This place is just Dennys masquerading as another entity. Don't bother ordering on Postmates or DoorDash

It came with a perfectly toasted garlic roll that complemented the meal so well. My friend ordered the Heights Sandwich and absolutely loved it. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. I would definitely recommend ordering ahead for pickup. There's also a parking lot behind the deli, which makes picking up your order quick and convenient. I'll definitely be back!

So it's quite the coup that I finally made it on over to the Heights DABS! A slice of that 18 inch pie is on the brain today as I skip up the mini-staircase into the joint. Having just come from another not-to-be-named Pizza spot in the DTLA to NELA corridor, my hangdog face belies my energetic hoppin-pep-in-the-step into Heights, shaking off a droopy and disappointingly dry slice amidst the brain-bleeding profanity laced hate-punk screaming over that joint's speakers as I sized up the Margherita I always use as an avatar to benchmark how we dooooin' in the pizza quality and taste department no matter where I go. I confess I've been captured and SPOILED by love affairs with Greek Pizza in Boston, Deep Dish in Chicago, NYC greezy gooey goodness at 3am, and of course the ultimate seduction of sublime simplicity of the Neapolitan Pizzas of Napoli. Yes, I am a sucker for the traditional brick oven Margheritas and Bufalinas of Italia, just that simple barometer of OG greatness, minimalistic bliss. Less than 5 bucks and 10 min later, I'm ambling down said teeny stairs with a large warm white cardboard box that seems far too large for a mere SLICE. Have they made a packaging error? I was expecting a small thin wilty Dixie plate! These days, we don't wanna waste cardboard, do we? Driving off, I contemplate a spot to pull over along the Arroyo Seco to enjoy my dining behind the wheel. I just can't hold in my wondering, patience is definitely NOT a virtue when curiosity is just killing this Jazz Cat. A quick stop at a red light later, I can't hold it in any longer. FLIP. UP. THAT. LID! Daaaaaaammmnnnn! That is one MONSTROUS slice, as I slyly smile in astonishment! But my sly smile slowly segues to sadness, then semi-panicked confusion, disorientation, even! For THIS is not the Margherita one familiarly recognizes as the artistic minimalistic masterpiece a proper Neapolitan Margherita MUST BE! I am starting to get anxious, angsty, and now a bit ANGRY! what a fool I was! Instead I am misled into chow down mode to consume a Godzilla-sized molten mess of mossy dry basil haphazardly strewn about to and fro across the pie, resembling katsuo bonito flakes dancing around in the disarray of their differential dehydration! Inexplicably, jagged rows of somewhat square Roma tomatoes are lined up in lazy formations like a disorganized military company. What's more, the gooey globs of mozzarella are NOT expertly anchored down to the bed of cheese below, supposed to cling to the pie while providing just enough protruding relief like an old globe map with a mountain range rising above the horizon. Nope, they are instead here and there and almost everywhere, seemingly untethered to the matrix of cheese below, chaotically floating around like slightly rectangular glops of pale possible goodness?!!? JT, hold it together, you must attack this mess while it's still hot. Beep Beep! THE LIGHT HAS TURNED GREEN MANY SECONDS AGO! Get thee to the Arroyo! Minutes later, I'm at my perch. I bite into the unruly beast. I am pleasantly greeted by a most satisfying CRUNCH! Then a chewy tug-tremendous! Then the mass of basil flakiness flying through my mouth and down the hatch, chased by those deeeelish misshapen untethered white cubes o' cheesiness charging down my throat aside tons of tumbling tomatoes! It's an absolute avalanche of WOW! It's like there's a party in my mouth, and the most unlikely heroes showed up and showed out! Let's add the Unconventional Neapolitanical Pizzas of Lincoln Heights to the Lovefest List! Heights DABS, you've made my day. On to meet up with long lost friends converging in HP from nearby points dearly loved, I'm feelin' GRRRREEEEAT! DONE.

It wasn't unusual for me to get a few sandwiches on a weekly basis way back when. I am very happy that Cook's Tortas is still around. I have tried every sandwich on their board. My favorite has always been the Bombero #6. It is grilled tender steak with a red pepper sauce and avocados. The bread is a sourdough Ciabatta style roll which is made fresh daily. One side comes with the sandwich. This time I chose the Ham and Cheese Macaroni Salad. For dessert, I always get Great Grandmother's Corn Cake. Everything tasted very fresh. There was ample beef in the sandwich. The corn cake was not too sweet and the guava jelly on top enhanced the cake well. A pineapple-orange aqua fresca was a good, refreshing beverage accompaniment. Service was very friendly and exemplary. The food was prepared quickly and brought out to me. Prices are much higher now than before; more than doubled so this would be considered a special treat for me if I am in the area.

