceptionally accommodating including bringing me extra chocolate brownie bits with my tea. My partner had fish and chips reported as very very good and the portion was enormous enough that I was able to compensate for the smaller tuna. Chips were fat and hot. Chablis was cold and good. Not overpriced. Good food good value good service. Oh yes and then there were some very cute trick & treaters who were very solemnly into the task of money or candy - check out the photo! read more

Fishworks is in a handy location. I think that's where it ends. A lot of my overseas friends have remarked on how difficult it is to get good, fresh fish in this country. After all, it's not like the UK is landlocked or anything. So when we rocked up at Fishworks after a concert at St James's across the street, I hoped - given their fresh stock - that it'd buck the trend. After all, for £15-20 a main course, you'd hope so, and in the end if the basic ingredient is good enough, the dish will be fine so long as you don't overpower it or overcook it - simple enough for a professional chef. I had the fried chilli baby squid for starter. It was ok, although I wasn't so keen on the greasiness. My parents on the other hand were rather unimpressed with their lobster bisque - they made a comment to the waiter, although said comment didn't seem to filter anywhere. Oh well. For mains, I chose the pan-fried halibut with a few potatoes and greens. I absolutely love halibut, unfortunately its £30+ per kilo price tag makes me cry myself to sleep on occasions and so it's a rare treat. And as a rather minimal dish, what could go wrong? The top half of the steak was nicely cooked, fine. The bottom half...overcooked. Seriously. For a dedicated fish restaurant, it's pretty unacceptable, especially considering the price. So my search for good (reasonably priced would be a boon too), fresh fish continues. I might just stick with nearby Yoshino at this rate. At least you can't overcook sashimi. read more

This place is in the heart of Picadilly in a small side street between Regent & Piccadilly. I had already eatten so I just had an oyster appetizer, bread and some prosecco. The oysters came 3 different ways. Bloody Mary shots, plain and baked with cheese on top. I loved the Bloody Mary shots filled with a plump yummy oyster. The plain was also nice squeezed with lemon. The one topped with cheese was disappointing. The cheese and oyster was cold. The side of bread came with 3 different dips and two types of bread. It was really good. My friend had a crab appetizer. It was a steamed crab with some sort of side of sour creamish looking dip. He devoured the whole thing so it must have been good. His entree was the baked cod. It came on a layer of spinach and I forgot the side? The cod looked really good . It was a good thick sized portion. So based on what I had its an easy 3 stars. I will say service was very good. Our waitress came by often to make sure we were happy. Oh and we were here on a Friday night about 9:30 without a reservation and was able to get in right away which is something that's hard to do. We probably went into 3 or 4 other restaurants in Soho without a reservation and was faced with 45 min waits at all of them. Randomly stumbled in to this place looking for a fast dinner with a coworker. We split the "popular appetizers" plate, and got daily fish specials - he got the tuna, and I got the monk fish, and we got the sides of wilted spinach and a tomato/onion salad. The appetizer plate was delicious, though quite small (maybe 75% of what I expected for an appetizer - probably best if one is ordered per person and not shared). The tuna was overcooked slightly (we both expected it more raw), however the chive sauce was great. My monkfish was a total hit and I highly recommend it if its available. Good sized servings as well. The salads were terrific - spinach wasn't overcooked, and the tomato/onion salad was delicious. The service was terrific - waiter worked with us on recommendations on what to order, recommended - and provided a sample - of nice white wine, and overall the experience was positive. I would come back here if I was looking for a fresh fish experience. But stay away from the overcooked tuna steak. :-) read more

I went here for a birthday meal with friends during the week - the restaurant is very welcoming with a display of fresh fish at the fishmongers when you first enter. The food was tasty and the service was really friendly and quick but I think that the Lobster is of the same quality as Burger and Lobster, just a little more expensive. My friend had the tuna which looked amazing, though be aware that you will need to order sides for a rounded meal. I'd go again but think I'd skip the lobster and have a fish dish. read more
