Yummy!!! We've been in Great Britain for eight days, and other than the wedding outside of London, this is the best meal we've had. The cocktail menu is extensive and I was impressed with my Blowin Bubbles. Hopefully I can get a picture to attach. The jalapeño poppers were light and crispy. This was the only place serving food post 8pm, the others had closed kitchens. Good spot for bar food- and they do it well. They have some exotic burgers on the menu, but what really stands out is the cocktail list and the menu- it was super cute to go through all the drink 'personalities' and pick the one that you identify with. G and I both got the award winning cocktails and man they were delicious. when we got there they apologized that the kitchen was flooded with orders but we didnt mind the wait since they would get us drinks first. We had a fun server who actually was an award winner for one of the cocktails we tried and he recommended the dirty mac and cheese (I stand by this, it was amazing) and they did sweet potato fries with it. The place is cool looking and upscale hipster. It's like a bar that cleaned up its act. Lots of young trendy looking kids come here and everyone was dressed for an evening out. I came here for dinner on a Monday after a full day tour to Skye. It was busy on a Monday night at 730 and all the tables were full. I am glad I made a reservation because had I not, I wouldn't have been able to get a table. I highly recommend making a reservation. They have a nice cocktail menu with many different options to choose from. I had a gin based cocktail that was refreshing and light after a long day of touring. I tried the haggis bites which were delicious and paired with an aioli dipping sauce. If you are looking to try haggis while I'm Scotland, the haggis bites are a good way to try it. The Macaroni and cheese was a perfect portion and had a good blend of cheeses. You can add different proteins into the Mac and cheese if you choose to do so. It's a modern vibe here. They also have a large handicap accessible bathroom so this is a handicap friendly restaurant. I would highly recommend coming here for dinner. Friendly service and great food and drinks. read more

Thought it would be fun to try an American restaurant while on holiday. Terribly disappointing. Halloumi burger had a blackened fried pickle on top and was basically an unmelted block of cheese. This was an unexpectedly hip find in dreary old Inverness. About 5 years behind the rest of the civilised world, but things happen slowly up in the Highlands! It's a nice hipster-by-numbers kind of atmosphere: bare wood and ironmongery - check. ephemera framed in wacky colours -check. inappropriate receptacles for drinks - check, check and CHECK. Thankfully, my Moscow Mule was served in a proper glass, they must have known I was coming. But my drinking companion's drink was served in a science flask, complete with smoke. Even as a bitter old cynic, I had to admit it was pretty cool. These drinks are not cheap, but they are hard to come by in Inverness, so I suppose you're paying for more than the alcohol. The cocktail menu is a quaint, humorous piece of work, but they could do with simplifying it somewhat. Also of note, as bourbon fans, they have a very good selection of bourbon for such an outpost - some unusual bottles (Woodford Rye), only sorry we didn't get to stay longer to try them out. We did try to return next morning for their "infamous brunch" but despite their Google listing advertising that they open at 11am on Sundays, upon arrival, it turned out they don't open til 12. Hopefully, they'll sort that out soon to avoid anyone else turning up hungry and disappointed, and having to eat at the absolute car crash of a restaurant, the Filling Station, round the corner. read more

On a lightning trip to Inverness to see my friend, we decided (of course) to take in the local bars and beverage purveyors. The women in our party were of the cocktail mood, so Scotch & Rye was suggested as the best local cocktail place. I'm no cocktail connoisseur - lager and lime is usually my limit - but after listening to Stone Cold Steve Austin podcasts and hearing him get *messed* up on margaritas, I had to try one. Not sure what cocktails my friends had, but I know one was non alcoholic, one was gin based... and one was a draft pint of lager. Yes, one of my friends is even less adventurous than me, folks... In any case, my cocktail was pretty damned good. It inspired me to maybe branch out my taste choices in future, and that's no bad thing. Not that night, as I finished my drink and ordered another two pints for me and my philistine friend! Just a word too about the staff. The gent that took care of us was simply amazing. The right mix of helpfulness and sarcasm towards me and Doug's ignorance of cocktails, and did everything he could to make our visit as good as it possibly could have been. We were on a cruise, and had a day to wander Inverness. As usual Yelp headed us to a great place. We happened to be there on the day they were celebrating their two year anniversay, so they had a DJ and some specials. Very nice. The food was good, and the waiter spent a lot of time discussing whiskey with us and guiding me in ordering some of it! Service was friendly and fun. This was the only place we found that sounded like they did craft cocktails so we gave it a whirl. Was torn on how many stars to give but I bumped to 4 because: The whole reason we were there, drinks, were spot on. We had three rounds and enjoyed them all. The people watch was pretty good as well (I'm looking at you, blonde who looked coked up, and group of middle aged people dressed badly that tried taking over a reserved table). Why it could've had a lower rating: It got a little confusing because we had different servers all night and often you'd get multiple people right in a row asking if you wanted anything with long stretches of nobody insight. They name checked Chicago on their menu a few times and once in a very weird way...The Chicago Club. Whyyy?! Even more why when It's right above the "dawg" listings. We are known for our "dragged through a garden" hot dogs. But then their dogs are actually bratwursts. And a brat is NOT a hot dog. It just isn't. Not even a little bit. The drinks menu is a little scattered. You might miss some cocktails listed in the back. And there are more cocktails literally in the back...of the restaurant that aren't on the menu. They also had a lengthily description about a brewery but no description, not a single word, about the beer they were spotlighting from that brewery. Weird. I don't think they've been opened very long (but I could be wrong about that) so hopefully things will only improve for them. read more

