Amazing food that melted in your mouth. Their free bread and butter was amazing! French butter and crispy and flavorful bread toast! We could not stop eating. For our wine, our sommelier/waiter shared an amazing white wine that was crisp and refreshing for the 80 degree day in London. The fried chips were crispy melt in your mouth awesomeness. Scotts is opening another location in Richmond and one in Riyadh of all places! Fish is sourced from local fisherman in the UK and not big fish farms. Maybe that is why it is so good. On the downside they strangely charged us a 2 pounds per person cover charge, and we got shooed off our table to make way for the next seating before we were really finished. Scott's offers a warm and cozy setting (both inside and outside) the moment you enter - set in a formal steak house that has a casual aspect as well (most were not dressed up or wearing jackets on a weeknight). Service was very informative and accommodating. They're pretty much known for their seafood so I was eager to try fresh fish. On our second night on our trip, which was a Saturday, I planned for us to dine here, knowing it would be a bit more upscale than other places we would dine at over our week in London. We were spending the Thanksgiving week in London, which was my partners first time in the city and my return since living here 20 year ago. Luckily, we had planned for this and felt we were dressed appropriately, me in a dress, him in slacks and a button down shirt. They had the outside all decked out for Christmas, which was a really nice touch. We started with two cocktails, which were both amazing. We then ordered a bottle of wine for dinner, and he ordered oysters to start and I had the seafood cocktail. He like the oysters and I enjoyed the seafood cocktail, although, there was mayo or something in the sauce to make it more creamy and pink, so if you are expecting a traditional red cocktail sauce, be aware. Our wine was outstanding, the wine list was very good. For our main courses, I opted for the monkfish curry. This was outstanding! I loved every bite. He had the daily special fish for one, and said it was really good. The most epic ending to our meal was the trifle pudding. Previous to this trip, my partner didn't understand how amazing steamed cakes are, and now, he does. It was perfection. Service was really attentive and formal. This is one of my favorite places in London, classy but not staid, friendly staffs, we went there the first night I arrived. I wanted to try new dishes this time so I ordered razor clams as an appetizer and shared the tuna and sea bass ceviche. Razor reminded of Korean dish with some spices. It was good but didn't top my favorite dish, octopus cappacio. Again I order monk fish and prawn masala instead of my usual either sea bass or John Dory which wasn't available. If you like curry, it's good dish, it has mild flavor but rich. Comes with side rice. We ordered mash potatoes which was creamy and delicious and my favorite dish of the day was aubergine. I am allergic to seafood. So, why would I go to Scott's, a beacon of seafood fine dining? Well, I heard the service was excellent and I remember seeing mentioned on Top Gear once many years ago. I went on a busy Saturday night and found a seat at the bar. The bartenders were very nice and when I told them I was allergic to seafood, they didn't scoff or roll their eyes. They just got on with it. I ordered a cocktail and a salad. My service at the bar was excellent, even though I did not order champagne and lobster. Oh and the salad was excellent, so I imagine that they have sorted out how to cook fish. For non-fish people, they have a selection of steaks as well as a few vegetarian options. The dining room scene was a treat. Very well-heeled London and tourist crowd in a beautifully appointed space. Very buzzy scene and there were some celebrities there the night I went. The food and the ambiance was great. We had two servers. One in uniform and the other in a suit. She, in the uniform was great and working her butt off. The guy in the suit single-handedly brought this review from a solid 5 star review to a two star review. Let's call him the pit boss. The pit boss came after we gave an order for an appetizer to the lady. He acted pissed. He moaned he had. Talk with her. He came back and since we order the seafood tower, he push hard for us to upgrade it to have n additional lobster in it. The tower was £120. The extra lobster was £105. He then disappeared and went n to push a bottle of wine on us. We figured out that this beautiful restaurant pit boss was the up-sell guy. They guy who tries to get your bill as high as possible. the tower was amazing and was enough as a meal for two. It went well beyond and appetizer. I'm 6'4, 250lbs and I was completely satiated and satisfied with the food. He then came over and we were feeling pretty full no he asked what we wanted for the main course no we told him just a half lobster thermidor. His reaction was purely argumentative. It is tiny he said, not enough for one person. We thanked him for the information and said, we are close to full. He insisted we needed to order more and I finally just said, please, just the half order. We did not see him again until the check, where he asked for the card but would not let me see the bill, after I asked, I saw they added. Service charge of 14.5% which is almost a tip that we would give typically at 20%, but strangely they Lao had a cover charge, which brought it up to the 20%. For such nice food and great ambiance, this place has a weird desire to drive bills as high as they can actively with pit bosses over table and these type of shenanigans. My first human encounter with this place is when a snooty, posh accented woman called me to confirm my reservation. She told me it is highly unlikely I would be able to be seated outside because they had requests for those tables before my request and I was fine with that. After telling me this, she then informs me that the minimum spend per table is £75 per person and I said that was fine. Normally we spend over £100 per person when we go out so that amount did not phase me. Its just weird that after telling me that its highly unlikely I'd get a table, why would she then tell me about the minimum spend for outside tables??? Doesn't make sense. These people assume that you are poor over the phone because I have a foreign accent and if they don't see labels on you as you walk through the door they assume you are poor as well and can't afford to eat at their establishment. Extremely classist. I showed up and saw two outside tables empty upon my arrival but I just let it slide and was seated inside. They seated us sandwiched in-between two other tables, up against the wall in a booth type seating and it was a mission to even get in and out of my seat because the space was so small and cramped. Also would like to note that there were people who arrived after us who were seated inside and when I left, I saw the same people now seated at one of the outside tables. They pick and choose who gets the outside tables based on god only knows what. The food was extremely boring, flavourless and bland. The restaurant itself was extremely busy, staff hurrying up and down, not a relaxed atmosphere. All in all this place is nothing but hype and no substance, I came here thanks to their reputation of being an iconic great restaurant but that can't be further from the truth. The inside is also not interesting, the decor is boring but most importantly the food was a complete disappointment. Only good things about this place was the service from waiters and the toilets smell really nice. Don't waste your time with this over hyped and over priced basic restaurant. I loved Scott's. I always have and have made sure to visit every time I am in town. Sadly, that's changed for me. I had a great experience when I dined at Scott's on Sunday and was dreaming about the dessert ever since. I recommended Scott's to all of my colleagues in town and jetted there tonight after a meal at Chiltern firehouse to grab one final dessert before leaving town. I was denied being able to sit at the bar and have dessert by the bald gentleman in glasses behind the front desk. Apparently you can only sit at the half empty bar on a Thursday at 22:00 if you're purchasing at least one entree per guest. The guy wouldn't budge and when I asked if I could order dessert to go, I was again denied. It was my last night in London and what was meant to be the cherry on top of this visit instead created a sour taste in my mouth. It's a shame that a restaurant isn't hospitable and can't make an exception to provide desserts within an hour of closing when the likelihood of someone wanting a meal and not having a seat is slim. read more

