If you go to one bar/whiskey bar...make it the Malt Room. It's a speakeasy down an alley and looks very unassuming from the outside. However, once you go in you are transported into another entire setting. Very chic, modern cool vibe with great service and an incredible selection of whiskey. Don't take my word for it...they have the best Whiskey Bar of Scotland award to show for it. read more

Very disappointing. Was looking for some interesting bottles to take back to the states. These guys I thought could do some samples to help me pick from the bottle store they own across the street. No samples only full pours. One selection they made was a single cask that they had bottled and sure this was promotion. Second was an uber expensive blend. Conclusion is they either don't know whiskey at all or likely just playing the game to part tourists from their $s which seems to be the Inverness norm. Avoid! read more

I love this place, tough to find down an alley, even tougher to find a seat or even a place to stand. I've been her twice and it's always full. A whiskey list to die for and the most knowledgeable bartenders anywhere in the world. My wife got a great cocktail since she doesn't drink whiskey and she claims it was the best she never had. We enjoyed the Malt Room 2 nights in a row. The first night, we were looking for an after dinner dram and found this cozy, intimate space. We enjoyed a dram of Ardbeg before heading home. The next night, we bought tickets to the weekly whiskey gig. Little did we know we were about to have one of our best Scottish nights! We enjoyed a well curated whiskey tasting paired with live Scottish music. The music, the conversation, and the drink were incredible. The staff clearly knows their whiskey and stories. So we were wandering the streets in look of a nice pub for our continued whiskey travels when I spotted this sign down a small close. When we barreled our way into the small door we stumbled into a nicely renovated small whiskey bar with a bar tender who not only loved whiskey but the stories of whiskey. I love knowing how a bottle came to be and what makes it different and interesting in its own story. Seating was comfortable and the atmosphere warm and sophisticated. One of the bar tenders at Scotch and Rye recommended we swing by here after we'd order a tasting of two whiskies from their bar. He said they had a great selection and curated flights. He was right! This little hide away is limited in space so if you are a big party, maybe reconsider. There were two of us and were able to tuck into a corner to order some flights. The staff was attentive, the whisky good, and the informationals about the whiskies in our flight were great. If you like a whisky and an intimate atmosphere, consider stopping here. read more

Although I've been drinking scotch for many years, the proprietor is a guy who really knows his scotches, and is only too happy to help you find the type of scotch that suits you best. Four of us recently spent the afternoon enjoying two scotch flights. It was a wonderful way to discover the flavors that we like, and even the characteristics that we like to avoid. After leaving, we all felt like we came away with a better understanding of the drink and the types and ages of scotch that best suit our taste. The Malt Room is a wonderful bar worth visiting. We walked in here hoping for a high quality Scotch Whiskey bar, we were not disappointed! My wife doesn't drink whiskey and Matt, one of the owners, made her a phenomenal cocktail with whiskey that she loved. He shared a local small batch single malt that was great. We left to finish shopping, but came back later that night for the Tallisker 30 yr and a nice pineapple mojito. Oddly there aren't any Scotch Whiskey bars in Inverness except for this one. The Malt Room was by-far the best whisky bar I have been to in Scotland. I have been traveling around Scotland for some time and grown to love whisky whilst here (how could you not?!). I was looking for a good place to have a night cap. After doing a quick Google search for "Whisky bars near me", I found The Malt Room at the top of my list with a 4.7 rating; outstanding. It was right down town and I thought it would be perfect for a drink. When I arrived, I was greeted with a smile by the bartender. I sat down at the bar and told her I was looking for something local, similar to Aberfeldy. She had me smell the Dalmore, which smelled delicious so I decided to go for it. The owner of the bar, Matt, arrived and took over for her as she joined me to have an after-shift dram herself. We all got to talking, I asked Heather and Matt all sorts of questions about whisky and different distilleries. They were very knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions, while allowing me to smell different types of whisky. Matt also made me a delicious cocktail made out of Japanese whisky, served with a grapefruit. So yummy. The atmosphere of this place is so cozy, from the lights to the wooden walls. You feel right at home here. The prices are fair, whisky delectable, and the customer service outstanding; what more could you ask for? I would definitely recommend you stop in here any chance you get! read more
