We've been purchasing our holiday meats from this place. Unfortunately, this is the second time that our experience was disappointing. I specifically asked for a center cut ribeye roast. My mistake was not to check the piece at the store. The price was steep and it is NOT a center cut. Will not be my choice again. read more

Walked by this place when I was out on a stroll and had to stop in to see what was up. They have a very clean, bright interior with a selection of meats, grocery, sauces and broths. I decided to order a NY strip steak and the butcher expertly cut it in front of me. I love that it was carved to order in front of me and I was included in the process down to the thickness of the steak and the preferred cut I wanted. Very clean and fast service. Came to buy ethically and sustainable, as well as support local business - got their house bacon, dry-aged burgers, bratwurst, and a quart of their bone broth. All came out fine. They have a decent selection of meat, produce, cheese, and other items like ghee, turmeric. Definitely not cheap but it's convenient when you're in a pinch! read more

I have been living in my neighborhood in Williamsburg Brooklyn NY since 1996. I seldom would go to a butcher shop, to get my meats, as I would go the supermarket in my neighborhood or in the city and get my groceries and meats there. Ever since Covid Times I started to go to Meat Hook on Graham Ave. My first visit there, I was so pleased to see the selection of meats that they carry there. I was also shocked to see all the produce, fruits and vegetables that they carry. I love Spices , so was one happy camper to be able to purchase additional spices for my spice collection,as I religiously use spices when cooking my dishes. I continue to shop at Meat Hook, even up till now,as they are a Lifesaver for me. I recently had to cook an Italian dish, Chicken Cacciatore for my niece Goddaughter Nena on Thanksgiving Day I had purchased five chicken legs and thighs for my meal. The meat was so fresh and tender, I was so pleased, in hence , my dish was excellent. My niece commented , as to the quality of my meats, as she was there while I was cooking this meal. I also purchased ground pork and beef, Lamb Sausage, Steak Tenderloin which was most excellent when I sauteed it with onions. I was in heaven eating that meal On occasion I buy their Italian Sweet Sausage as it is delicious.... Whenever in this neighborhood come by and check out Meat Hook, you will be pleasantly surprised. Disappointed by the cuts. First time I went on Sunday afternoon they ran out of all steaks, which I thought was bizarre but forgave for possibly selling out over the weekend Second time I went on a Sat afternoon. I was surprised they didn't have rib eyes or any premium cuts. Instead I was offered delmonico, ranch and there was one strip. The stop was delicious but the delmonico and ranch were huge disappointments - Lean equates to tough in this case. This butcher shop is so Williamsburg, but in the most wonderful way. Clean, bright, and staffed with some of the nicest people I've ever met operating a meat saw. And although not necessarily important to those just looking to buy meat, I especially loved that there are female butchers working here. Gender roles have no place here! The selection of meat products is quite impressive, ranging from ground beef to chicken liver mousse. They also have a decent selection of produce, dairy products (milk, eggs, cheese), and sauces/marinades. What really sets The Meat Hook apart is that all of their meats are antibiotic- and hormone-free. That said, you can expect to pay more for your chops here because they are of higher quality. Fortunately, you're not just paying for peace of mind; the meats are actually really delicious! I brought home a dry aged NY strip and cooked it up with nothing but s&p, and it was soo juicy and flavorful. COVID/pandemic era review: Went to The Meat Hook for takeout. Cool, clean place that looks like it would be very pleasant to dine at. Ordered the burger ($20) and Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts were delicious and had a crispy topping on it that made them even more awesome. At $20, had very high expectations for the burger, especially coming from a butcher/meat shop. Comes only in medium rare (as it should) with cheese, special sauce, and onions/pickles. It was superb, and you can tell it was very high quality meat. Cooked to perfection and a well-executed medium rare. Seemed a tad pricy for the portion size but the quality was awesome though. Great burger, comes with fries also. All in all a solid burger and solid place in Williamsburg! There's a lot of other things on the menu that sounded delicious as well. read more