Absolutely worst service experience in London. Okay. We were going to be about 20 minutes late for our 7:30 PM reservation. We tried to called ahead, couldn't get through. When we arrived at 7:45, a bitchy hostess first made us wait for almost 10 minutes only to tell us that she gave away our table. She claimed that she couldn't reach us. There were no missed calls on our mobile! After a little while they seated us anyway. The food wasn't bad, but enjoyment was already impaired and it only got worse. At 8:40 one of the hostesses told us that we couldn't get dessert because the table was booked again at 9:00. Not pleased, we asked for the check. The check came quickly, but for the next 25 minutes, no one bothered to pick up the cash and return the change - I guess the 9:00 party didn't show. Lucky them. - A tip of one penny seemed adequate. There is a lot more detail to the experience that isn't worth reciting, but Scott's is ready for Brexit and Europe will be better for it. read more

Had dinner at Scott's this week...here are my thoughts: Ambiance is great. The restaurant is beautiful, well lit, and very clean. Service is also great. Our party of 7 was well taken care of and food came out relatively quickly. Food was overall quite good. My John Dory was perfectly cooked and the accompaniments were small but prepared well. My husband had Halibut which I thought was excellent, but he said it wasn't super fresh. Other dinner guests enjoyed their lobster, seabass, and shrimp. I didn't taste those so I can't comment, but they certainly looked delicious. Prices are quite high so be prepared! Overall I think Scott's is good in every way except for their unnecessarily high prices. We may return since we stay nearby. read more

This place lives up to my fellow Yelpers' prior raves. It is a rather pricey, upscale place, a true restaurant for grown-ups. Yet it is relaxed and conducive to conversation. It attracts a nicely dressed, mostly middle-aged crowd. I was visiting London and had dinner with a former colleague who was in town for her company. We started with the potted shrimp and the chargrilled squid. The former was delicious, a heap of tiny shrimp mixed with anchovies, butter and herbs, salty and delectable spread on the toasts with which it was served. The squid was perfect, tender and nicely charred at the edges. We both had dover sole, but prepared in two different ways, both off the bone. She had hers simply grilled and mine was sauteed and served with a decadently buttery meuniere sauce. That was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever eaten. So firm and perfectly cooked. Mmmmm. I also had a side order of creamed spinach that easily bested the versions I have had a t some really good US steakhouses. We finished the meal with a truly outstanding dessert, the plum pie. This is no normal fruit pie, mind you. It is an individual, round pie with the crispest, sweetest pastry encasing ripe, luscious end-of-summer plums that retained some of their structure and all of their sweet juice. A dessert to be remembered! I loved this place. The service is highly competent - polite without being overly intrusive. If I had to nitpick about one small thing, it was the wait before we had to ask for the bill. A small qualm! Scotts for me is the ultimate place to go for a snazzy night out in Central London. From the moment you walk in you're blown away by the scale and buzz of the place. The oyster bar situated in the middle, the sumptuous decor. It's a real class restaurant. The menu is a great mixture of old classics and the odd fun thing. Stargazey Pie always delivers. But if you want a simply griddled turbot with hollandaise you can get that too, although you pay for it. Extensive wine list, busy but professional waiters (they could be a bit friendlier in my book) and a place that you can sit back and watch the glitterati of Mayfair do their thing in stylish and comfortable surroundings. A real treat. Very expensive. Birthdays and special occasions only I would suggest unless you're minted. But every trip there has been a good one for me. read more
