At 6pm on a Sunday evening, we were lucky to grab a spot in front. We sat at the bar which is just inside the entrance. The main room has various tables and chairs in the center, and Victorian style chairs and couches along the front and side walls. There's a small stage area in the back where they host a lot of events. There's also some outdoor patio seating and an event room upstairs. There were good mellow vibes on a non-event night, and there was good music playing. They also have some Halloween décor up. I started out with the Ooogie Boogie (Proper Twelve Apple Irish Whiskey, Manzanilla sherry, Mela apple liqueur, Luxardo del Santo, green apple juice, simple syrup, $15). This was absolutely delicious and not sweet at all. It has a few layers of crisp, slightly tart, apple flavor. You would never guess this is an Irish whiskey cocktail. She started out with the Deadly Nightshade (butterfly peaflower-infused Centanario Plata tequila, Tott's Champaigne, Crème de Violette, Van Gough Blueberry & Acai vodka, Salers gentian amaro, butterfly peaflower syrup, lime super-juice, $15). This drink is pretty large, is well balanced, and has some complexity. She loved it. We shared Jack, The Pumpkin King (400 Conejos mezcal, triplum, chipotle-pumpkin syrup, lime super-juice, $15). This was a solid mezcal margarita with a light pumpkin flavor and a hint of heat. The rim is a mix of cinnamon, turbinado sugar, and salt which was tasty. Bartender Zoe was awesome! She was so friendly, and we enjoyed discussing cocktails and various other topics with her. All three drinks were great, and a bargain at only $15. We will definitely return soon to try out some of their regular menu cocktails.

I am only now coming to share an official review on Yelp due to how this establishment treated me…read moreon TikTok. Folks should be aware this place is capable of treating you with disrespect in person, then when you mention the poor treatment in a TikTok comment, they'll respond without taking accountability and dismissing your experience. They will then ultimately block you - presumably because too many people liked your comment. You guys, that's embarrassing. You need to do better. My comment was completely respectful and an honest concern for how I was treated the one time I ventured in with a friend. Deleting feedback you don't like, customer concerns, and then further blocking those people (I hadn't written anything else. I only noticed because I clicked on the notification that someone liked my comment and saw I was now blocked) makes you look shady and guilty. I'm not a bot, and I explained a very real, possibly discriminatory experience at your bar. If anyone reading would like to know the experience: It was October 21, 2024. A Monday. I should've written this review then but I didn't have anything nice to say, and didn't want to trash this place when it seemed they were struggling due to what the bartender said. I was going through a really tough time, having just canceled my wedding about a month earlier. It was my first outing after a month+ of deep depression. My friend came to rescue me and take me out. I had been meaning to try this place since moving to Long Beach. It was fairly early in the evening, probably around 8pm or so and it was pretty slow. There was music and two couples dancing. We grabbed a table and I went to the bar to get us drinks. As I stood at the bar, some guys had come up alongside me to wait as well. The bartender looked over me and promptly took their orders. I barely had any emotion left in me at the time so I didn't care, and just waited to be next. However, I waited. And waited. And waited. The bartender seemed to be intentionally ignoring me (now the only person standing at the bar). I watched him busy himself with other drinks for the tables, for the guys, and continue to ignore me. Time ticked by and I started to wonder if I was doing something wrong. My friend kept looking over at me from the table like what is taking so long? Minutes and minutes passed as I stood there awkwardly, being blatantly ignored. After a long stretch of time, the bartender quickly said something in my direction like, "If you want to order you're going to have to go to the other end of the bar." I said, "Oh ok thank you." And walked to the other end of the bar. From this point, I was ignored and talked about (full male bar staff) without being looked at. They rudely discussed in front of me how I was standing there, and how each one of them wasn't going to take my order. It had been over a half hour at this point, and I was the only one who had been standing at the bar. It was a slow Monday night. Because I was a broken hearted loser at the time, I started to tear up. Why was I being treated like this? Am I not someone they want in their bar? Is this place not queer or woman friendly?? Why is every other person getting served, while I am blatantly dismissed? After almost 40 minutes, the bartender on that end told me he wasn't going to take my order, and I'd have to go back to the other side again. I quietly walked back over to the other side, feeling so embarrassed and just wanting to leave. It was ridiculously clear I wasn't welcome here, though I had no idea why. I remained standing there for maybe another 10 minutes. The original guy finally relented and begrudgingly took my drink order. He was standoffish at first, until he realized I wasn't upset about any of it. He started to apologize, saying he was brand new, and told me some of the staffing issues they had had that night. He seemed stressed. He recognized he had served the guys before me, and I had been ignored for way too long. He apologized again, and poured us an extra shot in our drinks to make up for the poor treatment. The drinks honestly were terrible lol, but I can only complain about so much. Plus he gave us double the alcohol, so I guess I was grateful. We left immediately after and went somewhere else. I haven't been back since. I wish I could share screenshots of my TikTok comment with the owner's dismissive reply, so you could see for yourselves whether you think that deserved being blocked. She even liked one of my reels from my page? Very odd. People are going to share the truth about their experiences at your establishment, and for you to deny that and block them is wild. You could've responded in a very different way, but you chose to be defensive and shady. That's on you.