Pillowy soft and toasted bread with thick cuts of lengua, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and mustard nestled inside. The flavors are phenomenal! It also comes with a side and I always choose the Ham and Cheese Macaroni! I'm not kidding when I say I can eat the Ham and Cheese macaroni every single day and sometimes I order just a large bowl of it! I love that you can also upgrade the size of the sides to a bigger bowl. The sandwiches can be pricey, but honestly so worth it because of how big the portions are. Customer service is always top tier! The staff are always so kind and will answer any questions you have. Huge perk that you can also call in ahead of time to place your order and they offer curbside pick up. If you want to dine in, simply order at the cashier and they'll call you when your food is ready. Lots of seating inside and very clean. Free parking lot available too. Cook's Tortas will always have my heart and I will continue to recommend it to everyone I know!

The purple cabbage was so good, the coleslaw wasn't my personal favorite but my husband loved it, the four bean salad was absolutely mouthwatering, and the marinated mushrooms were also delicious. I'm genuinely so glad we have leftovers for tomorrow because I'll definitely be thinking about that bean salad again. We'll absolutely be back!

You can make any of their sandwiches into a combo plate for $3 more you get 2 sides (Mombo Meal). Their sides were good but not amazing, personally will be sticking to just their sandwiches. JALAPENO STACK -sooo good! Roast beef, turkey breast and Italian dry salami paired well together. Avocado added perfect creaminess. Their Cheesy Jalapeno Snack Bread is amazing, top had just the right amount of crisp from being toasted. FRUMENTO'S GRILLED PHILLY -opted for half roast beef and half smoked turkey breast and it was just what I needed. Solid hot sandwich. TASTE OF ITALY -a classic cold cut sandwich, it was good but their hot sandwiches were much better. Desserts were a hit or miss here. Tried the Strawberry Cheese cake and that was really good- creamy, airy and not too sweet. Tiramisu was a bust- mainly vanilla cake, bit too sweet, no espresso flavor, cream didn't have any mascarpone cheese flavor at all.

The kitchen closes at 9pm but the golf course closes at 11pm and thankfully they said we can stay a little longer since it's outside seating. I ordered the Seollongtang soup which my kid devoured haha it was super yummy! Would definitely get that again. She also got the hotdog and we got to try the corn dog that my friend ordered too. Also got the matcha latte. My other friend got the veggie bibimbap. All yummy and everyone got to try a lot of things on the menu which there was nothing but positive feedback for. It consisted of lettuce, avocado, corn, black beans, jicama, tomatoes, onion, quinoa, krispies, kale, cilantro, and cotija. The lettuce wasn't too fresh and there were some that were yellow green but not a big deal. It was packed with flavor even without the chipotle vinaigrette (relieved I got it on the side because I wasn't s big fan). The avocado was very fresh and plentiful. I added chicken for extra $4.74 and it was very tender! Overall, I enjoyed the salad but a bit pricey so it was a good one time experience! The Chicken Pesto Caprese ($14.10) was pretty good. It consisted of chicken, mozzarella, red peppers, pesto, and mixed greens. The greens were very fresh and the sandwich was packed with flavor. The chicken was a little dry but not a big deal. There was a lot of red pepper and it was a bit overwhelming so I wished there wasn't so much. Really enjoyed the pesto since it it wasn't too salty and was the cherry on top to the sandwich! I also really liked that the bread was soft and fresh. Got the "Not so Fried" Chicken Sandwich ($13.68) - 1/2 portion and it came with a side (paid extra $1.26) for tomato basil soup. It consisted of chicken, krispies, mustard pickle slaw, tomatoes, onions, and herb aioli. The bread was very fresh and soft. I'm glad I got this in half portion because I thought this was just ok and nothing special. The tomato basil soup was very oily and salty so wasn't too enjoyable. The Pomegranate Mint Lemonade ($5.10) was sooo sweet. It was refreshing but the mint was a little too overpowering. Definitely recommend adding ice and/or water otherwise it's way too sweet! Overall, the sandwich and salads were a bit pricey but definitely one of the better spots for sandwiches and salads in terms of quality and quantity!
