Scotch & Rye is a great bar and restaurant in the heart of Inverness City Centre. Their food was delicious and service was phenomenal. Would recommend getting the burger as it looked great.

This was the only place serving food post 8pm, the others had closed kitchens. Good spot for bar food- and they do it well. They have some exotic burgers on the menu, but what really stands out is the cocktail list and the menu- it was super cute to go through all the drink 'personalities' and pick the one that you identify with. G and I both got the award winning cocktails and man they were delicious. when we got there they apologized that the kitchen was flooded with orders but we didnt mind the wait since they would get us drinks first. We had a fun server who actually was an award winner for one of the cocktails we tried and he recommended the dirty mac and cheese (I stand by this, it was amazing) and they did sweet potato fries with it. The place is cool looking and upscale hipster. It's like a bar that cleaned up its act. Lots of young trendy looking kids come here and everyone was dressed for an evening out. I would definitely come back when in the area for a great drink and a relaxed evening

I came here for dinner on a Monday after a full day tour to Skye. It was busy on a Monday night at 730 and all the tables were full. I am glad I made a reservation because had I not, I wouldn't have been able to get a table. I highly recommend making a reservation. They have a nice cocktail menu with many different options to choose from. I had a gin based cocktail that was refreshing and light after a long day of touring. I tried the haggis bites which were delicious and paired with an aioli dipping sauce. If you are looking to try haggis while I'm Scotland, the haggis bites are a good way to try it. The Macaroni and cheese was a perfect portion and had a good blend of cheeses. You can add different proteins into the Mac and cheese if you choose to do so. It's a modern vibe here. They also have a large handicap accessible bathroom so this is a handicap friendly restaurant. I would highly recommend coming here for dinner. Friendly service and great food and drinks.

12oz chicken burger! I should have made more friends at the pub to share it with!

The atmosphere was perfect, exactly what I would expect from a Scottish pub. The onion and garlic fries were so tasty I ordered them twice...in an hour! No shame in my game. The bartenders were fantastic. The burgers were good, they come in 6, 12, 18 and 24oz. Unless you have a giant appetite stick with the 6! I got the 12.....

This was an unexpectedly hip find in dreary old Inverness. About 5 years behind the rest of the civilised world, but things happen slowly up in the Highlands! It's a nice hipster-by-numbers kind of atmosphere: bare wood and ironmongery - check. ephemera framed in wacky colours -check. inappropriate receptacles for drinks - check, check and CHECK. Thankfully, my Moscow Mule was served in a proper glass, they must have known I was coming. But my drinking companion's drink was served in a science flask, complete with smoke. Even as a bitter old cynic, I had to admit it was pretty cool. These drinks are not cheap, but they are hard to come by in Inverness, so I suppose you're paying for more than the alcohol. The cocktail menu is a quaint, humorous piece of work, but they could do with simplifying it somewhat. Also of note, as bourbon fans, they have a very good selection of bourbon for such an outpost - some unusual bottles (Woodford Rye), only sorry we didn't get to stay longer to try them out. We did try to return next morning for their "infamous brunch" but despite their Google listing advertising that they open at 11am on Sundays, upon arrival, it turned out they don't open til 12. Hopefully, they'll sort that out soon to avoid anyone else turning up hungry and disappointed, and having to eat at the absolute car crash of a restaurant, the Filling Station, round the corner.

What great service. Scotty *knows* his whiskey and was a tremendous resource on the history and process of whiskey. He didn't water down any information (or whiskey!) and gave us a lesson on the best of whiskey. Visit this place, son!

On a lightning trip to Inverness to see my friend, we decided (of course) to take in the local bars and beverage purveyors. The women in our party were of the cocktail mood, so Scotch & Rye was suggested as the best local cocktail place. I'm no cocktail connoisseur - lager and lime is usually my limit - but after listening to Stone Cold Steve Austin podcasts and hearing him get *messed* up on margaritas, I had to try one. Not sure what cocktails my friends had, but I know one was non alcoholic, one was gin based... and one was a draft pint of lager. Yes, one of my friends is even less adventurous than me, folks... In any case, my cocktail was pretty damned good. It inspired me to maybe branch out my taste choices in future, and that's no bad thing. Not that night, as I finished my drink and ordered another two pints for me and my philistine friend! Just a word too about the staff. The gent that took care of us was simply amazing. The right mix of helpfulness and sarcasm towards me and Doug's ignorance of cocktails, and did everything he could to make our visit as good as it possibly could have been. Next time I'm in Inverness, I'll definitely be back in here and trying something more adventurous than a margarita and a pint! Promise!