The experience was amazing. Speaking of Speakeasy! First, if you don't want to (most likely) get turned away, you will definitely need to make a reservation on OpenTable a few days before. Parking around the area was tough, but you may find a spot if you circle around the blocks. You will need to arrive early to look for parking. When you arrive, you will see the Mexican restaurant El Barrio Cantina. You will want to walk into the alley on the left, then you will see the door with a lantern on your left. Congrats, you have arrived! Knock on the door and tell them your reservation. The bar was popular. Their reservations were all full for the night. Their cocktails were amazing, creative, delicious, and Tokyo-inspired. I love their cool menu design. The bartender was friendly and made some nice recommendations. I had a Meguro River. It's creamy and pretty with floral decorations, served in a mini pot. The Okinawan Gimlet is in cool green. They even have alcoholic gummies and alcoholic shaved ice on menu. They do have a time limit of 1.5 hours seating. I can't wait to come back again.

We sat at the bar, and I expected to receive service from the bartender, but he didn't acknowledge us for the entire night. Instead, our server took our order. After a while, she informed us that the crispy rice we ordered was sold out. She mentioned that the bartender was supposed to let us know, but he never did. What made the experience more uncomfortable was that the bartender seemed to be giving most of his attention to the Caucasian customers on the other side of the bar. We were the only Asian customers there, and unfortunately, this left us feeling like we were being treated differently because of our race. The good food and drinks helped compensate for the poor service, so we decided not to let it ruin our evening. However, things got even more disappointing at the end. After I paid, I noticed that I had been charged for the crispy rice even though we never received it. When our server tried to address the issue, the bartender appeared to ignore both her and us, so we eventually left. I hope management sees this review and reaches out to me to address the overcharge and the overall experience. Overall, although the food and drinks were good, the service and the way we were treated left a very negative impression. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.

FIVE STARS IS FOR THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE NOT THE FOOD…read more My friend and I had a good time at the lre- opening night of The Bungalow Kitchen. My friend is a chef, so I really wanted her to experience the new menu with me. First, I have to give credit where credit is due. the customer service was top tier! We were greeted as soon as we walked up, and all of the ladies were so welcoming and nice. The bartenders were super nice as well, as was the GM. And of course, the aesthetic of The Bungalow never fails. The space is beautiful and definitely still has that Bungalow vibe. Our waiter, Devin, was great too! Now, on to the food... sadly, we were pretty underwhelmed. I hate that I have to agree with some of the Instagram comments I had seen about the kitchen because I really expected better, especially with all the hype surrounding Chef Eric and the new menu. One thing that really irked me was that our order of broccolini came out before everything else and sat there for about 20 minutes before our entrees arrived. Our waiter was kind enough to send out another order of broccolini once our entrees came, which I appreciated. They initially added it to the bill, but removed it once I mentioned it. The lasagna honestly tasted like something I could pick up already made from Whole Foods. The pork chop was cooked well, but it lacked flavor. The artichoke dish... I don't even really know what to say. The presentation wasn't great, and we kept pulling pieces of the shell out of our mouths, which was annoying. We had a couple of bites and just did away with it. The mussels were good, but there weren't very many. Mussels are pretty inexpensive, so it would have been nice to have a bit more, especially since they are small. The sauce had good flavor, and we ordered the baguette to dip into it, but it wasn't really a sauce in the traditional sense because it was pretty thin. I think it could have had more substance, especially considering they encourage you to spend $12 on a baguette to dip into it. One other thing I noticed was that Chef Eric was visiting some of the tables around us but never came over to ours. Maybe those were family and friends, so who knows, but considering there were barely any people in the restaurant, I do think it would have been nice for him to make his way around to all of the tables, especially on opening night. I will definitely be back to The Bungalow because I love the space, the people and the drinks. I'm just not sure if I'll be back for dinner. I'm willing to try some of the less expensive items and see how those are. Our dinner bill was around $250, in addition to the $40 we spent at the bar before sitting down. Unfortunately, for us, the food just wasn't worth the bill. Overall, we had a great experience with the staff and the atmosphere, but the food didn't live up to the expectations I had going in. Hopefully, some of these things improve because I really do want to see the kitchen succeed.