After seeing some decent reviews about their food and drinks, we decided to stop here for a quick dinner. Everything about this place was pretty disappointing...I ordered the dirty Mac and cheese with Haggis after reading one reviewer rave about it being the best Mac and cheese they had ever had. The flavour was nice with the haggis but once you finished the haggis, you realized it was just very over done pasta with cheese...little to no seasoning or base to the sauce. Actually, come to think about it, there was no sauce, just literally melted cheese on overdone pasta. Side salad was not dressed but the waitress left a bottle of oil and a bottle of balsamic vinegar but then took it 2 minutes later for another table before anyone could actually add any to their salad. I wondered if I just ordered the wrong thing so I checked with the rest of my party of 6...one person ordered the falafel salad (which again was not dressed) and soup of the day (tomato and chilli soup with Italian herbs) - he commented that it tasted like canned soup; another person ordered a turkey burger with beetroot and gerkin pickles - found the patty seasoned well and bun tasty but the burger was extremely dry as there was no condiments or sauce. The beef dip was received well, so sounds like that would be a safer choice over the previously mentioned dishes. Someone else ordered a beef burger with cheese and bacon and he seemed to enjoy that burger so sounds like the trick to their burgers is to order it with cheese and/or sauce. Service unfortunately was pretty terrible as well, didn't see our server after the food was run out and had to wait another 20 minutes after asking for the bill. All-in-all, my experience was pretty miserable but to be fair sounds like it is hit and miss depending on what you order. read more

We walked in late night on a Monday and didn't know what we were gping to find. To our delight, it was magnificent. The serving staff was very friendly. The food was delicious. I had the venison burger with the beats and gherkins with a "Mista From Another Barista," to drink. My partner had the venison topped with haggis and a side of fries and the, "Smoked Pear & Whiskey Sour." About his Burger - he said it was like beimg in the butcher's shop. Everuthing was magificent. I was drawn to Scotch & Rye by their exterior design and logo and was not disappointed inside. Cool and funky interior. After giving me time to look over the menu a server came over to take my order and within minutes came back with a glass and bottle of water for me while I waited for my handcrafted cocktail. I had the Rosabella cocktail and it was fantastic. Being made with Hendricks gin I wanted it to be fresh and herbal. It went beyond that and added subtle notes of citrus and sweetness. I'm leaving the same review in the three places we attempted to eat dinner on July 21, 2019. I'd read about MacGregor's bar & was excited to try a Sunday night with the live music. But I never read YOU NEED A RESERVATION. So that's my first bit of advice. We walked in without a reservation at 6 pm and were laughed right out onto the street. 2nd try at Scotch and Rye. Few customers and no Scotch or Rye on the drink menu should have scared us off. But we stuck it out- ordered and an HOUR later we were told a technical "glitch"had caused our food order to not be placed with the kitchen.. but a good sever should have figured it out a bit sooner--to their credit they at least they comped us a few drinks. 3 time a charm- next door at George's. We finally got dinner! The food was good- didn't all come out at the same time and wasn't exactly what we ordered but we were starving and laughing about our adventures in Inverness we didn't much care. A cynic might think the restaurant industry in Inverness don't like Americans and or tourists in I which is to bad because this group of Americans eat/drink/tip and leave reviews. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, the manager going above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. We came in for breakfast, seeing a brunch menu outside. After learning that the menu had been left out from Sunday brunch by accident, they asked the kitchen which breakfast items they could scrape together for us. The food and coffee was delicious! We enjoyed the experience so much we came back for dinner, and oh my goodness we were not disappointed. The manager remembered us at treated us so well. The ambience is amazing as well: the vibe, the music, the people, the decor. Beyond five stars! If I could stay in Inverness I would do my best to get a job here or at least eat as often as my salary allowed! read more