Nice atmosphere. Great drinks but the food was disappointing. Service was very slow. I'd really only recommend coming here for a drink.

It's not often that my husband and I will exclaim "I LOVE this spot!", but that's exactly what we…read moredid after dining here on our first night in Inverness. Everyone we encountered was friendly and welcoming. We were shown right to a table near the windows, offered drink menus, given the daily specials (for food and cocktails). We both ordered a pint (I was stoked to find they had Belhaven on tap!), and the Haggis & Steak Meatballs to start. After a bit of deliberation, I ordered the Pan-Fried Sea Bass for my main, and my husband went with the Slow Roasted Venison Haunch. The meatballs came out first and looked different than I expected. There were three meatballs served in a bowl of a cream sauce, accompanied by two bread slices and a small side salad. I was able to taste the haggis, which was a nice surprise. The haggis flavor didn't overpower the meatball, which in turn was given a nice creamy-herby flavor from the sauce. The salad that came with it was nice and light, and served with kale chips, giving it an extra bit of crunch and flavor. My entree was phenomenal. The Asian-inspired sauce that was drizzled over the fish and noodles added a nice flair to the flavor, without taking away from the flavor of the fish (sea bass is my favorite fish, after all). I was worried that the noodles wouldn't work with the dish overall, but it did turn out very well. The noodles were perfectly cooked and paired with al dente vegetable straws. Everything had a splash of the sauce, which tied it all together. My husband also immensely enjoyed his meal. He said that the venison was perfectly cooked and that the different sauces were all delicious. To be fair, he did say that he originally thought there were too many sauces on the plate, but once it was in front of him, and he was shoveling it into his face, he understood that they all worked together. An appetizer, an entree each, and two pints of beer per person later, we decided that we had to try their sticky toffee pudding. I'm not sure why we thought it was a good idea (other than the vague recollection of a vow I made before we even left the States, saying that I would eat sticky toffee pudding at every establishment that offered it), but we were glad we ordered it. I mean, we were full up and ready to 'splode, but we were glad we ordered it. Their pudding is served in a square, with a scoop of ice cream and warm caramel. It was the perfect ending to the most fantastic meal we had on this trip. We came very close to going back on our last night in town, as well, but wanted to try something different (in reality, we would've been much better off had we come back to The Ivy, but you live and learn.) I hope others stop in to try their wonderful entrees and fun cocktails. I want this restaurant to succeed so that when we return to Inverness, we have a place to go for a great meal!

Wife was very hangry and needed food. The Ivy Bar & Kitchen was one of the first eateries we came…read moreacross. To be honest they have "Bar" first in their name so I should have lowered my expectations but wife on the verge of snapping at me, decided to go with it. Ordered and the food took a long time to arrive. I am all for slow food but any longer and the wife would have been storming out of there. Wife ordered the Scottish Salmon Special for £17. It was well cooked but not an especially creative dish. Actually, most of the menu looked uninspired. The salmon came with mashed potatoes and a creamy sauce that had no ambition. I was a bit bored with the menu so just went with the Ivy Burger. I asked for onion rings instead of chips (fries). Unfortunately the waitress didn't quite comprehend and I got chips and onion rings. The onion rings looked outstanding but sadly the rings were cold and oily. As soon as I touched the burger I knew it was going to be mediocre. The bun, though grilled was dense and close to crumbly. The burger was room temperature and bland. Even the haggis topping didn't distinguish it. Had to ask for some ketchup for my chips, wish they had some curry sauce. There was a tiny cup of slaw which was possibly the best part of the meal, a larger portion would have helped tremendously. Overall, get drinks here but pass on the food.o