They reminded us why we missed this concept from them so much all these years, welcome back! From the host team when we arrived to our waiter Tiffany (who was amazing), the crew here was warm and welcoming. We were at their soft opening so we expected things to be a little rough, but there were moments we actually forgot they weren't "fully opened" yet because it was pretty dialed in already. Minor things are still being worked out but honestly, they were hardly noticeable. Now, let's get down to what I'm sure you're waiting for... the food and the drinks. Without burying the lead, Chef Eric Samaniego and his team did their thing. For a starter we had the Hamachi Crudo which was un-friggin-believable. No joke, it was seriously legit. One of the best presentations of this dish I've had so far... for reals. My wife gave it a 10, I gave it an 11 (yes, I loved it that much). For our mains, we shared the Steak Frites and the Lobster Cavatelli. Tiffany also recommended we try a side of the Broccolini, and we are so glad we did because it was so delicious - 10/10. The Steak Frites were very good. The steak was prepared just right and the frites were seasoned nicely with the beef tallow. We gave it a 9 /10. The Cavatelli was solid, but it was probably the biggest opportunity of the bunch. I enjoyed it but wish I could taste more of some of the other flavors, the tomatoes seemed to overpower it some. We gave it a 7/10. In addition to the dishes, I also enjoyed a Roku gin gimlet which was totally on point. They have a full bar and talented mixologists so you can pretty much get what you want though. Finally, the recognizable vibe that we've come to love at the Bungalow remains. They've added nice new furniture and other touches that give it a comfortable, upscale, yet welcoming vibe. All-in-all, we are excited for what the Bungalow Kitchen has in store and look forward to coming back soon!

First impression, why did we need reservations.... Since we didn't know the hidden entrance. Well, it's a cool concept once we entered. There's a dress code so be advised. What I found out was the entrance of the speakeasy was through a phone booth that next to the pool table of Roxanne's bar. Once reservations is made, you'll received an email with a password to enter. Enter phone booth and to connect to the inside and they'll open the door for you. We had the first reservations I believe they opened at 7pm. We were the first group to arrive. As it was my first time, we had ordered bar food and were waiting for it inside the main bar. So half an hour was used from our time limit. The speakeasy, dark and moody but perfect for the place. Special crafted cocktails by the bartenders which were great. They also have food as well, found out later. We did try the meat pie, which it was just ok. Basically an empanadas, the pickle veggies accompanied it was my favorite. It was good but nothing major to rave about. The drinks were quite nice and tasty. What they offered on the menu did have a load of good choices. Tables scattered throughout as well as bar seating. There's a piano which maybe used for live music. Overall, the moody speakeasy vibe was great. Friendly staff and bartender made some great drinks. What we had to snack on, the meat pie was just ok. It's clear the owners put a lot of thought and creativity into making their cocktails the centerpiece of the experience. That said, the execution didn't live up to the concept. The menu appears to rotate regularly, and while the drinks were certainly unique, most of the cocktails we tried were hit or miss. At roughly $22 per drink, I expected more balance and refinement. One cocktail started with flavors reminiscent of an Old Fashioned, but after the initial sip, the combination of bitters and fruit syrups created an unpleasant cough syrup like finish. We tried a mocktail as well, and it was mostly ice and soda water, with what seemed like a collection of syrups doing most of the heavy lifting. The drinks were creative, but many of the flavor profiles felt disjointed rather than intentional. The biggest issue, however, was the bar service and sanitation practices. I watched a bartender place a cucumber garnish into a glass using his bare hands, touching the entire garnish in the process. He then continued to take credit cards, cash, and other items before stuffing ice into additional drinks with his bare hands. Whether or not this technically violates health code standards, it certainly wasn't appetizing to watch and left a poor impression. Parking is another challenge. There is no dedicated parking, and unless you get lucky, expect to park several blocks away and walk. Overall, the atmosphere is a lot of fun and the cocktail menu is ambitious, but the drinks didn't justify the price point, and the sanitation concerns were hard to overlook. I wouldn't rush back, especially given the cost and parking difficulties.
