I really wanted to love this place, but... it just wasn't great. The good: It's nice and clean, and the service was good. The not so good: They say they have local beef, so we ordered the burger, which was cooked to death, and I was excited to have sweet potato fries on the menu, but they were soggy and wreaked of old oil, the kind that gives you a stomach ache all the way home. A Hells Canyon four day tour on our motorcycles brought my wife and I to Halfway. This restaurant will bring us back to town! An unexpected dining Oasis in Halfway - this spot greatly exceeded our expectations in every way. Service was pleasant, polite and timely. Atmosphere was fresh, spotlessly clean, organized, bright & cheerful. Location on Main Street was convenient Seating options are great, inside or outside Food was terrific, especially the superb lemon blueberry cake! An unexpected surprise. In fact, it's almost as if all roads lead to this Halfway restaurant...we passed several people on the road in Idaho headed West on 71. Eventually most of those people we passed ended up here for lunch :) An unexpected and worthwhile stop, and a delightful alternative to all those crummy meals we endured in Idaho on our motorcycle tour of Hells Canyon. read more

So far have waited 35 minutes to come take our order, and another 20 minutes to get our drink currently waiting well over an hour still no food. Other customers came after usand have gotten their food while while still nothing and all we ordered were burgers. Terrible service read more

I really cannot give any stars, so will give the one star as it is the lowest you can give. We made reservations earlier this week to have a celebration of life for my Mother. The person taking our information for our luncheon said it was "prime rib" day and to let them know the total count for anyone wanting prime rib. When we called back to give the count, the person said prime rib wasn't served at lunch time. We said ok no worries we can order off the lunch menu for our party of 22. The phone rang 5 minutes later and the owner told us they couldn't honor our reservation because it was "Fair weekend". We tried to explain it was a celebration of life for my Mother and we would be left in the lurch. The owner than said, it is first come first serve and hung up on us. I have never left a review on Yelp in my life. But this needed to be shared. read more

Don't miss the opportunity to dine at The Main Place!!! If you are ever east of Baker (City), OR make sure you stop by. One of the best hamburgers I've had in a long time (I use 5-Guys as my benchmark). Here is a piece of real meat with a substantial bun. The wife had an Oriental Chicken salad which looked real good (I would have had food envy except my burger was so good). Don't forget to finish off your meal with either some good looking baked items or a scoop of Cascade Glacier ice cream. Seriously, my burger could have come from the best restaurant in Portland. Evening here was one of the highlights of our OR tour. They have a safe waiting area and well spaced seating. We had beers, burger, veggie wrap, cheesecake, and ice cream. All delicious and service prompt. Highlight was watching locals come in and be personally welcomed. Halfway is a small, tight town and it was wonderful to be part of it. read more

Ate here with a party of 12. They were great about accommodating all of us and did awesome with drinks etc.. We all were hungry and ready for dinner. I had the salmon fillet, sweet potato and corn. Couple glasses of wine. We all were stuffed in the end. Usually I would have sat outside but they had told us that there were some hostile bees, so we sat in the back room, which I hadn't even known about! I am very saddened and disappointed in your (the Main Place, same owners as the Pine Valley Lodge) decision to cancel our reservation at this very late notice so that the owner's nephew can have the suite we booked a year in advance and paid for. I am just one of the large incoming group that is affected by this unprofessional decision. This whole scenario is so disheartening, and we are really hurt by this experience. We have encouraged many people to come and stay the Pine Valley Lodge and the Main Place. My husband and his friends come their multiple times each winter season. The fact that we were still bringing our whole group there this winter to support your small community despite having very limited amenities speak volumes for how much we have, until now, enjoyed coming to Halfway. The cancellation of this suite limits the entire group. This was our only option to cook breakfasts for the group since the lodge is not serving them. This was our only place to eat dinner, since the restaurant is take out only. Where will these 20 people eat now? Individually in their vehicles or their rooms? This is the only group trip on the schedule for the Trac Riders this winter. I will let the group know at the meeting tonight what has transpired and let each of the members make their own decision regarding their reservations for the upcoming weekend with the now even more limited amenities. We have 20 people coming this year. Again, I am very saddened and disappointed in your decision to cancel our reservation so that the owner's nephew can have the suite we booked a year in advance and paid for. 5 Stars - Because it's the only place in town with good food. Ok so maybe that's not entirely true but during my brief stint in Halfway we only found 2 restaurants. The other place was a dive with okay pie. The Main Place had great service and great food; the place is brand new. My wife had the club sandwich which was humongous and I had the Buffalo bacon burger and onion rings. Both were excellent. Worth a stop if for some reason you find yourself in Halfway. read more

I ate here Sept. 4 and was pleasantly surprised. It got busy the longer I was there as it was Rodeo weekend but the two servers were hustling! I had a delicious steak salad and would definitely go back when in the area. I think it might have been the ONLY restaurant open, or that I saw. read more

We were in Halfway for business and had pretty modest expectations for restaurants. The Main Place greatly exceeded our hopes. We had a great lunch for five and everyone found a decent choice. My BLT was great. The vegetarian had a wrap that satisfied. Salads were good and the burger eaters loved them Two of us had dinner. Very good salad My flat iron steak with baked sweet potato was great. And the teriyaki chicken was too but came with a mountain of sweet potato fries. We were not supposed to be in Halfway today, but I am sure glad it ended up happening that way. The food was great, the service plesant, and the total atmosphere typical of eastern Oregon. I go to Halfway at least once a year and love the area. It's so nice to have a new restaurant in town and this is a good one. So why 4 stars? I went there with a group one night and 2 people ordered steaks. Both were over cooked and certainly not "thick cut" as described in the menu. I ordered the meatloaf and it was very good as was the salad. The folks that had the streak informed the staff about the over cooked meat and they did not have to pay. The manager expressed his apologies. We went back the next night and everything was great. The cook even came out and apologized for the previous nights mistakes. They did the right thing and I was impressed. Other than this, the atmosphere was very good and the staff was excellent. I will be going back my next visit. read more