Grew up in this neighborhood, usually when I go back to my old neighborhood I purchase sausage at Emily's pork store down the block and they do have the Best Sausage Ever since Emily's pork store was closed that Sunday when I was in the neighborhood and the Meat Hook was open I decided to give this place a chance. I purchase 2 lb of hot sausage it cost me over $35 Overpriced and the sausage was the Worst Sausage I've ever tasted in my life, the sausage was dry salty no flavor and by the way it was Not Hot, it was like eating cardboard. As you can see from the photo I did not overcook, it it was cooked perfectly. I don't know about the other product they sell the only thing I can give you a review on is the quality of there shortage. read more

I love the concept of the Meat Hook that sources it's meat from local, family-owned farms in NYS and is grass fed. I assumed prices would reflect the high quality but I've found their prices very fair and sometimes less than other Brooklyn butcher shops I've shopped at. One of the last times I was there I bought a "flavor bomb" for $3 to use when cooking my rib eye steaks! It looks like a hunk of butter with fresh herbs but it's actually marrow and maybe fat for basting? Some of the meat we have gotten hasn't always been the most tender and some of the cuts have been very fatty requiring cutting lots off before eating but it's still overall high quality with great customer service so I continue to come back. read more

Artisian market specializing in meat with great sausages indeed. Across multiple visits, sampled the Long Dong, Chorizo, Fennel and Garlic, Sweet Italian and Summer Sausages. All were really meaty with a 70/30 ratio that really seemed less fatty than expected. For some of these, I simmered with a pint of Guinness and some sautéed onions and green peppers. In other instances, I grilled them. Doesn't matter which ones you get or how you do them, they are all great. They have some ground meat conveniently shrink packaged in the freezer as well, some with unique Asian flavors, and some without the sausage casing as well. The prices for various items definitely isn't cheap but the quality of the meat and the cleanliness of the shop in general, certainly seems to warrant the additional price point. read more

I had been hearing about this place for ages and finally made it here. 1. They had very little beef left. So I guess maybe not an ideal time. They gave me the only piece of Delmonico steak they had , saying it is something like a ribeye 2. I cooked the steak the way I normally do - reverse sear. WOW! I was walking to the train having just attended a great friend's memorial at a funeral home close by and this store front and name got my attention so I went in. My friend's daughter said not to wear white but opt for bright colors to celebrate the life of Michel Marriott so I wore a bold, pink floral shirt and the staff really cheered me up. The last thing I expected was to buy pork shoulder and short ribs on my way back to Manhattan but what a treat. Greg has a stellar personality and was super knowledgeable. I was happy to know that he sourced the meat from two NY state farms and that the meat was aged. The quality of the service and meat are both top notch. I've been going to the meat hook for years and love them. The meat isn't "cheap" but since I know I'm getting sustainable, ethical meat, I think it's worth it. They also make a spectacular chicken liver mousse and the sausages are amazing, especially the merguez and the Parmesan sausage. I ordered their burger for the first time tonight, and it was GREAT and also came in half an hour instead of the hour they thought it would take, which I was very grateful for because I was starving! It was extremely juicy and flavorful, and the fries were also fantastic--fatter than fast food fries but still in that style. I also really enjoyed the Brussels sprouts side. They were slightly sweet, which typically I don't go for, but in this setting it worked--the sesame and mustard flavor added the savory, rich components that balanced it out. I'll be getting this delivery regularly. Now I just need to try the hot chicken sandwich. read more

After moving away from their Brooklyn Kitchen digs where I've purchased their top-notch meats, they have a sparkling new location not too far away from the original location. The space is divided into four parts: the butcher counter, the produce area, the jarred goods, and then the bread/check-out counter. The butcher takes up a bulk of it with the glass case displaying the gorgeous variety of meats. There is also a fridge which stores some of their flavored sausages like the beautiful red beet sausages. For vegetable fanatics, the produce area has high-quality vegetables too. It isn't an enormous selection but there are options especially to accompany your meat. In addition to the produce area, there is a section dedicated to all things dairy including delectable cheese! Much like their original location, the staff here knows their stuff. From cooking the meat to how to prepare it. You can't go wrong with the service here. Very nice butcher shop, like back in the "old" days, using brown butcher paper to wrap your meat, a few choice grocery products like high quality or gourmet mayo, salt, oil, cheese, etc. Clean shop, friendly service and no "meat" smell wafting. The place is only missing sawdust on the floor. This was my first time here and just wanted to try their burgers for me & my kid. Got 3 pre-made hamburger which came individually wrapped in plastic wrap, probably to keep them from oxidizing and turning dark. Burgers were thick and had nice weight to them, about 6 oz. each. The hamburgers didn't break apart and cooked up nice on my grill. They were moist but I didn't think anything special about the taste; just tasted like ground chuck. I've had hamburgers where they've mixed chuck and brisket, etc. which to me are tastier. That said, good burgers and I'll be back to try other butcher products. read more

Meat. Amazing Meat. Manly Meat. So much Meat. When you walk in, there's this sound of angels singing as you look at the meat. Or maybe that's just in my head. I can't write this review without mentioning the service though. Leah and Caitlin (sp?) are fantastic about putting up with me, my 6-year old daughter, and the pack of other North Brooklyn dad's who stumble in with me a couple of Sundays a month when it's nice enough to BBQ. It's not just their customer service, though - these two and the other folks behind the counter (sorry I don't remember everyone's names) are so knowledgeable about their product it's almost intimidating. They will custom cut anything for you, and even let you order in advance so your meat is freshly butchered and wrapped right before you take it home to cook it. Highlights: Both their Prime Rib and the bone-in Pork Loin rack are amazing on the grill - especially if you have a rotisserie (which you should have if you deserve any respect as a grillmaster). Every steak is amazing - literally every single one. Also surprisingly, their house smoked bacon is absolutely the best thick cut bacon I've ever had - it's so good I would consider changing the name of the Borough from Brooklyn to Meat Hook Bacon if I was in charge of such things. Been going to this local butcher shop since they were in the back of a grocer and I have loved, even more, going to there new shop. I love the meats, so having a great butcher shop with really solid prices is key. Meat Hook is the best. I've been in a few dozen times and they always deliver, no matter who I'm talking too, always super knowledge and friendly! I've really appreciated the addition of bone broth in the colder months (if you've never had it, think super rich savory soup broth deliciousness) Last visit I got a big steak for me and my lady and was really happy with the flavor. It was a dry aged porterhouse and although I've been in a lot this maybe was the first time I've sprung for the "top shelf" meats and I must say it will have to be a more regular thing now that I've experienced it. Five stars for charcuterie, four stars plus for meats so round up to 5. The sausages here are excellent, whether its boerwors, bratwurst or some Asian style concoction - quality meat in there, nice seasoning, good construction, nothing that shouldn't be present. I'm also sold on their country pate - pate de campagne, well seasoned, just the right amount of fat. One thing to note is if you want one of the lux cuts - a rib steak or porterhouse - those are not on display but are cut to order. They did a beautiful job on a cote de boeuf I had recently, although it was a little chewier than I prefer. Excellent deep flavor. Ground lamb has been good, and this is a place to trust for your hamburger meat. A whole chicken was on the small side, with its giblets absent, but roasted up well. You will also find some organic produce, pricey but of good quality and maybe a nice baguette for that pate. Overall, a smaller selection than Los Paisanos, but what they do, they do quite well. read more

Had the pleasure of taking a 'class' with Sam on the beef shoulder. Honestly was one of the most unique and memorable experiences I've had since I moved to the city 12 years ago. Sam was very friendly and knowledgeable; fielding questions from each audience member while simultaneously demonstrating the art of ethical butchery. I've gotten some really good dry aged steaks from here. The prices aren't that bad for the steaks but 90% of the produce is extremely expensive. The ribeye I got from here is probably one of the best steaks I've ever made. Very dense beef flavor. It wasn't the fattiest ribeye I've ever gotten which I actually prefer. This burger was very tasty and enjoyable, but was a little on the smaller size for the $17 pricetag. I'm not sure where they source their beef from or how they dry age it but I swear its better than prime. The beef has a nice robust flavour and the hamburger I made from their dry aged ground beef is probably the best I've ever made at home.
